so basicly all those classic games that are priced well above Ebay prices that people will never buy are the ones that they got from people for $0.25 apiece. It just ticks me off. There is another guy that lives down here by me that cleans about all sales, i see him once in a while, teh worst was seeing him with a stack of complete SNES titles including some rares. but I have seen him drive up to sales when i am loading my car with goodies, He loves to glare at me.

that's one nice thing where i live. while the selection isn't the greatest, i have never seen ANY competition

I really don't like it when I see those guys, though it happens rarely. I don't like seeing people buy up that stuff just make some money. These guys are making it harder for me to get some of the better classic games out there. There are some major holes in my PS1, SNES, and Saturn collections.

I do some ebaying, but not everything I find goes on ebay. I'm using the profits from selling my extra stuff to fund my gaming purchases. I paid for half of my ps3 through ebaying.

I was wondering what types of neighborhoods do you get better finds in?

I couldn't have said it better here. I do the exact same thing. I have bought some pretty pricy items thanks to paypal and reselling items I don't have.

In the way of competition, I have to say that it is nice not to have any. In a town of about 3000 and a neighboring town of aroun 16000, I have come back with some pretty amazing finds for being in rural Mid-Missouri. The only people I have to worry about are soccer moms and kids that want games but ironically they usually want sports titles and other less than stellar titles.

Where I live, there is very little competition, because I usually yard sale in the neighboring towns that have a max population of 15,000. All the competition goes to nearby Springfield which is much larger, and even then I could go there and find some excellent stuff.

Anyways, I forgot to post this weekend on my finds. I went to a neighboring city with my grandpa, and on our way we stopped at a sale, and the lady told us that the city was having a city wide sale. Immediately, I was excited, but when we arrived, I was dissapointed because there were a ton of cars and nowere to park. Me and my grandpa had to walk all the way down the street, but the only things I found (and didn't buy) were some overpriced guides, games and N64. My grandpa found some santa stuff (hes a collector) on the way, but once we drove around, I started to find some stuff. Here are my finds:

Mr. Roboto Vinyl 45- .25
Beach Boys Record- 1.00
Mario Kart toy- .20
Far Cry PC Complete- .25
Game Gear w/ Complete Game Genie and 6 games (Batman Returns, Sonic Chaos, Sonic 2, Mortal Kombat 2, Surfing Ninja's and NHL)- 17 dollars. Talked the lady down from 25.
Top Gear SNES Cart only- .25
Romeo+Juliet VHS- .50 (Just read the play in school, so I decided to buy the movie)

It was an OK weekend, but I am going to a less crowded Citywide sale this weekend, so hopefully I will have better luck then.

Can anyone recommend some valuable vinyl records, CDs, and VHS'? I see these all the time but have no clue which ones are worth anything.

Also wondering about what samus just asked.

I saw a sale today as i pulled up I saw all kinds of nerdy stuff and kids toys so i thought I woudl find some stuff, but the lady acted like videogames were satan's spawn or something.

Same here, I always check the trailer park. But IMO some of the bigger hauls come from the neighboorhoods that were populated by families 10-20 years ago and are now populated by couples who's kids are in college or out of the house.

My understanding (someone correct me if I'm wrong), but with vinyl it would be way more hit or miss than video games. Think about different records vs video games. It's easy to get together a list of 20 snes games that are common enough to find, but can still be worth a bit, but with music there is so much stuff out there that a ton of it isn't worth much at all.
I've heard that some records given to radio stations as promotion can fetch a fair bit, but I'm sure there's another CAG who knows about this better than I do.

I see alot more records, CDs and VHS at sales than I do video games.

Husband called on his way to work to give me a heads-up about a sale in the next neighborhood over. I asked for video games, but apparently "with three girls growing up that's not something we thought about much." Which was sad. But I got two yards of super pretty fabric for $1.50. I have no idea what I'll do with it, but it is awesome.

It's funny, we get responses like that sometimes, too. "No, we had girls." Like that explains why they didn't have videogames. Back in the day, everyone had videogames. Somewhere along the line it became a gender thing.

There's also the occasional "No, we never allowed videogames in the house". I really feel for those kids...

They're all home schooled and can't have any fun because they have to study the bible so much.
They can't wait to come to my house. lol

Back on topic, no sales for me this week.
I'm going to a concert with Metallica, chiodos, SOAD without the singer and some other bands for a radio station. ^_^

I'm lucky my parents are realy conservative christians(I don't have anything wrong with that) and now they are realy tight on my brother about games, but whne i was younger(and they were more conservative) I could pretty much play what ever and they would play too, but now 3D games "make it to realistic." but they still let my brother play lots of cool stuff like zelda and Mario and stuff like that. He is always waiting at the door when I get home from sales on saturdays.

Just got back from a few garage sales. All but one so far have been the little old ladies that collect knick nacks sales. One had two copies of microsoft office 2003 for $5! I went to get them but the cd's were all scratched up. One had a crack in it and the other was covered in goop. I'm going back out in a bit.

Went to garage sales and had an excellent day! Here is what I got:

Green Gameboy- 2.00
Pokemon tape- 1.00
Baha Men CD- .50
PlayStation memory card- .50

I then went back to my town, and found 18 PS1 games for a dollar each and guess what I found? Castlevania: SoTN black label! I was excited as hell when I found it, and bought all 18 of the PS games. I also got Boshido Blade 2, Area 51, Ace Combat 2, Sim City 2000, Civilization 2, Crash Bandicoot 2, and some other random worthless games. All except for 1 were black label, and most were in good condition, with the exception of a couple broken cases which is easily fixed.

We may head out tomorrow morning to scope out our new neighborhood. Looks like some kind of town-wide or elsewise organized yardsale (lots of houses with the exact same signs on their lawns), so we might check that out. Probably going to be a few weeks until we get back fully into the swing of things.

Picked up a complete NES in box plus 5 games for $10. Guy had two complete Sega Genesis systems and a Colecovision. He said he had 100 games for the Colecovision, but could not find them. I CIF 10 for everything and he said someone offered him $100 for just the Colecovision about 10 years ago and it was going to be worth more than that. I then said $10 for the Nintendo and Sega stuff, again rebuffed. Finally offered $10 for the NES stuff and he accepted.

Games were:
Mega Man 1
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers
G.I. Joe A Real American Hero

Figured that I can at a minimum trade in the NES at my local game store and break even. See that Mega Man 1 and G.I. Joe are fetching a decent price for NES games. Have some solid leads for tomorrow and my phone number out there for later today.

Good luck tomorrow everybody.

Weekend research done.

Found two about a mile south of us. One says "lots of baby stuff", so I'm not sure it's even worth bothering - but the other is a six-family sale near the Blockbuster we most often go to.

Found two up near our secondary Target, conveniently near a Gamestop I need to hit up soon.

And found a bunch in a little chunk a few miles to the northeast of that area: two individual sales (one which specifically mentions video games), and two entire subdivisions having community sales.

:D

And if you really need an older copy of Office, I have Office 2000, Office XP, and I think Office 2003. One copy of each, all legit, all unused.

You have to be patient, you may have one bad week, but It all depends on what tactics you use.

The final one at 5:00PM was good, but I missed a lot. Someone needed a ride home from work suddenly at 4:40 and we showed up to the garage sale ten minutes late. It was packed with people but I managed to grab a CH gamestick for two dollars (It's looks like it's for racing games/flight simulators) and an almost perfect never before used Call of Duty Limited Edition Box Set for three dollars.

Went to a few sales (including one that said they would have video games, but then I arrive and I am told that 'the son decided to keep the video games') and found nothing.

I notice that there are fewer sales now than there were this time last year. I guess with gas prices the way they are, no one wants to drive around.

2nd week in a row that was a bust for me. Hit about 20 sales, and found an overpriced PS1 (seems like these are common nowadays) and a few PS2 sports titles.

Oh well, will try again next weekend. I refuse to give up!

For the first time out this year I did ok. Hit about 25 sales.

I got a new Guitar Hero II guitar for 360 for $10

and Sonic Mega Collection for the GCN for $0.50

Hopefully an 6am trip to the flea market will be more productive.

I saw the flea market competition again, I was hopping he wouldn't be back for another summer. Luckily I will beat him to the flea market in the morning to find any good deals.

The First town was a city wide sale.
SNES with 2 controls
Super Mario world(X2)
Super Gameboy
SNES Game Genie
Pro Srots Hockey
Megaman X
Super Star Wars
Metal combat
Donkey Kong Country
Super Battletank 2
F-1 Pole Position
Batman Returns
Total Carnage
FF Mystic Quest
Stunt Race FX
DOOM
Pilot Wings
Flashback
Lemmings
Rabbit Rampage
Dirt Track FX
F-Zero
Pitfall
The Lawnmower Man
Plus some random PS2 accy's
a box for Mario Land 2
Random GBC and SNES Manuals
She was asking $30 I CIF'd $15 and she said it wasnt hers so she could only go to $20. I got it because there were several games that i didnt have yet. I was realy excited when i saw a box with Mega Man X and FF: Mystic Quest on top, I thought it woudl be full of goodies, but most were lame games.

The Next 20-30 sales all told me that they had had games(Everyone in my area plays games) but that the school kids had bought them all after school on friday. I then found a LCD Moitor for free and a copy of Starfox assault(GC) for $5, then a copy of Def Jam Fight For NY(GC) for $1.

I then went to the next town over(my regular GS Town.)
There were only a few sales here, The first few had no games then I found one that said someone had bought a "big box full of old nintendo stuff 5 minutes ago" That was a dissapointment!! The next and final sale I found a brand new Linksys Wireless N routher for $3 still in box and plastic!!

I think they were $5 each, but a kid was buying them literally as we were walking up to the sale. They were the cherry red Gibsons that came out with GH2.

We wouldn't have gotten them anyway, since just this week I put our GH1 guitars back in their boxes for storage, but spotting them was neat.

After striking out on a bunch of yard sales last Saturday and getting discouraged, I found an snes lot for $14 with 3 controllers and 6 games all in box with manual today. The games weren't spectacular except for a super mario kart. It also had a copy of NBA Live 95 which holds sentimental value even if its a cheap ass game.

My search continues to stumble upon chrono trigger....

This is my find-of-the-year. Only problem was no controller/cables for the 3DO, but it uses regular a/v cables. Also, everything is really dusty and needs a lot of cleaning. Like, really, really dusty.

Also, this is further proof that you should ASK AT EVERY SALE: $12, some kind went into the house and came out with it, and I got a "make an offer" from the parents.

I keep finding beat to crap PS1 games (also, no good titles), I found a copy of Tombal however it was disc only and was REALLY beat, plus they wanted 4$ for it, the lady was being flexible with prices however I really don't think it was worth getting given the condition. I got 3 3-packs of Video Now discs at this sale for 1$ each so I was happy about that, yeah I collect weird stuff. They will go nicely with my 3$ Video Now player that I picked up at walmart on the after holiday clearance. Other than that just overpriced crap at the rest of the sales. A couple weeks ago I found a loose genesis for 20$, yeah right.

Tomba! for PS1 is always worth $4 I got my copy that was scratched to heck for $4 out of a bargain bin, and some guy saw that I had it and offered me $40 for it even though it was scratched. It is super hard to find.

it was very hot out today. we didn't go to many sales because of this, but i'm happy with what i got. the DS lite was missing the stylus and GBA cover cart, but i think it was still worth it -- it also had no games, but i stuck one in for the pic to show it working and lookin' purty. the guy wanted 30 bucks, but i got him down to 25. other than this stuff, i picked up some DVDs and a Kawai K1 II.

congrats to everyone that found some cool stuff today!

I've two weeks to post, though I didn't much either week.

I got these in two connected neighborhoods.

Magic Pengel $3
Castlevania: DOS $4

Both games are complete. These were my only finds in these neighborhoods. It was some nicer and newer neighborhood. That's the second DS game I've found recently. I just wish I could find a good deal on the older model DS. I don't feel like paying $130 for a new DS. At least I've manged to add a few good games to
my backlog.

$2 for a bunch of Genesis games
$1 Pokemon Gold version

I also went to this other large neighborhood, but it had been picked over pretty good by the time I got there. I got this bunch Genesis games for $2. Most of it is okay. There's a few good games like Phantasy Star III, Shinobi, and streets of rage. A lot of them are rentals though and are covered in labels. I got the pokemon game since I figured I could sell it on ebay for $10 or so, but unfortunately it has a dead battery and can't save games. I also got a free computer running windows ME :puke:.

$1 two star wars hardbacks
$1 component system selector
$1 external hard drive enclosure
$5 digital signal boxes
$5 IDE to SATA adapter
$0 very long component cable
$3 ICO

It was cold with a forecast of rain Friday morning, so I don't think as many people had sales as usual. I went to a nicer neighborhood this week as well. This isn't far from last week's neighborhoods and I had some good luck last time I was in that neighborhood. I got two star wars books for $1. That was my only find for a while till I neared the end of the neighborhood. I found a sale where a lady who sells stuff on ebay. She had a bunch of returned stuff from best buy that she got from an auction house in Indy. That component selector was a dollar since it is missing the ac adapter. The hard drive enclosure was basically still sealed. The IDE to SATA adapter will be usefull. The digital signal box I got for dad since it was a good deal and it is good to have an extra. The component cable was free at another house.

I went to another neighborhood that afternoon and got my only game find of the day: ICO. It's complete and in great condition. I got a copy already, so I'll put it on ebay to help pay for my MGS4 LE pre-order.

I didn't get much these last two weeks, but I still managed to get a few useful items . I should try some different places.

Thanks! Its actually a funny story with that massive lot. I had some trouble finding the place, and was considering just going home, but re-mapped it on my phone and it was on the way home anyway (I'd just be coming in from the north rather than the south). It was a steep driveway with an old couple and just a few tables and boxes on top, so I walked up not expecting to see anything, and was surprised to peek in one box and see a boxed SMB3 staring back at me...then the complete Shenmue in the box next to it, and a 3DO in yet another box.

I asked how much they had wanted, and they replied $2 each...then I clarified, "No, for everything..." The woman offered $10 per box sight unseen if as they "just wanted to get rid of them;" so I countered with $20 for the boxes and the stack of guides/magazines that they had on the table, which they gladly accepted, the gentleman there telling me how that 3DO had cost him over $600 back in the day.

Honestly, I just got really, really lucky.

The guy had a box of games with a sign "$3 each", so the four items came up to $12, I said "all I have is $7 (truth) will you take that" and he said yes.

My weekend was decent but I couldn't stay out for too terribly long. We were having a graduation party at my house for myself (I just finished my M.S.).

But here are the stories and photos of my finds for saturday morning.

I pull up to this sale and start looking around. I find thatthis guy is REALLY into Bon Jovi which is not a bad thing. after looking around I found the following:

Bon Jovi: Slippery When Wet LP (Limited Edition Picture Disc)
CounterStrike Anthology including Condition Zero (PC)
Wireless Black Xbox 360 Controller

I was amazed when I saw the price tags on the item that I had picked up. $2 for the record, $2 for the CS Game, and $0.50 for the controller. I CIF'ed $3 for the whole lot and he took it.

On a side note, I got home and the controller just needed new batteries and works great!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2502003040/

I was out sailing and found this sale. I saw some PS2 games on a table but just as I walked towards then, someone picked them up. I waited patiently beside him like a vulture and he then put them down down. I then quickly snatched them up, and with good reason. The titles were:

Clock Tower 3
Fatal Frame 3

They were asking $5 each do I CIF'd $5 for both. They wouldn't bite since these 'weren't our games' I offered $7 and they apparently didn't care any longer.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2502002922/

I pulled up to this being the last sale of the day and I noticed some PC games so I though I would investigate. I found some disks of games from the past and picked them up. I found:

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: The Dark Queen of Krynn
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Dragonstrike
Rise of the Dragon

I gave a $1 and thought that the price was well worth that.

good sailing it seems for everyone this weekend!

And that counter strike is probably useless because someone used the CD key already.

My dad was in the hospital, so I didn't go to the swap meet.

Had a pretty good outing yesterday

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/4651/1001525mp6.jpg

12 SNES games a few discolored
TOTAL: $2
Asked how much on the games and the guy came back with "take em all for $2" my cheapass wanted to counter with $1. How sad is that?

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/1246/1001527ve2.jpg

Purple GBC in box excellent condition
24 GB/GBC/GBA
8 GC games complete (MP4) cool!
GB carrying case - not shown
TOTAL: $15
Found this stuff around 11AM laying out in plain sight. When I asked how much on the GB games the lady came back with .50 each . I CIF'd $10 for everything and she said that does not seem like enough for all that and countered with "how bout $25" I shot her the look and countered her with "I'll give you $15" which she reluctantly took after looking at the cash for about 30 seconds

http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/9249/1001528lr3.jpg

Marvel vs Capcom
Rampage 2
HOD 2
TOTAL: $1.50
Found at 2 different sales. HOD 2 was marked a dollar with some other sports games and system marked $15. I just payed the buck on HOD2 because I eyed a N64 w/games at another sale across the street where I picked up the PS1 games. The lady wanted $30 on the N64, $10 on mario games and $5 on the other games there was a total of about 15 games. I CIF'd $10 telling her that "Beleive me lady this stuff is'nt even worth close to that money, I'll give you $10 for everything, she shot it down and said it was her sons and that's what he wants on it . So I quickly looked through a stack of music CD's and in the mix was the MvsC as well as pc games. I held it up without inspection and asked how much for the games which she replied .50 each. I looked inside and there was the rampage as well as the MvsC. I went to pay and contrary to the beliefs of some I do have a conscience and told the lady that there was 2 games in the case. She said "yeah .50 each, oh that one does'nt have a case? just take it"

http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/5134/1001529nj5.jpg

NES w hookups not shown
14 games - marios, contra, tyson
TOTAL: $5
I tried to CIF $3 but this lady would not budge from her $5 asking price.

http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/9172/1001530eu2.jpg

Box of 20 assorted games
TOTAL: $3
The lady wanted a $1 each on these. I CIF'd her $3 telling her that I constantly find/buy these type of games for .25 or .50 a piece. She looked a little surprised but took the $3

http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/4854/1001531fj7.jpg

Fatal Frame - mint
maximo
CTR
spongebob
TOTAL: $3
These also came from 2 different sales. The FF I got at a sale where I asked for games and the guy said he had some PS2 games but he would have to find them, so I gave him my number and then his little kid said " Daddy I know where the scary game is" and proceeded to run in the house to get it . Well I was awful glad JR knew where the scary game was. I CIF'd $2 after looking at it with very little interest and the Dad telling me that it was never even played. Kinda weird that I just recently acquired an interest in the FF series and I find FF1 & FF2 in as many weeks. Maybe I'll score FF3 next week. The other games I CIF'd $1 on IAP of $2, The lady told me she had sold a large bunch of games earlier and that this was all that was left. I hate when that happens

Finding N64 controllers without controller sticks that are loose is so difficult. I haven't found any controllers where the stick isn't shot. And I need one too, so I can play Banjo Kazooie better.

I'm hoping to find one next week. I don't want to drop $10 on eBay. :/

Snotknocker, do people ever get offended when you tell them that it's not worth that much (which is a lie)? Have you ever come across someone who knew how much the stuff was worth and got mad when he/she knew it was a lie? I'm also worried I'll make myself look like a scammer.

Snotknocker, do people ever get offended when you tell them that it's not worth that much (which is a lie)? Have you ever come across someone who knew how much the stuff was worth and got mad when he/she knew it was a lie? That'd be an interesting story.

If your referring to the that N64 , well it really was'nt worth that much IMO, she wanted $30 for the system, $10 ea. on 4 mario games and $5 ea. on 11 other crap games. $125 for that stuff was'nt worth it and the games and system were a little rough. Was it worth close to that much? In some peoples opinion maybe, if she put it on ebay or amazon or even craigslist it could be worth that but come on it's a yardsale, and for yardsale value it's not worth close to that much IMO. I tried to low ball which is my nature. You should really think things out before you start hitting me with the liar tag

I never set out to be deceiptful, how ever sometimes that does'nt always happen. I know I'm flawed but I'm working on it. I'll deal with my demons thank you. For the most part I try not to lie to anyone, a lot of the time I'll say I pick up stuff like this all the time for .25 or .50 or what ever the case might be, which is true. Then let them make the decision. When it comes right down to it I'm not forcing anybody to take my money

I constantly come across people that know how much there stuff is worth and rarely ever buy from them. I've offended many people with low ball offers, but don't give it much after thought because I'll probably never buy or even see these people again. I've had people call me insane, fucking nuts. or you gotta be kidding. I take it all with a grain of salt and move on. While I do'nt like the term scammer because it has a broad definition, I guess that's technically what I'm doing week in and week out. I like to consider myself more of a YDT (yardsale deal tactician)

No, no, I didn't mean to offend you. I worded it wrong. I do the exact same thing as you (just not as well), so why would I offend myself?

I pretty much wanted to know how you dealt with people who realized what a lowball offer it was. I feel really jerky when people realize I'm essentially trying to rip them off. Like the other day on Craigslist, someone told me to make an offer on his Conker, Mario Kart 64, Perfect Dark, and Zelda Majora's Mask. I wanted to offer $10 but I wasn't sure whether or not he knew the value so I offered $30 and he hastily accepted. Which wasn't a bad deal for me really, because Conker alone is worth about $25. But still, I feel like I could have done better and I guess I need to take more risks.

And for the 64, I was talking about more in general than in that specific situation, really.

And for the 64, I was talking about more in general than in that specific situation, really.

you should always low ball with what you would consider a great deal, if the person gets offended then you simply could say "well around how much did you have in mind?"

I always lowball $5-$10 under what i am willing to pay and usualy end at what i want. sometimes i get suprised and get a SOLD! on my first offer, but aroud here people dont sell system+games lots for under $10 so that is usuay what i start at.

This week was a good week for me. I hit approx 45 sales Thursday, 25 Friday, and 9 Saturday. There actually weren't any today. At every sale I asked for video games and named off specific systems like Nintendo, sega, playstation.

My weekend started in tragedy when I arrived at a sale (with a PS2 advertised) 30 minutes early and found out it had already been sold. The bad: I was best friends with this guy's younger brother in grade school and he told me he would have given me the PS2 for free. Worse: His wife used to work for Midway and would always get free games. The worst: He told me he had between 80-90 PS1 games that he sold to the guy literally 3 minutes before I got there.

My luck did turn around when I found this Genesis complete and extra controller for $5, offered $3 and she took it.

http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/1246/sega1bn9.th.jpg (http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sega1bn9.jpg)

I also found T2 on game gear with the case. Wanted $1, countered with .25 SOLD

This was in a free box! Yay bonus!

http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/2386/pacsp0.th.jpg (http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pacsp0.jpg)

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/4859/pac1za9.th.jpg (http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pac1za9.jpg)

I also picked up some CED disks for .50 each. Making of thriller, Clash of the titans, First Blood, Star wars, Empire Strikes Back, Warriors, Alien, and a couple of others. See wiki for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitance_Electronic_Disc

Went to a sale with a lot of high priced games. Guy wanted $10, offered $7. It was worth it for the guide alone, but a black label complete game with registration card is nice too.

http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/3076/ffzi5.th.jpg (http://img262.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ffzi5.jpg)

I got lucky at this sale when I asked about games and the guy's wife said "We have a sega with the CD cases." He said "oh yeah, I forgot we bought that for the grandkids, let me go get it." He came back with the dreamcast and 2 controllers, and the games. I noticed the component cord was missing and I asked if he had it. He came back out with the cord and the boxes for the system. He said make an offer and I said "How does $10 sound?" He said I was thinking more like $25. I then offered $12 and he said "Well I think we paid over $200 for this stuff when it came out, plus we haven't put it out yet...I think for $12 we would keep it and put $50 on it and see if someone wants it". After he said that I knew he was in control of the negotiation. I asked if he had anything else that went with the system and his wife came out with the manual and the registration cards. He said "this is practically brand new, I think they only played with it a few times" (which must have been true because there was no hand gunk on the controllers/system) I then offered $15 and the wife chimed in with "I won't let you sell it for less than $20!" That is when I regained control. I got a lower price offer than he gave me and the husband was now upset with his wife telling him what to do.

Now here is when noticing your surroundings comes in handy. I have a guy who is being forced to sell his Harley (I asked him about it when I got to the sale), who is now upset with his wife. I came in with my final offer..."$17 is the highest I can go. He looked at his wife and said "OK". She then looked at me and said "$17 is what we settled on?" I said yes and handed her a $20 :-\"

http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/3602/dreamcast1hu2.th.jpg (http://img294.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dreamcast1hu2.jpg)

And now my best find in a long time...

I asked this MILF at a sale if she had any old video games and at first she said "No". I said "Ok thank you" and started to leave and she said "Wait! I have a Turbo Grafix!" I stopped and said "I might be interested in it" and asked if I could take a look at it, she said "let me go inside and I'll be right back." She came out with everything and I said "what would you like for it?" She said "I think you have to start bartering with me" and smiled at me. I said "I don't know...$5?", she said "how about $10?", countered "How about $7?", she said "Sounds good!" I realized today that the rf adapter is missing, but I might swing by tomorrow and see if she has it or anything else for me ;) haha.

http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/8537/turbo16agy4.th.jpg (http://img120.imageshack.us/my.php?image=turbo16agy4.jpg)

List of games: Splatterhouse, Raiden, Klax, Final lap twin, cadash, night creatures, jj and jeff, moto roader, dungeon explorer, bloody wolf, king of casino, tv sports football, hockey, keith courage in alpha zones, and the official Turbo Grafx 16 game holder. Oh, the hotspot in the pic is "alone in the dark" (1992 PC version from INFOGRAMES) that I paid .10 for at another sale.

I left my number with 3 others, but I haven't heard anything yet.

http://abharrie.misterdotnet.com/images/ys1.jpg
Flashback - No Instructions
Eternal Champions - Complete
Mario 2 - Cart Only
1943 - Cart Only
Castle of Dragon - Cart Only
Asked $5, offered $3, accepted $4.

And my only find this week:
http://abharrie.misterdotnet.com/images/ys2.jpg
Mickey Mousecapade - Complete
Wally Bear and the NO! Gang - No Instructions
Ducktales - Complete
Tarzan - Complete
Asked $1 each, I took it since they were almost all complete and in good condition

My NES library is growing nicely...but still no NES, I'm finding lots of Gennys and PS1s, but no NESes.

I also have a question for the more experienced.
How do you deal with really busy sales where either you can't even figure out who's running it or the seller has a line of people waiting to check out?

Do you have a Player for the CED's?"

I do not have a player, but you can order parts from a guy in Portland. Check out this site for everything CED: http://www.cedmagic.com/selectavision.html Usually they go for $60 shipped on ebay at the lowest (for a working one), but they occasionally pop up at a lower price. I would set up a favorite search and have it emailed daily.

Thanks! That is true, but I would like to have a 'turbotuner', because I am a completest. I know, I am a loser.

I also have a question for the more experienced.

Busy sales are the best for CIF. Take out what you would like to offer and say something to the effect of "Hey! Who wants my money?" "Or who is in charge here?" (Make sure you are smiling) Most likely the person running the sale will identify themselves. You then make your offer with the cash in hand. If they are busy they will spend less time thinking about it and usually will take an offer.

Here is what I usually offer based on price.
Price:Offer

$1 Item: .50
$2: $1
$5: $3
$10: $7

**These are for items I really want, if it is something I do not care about, then I offer less. Also buying in bulk is always the best bet. You have plenty of time to count the items and to figure out an offer. When the person running the sale has to do the math they usually give up or agree to an offer.

EXAMPLE: I saw 9 old pennants (from late 60s early 70s). The lady wanted $2 each -Except for the LA Rams and another older one "That would cost more"- I said "how much for all of them?" She said $10, I said "How about $5? and she took it.

Not the cheapest deals on earth....but a guy had a 60 GB PS3 for 400 dollars. So i went home that night and sold my 80 GB ps3 for 400 dollars and went over to his place and grabbed the system. I didnt know it included 3 six axis controllers and motorstorm and call of duty 4, so he gave them to me. I went to GC and traded in the controllers for 17 each and got a dual shock 3. Works fo me...

KROQ Weenie Roast? That's a long drive for you if that's the case...

BTW some guy is trying to sell a cart only cop of Earthbound for $60, but "will take $45". Should I say forget it, or try to get it for (hopefully a lot) less? I'm just wondering whether to respond with "OMG $45 for a Super Nintendo game" and play ignorant, or to pull the old "cart only isn't worth anything" argument.

Nope, I am one of those old guys who actually played the games the first time around, so to me they were all readily available. I only played Nintendo systems until they dishonored SONY, now I only play SONY systems.

That reminds me...My friend's dad was one of the artists on super mario world and they had a SN that was a Japanese prototype. I wonder if he still has it. I think he had to return it to Japan as part of his contract. I remember we didn't play it much because the dialog was in Japanese. F-zero was easier to play without reading text. I think the buttons on the controller were a different color too. I think they were red, yellow, green, and blue buttons.

Prototype was etched in it. He only had 2 or 3 games. F-Zero, Super Mario World and some other one? It also had a plack (labeled prototype) that if you removed it, the sytem would not function anymore. I am 99% sure it looked like a US snes, but had Japanese text. It was not either of the Famicom designs, but the controller did look like famicom. I do not think the controller had the L and R buttons either. He had it because he was involved as a freelance artist for some part of super mario world. I am going to email him and ask about it and see if he can fill me in on his dad's involvement.

Super Mario All-Stars + World is more rare than the regular all-stars but both are redily availabe, but go for about $25 -$35 on ebay.

Super Mario Kart goes for abou $20-$25

Ogre battle is a rare that i havent foudn yet, although i have found several copies of the N64 version(all complete).

I'm not sure but i think Kirby all-stars is a rare.

Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, and Contra III: The Alien Wars arent rare but sell for about $15-$25.

I found 2 RPGs called New Horizons that I thought were lame but sold for $20 apiece.

There are more but im not sure what they are.

Not sure where to put this, but since this is where I spend most of my posting time, here goes. I may have hit some of you up for a copy of Pikmin 2 in the past, with a story about how it was for my daughter. Well, as I posted I eventually found a copy at a local game store (at a CAG price no less). When I gave it to her she was really excited, so much so that she wanted to make a Pikmin costume. Of course, this had to be the weekend that her usual costume maker (mom) was out of town. So, dad had to do, what dad had to do. Not much to it, but here is the result.

Good call. Hopefully the flower at the top off the head piece will disabuse anyone of ill intentions. Sound pretty cool. I'd be interested in seeing some pics if you could scrounge up any.

Somewhat back on topic, there aren't really any yard sales over here in Japan (partially because most people don't have YARDS! ), but there are resale/recycle stores EVERYWHERE.

I decided to take a slight detour while driving home yesterday and I found 2 amazing game stores.
At the first one I got:

-SD F1 Grand Prix (cart only) for Super Famicom for 200 yen (A pretty cool Mario Kart clone I'd been looking for)
-An "untested" Famicom Disk System with the original manuals and a BOXED AC Adapter for 980 yen
-3 boxed Famicom Disk games (SMB 2, F1 Race ft. Mario, and Ninteno Volleyball) for 100 yen each

First off, even though the Disk System wasn't guaranteed to work, it was a STEAL because of the AC Adapter. Those things ALONE usually go for about $40-50 on eBay.
I hooked up the system to my Generation NEX (awesome NES/Famicom clone console) and the FDS "insert disk" screen loaded up perfectly but upon trying to load a game I found out the drive belt needed to be replaced. I successfully did that last night but I need to futz with the motor because it still won't load disks (I get an error message). Gotta track down an allen wrench first, haha.

I almost didn't stop in the 2nd store because it looked so small and dingy, but I'm SO glad I did. They had stacks of all different kinds of games piled up along one wall and after some digging I found:

-UFO Kamen Yakisoban (CIB) for Super Famicom
-R2: Rendering Ranger (cart only) for Super Famicom

R2: Rendering Ranger is one of the rarest SF games out there and I was ASTOUNDED when I found it among all the usual crappy soccer/mahjong games. Nothing in the store had price tags so I took them up to the clerk (who looked really relieved that I could speak Japanese  ) and asked how much they were.
He said UFO was 480 yen (nice!! saw it at another store for $150!) and R2 was.....wait for it.......280 yen (!!!!!) and then asked "IS THAT PRICE OK?"
I said "YES!!!!", paid for the games with the change and walked to my car high on life. :D

A boxed copy of R2 sold on eBay a few days ago for FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS.
I paid about $2.60 for my cart only copy.

Life is good. :D

Not again...I have to put in more details now:

The traditional first day for garage/yard sales was Thursday. In recent years, the first day for sales tends to be Friday for a multiple day sale and Saturday for a 1 day sale. I think the change is because more households are either single parent households or 2 working parent households. Back in the day housewives (possibly some househusbands) had them and (arguably) had more time on their hands. They would conduct the sale while the children were at school, because the weekends were reserved for family time, coca-cola, and apple pie.

In my city, about half of all sales start on Thursday, but stuff rarely sells, and people usually want a high price because they still have two days to sell it for the price they want. Friday is almost always better, and you usually get first picks that day.

there's a promising sale tomorrow that says 'dvds, cds, games' however they forgot to put a time that it starts and i have to work at 10. i'm just going to try to get there at 8:30 and pray that it starts at 9 or that nobody took the good stuff.

isn't that annoying though? a good looking garage sale and they forget a SERIOUSLY important detail?

I would show up at 8, and if it isnt open yet knock on the door and say sorry to bother you but I saw in the paper that you are haveing a Garage sale today, and was interested in the Games and DVD's, are they availbe yet? I have missed several deals this year already because someone went a day or 2 early and asked about the sale.

In my area, sales starting before 9 AM on a Saturday are a rarity. There's occasionally one on a Friday, but I think I've only ever seen one, maybe two, that begin on Thursdays. Most families are too busy to run a sale during the week and/or too lazy to start before 9 (I see tons beginning at 10, sometimes even 11, and it really throws off my planning).

I would not recommend doing this. It's rude and people do not appreciate being bothered like that.

Also it doesn't specifically say video games. In my experience, "games" usually means board games and things like that.

How close is the sale to your house? Check the sale at 8 or 830, if there's no activity, head back at 9.

I dont think you understand what he is saying. People have started to do that here also. I used to be able to get up at 7 and hit all the sales in a straight line with no backtracking. but now I can hit a neighborhood at 8, and by 11 there are twice as many sales and 90% of them arent advertised so it is almost impossible to know when and where to start/stop. and with gas at $4.00 its not worth backtracking.

Christ, what's with all of the butthurt and winy indignation emerging in this thread that usually has such a sense of community?

I mention, "Hm, sale on a Thursday, what an oddity" and get three people jumping down my throat with "ZOMG TAHTS HOW ITZ DONE NOOB." I clarify that such things are a rarity in my area, and get bitched at for complaining.

Seriously, people, lighten up. This isn't GameFAQs or 4chan.

Generally, this tends to be my favorite thread because everyone here tends to be really chill and supportive of one another. It looks like that's coming to an end.

Queen Greatest Hits Vinyl: 1.00
1.20.09 Bush's Last Day Mug: .10

Today didn't go so well for me. The two neighborhoods I went to didn't have anything worth picking up. Because of a dentist appointment yesterday, I missed out on two neighborhoods. I didn't bother going to them today since I figured most of the good stuff would be gone. I gave up after those two neighborhoods and went to the mall to check Sears and TRU.

I did make one good find at Goodwill though: Fallout 2 (PC) for $1.50.

It seems like my area is really drying up when it comes to games. I might just be facing more competition.

I've noticed this too.. but it goes in cycles.. if you keep at it, you'll notice that sometimes people's interest in it waxes and wanes.. i thought there was elevated competition at my pawn shop.. but it lasted for jsut a few weeks and i've started getting the "good stuff"..

I hit a few sales today without finding much. At one sale a guy just beat me to an SNES . . . the system was in 2 bags and marked $10!

I thought "oh crap that's a good deal.

The second bag had some games in it . . . I couldn't tell much and I was trying to play it cool in hopes that the guy would change his mind on it. He consulted with his wife on the purchase.

I saw 3 boxed games . . . Donkey Kong Country and a basketball game . . . but then I spotted a boxed copy of MEGA MAN X3!!! I've been crying about this all day long . . .

In retrospect, I should've waited until the guy got the system and then offered him $10 for MMx3 . . . he didn't seem to know what he was buying.

The garage sale this morning had some pretty good old WWF DVD's. I spent more than I'd like, but he started talking about how he knows the stuff goes on eBay for about 4 times what he was selling it for, and I just didn't feel like haggling him down any farther than he had already taken the prices himself. Wow, there wasn't much out there today, although I did get a nice find.

In reverse order:

Disney's Cinderella (GBA, new) $0.50 about a block away from my house on my way home at an unadvertised sale

Another unadvertised sale a mile down the road from an advertised one. There weren't any games out, bt I asked, and after a few minutes, someone came out with these and a crappy disc-only baseball game.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2157/2518157105_86d6d7fb17.jpg

They were asking $3 each for these, so I offered $5 for the pair. Unfortunately, both are a little scratched up, but at least they're complete.

Now, this last find was actually the first sale at which I found anything decent. Nothing as spectacular as last week, but I think it made the morning worthwhile:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3162/2518978070_7251f9e8fb.jpg

This was a great find! For $15, I ended up with 5 carded comic action figures from the early 90's (including 3 different Venoms, the other two are secret as they're going into a birthday basket for someone who occasionally checks this thread) as well as what's pictured here:

DVDs:
Blade Runner
Day of the Dead (new)
Superman
Superman II
Queen of Space

Games (all complete!):
Eternal Darkness (GC)
Mario Party 6 (GC)
Resident Evil (PSX, Longbox is looooong!)
Resident Evil 2 (PSX, missing disc 1)

Game guides:
Resident Evil (Capcom guide!)
Resident Evil 4 (Bradygames)

Unfortunately, I got lost a couple of times in back roads and missed some turns, so I used a bit more gas than I would have liked to today (total trip was about 60 miles, so roughly two gallons, probably a little more, so add $10 to the total spent today).

RE4, Eternal Darkness, MP6, and the partially-complete RE2 will probably going up on my trade/sale list, the guides, longbox RE, and CoD3 into my personal collection. So I scored some DVDs and nice rarities (I can't even find the Capcom edition of the original RE guide online) and flipping two of the extra games will probably cover all expenses. They also said that they had a DreamCast that they would call me when they unearthed it (and judging from their collection of Star Wars and superhero memorabilia, I've got my fingers crossed for an MvC2), but I'll probably go back today to check.

Also, tons of people didn't have video games with them and took my number, so we'll have to see how this goes. Plus, there are quite a few sales that are tomorrow or tomorrow-and-monday only, so the weekend is young.

today I went out at 7:30 and decided to try a new route, teh first hosue i stopeed at was not open yet so i went to the next, they only ahd a broken Xbox but told me that a small town about 10 miles away was having a citywide. I drove there and rememberd that it was redneck central. but there is a lake there that has alot of semi wealthy people living on the shore so i drove around it and was told "I already sold my video games" by several people. i finaly found a house that said they had lots of videogames.....she led me to a rack of VHS tapes...I said no like nintendo stuff and she was like we have alot of boxes of that and showed me a tote full of systems and games. I grabbed it a CIF'd $5 she bit then i saw another and she wanted $5 for it also. she said they are all her son's and he will be home later and she will have him get the rest and goive ma a call. Hopefully he wants to sell them!! here is a pic of my first find minus the cables and controllers.

http://joelsinn.googlepages.com/100_1289.JPG

I then went into the town and saw that the whole main street was filled with fleamarket vendors, I didnt fel like walking teh length so i just stopped at a parking lot an dhit the sellers there. the first had nothing, the soned said he had some Xbox stuff and pulled out a box a SNES games with Super Mario RPG on top!! I CIF'd $2 and he said his wife would kill him if he took lesss that $5...SOLD!! This is my second SM:RPG this year!!

http://joelsinn.googlepages.com/100_1288.JPG
I then drove to my normal town and hit tons of sales that had nothing or lame sports stuff. finaly i found a sale that had an Atari 2600 with 50+ games She asked $20 and i CIF'd $10 she bit.
http://joelsinn.googlepages.com/100_1290.JPG

As normal i had several misses.

The miss that upset e the most was a sale that had a sign pointing the wrong direction so i missed it the first time through town and I decided to try to find it when i was leaving town. I saw that it was around the corner from a sale I was at earlier, and the lady there said that she sold a Playstation with 50 games for $15 only 30 minutes earlier!! If I had only took a few more minutes to find where the sign was supposed to point the first time i would be 50 PSX games happier, oh well atleast I got another SM:RPG!!

Congrats on FF Tactics, Caliburn. That's pretty much my favorite game ever.

No games today, but did find some neat stuff:

- 50 cents for a plastic splash block for the bottom of a downspout (one of ours is broken)
- 50 cents on four extra plates in my possibly-discontinued Corelle pattern (Abundance)
- 50 cents on an awesome scrapbooking kit with some specific page elements that I've used before and was happy to find again
- $1 on a black and silver stool that I have no idea what to do with

The scrapbooking kit made me really happy - I'd had a similar one in the past and really liked some of the stuff in it, so it was especially awesome when I got home and found out that the kit basically had not been used, at all - everything listed on the box was still in it except for a marker pen. I kid my family a lot about my "cheap" hobby, so this was a great find, especially since most of the scrapbooking stuff you find at yard sales is Creative Memories "consultants" trying to clear out their stock at still-ridiculous prices (think Tupperware parties or Avon ladies, except scrapbook materials instead of containers or makeup). Got way way more than my fifty cents' worth out of this.

EDJE Video, and Disc Replay both trade Atari games, they dont give much, but last year i got a atrailot with 136 games plus a sega Master System for $5 and traded most of the atari games for $1 credit apiece to a local fleamarket guy!! i'm still kind of tempted for the HD DVD drive for the xbox 360 they have at Kmart for 12 bucks.. but considering its a dead technology with no gaming implications i may pass.. although if it drops below 12 i may have to do it just for the sake of having it.

EDIT:

to the guy above me about the "rare" games.. there are so many sources of "rare games" on this website already.. is it really necessary to have yet another source of "rare OMG" game list?..

heres a general rule of thumb.. if its a RPG from SNES forward.. its a good bet that someone will want it... if there is a recent movie/game (like for instance Silent Hill when the movie came out) then people are probably looking for it.. but for the most part you know what games are good and those games that are good everyone will want ..

the really rare games you really don't want to play.. (there is a reason why they are "rare" after all) and the only 3 i can think of that come to mind that are worth playing/buying

Bauldur's gate dark alliance 2 (for xbox/PS2)
Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (for xbox/ps2/DC)
Earthbound (SNES).

there are others.. (mostly stuff like Tactics Ogre, any game by Atlus really, and Square PS1 gems) that people are after.. here are some "rare" games IMO that really suck

Firefighter FD 18 for the PS2.. that game sucks.. bad..
Gitaroo Man for the PS2 (although i got rereleased on the PSP) I thought it was too easy..
Rez (PS2) has since been released on XBLA

those are the "big" ones..oh right forgot to mention.. Suikoden 2.. widely reguarded as one of the best games of ALL TIME.. i've actually never even seen a copy of this IRL ever..

P.S. I had a minor GS victory today....for the first time in along time i didnt come home with a single SMB/DH cart, but i did get 5 combat carts for 2600. LOL.

I was actually going to contact digitalpress with some ideas I have. Have any of you guys been to their store in NJ? How big is it? Do they ever talk about opening another location?

Went to 2 sales. 1 guy said I have a nintendo, went in his house, but couldnt find it. Other house said he had a Playstation 2, but he already sold it.

I missed last week and only hit a couple sales the week before, so I planned a pretty big route around one of the nearby suburbs today.

http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/4266/dsc04602gz3.jpg

- Macross Digital Missions VF-X (JPN Import)
- Marvel vs. Capcom 2
- King of Fighters Evolution
Total: $1.50

I saw a box of CDs with Macross sitting on top, gave it a look, and was told all the CDs were 50 cents. So I kept looking, and right next to each other were these two Dreamcast games! MvC2 is sadly missing the manual, but both are in very nice condition, just a little dusty.

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/2052/dsc04603wd1.jpg

- Pelican Wireless PS2 controller
- Red Dreamcast VMU
Total: $7

It was a multi-family sale, so a few tables I found these guys. The table was full of game stuff, but it was mostly overpriced. $50 for an Xbox, $50 for a PS2 that didn't always read games, no less than $10 for each game... These were marked $10 and $0.50 each, not too bad. Haggled them down a bit.

http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/9011/dsc04604qm3.jpg

- Rush 2
Total: $1

Next it was off to a huge neighborhood sale. Things started a little slow, but I found a table full of N64 wrasslin' games with this in the middle. They were asking $2, but I got it for $1.

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/5630/dsc04606xe0.jpg
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/5791/dsc04605gh2.jpg

- Genesis QuickShot controller
- Genesis "American GameGun"
- SNES Super Scope receiver
- Dreamcast Keyboard
Total: $6

Found the first three in a box of random stuff, and the keyboard on a table nearby. I'm pretty excited about this one, since my girlfriend owns Typing of the Dead, but doesn't have the keyboard anymore.

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/4313/dsc04607yi2.jpg

- Rainbox Six
- Forsaken 64
- NBA Hang Time
Total: $3

Found these after a long dry spell. An older woman and I both came to the table with games around the same time. I quickly spotted these, but perhaps 30 seconds before, she grabbed a stack including Ocarina, KI Gold, Quest, and Donkey Kong. I've been looking for KI Gold for a while and offered to let her take these and let me buy that one, but she wouldn't budge.

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/5807/dsc04608kl6.jpg

- Fatal Frame
- Obscure
Total: $7

This is another one to remind you to always ask. Two women in their 30s were running this sale, nothing game related was out, but I asked anyway. Lo and behold, she went into the house and grabbed some PS1 and PS2 games, including these. My girlfriend is a huge survival horror fan, so she was pretty darn excited to see Fatal Frame. We had a nice chat about various survival horror games, then asked what they'd like for these two. They named their price, and we took it. I never would have believed that Obscure was worth more than Fatal Frame, but man did I get lucky.

Oh, also we came across these guys...

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/4661/dsc04611wc8.jpg

Just $2 to give them a good home. Who could say no?

But I did get Fear Effect 2 in okay condition, no manual, plus Dues Ex for only $2. Not bad. It's in my topic I posted here. Asked about video games at this sale and out of a barn in the backyard came this. About As dirty as systems get the NES games are going to take some serious cleaning. As I was looking it over the girl said I could have it all for $5 which I paid. I've been hoping to find Ring King as I don't have it and this being the first time I've seen one in the wild over the last few years. Excitebike 64 is the worst conditioned N64 game I've ever seen in person and I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work after I get around to cleaning up these games.

Sega Genesis 1 With Sega CD 2
1st Party 3 Button Controller
1st Party RF Adaptor
2 1st Party Power Adaptors

$2

Saw this without a price offered two dollars which was taken. It belonged to a family member that wasen't around which usually gets me blocked or hindered at a fair amount of sales around me when haggling on just about anything with a price on it but without a price it went ok as they knew that they wanted it gone.

Watermelon N64
1st Party Watermelon Controller
3rd Party Gold Controller
Banjo-Kazooie (PC)
Mario Kart 64
Army Men: Sarge's Heroes
World Driver Campionship

$3

Found this in a shoe box without a price below a table at a sale. Asked if they had any other games at this sale and they said that somebody just bought a big box of games but I'm thinking it was probably just a Playstation as the one lady at the sale though that the N64 was a Playstation when I brought it up. I asked about the hook ups missing and offered $3 which was taken. This is my first colored N64 and the first one I've seen in the wild in years.

Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door
Pikmin (PC)
Game Card Amror Case
Game Boy Binder

$7

The GameCube Games were marked $5 each and were complete and in good shape with no scatches that I noticed looking at them, the others .50 & .75 Offered $7 for everything. The Armor Case are individual casees for DS cards and the binder has pages in it for Game Boy games similar to the pages for sports cards (not exactly sure what they are called) and have a zip lock bag type lock for each spot you can put a game in. Rather generic but neat and I actually could use it has I have some loose Game Boy games without cases.

NES Advantage - $1

Asked about games and from a box down below I didn't check closely enough a lady pulled this out. Has a sticker with a name & $5 on it as if it's been out during a yardsale(s) in previous years and didn't sell. Lady running the sale said I could have it for a $1 as she handed it to me and I didn't bother counter offering as I though it was fair. As I was leaving she said that her son has a bunch of NES stuff that was left behind in her attic that she would get rid of so I left my e-mail with her in hopes that she gets in touch with me about it.

First sale I went to today at 8 as they had Atari with games & extras in the advertisment. I am usually late and in this case it was 5 minutes after 8 as I walked up to the sale. I saw a guy leaving with a big box and saw a loose Woodgrain 2600 on top. I asked him if they had anything else and the lady at the sale said they had another Atari with some games. I asked the guy if Adventure was included in his bundle saying how it's one I've been hoping to find for awhile and he looked and found one and said I could have it! The box probably had about 40-50 games total and what I did see was all fairly common AFAIK and nothing I was too upset about missing noticed 2 Pitfalls in his box along with 2 ETs :D He mentioned that he paid $25 and said it was a good deal and seemed rather happy said that he already had a system but it didn't work or didn't work very well. I checked out the other system they still had and it had a shoe box with 21 games & a boxed system in a small white garbage bag that had writing on it that said $25 with games & extras. I picked out a few games I was mostly interested in and was gonna try and offer .50 per a game for them. I instead decided to offered $10 for the last bundle which was accepted. The lady running the sale was actually really nice and I talked to her for a few minutes, she was telling me how they don't really like newer games and have just recently moved on to the NES fairly recently. Said that one system belong to them and the other was her parents or something like that probably so the kids had a game system to entertain them at the grandparents house.

Didn't see much this weekend. However, was walking through my neighborhood around 5 p.m. and decided to drop by a house that was having a yard sale earlier in the day. I knew they had some games, but most were pretty banged up and they weren't budging on price. So, went through the games and picked up Kingdom Hearts II and DK Bongos. CIF $5 and she stuck to $5 each. Took KHII and left the Bongos. Just don't have the room for them and I don't have the DK game either. Might of been a bad choice, oh well.

Did pick up a pretty cool pair of purple Chuck Taylor's for my daughter. Too bad I didn't wait to put together a purple Pikmin outfit for her. That way she wouldn't have to be accused of being a member of the Klan. Told my wife about the Pikmin costume comments and she was pretty amused. As always with me, my best intentions seem to come back and bite me in the ass.

Update from last week. Didn't post anything from last weekend, but after the dry spell this weekend, my finds appear bountiful. I will consolidate my finds. 2 Silver Gameboy Advance SPs, about 12 decent Gameboy games, and 7 XBox games for $30. Snoopy vs. the Red Baron (PS2) and Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (PS2) $5.

Looks like I will be out of GS circulation for a couple weeks. Taking the family on vacation and will be on the road the next couple Saturdays. Will be checking in though, so good luck everybody.

There were signs for one large sale, it was two parallel streets. For some reason it was scheduled for Sunday, but I checked yesterday to make sure it was right. I went down yesterday, 1 sale, so I thought there would be tons of sales, but there were 3.
3 out of about 100 houses.
So then I visited about 10 more sales, saw a ps2, but I didn't have much money, and at another place I asked if he had any old video games, and he said "Oh like Atari?" and I responded "yes", and he said "Yep, I definitely don't have any of that"
Oh well, there's still all summer.

The first sale had some shitty PSX games (mostly kids stuff) that they wanted $2 each for and shitty DVDs that they wanted $3 each for. No negotiation. I was out of there, but they took forever figuring their stuff out and wasted a lot of time.

Then a few sales had nothing.

Then I went to a multi-family sale that was advertised, but no signs and no street # in the ad.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2010/2521274435_2cecc32915.jpg
Asked about games and they came out with these. Whatever, for a buck each I'll take 'em. $3.

Then, for a while, there was nothing. And then...

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2121/2521274337_308a2af320.jpg
This was an unadvertised sale on the way from one sale to another. Saw a lonely (yet complete, even with expansion pack) N64 with no games sitting in their driveway when I arrived. They asked if I was looking for more video games, and they said all that they had was in this box...full of Xbox classic games. There wasn't anything too awesome there, but they said they only wanted $0.50 per game...so I offered $5 for everything. 17 Xbox games and a Nintendo 64.

This was from something that was advertised but not advertised as being at a storage facility, so I drove up and down the road three times before seeing them put the signs out like ten minutes after it was supposed to start. The lady was being really cunty and wanted $15 for what I ended up with, along with Alone in the Dark on DVD (Uwe lol) and some N64 hookups and two shitty sports games (which I initially offered $3 on). Apparently her son gets first dibs on all gaming stuff thats abandoned.

Only gaming item of any interest. $5, can't say no to GBA games for less than a buck each.

So this was out of roughly 15 sales over 40-50 miles. Everything was far apart and there were some addresses that weren't even there (I had an address for 151 on a road, but the number skipped from 165 to 127. This happened twice. Where the fuck do these people live, Grimmauld Place?)

Eh, I got decent stuff for my $13 today, but nothing that I couldn't have done without. I doubt most of the original Xbox games will see play anytime soon with my PS2/360/Wii/Retro backlog, since the original Xbox didn't have anything that screamed amazing.

No. You don't need a credit card to make a PayPal account.

You do need to link it up with your bank account. But just say you need to use PayPal to shop on some online sites or something like that, which is the truth.

Then just get some money into the account either through bank transfer or selling something.

According to atariage there were only 125 copies of that game made, I can't find it on ebay either. I don't know what to do with it, the game works. Suggestions?

ala wikipedia,

The product itself was not commercially released, and only 125 copies of Pepsi Invaders were made. As a result, it became one of the rarest Atari 2600 games in existence. In October (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October) of 2005 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005) one of the game cartridges was auctioned off on eBay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EBay), and the winning bid was $1,825. The game's ROM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Read-only_memory) eventually made its way out into circulation.

Damn! Good luck with the eBay auction that I'm certain you'll be holding very, very soon. :applause:

I opened up the case to make sure that it wasn't a fake, and I double checked with a picture I managed to find online. It's legit :D, it says K39 on the chip, whatever that means.

Definitely my best yard sale find....ever, I think I'm actually going to keep it

Damn me and my collecting tendencies. :P

Congrats!

Got a picture of it, so the rest of us know what to look out for? I could have a hidden treasure in that tub of 2600 games I've got. Most likely the ones I have with no label are just 10 copies of combat and swordquest!

The Atari lot I just got rid of on eBay (like 100+ cartridges, it sold for just under $40 with $40 shipping that barely covered the actual cost) had a couple each of SQ: Fireworld and Earthworld or whatever the other one was. =/ It really sucked.

Wow, I don't see how you can hold onto it considering you can maybe get a grand for it.

I'd be crapping my pants with eBay happiness. And it's not like I'd actually play the game.

He's got it down, I used to have both of the Tomba! games, and a few other nice rarer ones. But I sold them, and now whenever I think "Oh, I'm in the mood for some awesome Tomba! action", I get a little depressed.

My other thinking is...with each year that passes a few of the 125 carts are going to get lost, broken, forgotten about, etc. The price can only go up so long as there's still Atari collectors out there.

Edit: I'll try to get pics of the thing later tonight.

Yeah but Tomba is an awesome game. I doubt that Atari game is worth more than 10 minutes of play time.

There's a difference between Tomba and a game that goes for $500 (or whatever it will go for). Since my house is full of nothingness entertainment wise, Im coming from a completely different viewpoint than you probably are. I have all the systems, but I just use blockbuster game pass. Why? I play games for about 3 days and then I normally get tired of the vast majority.

I am of the mindset that cash trumps all. Do you honestly in your heart of hearts think you will EVER play that game? Im guessing probably not. Let's be honest going back to your Tomba example. There is a HUGE difference between a fun game and Im guessing a pretty primitive game (though Im the type if someone offered me $50 for Tomba, it would be gone).

If you are willing to pass up the cash on it, then more power to you (or if you have no need for it), but I can guarantee you you will be happier in the long run if you sell it and use the cash for something.

Not trying to persuade you but I just don't get the whole collecting thing.

I think he meant that he'll keep it for collection purposes, but later on he might sell it because the price can only keep going up.

I see what you're saying, but it seems like MORE are being discovered every year. There were 125 made, but only about 22? have been accounted for. So yes, this number discovered will go up, but at the same time the number of games thrown out/crushed will go up.
I think I just talked in a circle, but basically, I'd hold onto it.

That's what a lot of people said about games before they got reprinted by GameQuestDirect.

Obviously there is a difference between those games and this one, but you get to the point of being greedy and just getting what you can get. If I had a $500-$1000 cartridge sitting in my hand that I would never even use, I would be gone of it very very quickly. Why? You never know what will happen as soon as tomorrow.

I get collecting, and would probably keep it if this game was worth $50-200, but a thousand dollars. That's a lot of money you could use to get tons of games that you'd actually play. :D

I'd have to concur with this. I've got a pristine Suikoden II sitting here, and it will be for as long as possible. Why? Its supposed to be an amazing game and I have every intention of playing it.

If it were a game simply known for its rarity, and not gameplay of any kind, and worth enough that selling it would cover car insurance for the year, a big screen TV (or new console with a large game library), or paying off an entire credit card/big chunk of student loans...it would be gone in a second.

True, I would probably sell it. I guess I did sell my $4 copy of Valkyrie profile last year just because it was worth $100

On the flip side...I had 10 copies of FF7 that I sold on amazon for ~100 each. I sold my last one a few weeks ago for $250. I wish I would have waited to sell them, but I figured it would be reprinted or rereleased as a few game publications suggested.

I didn't get a chance to do much yard sailing over the weekend as I went to visit a freind out of town. However I did go to a sale Friday on my lunch. Here's the story.

This was a sale I was hoping to get to so I took my luch break to check it out on Friday. I loked around and found some decent games that I had but didn't want to rebuy. I then found some other misc stuff that caught my attention. I finally picked up the following:

HUGE Pikachu Pillow
Prima's Pokemon Red and Blue Strat Guide
Nintendo DS Case
Spice Orange GC controller
Some misc DS game holders
Fish Tycoon (DS Complete)

After looking for a while longer I then asked what was the price for everthing. Individually it came out to $24. I tried to CIF $15 but finally $17 was agreed upon.

As for great finds that you all have been talking about, I did have a couple earlier his year but had a stellar year last year for this area. Check my flickr account for pics and stories.

Ya, FFVII is one of those games that you know you sell and find another within a few months. I jsut started sellign on amazon a few weeks ago and i listed one in mint condition for $65. it sold in a few days. I should have listed it higher.
