I have a question. When you guys don't see any video games and ask for them and they have them, what kind people and age group are they? I feel awkard asking for games at a sale with people that don't look like video game people.

You should ask at pretty much any yard sale. You never know who will turn out to have some..... even if they are not "video game people" - they might have kids/grand kids/family that are. I ask at most yard sales I go to and have been really surprised when random people have cool old game stuff and just don't think to pull it out for the yard sale...... The worst they can say is no

Finally had a HUGE HUGE weekend for me since it has been dry for a bit...
This was a nice find. I originally found this and almost didn't get it but decided I would since it had an accessory I have been looking for. I found:
N64 Game system w/ power + A/V
Hey You Pikachu
N64 Microphone adapter AND microphone
I was most excited about the microphone. I got some books for my wife and I CIF'ed $3 for all I had and she took it.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2665443701/
This has not big story to it. I ended up going to this sale at 2PM on my way back home and stumbled across this sale. There was a bin of junky playstation game but there was this gem mixed with it as well. I picked up:
Mega Man Legends
The game is complete and I CIF'ed $2 for it instead of the $5 price tag and she took it.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2665446361/
I pull up to this sale with my Dad and found no game related items. However one again the power of asking prevails. The guy running it said he had a Sega still so I was excited about it and still was even when he brought it out. I received:
Genesis Core System (CIB)
Madden '96 (CIB)
PGA Tour 2 (CIB)
The games weren't the best but I'll trade them in. I gave $7 for it and feel I did alright.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2666272762/
This was thw only thing I found during all the Friday sales I went to. I pulled up and started loking and I found the Jeff Rovin book so I thought that video games might live here too. Wrong. However, I did find a large stack of manual for NES, SNES, and N64 games. Notable games include:
DCK2
Pocky and Rocky
RoboCop
Mystical Ninja Goemon
Just to name a few. I got him down to $1.25 for all of it and it was well worth it.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2666275380/
I pulled up to this sale and saw quite a bit there. There were a few PS2 game and DS games but none that struck my fancy. I did grab a DS game and a PS game and I was about to pay when I asked if they had any other games. She responded tellimg me that she had a Super Nintendo with some games. She brought it out and I saw was it was immediatly. I picked it up without hesitation. I ended up with:
SNES Mini System w/ power + A/V
Yoshi's Island
Super Mario World
Super Black Bass
Jungle Book
DCK2
Speedy Gonzales los Gatos Bandidos
Bass Masters Classic Pro Edition
Scooby-Doo Mystery
Aladdin
Timon and Phumba's Jungle Games
Pokemon Troezi (DS)
Blasto (PS)
I CIF'ed $20 since the games were priced and she accepted.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2665557331/
This was a great find in the way of games. I went to this sale and started looking aroung and found a single N64 game and 3 GBC games. I was about to finish up when I decided to ask if there were any more games that weren't out. The kod overheard me and brought out a stack of N64 games and told me they were a quarter each. Needless to say I bought them all. However, the game boy games were $4 each. Not sure how that worked. After all was said and done I ended up with:
Turok: Rage Wars (GBC)
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil (GBC)
Q*Bert (GB)
Aero Gauge (N64)
Mario Tennis (N64)
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
Super Mario 64 (N64)
Diddy Kong Racing (N64)
Nascar 99 (N64)
Goldeneye (N64)
All-Star Baseball 99 (N64)
Triple Play 2000 (N64)
NBA Courtside 2 featuring Kobe Bryant (N64)
Ken Griffy Jr.'s Slugfest (N64)
I CIF'ed him $6 and he finally decided to take it. Pretty good haul.

This was a MAJOR score my dad found while he was out yard sailing where he lives. He called me at work a couple month ago and said that he found a huge box of game magazines and some boxes. He said it was $20 and I told him go ahead and pick it up and I would pay him back next time I was in town. Well, I picked it up today and this is what he had scored...
20+ SNES,N64 and NES game boxes with notable mentions:
TMNT Tournament Fighters (NES)
DKC2 (SNES)
DK64 (N64)
Final Fantasy (NES)
to name a few. Then, there were over 100 nintendo power magazines with a few surprise strategy guides thrown in. These include:
Final Fantasy 3 (SNES)
Final Fantasy (NES)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
DKC2 (SNES)
Then the best was was hidden in the bottom... The around 150 Nintendo Super Power Club trading cards in the official Nintendo Power binders... Amazing. definitly all worth $20.

I'm pretty good about asking at every sale, except for old people with nothing but antique dishes out for sale. Current gen games are the best indicator of classic ones, other things that I had as a kid can be a good sign... Baby clothes usually means no, but once in a while there's a new dad who's ready to move on.
I also have a question, how large are the cities you live in? Population wise.
Around a million in the "metro area", according to Wikipedia.

FFVII complete, other than a couple of very light surface scratches on disc 1, this baby is in impeccable condition . - TOTAL: $3
This sale had several PS1 games, the lady said the single disc games were $3 and double disc games were $6. I CIF'd $3 for this and the lady came back with oh ! that's Final Fantasy that one is $8. I told her (cause she seemed kinda clueless) "do you know this game is over 10 years old?" she seemed surprised and said really? I said yes mam sure is and added are you sure this works? She looked at the $3 still in my hand and said OK I'll take the $3 but all sales are final OK? I took the $3 gamble and it paid off.
Another RE DC and Atari arcade (PC) - TOTAL: $2.00
This sale had a PS1 console only, 2 ps1 games and 1/2 dozen or so PC games. She wanted $10 for everything, I asked how much for a game or 2 and she came back with $2 each. I CIF'd $2 for both which she took. This RE had a cracked case but looks like it was never played disc and book are flawless

Hey guys, this is my first post here. I found this forum and read about the great deals people were getting at garage sales so I figured I could make some extra money this summer checking out garage sales.
Today was my first day and I went to about 8 or so sales. My first sale I got a N64 (one controller and chopper attack) and a playstation 1 (two controllers, case, no a/v cable) for $10 total. It was a young guy so I was a little worried he would want more money, so I offered 7 CIF. He said he was going to do 10 for each and I said I'd do 10 for both. He was apathetic and after a second took the deal. It wasn't the best deal, but I just wanted to walk away with something at the end of the day. Sadly, the N64 doesn't work. It starts up but I get a brown or green screen. I don't know if it's the game (it only came with chopper attack) or maybe dirty connections. I tried another s-video cable from my SNES and had the same problem.
The last sale of the day I got a playstation with one controller and cables for $3. It was an older lady and her granddaughter. It was marked 25 so I was worried about going too low but the young lady accepted 3 right away. It came with an a/v cable so I was able to test both playstations out. They work but both are fuzzy which means it has to be the one A/V cable I was using for both of them.
I also asked a lady about video games and she said her husband used to work at gamestop and has a garage full of stuff. I'm going to call her in a little bit. He probably knows how much each thing is going to be worth, but if I'm lucky he'll just want to get rid of it.
EDIT: I talked to the guy and he mostly has xbox sports titles (not needed), strategy guides, and PC games. No older stuff and the newer stuff his kids use. He did say he had some cables and stuff for PC and consoles so it sounds like a good source for getting some cheap replacement cables when consoles are missing them. They are fairly limited in quantity though.
I also asked a guy and he said he had an atari 2600 with like 40-50 games that he gave to someone to sell on ebay. I gave him my number and email and he acted like he could sell it to me after he did some research. That means he probably won't cut me a great deal, but maybe if there are some rare games I could luck out. Are there any games I should look out for and what would be a good offer to turn a profit for this assuming it's all common stuff?
By the way, I've spent a lot of time reading this thread and its great to see what others have done to work as a guide for my own deal making. I appreciate you guys taking the time to do this. I'll post pictures if I get anything worthwhile. Tommorow there should be a bunch of garage sales.

Today was a good day for sales.
At the first one I picked up:
Star Fox Assault Player's Choice Mint + complete
PS2 Black complete
disc only Megaman X6
Asking $1 each, CIF'd $2.
The next sale I found video games at was good. I got:
SNES (very faded on the top) + manuals
all cables + AV cable
2 controllers
Super Scope + manual
Super Mario World + manual
Super Scope 6 + manual
Extra Innings + manual
NBA allstar challenge
Super Play Action Football
SMB 3 manual and NP strategy guide no game
NES advantage manual only
2 dust protectors
Wanted $10 for the system and $2 a game. CIF'd $8 for all and he took it.
Got a SNES last time I went GSing also, and might give one to a friend. How likely are they to fail on me? Would it be good to keep an extra one?

Ataris usually sell for a dime a dozen at yard sales, personally I wouldn't pay over 20.00 for it, because they don't sell for a lot so you won't be making a ton of profit. You may be able to piece out some games, such at Pitfall 2 or something for about 10 bucks. As for rare games, GOOD LUCK! The odds of finding actual RARE atari games is something that's going to be very VERY hard to do. I have bought so many atari lots over the years, even bought a collection from a guy that had literally 500+ games, and out of that lot only a couple were rare, and they didn't sell for much more than 30.00 each. All the other lots I've bought over the years, nothing rare at all in them.

Batman Forever
Batman Returns
Disney's Aladdin
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Earthworm Jim

Spider-Man: Web of Fire :hot:

Total: $20

I got one from here a while back. It is not original but it works. You need a 9-pin male to male cable. I checked and their prices have increased. It is now nearly $10 for the cable and 3 for shipping. Could save you some money.

After hours of yard sales I got next to nothing. I CIF'd a N64 with like 8 -10 games for $15 which I thought was a good deal and they declined saying they could sell it at gamestop. I reminded them they couldn't and they decided their kids would rather keep playing it sense they marked it at $30. I believe their kids made the asking prices and the parents just went along not knowing its value even after I explained you could get a N64 for $5 at other garage sales.
In the end I picked up zelda OoT, Mario Party, and a memory card for a PS for $1.25 over the entire morning.
I search craigslist for sales, is there any strategy to finding games other than lucking out or emailing the sellers ahead of time?

theGrue -- Knuckles Chaotix is a fairly rare title too, $30-$40 complete last I checked.
I bought a copy for $0.50 at a yard sale last year.

This was one of the few finds for the day. This DVD box set was sitting on the table at this sale and was marked $3. I CIF'ed $2 and picked up Dark Angel Season 1.

No major story on this one. Walked up to a sale and picked up the only PS game they had. I am now the proud owner of Namco Museum Vol. 3 for $1.

This was a good find but it was unfortunate that it was in a thrift store and not a yard sale. However I picked up 6 master system games for $2 each. I got:
Rambo: First Blood Part 2
The Ninja
Super Tennis
Great Golf
Parlour Games
Hang On / Safari Hunt
It was $12 total but not to bad since I hardly ever see these anywhere.

First time in a month or so i went to yardsales, i got some ok stuff:
-GBC games- Pokemon Gold, Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, Arthur (for my little bro) and mary kate & ashley - $3, marked $1 each.
- Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness- $10, marked $15. A little higher than i'd usually pay, but i want to play it and haven't been able to find it for under $25.
-Mario Kart Super Circut, GBA, Sealed. - Marked $10, CIF'ed for $5.
-NES-deck only - Marked $5, CIF'ed $2.
Non Videogame related, I bought 7 cd's for $4. Cd's are surprisingly good for reselling. Last group i got were 6 for $3, which i sold to FYE for $26 credit.

Not incredibly stellar, but I drove around while out of town this weekend. At one sale I found Wave Race: Blue Storm and a sealed Hello Kitty Roller Rescue. They were marked $5 each and I actually didn't even try to pay less because the family seemed nice and I knew it was a good deal. The HK game goes for over $20 used on ebay, so I was happy.

I usually shop some sales on Sat morning on the way home from work. Two Saturdays ago was pretty much a bust except for some baby books for my son, and some baby toys. This last Saturday was a lot better for some good haul.
My first sale was pretty meager, clothes, crappy dishes, etc
Second Sale: some CDs and PS2 GTA Vice City and PS2 Liberty City Stories. No price so I asked the kid (mom was with another guy) how much? He was like $1 CD, $2 per PS2 game. I wipped out $3 and CIF'd him. He kinda hesitated but seeing that money, the haul was mine.
Third Sale: A good selection of electronics, TVs, and clothes, and I saw an N64 with like 8 games and the system had three controllers. Upon closer inspection it looked like the system had been made sweet love to by a cat, dust, and hair. The games weren't in mint condition, but a hell of a lot better than the N64. I asked how much, she said $5 for everything. Wasn't bad, but the system made me queasy. Trying to clean that was way to much work. I offered .25 cents a game and gave her $2. Got Goldeneye, Star wars Shadow of the empire, Diddy Kong racing, and some sport games.
Fourth Sale: Some old lady saying she had tons of stuff, which she did, selling off her daughters and daughters boyfriends stuff (for Meth or whatever). I first noticed a TI-83. Now I had one for high school years ago and I asked how much. She replied $1 or $2, i hesitated then she responded with a $1. I walked around and noticed an upside down game manual. I flipped it over and behold FFVII. (I had noticed a PS1 slim, but she wanted $15 and it was pretty beat up.) I inquired about games but she didn't know. Underneath the manual was a CD book. I flipped through it, some decent CDs, but in the back two pages was FFVII discs 2 and 3. Score, but where was disc 1. I remembered the PS1 and went to open the lid, and behold disc 1. I placed the disc in the binder and showed her the binder. She said $10 for the binder, I CIF'd $5 for the manual, CD binder, and TI-83. She bit, I said thanks and left.
Fourth sale: some PSP cases, PSP headphone jack, and nifty armband - .40 cents

90% of the CD based systems, and NES frontloaders I get have games in them. Just this saturday I found a PS1 and asked for games, another buyer at the sale said "Hey kid look in the system" sure enough there was a Crash game in there. Salvation army is bad about not checking systems for games, there are always games in the sytems they sell, once there was a PS1 with like 5 games stuffed in the drive.

total: $89.50
the PSP really pushed my usual total quite high this week. it was bordering on too expensive, but for some reason i've been wanting a PSP again (sold mine not long after launch) and this just appeared at the right time.
unbelievably, the Debugging Station is my second! (some of you thread veterans may remember i found one about 1-2 years ago with a bizarre beta disc.) i now have two. the first time i found one, i thought i'd never see another again, yet here we are. the downsides: this one is missing the blue Reset button (i'll have to replace it with a grey one), and it's also missing its power adapter. normally that wouldn't matter, but for some reason, this particular model uses a rather unique barrel-type plug, unlike my other model, which uses the typical two-prong plug. since it was missing the Reset button, i managed to haggle the price down from five dollars to three. as a matter of interest, this Station must have belonged to Midway at some point, as there is a Midway sticker on the bottom of it with a serial number. i won't know if it works until i can test it, which i can't do without the fancy power plug. i'm still very happy. for those who don't know, these were used by many developers to test alpha/beta builds of games and it'll play burned discs right out of the box, without modification.
also, the General Chaos is probably the most mint copy i've ever seen; it looks like someone just unwrapped the thing, and is complete with crisp and mint manual, registration card and EA poster. i love this game, so finding one in this kind of condition was a treat.

thanks gang. it's been slow lately, so i think i was due for a nice haul.
i found my old Debugging Station, so i put the two together for a couple photos. the one on the left in the top photo (the same one that's on top in the second photo) is a DTL-H1001, manufactured in October 1995 and uses the standard AC adapter. the other is a DTL-H1101, manufactured in August 1998 and requires the aforementioned DC barrel plug.
the older system obviously sat in a window as the top and some of the sides are a little faded. it's not quite as bad in person as the photos make it out to be, but there is a noticeable difference when you look at them side by side. that i know of, these never had a matching blue controller. rather, they include a dark grey controller that i've never seen (in the wild), but hope to stumble across one day.l

I just got back from yardsaling, (I went on friday because a few were open and I can't make it Saturday) and i got a pretty nice little haul from the first one i went to:
-Genesis game, Arcade Classics, boxed but no manuel: 50 cents
-Sega Genesis Model 2, no cords (x3): $1 each
-Sega Genesis Model 1, two power cords, no a/v or rf cords, two controllers: $2
-Super Nintendo, no cords or controllers, little flap that covers the game conectors missing: 50 cents.
This was all marked the prices i paid. The prices were too good to try and haggle. I was shocked to find a super nintendo, even without cords, for 50 cents. I left behind a Nes w/o cords for $2, because unlike the other systems, i don't have cords to test it, and a playstation one with two controllers (and possibly cords, i wasn't too interested and didn't give it a second look) for $5.
Also, i found a two Nes games at a yardsale on Wednesday (yep, my town has yardsales on Wednesday) that i didn't think were strong enough to post by them selves:
-Kirbys Adventure & Snake, Rattle, and Roll, cart only. Marked $3 each, offered and accepted $3 for both.
I found these in a box with two nes controllers and 5 other games: three sports, Kung-fu, and a simpsons one. It was marked $3 each, so i offered $10 for all. He countered $15, which was more then i wanted to pay ($10 was actually the most i wanted to pay, so it probably wasn't a good price to start with.) I cherry picked these two and offered $3, which he accepted after a second. In retrospect, i probably should've CIF'ed $5 for the games and a controller, but I keep hoping i find a nes with controllers and cords at a yardsale. I haven't seen too many nes'es at yardsales this year.

okay, it wasn't really a yard sale, and I didn't want to make a new topic, but while me and my fiancee were out picking up her wedding dress, her dad called and said he had stopped by to see us, but since we were gone he left some stuff on our porch for us.
We got, a small TV, a VCR, some Juice and M&Ms, and Golden Compass for the 360.
It's a crappy game, but it's a free game. Someone he knew bought it thinking it was the movie, then gave it to him, but since he only has a regular Xbox, he gave it to us.

Pretty slow day for me, but was able to find a few things. Will have a bigger post in the Craigslist thread in a couple of days.
Yesterday I was able to pick up an old Nintendo Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket and around 18 Gameboy games, Gex for N64, and Family Guy Stewie's Story DVD for $30.
Today was able to find a fat PS2 w/ clear blue DS controller, Burnout, Burnout 2, Spiderman, NFL 2k3, & College Hoops 2k3 for $20.
Also picked up a NES w/o any cables and several games (Super Mario 2 & Contra) were the notables for $5.
I am absolutely bulging at the seams w/ NES systems. I need to get off my butt and get new pins for them and get them out the door.

Today kind of got out to a slow start, due to the fact that it started to pour at around 7:30am, so I started late because I wasn't sure if the rain was going to clear.
I only had time to go to about 8 yardsales, but finally found a Genesis with Sonic 1, and F-Zero, and Ocarina of Time (Gold Cart). They wanted $10 for all, but I CIF for $8 and they took it. Not a great deal, but it made a somewhat dismal start somewhat better. The genesis is a little dirty, and the cartridge takes a little bit of tweaking to get it to work, but I think those are both easily solvable problems.

List and prices at GameHoarders (http://www.gamehoarders.com)
Some salers in this thread insist that you should stop at every sale, even if it looks like old junk. While I'm not a fan of following this rule (it usually is just old junk), I'm happy to report that I got my first copy of Vandal Hearts (PS1) today at a sale that was advertising "glassware and antiques." This was at 11:30 too, pretty late in the morning.
Also got a couple of PS2/Xbox kiosk demos. If anyone knows what's on the Xbox demo, please leave a comment, as I don't have an Xbox to check and Google turns up nothing.
theGrue--- quite a lot of quality 64 titles you got there!

I didn't wake up 'til 9:00 and only went to 2 sales. The first one said someone bought all the games already. The second one had nothing out buy baby clothes, but when I asked about games, they came out with these, all for PS2. They all have cover art but none have manuals.
Power Rangers Dino Thunder
Metal Arms Glitch In The System
Pac-Man Fever
Fight Club
Shadow Man Second Coming
Medal Of Honor European Assault
Sonic Mega Collection Plus
The Nightmare Before Christmas Oogie's Revenge (with manual)
Turok Evolution
Frogger's Adventures The Rescue (+manual)
Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2
The Legacy Of Kain Soul Reaver 2
Dark Alliance
The Incredibles
Pac-Man World 3
Fantastic Four
Fantastic Four Rise Of The Silver Surfer
MVP Baseball 2005
Crash Bandicoot The Wrath Of Cortex (Case only, no game)
Told me to make an offer, I CIF'd 10 and she took it with hesitation.
Just noticed they're pretty scratched, so I hope they work.

Haven't been out in a while before today. Not much in the way of gaming, but I did get a few...
Factory sealed Ty The Tasmanian Tiger (gamecube) for four bucks, they wanted 5 and would not go any lower than 4. Stubborn old folks, oh well I've been looking for it.
Sonic and Amy 13" Sonic X plushies, a buck a piece. I didn't wanna pay that much..but it's not often I find sonic stuff.
That was it...there was a Barbie and Ken Star Trek edition set where Barbie was the busty blonde chick who's name eludes me...and Ken was James T. Kirk. I wanted it...but for $10 and previously opened....not so much.

Saw the deal of the year today... I walked up to a sale and saw a purple GB color and about 8 games marked $50!?! I talked with the seller for a few secs about old games and found out she wanted $50 for just the GBC system (not counting the games) - the games were $4 each... and she was very firm with the pricing and believed that it was a good deal?!?! Too bad too as the GB games were actually decent titles (marios, zelda, etc)
What were these people smoking?
On the better side of things.....
I found a Sega Dreamcast system with cables, 1 controller and Test Drive: Le Mans Complete for $1.50 total; and a few NES games for $2 (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, CastleQuest and Metroid).

Hey guys first timer here.
I must say I am so impressed with everything on this site and thecoverproject. I am really looking forward to rebuilding my collection again.
First time doing garage sales and flea markets.
Probably stopped at 20 or so GS and sadly only got Super Mario Bros/Duckhunt, Super Mario Bros 3, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES.
Total: $5 Tried to go 3 but firm at 5.
Next at the flea market I got a PS1 with cables but no controller for $4.
It's in good condition, I just need to clean it up.
Very frusterating for a first time. However I did meet a old white guy who had a garage full of boxes and said he had about 100 NES games, 4 NES consoles, a Sega Genesis with a few games, and a Playsation with soem games. He said drop by next friday he should have them out, if not then I can leave him my number and he will call me when he does find them.
I also left my number with the girl who sold me the NES games, she has alot of NES and SNES somewhere in the house she just couldn't find them, that was another reason why I paid $5 and didn't wanna be to cheap.
Any suggestions on where or when is the best time to go for this stuff? I went from 7-10.

I ran into a bunch of real winners today, first was the lady who had the nerve to shout in my face ITS GOING FOR 50$ ON EBAY!!! when I inquired about a price on a GBA SP that wouldn't even turn on but they claimed it worked. Yes it probably needed a charge but if you want to get full ebay price for your items at a yard sale I suggest you charge your systems BEFORE the yard sale, not just tell people it works and then ask 50$ for it. GBA SP's are also getting old and there's a good chance the battery was worn down or barely working. I didn't even mention a price I just asked how much they wanted.
Then at another sale I saw a pile of hardcore anime porn VHS tapes... the sale was run by an old man... I won't say any more.
Then I run into a couple SNES games for 2$ each where the lady won't budge on the price, they were filthy dirty on the connectors and nothing great so I passed.
Overall I brought home a bunch of toys as usual and a cheat code book for the PS2/PSP for 25 cents. I like to collect guides.

here's a link to what I got today. It was my first time out and I didn't get out my door until 10:15 which I know is late and after all the good stuff is gone, but I had to help family members pack a van and leave for a trip to Canada.
I got from first place a Sci-Fi book called The City: 2000 AD - It is a collection of stories describing how strange and wondrous the year 2000 will be! The person said they didn't have change and wanted a buck. I said how about 50 cents, and they said okay.
Another place later on had some DVDs that looked okay but they wanted a bit to much. There was a bucket of DVDs that said 3 dollars and I saw Family Guy Volume 1. I was going to get that but then a sticker said 10 (because it was 4 discs). I passed on it.
But they did have some good books at the same place. I got 2 Neil Gaiman books for 2 bucks total. One looks in excellent condition and the other looks brand new (not even the faintest crease on the spine). I was going to buy these books eventually anyways, so that was good.
Another place had some video games. They had NES games for 3 bucks a piece, I offered 2 a piece and they took it. I got Metroid, Metal Gear, Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, and Castlevania. I actually can't remember if I have Ninja Gaiden and Metroid already; I will have to check. Ninja Gaiden 2 and Metroid came with manuals, so that was kind of cool. I will have to test the games, but I have a very tempermental NES that I haven't used for 2 years. This same place had a Game and Watch system called Climbers. Its in the box and it looks in good condition. The person wanted a buck for it, but I gave them 50 cents. I don't know if it works though. It had a battery in the box with it and I tossed it in and I got some music but nothing on the screen so I'm going to guess it's dead. It's cool looking though, maybe I can modify into something someday.
One last place I stopped at had a Garfield pencil box on the table. They wanted a quarter and I gave it. It's cool looking but not in the picture.
I did see some crappy sales though, First place I went to had an original X-box for 150 bucks firm. Few other places just had junk. I guess I will have to get up earlier next time to find some of the deals you guys get.
I wonder how you guys manage to hit so many yard sales in a morning though. I started at my first one @ 10:30 and kept going until about 1:30 or 2. Takes a while going place to place.
EDIT:
Just found Metroid packed away.. Whoops.. so I guess I will have to put it on my tradelist or ebay it or something. I couldn't remember if I had it or not. I'll have to keep checking for Ninja Gaiden. I also found out that I own Mega Man 2. I had no idea.

I go with my family so I have to go when they get out of the house which can take a long time, I do my best to get them out of the house early but its hard so I end up going later in the day too, however I find that later in the day you get cheaper prices because people will do anything to get rid of their stuff! You gotta get done by like 2pm though, because most of the sales will end at that time, either that or the sellers just pack up because the people stop coming. Not sure if thats for every area though but when I had a yard sale last year the shoppers were heavy around 9-12pm and dropped off after that, no one came after 2pm. Also no one will come on Sunday so your better off doing a one day thing.

Just tested about 5 of the games, and they all have worked so far. Other than Dark Alliance, that person had terrible taste in games. That Pac-Man Fever had a $29.99 EB price sticker. Who the fuck would pay 30 bucks for a piece of shit like Pac-Man Fever?!?

I usually stop at a store after my yard sale run to cool off and get something to eat, so I wash my hands then, I am a pretty big hand washing freak so I don't usually touch things that are suspect. Not a big fan of hand sanitizer here either, it burns and I don't like the smell.

First sale I went to which I got to at about 8:15. Everything was IAP I didn't even try and haggle has the prices were good for a yardsale IMO and I saw my one friend's bother at the sale when I got to it as it was one of his friends that was selling the games.
Einhander - .75
Saw a CD wallet at this sale that had a sticker on it that said 17 Playstation games and was marked $15 for all. I looked though it and was only interested in Einhander which was the last game in the book. I took it out and asked the lady about just buying that and she said .75 which I paid. Looking back I should have also grabbed the disc only Battle Arena Toshindin 3 I saw in the book.
Diddy Kong Racing
Mario Kart 64
Super Mario 64
$5
Asked about Video Games at this sale and they brought out an N64 with about a dozen games. Wanted $20 for the system & $2 a game. I ended up offering $5 for these 3. It was kind of funny as they had trouble understanding me as their english wasen't very good. The guy went in and got this stuff and the mother of the house was basicly coming up with the asking price off the top of her head. At first she said 3 and put her hand up with 3 fingers, wasen't very clear I though they wanted $3 for everything and gave them 3 ones to which they were confused when I went to get everything and were basically like no no and then I ended up with what I did for $5. Only decent game I passed on was Mickey's Speedway USA.
Non Find Stories
Just missed a good sized N64 bundle - http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4663960&postcount=52
I stopped at a sale today that advertised DS, GB & GBA games. Everything was too expensive. Fable for Xbox $8, for a cheaper Xbox game Legends of Wrestling at $4 and about 20 GBA, GB games even some complete but mostly kids games and all marked about $7, $8 from what I saw just looking over the crap stuff quickly. I was thinking about getting Super Mario Bros. Deluxe and Rayman Advance before seeing the prices but picked them up and saw the prices on the back $11 and $7 respectively. I was at this sale today (Saturday) and the sale started yesterday (Friday) and they were lucky if they sold anything at these prices which it looked like they didn't. I don't even want to try and bother offering something like $1-3 per a game at sales when I see prices like this.

LOL I remember the one time my one friend rented a car from a company around here called "Rent-A-Wreck"(which actually has nice cars and not 'wrecks')and I was like 'the car smells like weed'.
We opened the middle console/glove compartment thing and there was a half smoked joint in there. I just kind of laughed and said 'I guess they didn't clean this car too well, huh?'.

I had another decent weekend again. Here are the hauls.
I picked these up at an interesting sale. There were no games she knew of but was surprised when I found Super Mario 3 with all her books. I offered her $0.25 for 4 comic strip style books and the game and she took it with no problem.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2708483582/
I pulled up to this sale and was immediatly discouraged by the amount of baby clothes there were. However, as a devout gamer, I followed my instinct to ask about games. She immediatly said no but then she loked over at ther freind also assisting with the sale and asked her. She came back with a large box of games. I looked through it quick and offered $7 for the box and she took it. I got:
Yobo NES (no cables)
NES Controllers (x2)
NES Zapper
Alien Syndrome
Klax
Rygar
Legend of Zelda
Karnov
Thundercade
Metroid
Skate or Die
SMB/DH
Terra Cresta
Dragon Warrior
Clash at Demonhead
Bionic Commando
Contra
Kid Icarus
Ikari Warriors
Legendary Wings
Jackal
I was excited when I got this since I noticed kid icarus and terra cresta after I got home with the box. Fantastic!

I have never seen VIC-20 games before until I went to this Goodwill. I picked up four Vic-20 games:
Dig Dug
Gorg
Omega Race
Centipede
I gave $12 for all of them but was not disappointed. Pretty awesoem find I felt.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2707569537/
I went to a thrift store I visit often and found a few games hiwever only 2 stood out. I picked up Legend of Legaia and Red Alert. There was a catch though... Legaia was just a case and the Red Alert game only had disc 2. I gave $2 for both since I have a disc only copy of Legaia at home and disc 1 for Red Alert. Worked out quite well.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2707566791/
This was a good find for starting out. I went to the sale as it advertised a playstation, so I went to the sale in hopes that There would be some games there. However when the asking price for a complete boxed PSOne was only $5, I bit. I also Picked up the Bon Jovi CD 'This Left Feels Right' which is a decent album. I gave $5 for both and was on my way.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2708381802/
I went to a pawn shop that was open and found some cool stuff. Most of all though, I picked out 5 games to add to my colleciton.
TMNT Tournament Fighters (Genesis)
Boogerman (Genesis)
Worms Armageddon (PS Disc Only)
Treasure Master (NES Cart Only)
Shinobi 2 (Game Gear Cart Only)
I ended up giving $6 for all of it. No other real story except it was a good deal.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2707561273/
I found this at another goodwill in the town I was staying in this weekend. I picked up a complete copy of Solstice for the NES. It was only $4 as well.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2707558319/
I went to this sale but no games were in sight. However, I asked and was rewarded. This lady brought out 5 games she had, all of which were sports. However I picked out 2 that were special sport games:
Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
I CIF'ed $2 and was on my way to another hopeful YS score.

That PS1 for $30 is NOT a good deal at all, unless the other 2 games are really valuable (complete FFVII black label, Dragon Warrior 7, Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, Suikoden 2, etc.). I assume the Pam Anderson game is VIP (unless they made one for Barbed Wire), pure trash. RE3 is not hard to find.

I picked up Ridge Racer (PS1) and Street Skate (PS1) for $0.50 each
A Sega Genesis Model 1 with 3 games (RC Pro Am, Sonic 2, and Super Monaco II) and 3 controllers + a complete n64 with two controllers and boxed games including LoZ: OoT (Collector's Edition), LoZ: MoJ (Collector's Edition), DK64, Diddy Kong Racing, and the W-golf game all for $20. The lady was also selling a Gamecube with games for $25. The games were Star Fox Adventures, LoZ: Ocarina of Time, and LoZ: Wind Waker (K-Mart Edition) and all were in mint condition. I asked if she would just sell the games. She replied with $5 and I took it immediately which was stupid. When I got home, both discs in Star Fox and OoT were fine, but the disc was missing in the Wind Waker case! I bet it was in that boxxed GameCube and I forgot to check it, because I was already too excited with the Genesis and n64 finds.
Microsoft Return of the Arcade $0.50
Halo 3 $5.00 <- The guy's 360 red-ringed and he was selling that as well. I was hesistant on making an offer. Buying a used 360 scares me even though I know I can get it fixed.
Duke Nukem 3-D (CD version) - $0.10
Dragon's Lair, Cliffhanger, Joe Montana Football (Sega CD, Complete with no scratches on the oversize CD boxes!) - $5.00
Eye Toy Play (PS2) - $0.50
Saturday
Fallout (PC) - $0.50
Roger Clemen's MVP Baseball (NES, Complete with box) - $1.00
Illusion of Gaia (SNES) - $1.00
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (GB) (Brand New) - $0.50
Super Truck Racing (PS2) (Brand New) - $0.50
Sim City 2000 and Black Bass with Blue Marlin (PS1) - Free (It was just the cases)
Intec GameCube LCD Screen (Purple) - $10 <- I've been looking for one for a long time. I came up on the sale and asked the little kid how much. He said $10. I told him that I would take it and gave him the $10. The little kid grabbed the box (it was complete) and gave it to me. Now, there was a woman looking through some overpriced GameCube sports games which was right next to the screen. Once the little kid handed it to me she said "You know I was going to buy it. I had my hand on it (she didn't)." Another shoulda, woulda, coulda. My response was, "Well I had the money :) " I then left.
I passed up a n64 today for $3. I would have bought it but there were no hookups. That wasn't the real problem though. I started looking at it closely and saw electrical tape around the power cord. When I looked at the power switch it was also in pretty bad shape and must have been handled roughly.

Friday morning before work find! They advertised video games, and I was not disappointed. Games were 50 cents each and systems were $5. Unfortunately, what was there was all kinda dirty and most of the games were sports. I grabbed everything non-sports and an NES and offered $10 for all, which they gladly took. The empty cases were a little disappointing, but at the end of the day, I still got $12 of stuff for $10, rather than $13 of stuff for $10. I can live with that. I left behind a PS1, SNES, two Genesises, and lots of sports games.

Sega Visions and other magazines
Total: $1
Kind of an interesting find, this sale had this stack of magazines and a few Atari and Coleco games. Contains 7 issues of Sega Visions, the 1994 Genesis Games Directory, a Sonic 2 poster, and a Sonic 2 strategy guide-ish thing.

Asked about games at a sale and the guy brought out a box of things, but he was still pretty attached to most of them, which I completely understand. I picked out a few that I didn't already have, and he decided to keep a couple and sell me these. I didn't miss out on anything rare, and it was my first and only game find of the day, so I was fine with it.

Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 2, The (PC) - .50?
I bought a generic portable system soft case about 2 to 3 years ago at a yardsale it was marked a buck I think I offered .50 maybe .25. I never noticed until this past winter that it had Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 2 hidden away inside!
Defender
This is from the Atari 2600 bundle I bought at a yardsale about 2 months ago.
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4393875&postcount=691
I found Defender in the back of the car about a month afterwards and keep forgetting to add it in one of my yardsale pictures. All of the 2600 games were in a shoe box and Defender somehow fell out.
SNES Console Only and Broken
Donkey Kong Country
F-Zero
Maximum Carnage
Star Fox
Super Mario World
Free
This isn't really a yardsale find but I'm putting it here anyways since I don't think it's worth the trouble of starting a new thread. Friend let me have this stuff a few days ago. He couldn't get the SNES to work so I told him to bring it down to my house and I'd have a look at it so he brought down just the system since he knew I had all of the cords and he also brought down all of the games he had with it. I tried it out and it did the same thing for me (just a black screen when you turn it on) so he said I could have it since it's broken and he has no use for the games.
Non Find BS
First sale I went to today (Saturday) advertised a SNES & GameBoy games. I got to the sale only 2-3 minutes before it started as it said no early sales. SNES looked like it had all of the cords and included a Super GameBoy & a SNES Advantage and was marked $50[!]. Beside it was a box with about 20-25 regular GameBoy games each marked $5 but little to nothing that I needed. I would have grabbed a few if they were cheaper since they all had cases and a good chunk of them had manuals. I picked up Star Wars & Empire Strikes Back which were the only decent games I didn't own. I went up and offered $5 for both which was countered with a simple no so I put them back. This easily sets a record for me on the highest IAP on individual GameBoy games & on a SNES at a yardsale.

$2 for all these guides, magazines, and a book
The GBA games and the guides were all at one sale. I couldn't pass on the GBA games since I've hardly gotten any good game finds lately. That and you don't seem them boxed like that very often. Now I have to decide if I want to keep them or ebay them.
I'm rather happy to add a couple more RPG guides to my collection. The guides I found were in this huge pile of magazines. The pile was mostly NP, EGM, some gamepro, and tips and tricks. I grabbed those two NP magazines since I figured some collector might have an interest in them.

I got these 5 N64 games for 7$, the girl was asking 2$ each but at least I got her down a little, I tried to CIF 10$ for the whole lot of them which would have been amazing but she didn't bite. Needless this is a very good find of top titles.
The DS game was 1$!!
The GBA games were 1$ each they are going to ebay with other games or to my cousins. These were bought at a different house than the N64 finds, however at this house it was funny because she had high prices on junky toys (10$) that were clearly labeled from the sharper image (they went bankrupt) however when I asked about the games they were cheap!
I saw a pretty weird site at a church festival, it was a Sega CD and Genesis in a blockbuster rental case, it looked complete but who knows, they were asking 15$ so I didn't buy. It was also sitting in the direct sun for a few days. I find that things I get that are donated do not work because no one would donate a working system, at least in my area, so therefore I don't usually trust systems that are bought at church sales or the Salvation army.
I haven't seen any gamecubes yet. Last year I hit on a lot of gamecube games but haven't seen any since them. I have to watch the prices because gamestop sells a lot of cube games pretty cheap so I have to be careful that I don't overpay. However a stash of first party games would be nice to find!

One of the earlier sales I went to on Saturday, I saw a cloth bag on the ground, with a NES controller peeking out, so I'm looking in the bag, it's random video game stuff, couple cart games, cords. I ask the lady if there's more video game stuff, she says she has no idea about the stuff, it's from her niece or something. I offer her a buck for it, she's happy and I take it off her hands.
NES power adapter
RCA video cable
NES RF switch
Genesis RF cable
power adapter from a 2WIRE device (likely AT&T DSL)
NES controller
Genesis controller
N64 - Hercules (horrible, filthy condition)
N64 - NBA Live 99 (horrible, filthy condition)
Tesserae for Gameboy
a bunch of dirt
I picked up NCAA 06 for PS2 at another sale for 50 cents, good trade 5 filler at GS.
And I found the unreasonable expectations sale too:
The next sale, within walking distance, I didn't buy anything. There's a big sale, with one lady at a table taking payments and whatnot. At one end, there is an old woman guarding a bookcase full of PS2 games and crap PC games. On the table next to it is one of those metal travel game cases, with a GBA SP in it, along with a light for it and some other accessories, and about 20 games. I ask about it, $200 firm, I ask if selling games separately, No. Then she starts talking about how expensive the games were to buy as I'm walking away. As we browsed the rest of the sale, it was weird, she seemed borderline hostile to almost everyone asking about or looking at the games.

Yep sounds exactly like the kind of people that don't realize that yardsales are about taking a day or two to get rid of unwanted stuff that isn't being used and think that they are going into business like a store right in the front yard!

There are a few houses that have "permanent" yard sales here (and no they don't throw stuff on their lawn, they have it in the garage). These are always the most overpriced but after a while you get to recognize the houses and addresses so you can avoid them. A lot of the merchandise I find at these permanent yard sales is stuff that target or another retail store discarded or was on clearance very cheap at some point, either that or its stolen. I don't go to yard sales to buy merchandise that was discarded by a retail store, there is a reason the stuff didn't sell in the first place!!!
I even found one yard sale where I know all the merchandise they were selling was stolen. I don't know about anyone else but if I had a ton of stolen merchandise I wouldn't be sitting out on the lawn trying to hock it, all it takes is one person to blow you in.
I am really savvy and I have spotted the exact same merchandise at several different houses even, there might be a few people in my area that are running a yard sale business or something, lol. I see a few of the same people selling at different houses yet its the same merchandise. The thought of that is pretty funny. I think it would cost more in gas and transportation to do that than even if you sold one or 2 of your overpriced items. I am not sure who would go into business buying stuff at yard sales and then trying to sell it at your own sale. People go to yard sales to buy low priced items, they don't go expecting to find a retail store on your front lawn. As another person mentioned, the point of a yard sale is to get rid of the junk you have in your house. I also don't know how these people afford the $25-30 per week the paper charges to place an ad for a yard sale and all of the ads we find for these are in the paper.
Then there are the people that have the same merchandise year after year at the same prices. I don't even know where they store the stuff and I don't want to know. I can't imagine leaving your whole garage filled with yard sale stuff so you could open it up to the general public for a couple days year after year, methinks that space could be used for something better! These people usually have tons of stuff that never sells, and its the same stuff every year. They act as if it magically gets more valuable as the years pass.

I see a fair amount of this in my town and have gotten to know which houses have a yardsale once or twice a year now. This last week was pretty weak for me as I went to about a dozen sales and about 6-8 of them were sales I've been to before. I will stop at a repeat sale just incase anything new of interest is out but will usually pass on taking the time to ask about video games at a sale that I've been to before.

if it isn't obvious, this was a tremendously uneventful weekend, yard sale-wise. not much to say about the NES game and Crazy Bones. the X-Arcade was lying amongst a bunch of clothes. i asked the family selling how much they wanted and one of them said they were selling it for a friend and he wanted $10. i tried to get them to go lower, but they wouldn't budge, reminding me that it didn't belong to them. i bought it anyway, of course, asked if they had any games (they didn't), and then split. i have it hooked up to my PC right now -- it works great!
here's hoping for bigger and better finds next weekend...

oh, i'm definitely not snubbing that deal. the X-Arcade is one of those items that i'd always look at with longing and say, "you know, someday i'll just go nuts and blow a wad of cash on one of those...". then i'd come to my senses and find something else to obsess over. now that the thing has landed in my lap, i can honestly say that the quality, response and construction are easily worth the retail price, if you plan to use it often. they aren't lying when people say it's "just like the real thing". it's also easily the most heavy-duty gaming accessory i've ever owned.
for the record, i have mostly ire in my heart for joystick accessories, since 93% of them suck, horribly. this one definitely resides at/near the top of the other 7%. if you like a traditional US arcade feel, you would love this thing.

Not really a yard sale find, but I am looking for assistance from the "yard sale minded." A friend of mine at work is cleaning out his house and wanted to unload some videogame stuff and knew I would take it off his hands. He said not to woory about money but I figured i would give him a reasonable price for the following items:
SNES Control Deck (redesign, in box, looks to be played about one time)
Superpad Controller (InterAct)
SuperPad Controller (original packaging, InterAct, licensed by Nintendo)
SNES Games
Brunswick World Tournament of Champions
F-Zero
Jeopardy
Killer Instinct
Madden NFL 95
Pilotwings
Super Mario World
Super Off Road: The Baja
Super Pinball: Behind the mask
Super Punch Out
Top Gear
Wheel of Fortune Deluxe Edition
NES Games
Karate Champ
Super Mario Bros./Duck hunt
Super Mario Bros.
Golf
What would you all pay for this at a yard sale? Of course we would all pay a dollar, but I am looking for a reasonable amount to offer the guy. All the SNES games are in great condition but no boxes. The SNES system and box could be passed of as brand new, it seriously looks that good.

Nothing too valuable for games, but with the SNES redesign, I'd probably go $40 or $50. But then again, I missed one on craigslist by about an hour this weekend for $20, so I'm looking for one a little more than I was before.
Anyone got a comparison pic of the original SNES next to the redesign? I've looked and looked but couldn't find one. Just how much smaller is it?

Yard sale offer would be not much more than $10. Can't really compute a real offer. I'm sure in reality the SNES is worth a little, and the redesign probably a little more. My used game store sells the originals for $50 and I have sold them for $30.
My suggestion, take him out to a good lunch or dinner instead. Especially if he really means not to worry about the money.

thanks! these are the first "Bones" i've owned, but i'm a freak for small collectible toys (especially from the 80s), since they don't take up much space and there's usually a lot of unique characters.
i plan to pick up more Bones as i find them. fun little guys. oh! and i just found out (by coincidence) that 3 of them glow in the dark!!!

Getting the collectible toys at yard sales is the best way to get them! Even if you have to get them after they are popular at least you got to experience what they were all about without spending the cash. Most people and parents here have so many toys on their lawn that they are practically giving them away and are very glad when someone comes by wanting to buy toys.

LOL, I think some or all of the games at the end stages of the NES's life stopped coming sleeves (and also, the blank sleeves came with third party games adn the Nintendo marked sleeves came with first and maybe second party games). Cost cutting measure.
Same as how Sega Genesis games stopped coming in plastic boxes and switched to cardboard, SNES games stopped coming with the dust sleeve eventually, and Playstation games stopped coming in the long/tall boxes fairly quickly.

I found a huge(like 1.5 SQ ft!) tote of old G.I. Joes and ninja turtles, as I was getting the $5 to pay the lady she said, oh wait, im gonna just put this on Ebay. It's probably still sitting in her garage!!

I am referring to modern toys here, people around here just don't think they have any value when their kid has already played with them. Plus the kid often has so many toys, they just don't know what to do with it and they just want it GONE! There are certain things you can find that are worth money on ebay that will only cost you a few cents or dollars at yard sales.

CBs aren't super-valuable, but look 'em up on Ebay -- they ain't exactly free, either.
and as for valuable old fad toys, pretty much anything from the 80s. He-Man, Transformers, Micro Machines, etc... depending on what you've got, a lot of that stuff is worth big bucks.

Yeah there are collectors for everything, especially from the "pre collecting" days before EVERYONE started collecting and keeping sealed, mass produced toys (think the 90's and the return of the Star Wars figures).
Stuff from the 80's and earlier - toy collecting actually exploded with the baby boomers, who started paying huge money for their old toys, board games, lunch boxes of the late 40's, 50's, and 60's on - all in an attempt to recapture the nostalgia of their childhood, relive their unit and find their inner child. Much of those toys came from overseas emerging/postwar economies in southeast Asia (though much was still being manufactured and quite well in the good ol' USA), and used to be considered junk.
LOL - I mean it started with the Japanese after the war, and early on their stuff was mass produced cheap knick knacks and considered pure garbage, and they progressively improved the quality and now they are considered to have the best quality products in the world, then the cycle went to Taiwan, South Korea, China and on it goes...
Anything that is tin, aluminum, thin steel sheet, alloy or made of metal/iron/die cast and old is generally very collectible. Old board games. Old pre-plastic lunch boxes with characters/shows/toys of the 80's and earlier. The toys themselves, especially the better the condition and if it has all accessories, original packaging, no discoloring/fading/broken pieces etc.
BTW I don't know about Crazy Bones, but Battle Beasts >>> Crazy Bones and those little mini pink Japanese wrestlers from the 80's. Battle Beasts were the BOMB. I regret selling my set of 40 or 50 or so complete ones for a couple hundred on eBay (same with some of my vintage, old school die cast giant robots). But I needed to thin the toy collection. I still have a ton of original Micro Machines - are those actually worth something?

I second the fisher price toys, I sold all of mine from the 80s a couple years ago on ebay and considering they have been through like 3 generations of children including my parents, me and my young cousins they looked VERY good. We got a ton of use out of those toys and then we got money back for them in the end on ebay! However only certain things are worth money, and in good condition, the typical worn out stuff you find at yard sales will only net you .99 and shipping costs on ebay.
I also did well selling a tuff stuff shopping cart (orange and yellow), I got almost 50$ for it, shipping it was a pain but the item was worth a decent amount so I put up with it. I am sure my mom only paid 10$ for it when I was a kid.
Some of the VHS tapes are rare, I also agree with you there. I collect old VHS tapes because face it you can get them for 25 cents at most sales around here, and there is always something I want. I collect old nickelodeon tapes when I can find them, some of them go for a lot of money depending on what you get. The problem with this is its hard to value something you found, like I found a VHS of The Litt'l Bits (Volume 3) at the SA for 1$ its nearly new and includes the coloring book however I can't seem to get a value on it from anywhere and Amazon doesn't have it listed in the product catalog. Also, I have a feeling that people are completely overvaluing stuff on Amazon when it comes to VHS.
Another thing you can pick up for cheap at yard sales is children's bedding, it sells well on ebay, just make sure it has some outdated character on it that is not being sold in retail stores anymore.

It's just good ol' "all in good fun" racism, a total trip. I didn't think Disney actually released it on DVD, or at least HEAVILY edited it. I thought the only DVD copies were bootlegs.
It's definitely a movie everyone should check out, and understand that it was a different time and place when it came out. Same with Birth of a Nation.

ICO Complete - $5
Only went to 5 sales in town today got ICO at the first sale I went to which I got to at 8 or just before, I went to this sale first as it advertised PS2 & Xbox games in the ad. When I got to the sale 3 people were already looking though the games 2 of which I've seen around before including the guy that just beat me to an N64 bundle a few weeks ago. They had a ton of PS2/Xbox games probably about 100 with about 2/3 being PS2 & 1/3 being Xbox, easily the biggest lot of PS2/Xbox games I've ever seen at one yardsale around here. Looking over the games I saw some good ones but nothing really worth anything or that I didn't have and the only one I picked out was ICO. It's a safe bet that I didn't miss any gems (something like Marvel vs Capcom 2 for example) I saw one guy had about 4 games to which I saw he had Brothers In Arms or a similar game on top and the guy that beat me to the N64 bundle recently was on his phone asking somebody what games they were interseted in, he had 4 games he picked out all Xbox racing stuff like Project Gotham Racing. I went up and paid without trying to haggle as I was more concerned with getting to the next sale before the competition then trying to shave off a few bucks on a PS2 game that was still a good deal at $5 even at a yardsale.
Game Gear System
X-Men (Game Gear) - not pictured as it's in the system
NES Advantage
NES Zapper
SNES 1st Party Controller
N64 Transfer Pack
Xbox 360 Wire Controller
Super Mario Kart DS (Which was in the case for Bust-A-Move DS)
Grand Theft Auto Double Pack (Missing the disc for Vice City)
$2
Found this at the second sale I went to. All of it was in a box on the ground that was labeled "Nintendo accessories $2" The Grand Theft Auto probably should have been in a box right by this one that had a few other Xbox games in it. They let me have the Grand Theft Auto with the box lot since it was missing a disc. I didn't even take notice to the 360 controller until I was leaving the sale and the DS game was under the advantage which I didn't even notice till I got home. Odd lot with old stuff and new stuff added in that was out of place and still holds some decent value but these people knew little to nothing about games as when I asked about video games the lady said she thinks they threw out some games as they didn't know what they were and she though they were GameBoy games thinking back about it when I asked about video games.

Ah! Yes, very true. I wouldn't mind getting an uncut/uncensored copy on DVD (from Disney, not a bootleg), because it is very interesting to step back and see these works, to get an idea of the times.
So much has become politically incorrect, a lot of it rightfully, some not so much. But these sorts of things are always interesting from a historical and sociological perspective.

Went out again this morning, albeit raining like crazy. Spent another $1.35 on a purple Gamebody Advance w/ 2 games, an electronic dartboard, and another Windows 2000 disk. This one is OEM and says it's a preinstallation kit. Anybody know if this is a full version or not?

A week or two ago I got a snes and genesis console with a couple games like super mario and sonic (the regular, not the "not for resale") for $7. I got a snes game genie and cartridge cleaner which was kind of cool. I was there at the start which was 6:30 and a young guy was already there picking up a bunch of snes games. I ended up getting all the manuals and if he got what there were manuals for, it looked like he picked up the first two Donkey Kong games. He also had an N64 which I tried to get in the deal. Even after explaining how cheap N64s go at garage sales, he said he could ebay it for a lot more so I didn't even bother. I already have one and just wanted to resell. I tested all the stuff and it works fine.
At another sale that day, I asked if they had any video games and a guy got some of his old xbox games. I just picked out what I actually wanted which was halo2, star wars republic commander (like new, barely played), and mortal kombat deadly alliance. None have too great of resale value except maybe star wars, but I got them all for $5 which he quickly accepted. I have halo 3 but I will play the halo 2 campaign before getting into the halo 3 campaign to go through the whole story. (I beat the first one). Too bad MK DA doesn't work on my 360 which is all I have. ($140 with games, hookups, and 2 controllers on craigslist for the xbox 360)
As far as recently, it seems the yard sales are dwindling down here. I guess it's quality over quantity though. I went to about five sales today and only one had anything worthwhile. Luckily for me, it was a PS2 system and some PS1 and PS2 games. I only had twenties on me but I found Final Fantasy VII Greatest Hits version, Parasite Eve (didn't know if it was worth anything, but I figured it was better than the other stuff), and I got the system with a memory card and controller plus all hook ups (only missing a back plate) for $20 CIF. I know they've gone cheaper at yard sales, but I could only CIF what I had and the guy was younger which worried me. He happily accepted and I double checked to make sure the system worked and had everything. I kinda wished I would have offered 15 or something because he probably would have taken it, but I'm happy. I don't have a PS2 and 20 for the working system is hard to beat elsewhere not to mention a great game.
I just tested all of it and it all works. Both games are complete with cases and manuals. They are a little scratched but seem to work ok.

I think I still have a Fisher Price parking garage or something around here from when I was a kid. I used to coast my Matchbox cars down the ramp(and also see how many I'd have to cram into it to lock up the working elevator for the cars). That is, unless my family gave it(like they gave my tabletop Pac-Man and Mario's Cement Factory mini arcade machines)away to the assclown who shoddily built our house for his lil brats.
I think I also have my old Transformers sheets lying around here someplace too. They're REALLY old school(Generation 1).

Slept through my alarm today and was a little worried I'd miss everything, but I didn't. Because it was all overpriced. N64 and games for $50, fat PS2 with a Madden game for $100, SNES and N64 games at $10 per cart... Oy. Grabbed the first two N64 games from a guy who had a ton of things, but wanted some pretty high prices. $25 for a Master System, $75 for a SNES and games, et cetera. Talked him down from $20 total on Cruisn' and Duke. Not great games, but they were the only ones I didn't have already.
Second two N64 games and Kameo came from the sale with the $100 PS2, I managed to talk her down from $10 for each N64 game after a while, and Kameo was bought as marked. The disc is pretty dirty, but doesn't look scratched at all. Just lots of fingerprints.
The last 3 games came from the only sale with decent prices, $1 per game. Which is a little high, but most of it was Genesis stuff complete in box, just nothing too interesting.

I went back to the sale I got ICO at yesterday. I figured I'd stop by at noon today to see what they still had since I knew they were going to have a ton of stuff left and though they might even mark it down if they were serious about getting rid of all/most of it. They still were asking $5 each and I could tell that they weren't going to budge much from that price per a game if at all. I asked what's the best they would do to which the guy asked how many I was interested in, $20 for 5 I ended up grabbing four and offering $15. Not as cheap as PS2 games are sometimes at a yardsale but I figured I'd go back and grab a few since I'll probably never see this many PS2 games at a yardsale again, I was hoping they'd do $3 a game if not better and would have grabbed Dynasty Warrirors 3 also.
It looked as if they only sold about 20% (maybe up to 25%) of the games that they had when they started yesterday. I even counted the games today when I stopped by at noon and my guesstimate on how many games they had was off. I counted just over 100 PS2 games still left and just over 40 Xbox games so I'm guessing they had fairly close to 200 PS2/Xbox games for sale when they started!

Nintendo 64 system with super mario 64 today for 5$. I am very happy as I have been looking for Super Mario 64 forever and did not want to pay ebay prices for it. Its just the standard black system with gray controller and it also came with a very nice memory card that has a slot to replace the battery inside of it. The controller is in good condition too and doesn't have the loose joystick. It was missing the expansion pack but luckily I have an unused jumper pack here which I will stick into it. I also got some DS game cases and a GBA wireless adapter for 50 cents. Also a PSX game called ball breakers for 25 cents, its complete.
The fisher price parking garage was one of the items I sold on ebay, so if you still have it, you should sell it too. I got like 20$ for it and it wasn't even in the greatest condition. I also used to coast hot wheels cars down it, it was really good for that.
I had pound puppies sheets and little mermaid sheets as a kid however they were so worn that I don't think anyone would have wanted them. I think those were the only 2 characters I had. The pound puppy sheets were used for blankets, beach towels etc so they were really really worn. I still have the pillowcase that goes to the little mermaid set. I think I still have a pound puppies blanket laying around here somewhere but believe me the condition is very bad, I think we used it to lay stuff on for sale at our last yard sale.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I always hear about finding FF7s and this was the first time I've seen one at a garage sale, but I've only been going for a few weeks. Even though consoles always catch my eye, high demand games are the best for resale with higher prices and the lowest/easiest shipping.
Now I just have to play through it and beat it before I can actually get rid of it.

Today I found Smash Bros for Gamecube and Red Steel for Wii. 10 dollars for both. Person wanted 5 dollars per game so I took it. Had a copy of Call of Duty 4 too, but when I looked under it was mint except for a big deep circle scratch all around it. I'm gonna guess thats the big scratch that happens when you move a 360 with a game in it. Guy seemed very surprised that it was there. Other games look very good.
Aside from that very tough day. Out of 5 yard sales I went to only 1 had these games and I had to ask and they went inside and dug em out out of a closet. One other place said they had games but they were sold right before I got there.
I'm a little pissed about the number of non-yard sales from places that said they were having them on craigslist. The few times I've gone out on Sat morning theres usually a few of these but there was 7 today that I went by with nothing there, and this is at 9:10 - 10:30 am this morning.
Seems like I wasted a lot of gas, but oh well. I'm gonna try and email the people from the yardsale and tell them if they find some other games to email me.
I'm not gonna bother with a picture of the 2 games, you all know what they look like. Not exciting enough.

This happens to me a lot too, and these are listed in the paper where they pay for the ad, I am not sure if they just misprint the address or the people just don't put anything out and cancel the sale. I have drove by a ton of supposed yard sales with no sign of any merchandise anywhere.

I didn't get a chance to post last weeks finds so I am going to recap my last 2 weeks on here. Here it goes:
This was nothing to special. I pulled up to this sale way out and they were selling PS2 games for $1 each and DVDs for $2 each. I picked up the following goods:
Tomb Raider (PS2)
Tiger Woods 07 (PS2)
Pirate of the Carribean 3 (DVD)
I CIF'ed $2 and left with goods.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2748717018/
While on the way home from yard sailing I stopped across 1 more sale. While there I asked if they had any games since none were out. They said they did and I was handed a handful of NES games after a couple minutes. I was handed:
Mickey Mousecapade
Adventures of Lolo
SMB/DH (x2)
Roger Clemens MVP Baseball
TMNT
Tetris
The Chessmaster
I tried to CIF $2 but we settled on $3 so wasn't to bad.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2747881861/
Not a bad score here. I managed to pick up the 1st season of Spongebob Squarepants for $3. Good Enough
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2748713434/
The was the last sale I went to today. I ended up stopping even though I was tired and ready to take a nap at home. While there I initially spotted an NES. It had a $5 tag on it so I CIF'ed $3 and got with it:
NES (Complete w/ 2 controllers)
Robocop 2
SMB/DH
$3 NES? Yeah, I'll take it.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2747878113/
This was the first sale I went to today. I managed to find nice items. I ended up seeing a table with N64 games marked $3 each and GBA games marked $2 each. I grabbed 3 N64 I didn't have and all 3 of the GBA games on the table. I picked up:
Aidyn Chronicles (N64)
Resident Evil 2 (N64)
Mace: The Dark Age (N64)
Pokemon Ruby (GBA + Manual)
Pokemon Sapphire (GBA)
D&D Eye of the Beholder (GBA)
I CIF'ed a $10 for all of it since I just came from the ATM and it was taken quickly.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2748707774/
This was by far one of my better scores in a while. I pulled up to this sale that was supposed to start around 6 AM but was started late and thank god... I started looking around and noticed thatthere was a playstation with no games. upon inquring about games, I was told there were no playstation games but that some nintendo games were there. I went back to the garage with the guy running the sale and he started handing me SNES games in the box. 7 in total. I asked how much for each game and I was told that they were $2 each. The games I was holding were:
7th Saga
Robotrek
Lufia 1
Lufia 2
FF: Mystic Quest
Uncharted Waters: New Horizons
Breath of Fire
All of these in the box with what I would give an 8/10 rating on condition of the boxes. I CIF'ed him $10 and I left quickly before he might have realized what he sold. Awesome addition to the collection indeed.

Yea, to find an original copy is pretty hard to find .. In box .. Anyone can copy the VHS tape.. But to have an original is hard to find.. Im a SUPER HUGE Disney fan and the price for the original VHS in box is around $50 bucks
As far as I know, Song of the South was NEVER released in America on VHS.
Most of the VHSes on eBay are copied/dubbed from the PAL release, as there was a VHS release in Europe (incompatible with NTSC players).
I could be wrong, and if so, please provide sources, but I research this stuff constantly.
It was also released in Japan on laserdisc (under the title Minami no Uta), which is the "best quality" commercially available.
And as others have written above, the odds of Disney ever releasing this movie again are basically nil.

To all those out there finding old NESes out there on your yard sale trips, I want to recommend a seller on EBay for 72 pin replacements. If it is bad form to post this here let me know and I will edit it. The seller is videogamesupply and he/she has a storefront. I bought 6 replacements w/ combined shipping for aproximately $55. I have installed 3 so far and it brought each one back from the dead. Not trying to be a shill or spammer just want to recognize a good seller. I have about 6 or 7 more to fix now.

ouch. the black plastic piece with all the pins right? a couple years ago, there was a guy here who was selling them at the flea market for a dollar apiece. i bought two (he was pressuring us to buy them 20 at a time, and lowering the price to fifty cents each), thinking that for that price, they must not be that hard to find or profitable. guess i missed the boat there.
i used one to repair one of my NES systems, but the thing still seems kinda fidgety, so i haven't even bothered with the second. i should've just bought every one the guy had and gave them away on here. if i see him again, that's what i'll do.

A quick question about genesis:
The one I bought at a yard sale and my friend's both say HIGH DEFINITION GRAPHICS on the circular part around the place where you put the carts in. Mine doesn't. Is it a different model or did the text on mine just rub off?
There were at least 3 different models of Genesis, so yeah it's possible. Mine says it, and mine is pretty much a launch/first generation one.

They were probably poor quality connectors, most ebay sellers stand by their connectors and if they don't work they will send you a free replacement. Last time I bought a connector it was about 6$ shipped I think.

well, i considered that but i'd be curious to know whether there was that much of a market for replacements -- profitable enough for there to be competing manufacturers, and further still, some make high-quality replacements while others make inferior ones?
like you said, sellers will often send you a free replacement if the first doesn't work. that makes it sound like they're assuming a decent portion of them are expected to fail, which would make the overall quality sort of "hit or miss". if they can afford to ship one out for six bucks, still make money and not bat an eye if the thing needs to be replaced, it's likely the same product that i bought for a buck.

There are different quality connectors.
And if you know that most of a product will work perfect, you would say that you can get a replacement if it doesn't work.

Just got back from a townwide sale that was seriously populated with a lot of rednecks. Disturbingly so. Games were pretty sparse (saw Nascar 98 through 2001 for PS1 marked at $15 for all 4. Yikes). Did come across a few sweet things, though.
Buzz Lightyear wall clock -.50
Stool for drumming (Been looking for a cheap one for playing RB) - $3
Kiss album Destroyer (has Detroit Rock City, Shout It Out Loud, Beth among others) - $2
3 frisbees - .35
After striking out in games for a while, I hit a sale that had a few games, but the only good one was RE4 for PS2 and it was a greatest hits copy for $5. I didn't bite, but I did get the God of War stratgey guide (minus the DVD) for $2. Next sale I hit, got Rise and Fall of ECW DVD for $4.50, which I've also been trying to find for less than $10 and finally did. Final sale of the day I found a GREAT surround sound system, brand new and working, for $20. I put $5 down and am going back to get it tomorrow. I was quite happy, considering how the day started.
Total spent (including the $15 I haven't yet paid for the surround sound system) - $32.35

I am doing 2 days of yard sales this weekend, so for day 1 it was rather dry however I did pick up a disc only resident evil 3 nemesis for the PSX for 1$. They had 3$ on it but I got them down to 1$ cause it was really scratched. They had other PS2 games however I don't have a PS2 and there were no other recognizable rare titles there. I also got a pokemon backpack and the usual load of toys for 3$.

I said I would post this tomorrow, but I decided to tonight.
As I said earlier I got off work early so i decided to go Sailing in the town i work in, usualy I cant find anything here but when i do i find gold. Today i got tons of no's but after driveing down 1way streets for what seemed like forever i pulled up to a house and asked for games, the lady said over here so i walked to where she was and to my suprise there was a stack of NES and N64 games I asked how much and she said $2.50 apiece so i replied I mean all together she paused for a minute and replied how botu $20, I probably could have gotten her down to $10 but all i had on me was a $20(not good CIF bait) and the games were easily worth that or more in trade bait. So I grabbed up the 15 games on the table and started to walk awany and she yelled there are more boxes so i went back and saw a box of SMS stuff, and another full of NES stuff. I nearly crapped myself when i saw Megaman 5 on top of the NES stack, I have been looking for it forever!! Here come the finds.

Here are the NES games from the Haul, for some reason one of the previous owners(Ben T. -You Suck) felt like numbering and putting his name on his carts. My Magic Eraser will take it off though.
I'm glad to say that there were some NEs games here that I didnt have a copy of yet, It seems that I have only been finding duplicates lately.

Texas Instruments TI-99/4A. Basically the same idea as a Commodore 64. They are on ebay, prices vary. I picked one up at a yardsale last year with about 10 carts for $3. Sold it in a bundle a few months later when I decided I had too many nonsense systems.

Not much luck today. I had a guy who I believe was a reseller buy a PS2 and some games right as I was getting to a sale for $35. The guy asked for 45 and the costumer countered with how he picked these up for like 25-35 and the seller accepted a lower price. I checked out the other games and there wasn't anything good.
Another sale a guy had a really dirty PS1 with a 3rd party controller. Before I could make an offer he said twenty. I said I can give you a few dollars for it and he declined. I couldn't have sold this thing on ebay, craigslist, or anywhere else for $20 and he wants $20 at a yard sale when I don't even know whether it works. Needless to say, I just walked away without even bothering to reason with him as I wanted the cables more than the system.
The last sale I went to had a couple worthless xbox games. The sellers weren't even there. Everything was just left out even though the sale had started.
Other then getting some kitchenware, I didn't find anything.

I didn't go to too many sales yesterday. The only thing I picked up was these two EB Ice devices for a $1. They're coolers with pumps in them. You put ice and water in and it pumps cold water through a pad you can put on a knee or back. I thought they looked interesting. If I don't like it, I can sell them on ebay for around $45. I'm tempted to do that anyways. It would put me closer to picking up a PSP.

My day was average. I couldn't get a ride, and there was only one sale in biking distance. I got there at like 6:30, and the lady there said her friend is coming in 10 minutes and she might have one game to sell. I had nothing to do, so I waited there and helped the lady unpack the stuff for the sale, because she was old and couldn't move the heavy boxes.
Her friend came, and had this box of games and DVDs IAP $2 each. I CIF'd $5 for all and she took it. They looked perfect but in the light of my house scratched as hell. But I've tested a few and they've worked. I got:
Games: (All complete)

:dvd:Spiderman (In the box for Antz)

Hit up two yard sales today. Found the following at the first one:
GBA (cart only):
Beyblade V-Force
Duel Masters Sempai Legends Limited Edition
Fire Emblem
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus
Warioland 4
GBC (cart only):
Pokémon Crystal Version
Went to the next yard sale and found nothing, decided to go back to the first one and found even more GBA games:
Fantastic 4
Kong: The 8th Wonder of the World
LEGO Star Wars: The Video game
Lilo & Stitch 2: Hamsterveil Havoc
Power Rangers: Dino Thunder
Sims 2
And the cutest orange kitten ready for pickup at the end of October! :D
The funny (?) thing is this: When I got home and tested the games, Warioland 4 had the Mode 7 cracktro, and Prince of Persia had a Eurasia cracktro! (which, according to my research, is for the US release of the game) :-k Wow, did I just pick up a lot of pirated games or what? I'm not really disappointed or anything, as I believe finding pirated games in the wild in Denmark is pretty uncommon.

Pass on disc only copies of Vagrant Story, FFVII, and FFTactics. Why would I pass? A (no case or manual), B in poor shape and c, he wanted $8 a piece, and wouldn't come down. I thought $3 CIFed a piece was fair, discs were smudged and there were no cases. Oh well

Dude, you could've resurfaced that FFVII for probably $3 for all 3 discs, then listed each disc on ebay for $25 each BIN and sold them. Kind of high for a GS, but you would still be making $64.
So true, that's what i was thinking, I purchased a disk only FFVII earlier this year, Selling Disk only is a great way to make cash, Disk one will sell for a good $25-$30, With games like FFVII that are multiple disk games the frst disk is the most used so it gets the most scratches and needs replaed the most so on and so forth with the second, the third disk isnt quite as hard to find, I think mine sold for $8. But ya, you probably should ahve grabbed it, I dont blame you for leaving the others, I cringed when i picked up a Disk only FFT 3 weeks ago.

Sorry, It's a huge tangled mess, and some of the carts are dirty and soem have the covers comming off, I did count and there were 169 carts and some chips, Im not sure if the chips ar eprototypes or if someone just thought it was cool to take the cart off the board. I'll post pics of them later in their own thread. That's pretty awesome. I hope to find a haul like that.
You could opening a SMB/DH or something shitty like that and switch chips to see what they play...

They are all Atari stuff, and they all have the titles on them in masking tape. The only non atari games in the lot were the SMB 3 and the Allstars+World, not as impressive as my haul from yesterday though!!
P.S. does anyone know where Snotknocker and Moitey went?
