Only found a few stuff but after looking online I passed up some stuff I should have bought.
Got:
Beyond the Beyond
Wipeout 64
Gex 64: Enter The Gecko
Paid: $5
For some reason I wasn't thinking straight cause I passed up Parappa The Rapper and Command and Conquer for the Saturn. Oh well, I wasnt really interested in playing those games anyway, they would have been a building block to my collection.

The first sale I went to I got the memory. I got both for $10 hoping they would work for my laptop, but it turns out my laptop uses slightly faster ram. Oh well, I could put it on craigslist.
The next find is the bundle of Nintendo stuff for $10. I got it mainly for the Mario GBA game. I don't know what to do with the other two GBA games. I think I'll sell the original Gameboy, but I don't know what I'll do with the Gameboy Color and games. I also got a state quarter book from them as well.
My last find was the two CDs for $4. I got a nice piano one and the first album by Toto. I liked the music they did for Dune, so I thought I'd give this a try.
I got a ps1, 2 steering wheels w/ pedals, 7 games and 2 dvds for $20. Nothing of note.
However my wife got the motherload:
She found an N64 and SNES with hookups and 1 controller apiece. Also:

southpark
world driver
no mercy
killer instinct

I had my own yard sale this weekend and made like 65$ off junk. Whats really sad about this area is you can't sell much at a yard sale. First of all the average income for my city is 27k. Second its probably even lower for my immediate area. I had to give away a shelving unit for free and an old stereo that worked for 3$ just so I didn't have to junk it. The person who bought the stereo carried it home several blocks on foot and it was heavy too! Third people simply do not have cars to haul home your stuff off your lawn. They can't afford gasoline to drive. I had everything marked REALLY cheap, like 25 and 50 cents. Most of my customers were customers that had walked well over a mile (or were from the immediate area) to get to my sale and could only buy what they could carry. It was really sad but I was able to make some money off junk and get almost an entire room cleaned out. Someone did buy an N64 for 15$ which was very good, but overall you can't sell any item thats over 10-15$ here because its simply too much for this area. The people who bought stuff were really thankful that I was selling it very cheap. The economy going down is really showing here.

Crazy Minigolf 3D - Free
Asked about games at this sale and the lady showed me this that I missed that was with the books. She said that she thought it was chinsy (sp?) and didn't like how it controlled with her trackball mouse. It was .10 and when I asked her about change as I only had a quarter she said I could just have it lol
Baseball Stars - $2
Cyber Stadium Series: Base Wars - $2
These were actually from a Thursday (8 family) yardsale. I've been to this house in previous years, $2 was the asking price and I usually don't even bother haggling any more on stuff with initials as it's usually not in the sale runners hands when that's the case or they come down in price a little bit at best sometimes acting like your trying to rob them in haggling! They also had Othello, Bases Loaded II & some Sesame Street game I passed on. I have been wanting a copy of Base Wars (but not bad enough to go the online route for it) so I figured that $2 would have to work even if it seemed rather rich compared to most yardsale worthy NES finds.
Pokemon Red - $1
Found this at an unadvertised yardsale I passed by, they had a GBC with some hunting game and Pokemon Red in the system. I asked about buying just Pokemon Red and the lady said she would take a dollar for it which I gave her as I felt like she was being nice letting me buy just the game at $1 and didn't think it would good yetiquette (yard sale etiquette) to counter with something like .50 (a buck being good enough for me anyways).
Atari 2600 Controller Plug & Play - .50
Saw this at a house I've been to before with no price. Picked it up and asked how much .50 which I paid. I'm pretty sure I saw this plug & play at this sale before but didn't bother with it and I can't remember why (maybe had a high price that time or because the sale was busy and I didn't want it that bad and figured they'd want to much if it didn't have a price on it etc)
Super Smash Bros Melee [Best Seller] (Complete) - $5
Saw this with some other GameCube & Playstation 2 games all marked $5 probably the only other ones worth that or more being Pokemon Channel & Pokemon Colossem that I passed on since I didn't have much if any interest in them so I knew I'd never get to playing them. Didn't bother haggling again as $5 was good for SSBM and it was tagged with a kid's initials. This lady actually recognized me from a yardsale at this house two years ago and remembered taking my number as she mentioned having a Sega Genesis when I asked about video games 2 years ago. She apologized and said she lost my number (shortly after taking it) and it sounded as if she never did find the Genesis stuff.
Tyco Power Plug (SNES, New)
Monopoly (SNES, CIB)
Sim City (SNES, CIB)
Super Solitaire (SNES, CIB)
$5
Unadvertised sale, the people were still setting up a lot of stuff when I got to it at about 8:30. I found the Power Plug sitting out and the middle aged lady helping her parents set up said a buck would do since it wasen't priced. I asked about video games and the older lady running the sale mentioned a box with some game stuff around that she saw the night before that she didn't put out yet but would hold for me once she found it if I came back, I was thinking it could be a SNES with games. I came back a half hour later and the lady's husband put it out after being asked to put it aside lol It was a box with what I bought along with some DVDs, CDs etc and 3 other games I put back (2 golf games & Wheel of Fortune all CIB for the SNES) When I came up with what I got along with the 3 games I put back the older lady got her husband to wheel and deal with me mentioning that she doesn't know anything about this stuff. The husband came up and asked what I got, I was thinking about opening up with $3 for it all but he was pretty much assessing what I had right away asking me what it was and came at me with how about $15. I walked away thinking about it and put 3 games back to which a guy looking though the box that came up as I first started looking though it in a joking way asked if I wasen't getting the deal I wanted (over hearing the guy) when he saw me putting back a few games. I walked back up to the guy and CIF'd him $5 holding what I ended up with which he said ok to as he was trying to settle his dog down that was staked into the yard on a lease near the tables set up.
When I was talking to the guy he mentioned something about a system and not being sure where it was. I was thinking they might find it but it didn't seem worth waiting around for or coming back later and dealing down on the price if they unearthed what could be a (boxed?) SNES. I figured it was probably gone years ago as not seeing any side scrollers or good action games in the bunch of games they had. I was thinking that gramps might not have realized it if Jr took the SNES with him years ago with the games he'd actually play (Super Mario World etc) only leaving behind what he'd never play and considered the dreck.

Asked about video games at a sale, it was an older couple probably in their 60s maybe abit older and mostly knick knacks out for sale at this YS, definately not the yardsale you would expect to yeild anything video game related by asking. The lady said that her husband had a NES and flagged him over as he was out by the drive way kind of like he was working on the floor (if this was a store) he went in and brought out all of this stuff then walked off. I said something to the lady about how he didn't talk prices and asked if it worked which she said it was last used by the grand kids about a month ago and it works. She said how about $15 to which I replied back with $10 which was taken. I thanked her and the guy on the way out for the trouble of rounding up the stuff as I was leaving. NES Open Tournament Golf was in the system and the Metroid box had all of the manuals in it.
This is the first time I've seen Mega Man 6 in the wild and with that Mega Man 5 is the only NES Mega Man I haven't come across in the wild over the last few years. I didn't look at all of the manuals until yesterday but was really hoping for a manual for Mega Man 6 to be in the bunch as I actually have a Mega Man 6 box that a buddy gave me years ago when he was clearing out some stuff to appease the old lady.
Pretty good week yardsaling overall and my biggest list of sales this year (went to about 21 sales just in my town with only 2 being just outside of town). I'll have to remember for now on that the last weekend of summer is when most people figure is the last good chance at having a yardsale for the season around here.

Went to a YS and did the usual ask for games and they responded that they just sold it to the guy "over there". Went over and struck up a conversation with the guy and asked what he got. N64 & PS1. I asked if he had any games in there and he said "Smash something or other". He didn't seem to be to interested or knowledgeable so I asked if he wanted to sell it. He said $5 and I took it.
Smash Bros. (N64)
$5
Was at another sale at a church school and found a big pile of PS1 games. Came across a GH Metal Gear Solid in really good shape and asked how much for all the PS1 games. Lady said "I don't know, $3 apiece?" Looked in the wallet and only had $2. Took the $2 out of the wallet right in front of her and $2 CIF'd. She got a little bit of an attitude and said that because it was a double disk, she was charging double and would only accept $3 for it. Wha? $3 = $6 in church math. I told her I only had $2 on me and that I could find PS1 games for $1 all the time. She would not budge.
So I trudged back to the car. I decided to look in the change holder and found $1 in miscellaneous change. Ordinarily, I would have just headed on up the road, but the game was in really good shape. I headed back to the lady and told her I found an extra $1 in change and she responded with "So that's how you are?!" At that point I could have punched her in the mouth. I called her a smartass and did a 180 back to the car. I was in full magazine rack and glitter mode. Funny how something as trivial as a 10 year old video game and a person with a not so great attitude can play with your emotions.
As an aside, I was watching My Name is Earl last night and there was a scene with a yard sale in it and I found myself scanning the tables for evidence of video game stuff. I think I may have a problem.

I stayed home today. Most of the neighborhood sales in my area I've been to many times over the last couple of years and think they've been picked clean for the most part when it comes to classic stuff. I decided to save on gas this weekend.

Phantasy Star IV
Spiderman
$5
Picked these out of a genesis and a pile of games. The guy wouldn't go any lower than 2 for 5, and he said he had a brand new nintendo in the box he sold earlier that day for $30. >_<
60 National Geographics - $3
These were at two different houses. One lot was a dollar and the other was 3.

Just like two weeks ago, I only went to one sale where they advertised "Nintendo System and Games!!!!!" Ended up buying, all cart only for the N64:
-Goldeneye- $1
-Legend of Zelda: OOT-$1
-Gauntlet Legends-$1
-Hydro Thunder-$.75
All of the $1 ones were in generic cases that were made for N64 games, since Hydro Thunder was loose I imagine that's why it was cheaper.
Passed on a number of gamecube games for $5 each, a 64 for $10, a few wii games for $20 each (Including Trauma Center:SO and Mario Galaxy) and 3 N64 games (Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Extreme G-3, and Starfox) for $1 each.
Block sale
Castlevania Sotn GH - $4 bucks
Final fantasy 7 BL- $4
I seen also seen mario kart 64, but the lady wouldn't break up the bundle.

Saw a GC marked $2 at a sale today. Purple version, no controllers or cords. When I asked the woman about it she said she had a game for it, couldn't find it and when I asked about the cords she said she didn't have those either, but I could pick them up at the game store. There was a disc in it and she said "No, there was one in a case". She then said "how about $1.
Don't know if it works, but the 1st party memory card and the scratched up Super Smash Bros. in it worked just fine on my platnum one at home. Will test the Cube itself in a few days or so.

I saw a bunch of games today but since they were Xbox360 games I do not need them and the prices were high (well I don't know if they were that bad if you wanted the games it was probably a deal)
Saints Row Xbox360 - 7$ they had some other games all at 7$ each, nothing notable
Gears of war $30 and misc Xbox 360 games for 30$ each, looked like all top titles but don't know if that was a deal or not. This was at a different house, I have been to this house before and saw nothing but overpriced games in the past.

Decided to take the day off. However, I got a call from a person that knows that I hit up yard sales for games. She said that there was a sale only a few blocks from my house that had a bunch of game stuff that they were practically giving away. Went there and they had a complete NES, Dreamcast w/o power plug, and a couple loose PS2 games. Guy said he had a ton of stuff that he accumulated over the years as a manager of a CompUsa, but most went really early. Did pick up one game though:
PaRappa the Rapper 2 (PS2)
$2
Don't know much about it, other than what I read here. Figured my daughter would like it.

nah, Spiderman's pretty low in value. i used to really like that game; i got it for Christmas the year of its release, along with the Arcade Power Stick!
Phantasy Star IV used to hold a decent amount of value. i'm guessing it still does, considering how few and far between RPGs are, on the Genesis.

it's been too hot lately, and i didn't go to very many sales. i can't wait for the cooler weather to start in a month or so -- autumn/winter is really the prime-time for yard sales around here. picked up Overlord on a whim; it's actually pretty fun, and vaguely reminds me of the Deception games on the original Playstation. also, finally got my hands on a cheap copy of Groundhog Day, so that was excellent; it's one of my favorite movies.
lastly, the PS3 remote was a little on the steep side for a used purchase, but it's in new condition and it's at least half the price of retail, so i'm still gettin' a deal. now i really, really need to pick up an actual PS3 system!
here's to next week!

If you like rhythm games, you'll love parappa if its as good as the first one.
The songs aren't quite as catchy, but it is a heck of a lot easier to get through. They have a "warm up" round before the song starts, and while playing, it shows your button presses on the line so it's easy to tell how early/late you are with them.
No game finds this week for me, but I only hit two sales on Friday on my way to work. Did get a nice pair of headphones for $5 to use at the office, though.

I love it when i see someone selling Xbox360 games for $30 at garage sales, I saw someone that had some old 360 sports games for $30, I told them that they were a bit high and the lady got mad and said "they are woth about $60 at walmart" I LOL's and said maybe 3 years ago. I also find it funny when poeple are selling FFVII for $2 at a sale and a crappy 360 game for $30.
P.S. Has anyone else picked up systems from the same house 2 years in a row? I think some people around here sell a system then think they need another and go buy one.

I had another good weekend. Once again... Quality not quantity
This was something I have been waiting on for a long time...
I pulled up to this sale on my way home from work. After looking around, I asked the elderly woman if she had any type of game items. She said she didn't but asked me if I could tell her what something was. She pulled out this box that said Vectrex on the side and I almost peed myself. I explained to her that it was an old game system. She then responded by asking me if I wanted it. I looked at it for a second and we pulled the system out. However, I soon found that the system was not there but only the back of the system. Also there were 4 COMPLETE vectrex games in the bottom of the box too. I offered her $5 and took it. Upon further inspection this is what I found:
Vectrex Box w/ Styrofoam, Manuals, Minstorm overlay and manual
Armor Attack (complete)
Pole Position (complete)
Star Trek (complete)
Solar Quest (compete)
I hopefully will find a system soon that I can play these on...

I almost didn't stop at this sale. This was one of the perpetual yard sales that goes on weekend after weekend. I am glad I stopped though this time. I asked if there were any type of games at all after scouring for a bit and the proprietor of the yard sale pointed me to the back of the sale and said that there were some games there. In the bottom of the stack I found:
Devil May Cry: Capcom 5th Anniversary Collection
It had $10 on it and I asked if they would take any less. She said $5 and I was gone with it.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2897859113/
I went to this sale as it was advertising cheap games according to the ad. I get there and start looking around and found the following games:
Jet Moto 3 (complete)
Final Fantasy 7 (Black Label Disc 1 only)
These were marked $2 each but I asked that since FF7 didn't have all the discs if she would take $3 for all of it. She did so now I have an extra FF7 Black Label case...

No major story here. I was digging through a box and found this Goku Action Figure. Gave $0.25 for it and left.

I went to this sale just since it was there. I looked around and didn't see any type of video game items so I asked. The kid ran inside after telling me that he had dome N64 games. He brought out a pil of them and told me his mom said they were $2 each. I picked out the following:
Super Smash Bros.
Donkey Kong 64
I CIF'ed $3 for both and he took it.

P.S. Has anyone else picked up systems from the same house 2 years in a row? I think some people around here sell a system then think they need another and go buy one.
Not 2 yrs in a row but this Spring I got a Dreamcast with a couple light guns, then this fall I got a N64 and some games from the same place.
I only went 2 times this year also. Both weekends I went this same house had a garage sale and I got 2 systems. I was happy.

nah, Spiderman's pretty low in value. i used to really like that game; i got it for Christmas the year of its release, along with the Arcade Power Stick!
Phantasy Star IV used to hold a decent amount of value. i'm guessing it still does, considering how few and far between RPGs are, on the Genesis. It seems to be hovering around 20 bucks.
I'm gonna keep it though.
Found III for 5 bucks at a used game store last week, and II today for 8, so all I need is the SMS one.

I just got a huge lot of atari stuff from a friend's sister, this was purchased some time back though possibly last year, the price on the box was 5$ and it had a heavy sixer console, many games and many manuals in it. Also had a playstation with no controllers but there was Driver 2 inside of it and a memory card, and an atari flashback 1 unit and a Ms Pac Man plug and play. 5$ is quite a deal for all that.

Okay so im gonna start this off by saying hello I am new. I saw this website about 2 months ago and it made me start to go out to garage sales. So these are my finds for the past like 4 weeks. Pics are out of order by far.
My first garage sale i was very nervous because I never went to one before. So i get there have no clue what to say. The only thing i know how to do is use business tactics. I also learned Cif. Okay so i went to the house and i didnt see anything so i started to leave. I saw a box that said nintendo wires so i opened it. Saw 2 nes controllers and the tv output. Asked how much and he said 10 dollars. I then was able to get him down too three dollars for all of it.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3033/2910714590_d49601bd58.jpg?v=0
After not finding anything for about 1 hour I decided to go to a far away yard sale. I decided to start asking if people had video games. The lady said she had a colecovision. I was so happy and i went to the system. I asked if it worked and she said it did. I asked the price and she said 40 dollars. i was able to get her down to 15 dollars. When i got home i plugged it all in and i found out the system didnt work. Now i know nvr to buy anything thats in a bag all shoved in.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3224/2910714508_0275cddef2.jpg?v=0
Atleast it came with nine games (1 being an extra Donkey kong).
It also came with 4 colecovision remotes, 1 sega genesis (sega arcade power stick) and all of the wires.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3041/2909868765_19b7ed6e9f.jpg?v=0
Next time I went out I got some things but not alot of videogames.
First area I went was a neighborhood sale with alot of young families. I asked one person if they had video games. She said yes and then told me shes not putting it out today. I asked her if i can look at them and buy them. She said no its gonna rain and i dont wanna bring them out. I didnt wanna argue with her so i left. The next house i got these 3 simpsons movies for a dollar all together. She wanted a dollar each but she gave in. Then the next sale i got Metal gear solid 2 for 1 dollar. It is complete. I also got a SNL best of adam Sandler sealed for 1 dollar.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3180/2910714466_a7d3ac5159.jpg?v=0
Then i was going to a house then said in the ad video games for sale 1 dollar each will bargain but for some reason their was no sale at the house. So i went down the block and I went to a house. I bought these 2 controlers for the computer for 1 dollar each.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3264/2909868749_6cf48ae322.jpg?v=0
I then went to some more sales and picked these up. I got both rugrats movies together for 1 dollar all togther. I also got dougs first movie and rockie and bullwhinkle together for 1 dollar. I then went to another sale and got a NJD special puck and 60 MTG cards for 1 dollar each. I then went to another sale and i saw The Wizard. I saw the Angry video game nerd where he talked about it. I searched the movie on the internet and this is not the cover art that i saw before. The movie cover says on it Screening Cassette. Is this rare? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3063/2910714522_4c17d21558.jpg?v=0
The Next week i went to a special outdoor sale at the train station. I was speaking to a crazy lady about her video games. She had a looked like broken Nes and about 10 games. She said that it was 15 dollars for the Nes and then she would sell me each Nes game for 1 dollar. I asked if i could buy the nes games seperate and she said no. I then bargained with her and i got Metroid Prime and Mario/Duckhunt/World class track meet. Each was 1 dollar.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3002/2909868817_9395e3479e.jpg?v=0
Then i walked to another place in the sale that sold video game systems. The main reason i go to garage sales is to get a dreamcast. I saw a dreamcast and the guy wanted 20 dollars. I didnt wanna pay 20 dollars. He also was selling 2 nes games for 5 dollars. So i asked him if I could have the dreamcast for 17 dollars and then ill buy 2 nes games for 5 dollars. He accepted and i got a dreamcast with 1 controller, fighting force 2 complete, Ninja turtles for nes and Dr. Mario for 22 dollars.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3191/2909868837_72a92537b6.jpg?v=0
The next week it was raining really hard so i decided to go to my local play n trade. I picked up the megaman X above for 5 dollars. I also got a vmu for 6 dollars, And a remote plus rumble pack for 5 dollars.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3204/2910714578_09e078b893.jpg?v=0

You don't need to be afraid of sytems in bags generally, but it's all relative to what you pay for it. If they won't let you test a system or have no way to test it don't offer more than $10. I generally don't go more than $5 on untested systems, unless there are a ton of games with it.
"It worked last time we tried it" is generally nonsense.

Neverwinter Nights Platinum (Complete ?) - $1
Saw this without a price and offered a buck for it. I don't know what all it came with but it had all 4 disks and came with a manual so it's complete if it didn't come with any extra maps etc.
Platinum GameBoy Advance With Charger
Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets (GBC)
Incredibles, The (GBA)
Pokemon Special Pikachu Edition (GB)
Powder Puff Girls: Battle Him, The (GBC)
Spongebob Squarepants: Legend of The Lost Spatula (GBC)
Top Gear Pocket (GBC)
$8
Found this at the second sale I went to today that I got to at about 8:15 that wasen't gone by that time even with all of this in a bag marked $8. I didn't even bother haggling down since it had somebody's initial by the price. I didn't think it would be good yetiquette either to try and offer less to the two nice old ladies running the sale seeing as $8 was good already. They also had some PS2 games each marked $4 that I passed on only one I would have grabbed if I didn't already own it was a greatest hits copy of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time.
Saturdays seem less competitive in my area this year and I've even seen some Saturday sales that seem about dead shortly after 8 this year even when it was nice out not just today late in the Yardsaling season. I would think that I'd have a much better chance of missing something like this GBA with games cheap if it was at a Friday sale. A good chunk of the yardsalers around here must go out Friday only with the way gas prices are.
I passed on some PS2 games at a sale that I heard the lady say were a buck each to somebody else. They had about 10 games but nothing I'd ever really get around to playing and had little to no interest in so I didn't grab any even if a buck is about as cheap as PS2 games get.
I went to 9 sales and 3 out of the 9 of them had steering wheel controllers which is definately one of the biggest video game drecks that people having a yardsale put out that sits around and don't sell. Reminded me of an episode of Married with Children I was watching yesterday were Al said that people only sell junk at yardsales :D

The only thing I got were 3 PSX games for 2$. The games are You don't know jack, Tetris plus and Crash Bandicoot warped. I didn't go to a lot of sales.
I follow a simple rule when buying games, if its untested or "it worked the last time we tried it" then I only pay the price I would pay if the item was broken, you have to assume its broken when your buying it, and only pay that price. If the price is any higher than like 5$, simply don't buy it. If they don't sell it to you and you really want it you might want to cruise by their garbage the next day cause the console will likely be in there. You have a better chance with cartridge based systems, if your buying stuff like PSX's and other consoles that are disc based its best to assume they are broken immediately, if its a disc based system and the price is high I wouldn't even look at it. Disk based systems are notorious for breaking down. Electronics from the 1980's can break down over times, since some of these systems are from the late 70's they are 30 years old or more, connections break down and stuff. Don't be afraid to tell the yard sale people this, you might get your stuff cheaper. You can also point out other flaws and bring the price down that way. If you had a friend into electronics they could probably repair the colecovision. Also assume when buying very old games you are gonna have to throw out at least half of the stuff you get in a lot, especially when it comes down to controllers. If you get multiple controllers, plan on throwing out at least half of them. These things just break down over time. When picking up a big lot of games (like 30+) I usually get 1-2 that are dead and cannot be fixed for various reasons, so thats another thing to keep in mind. I just opened up a bunch of atari joysticks and all were non working and non fixable, and believe me I checked. The plastic joystick was just worn and there was nothing I could do to fix them, so into the trash they went.
Another thing to watch is to make sure the system comes with the correct power supply, you can check the voltage on the unit and on the power supply and make sure they match if its a generic power supply (don't forget to check the polarity also), a lot of times someone will shove another power supply into the console and obviously that is a very bad thing so you have to make sure that hasn't happened.
I must say though that the atari consoles are very hardy, the one that I just got works perfectly and its 30+ years old!

Yeah ive actually seen more ataris then any other system. And the games that i see most of are regular xbox games. Kinda strange because 1 house i went to the people had xbox games yet they said they nvr owned the system. And yeah from now on i got to think about how old something is. The dreamcast i bought needs a recharge and needed to be greased. And this system is no where near as old as the colecovision is. Atleast like what i said before i just sold the games for more money then i bought the lot for. Most of the games where like .50 cents but then Ladybug for the colecovision was like 13 dollars. Looked it up on ebay and it sells for like 8. So i made a good deal.

You people really shouldn't be so paranoid about broken games/systems. I buy this stuff for a living and I have bought some stuff in NASTY shape before, and my I think the amount of broken stuff I get is somewhere near 1% or less. That's not including NES systems that need new pin connectors though, because that's almost all of them.

I will usually get systems if the person doesn't know if they work that are cartridge based. Disc based I won't bother unless its a 360, wii or ps3 or $1-2.

If you simply do yard sales for a living, then yes, it's hot and cold.
BUT, with many different sources, you'd be AMAZED at the amount of money you can bring in. I'm making more than my friends who went to college for 4 years, earned a degree and scored a great job. And I'm not talking just SALES, I'm talking profit.

I go out Saturday yard saleing, and I go out one or two days out of the week, or whenever a clearance sale is going on. Also I check clearance racks in every store I go in.

It really depends on how something is made, this is really the first time I had to throw out a whole ton of stuff from a lot, although I paid nothing for the lot of atari stuff so I shouldn't complain. I am just saying now from what I have seen I wouldn't pay a high price for a lot of atari stuff because I am getting a lot of broken controllers and some broken games. I haven't had a problem with atari systems yet, so I can't comment on what might be wrong.
Oh and for those that don't know an easy way to hook up an atari to a newer cable ready TV is to go to radioshack and grab a phono plug to F connector, this way you don't have to deal with poor quality switchboxes. I just threw out about 6-7 switchboxes because they were all so bad and I didn't have the one other piece needed to use them.
You have to pretty much assume that every NES will need a new pin connector, although I haven't seen many NES's around. If you have never replaced a pin connector, its very very easy.
I don't know how to solder so some broken stuff I cannot fix myself but I can fix up pretty much anything else that doesn't need soldering. If you have more skills then don't even worry about buying broken stuff. I have also bought stuff that was in nasty shape, most everything cleans up and works though.
With disc based systems and worrying about broken stuff I am mainly referring to the high prices people charge for games sometimes, if your getting a box of stuff for 5-10$ including a console then go ahead and buy it but you might want to look out for those 50$ PS2 bundles that are supposedly working. I did buy a broken PS2 for 4$ at a sale with no cords or controllers then flipped it for a 27$ sale before shipping on ebay, I was told this system was working but I obviously knew that the person was lying and that I was buying a broken item.
As far as selection I am getting a lot of N64 stuff, it seems to be very common around here, that and genesis which are the usual suspects. SNES and NES are less common and anything sega other than the genesis is even more rare. I have personally never seen atari stuff in the wild, the atari stuff I have has come from another area where my friend used to yard sale for me, unfortunately he died. I see a lot of PS2 stuff and for the most part its overpriced considering you really have to watch the condition on this stuff. I am seeing a ton of Xbox360 games, probably due to people trying to sell off their games from RROD'd systems, however I have no use for Xbox360 games. Another observation is that prices are much lower this summer and more people have games to sell but I think thats mainly due to the fact that there was a store taking in old games here that closed and also the ebay store that was here closed. I am picking up genesis systems for 3$ and N64's for 1$ and that did not happen in previous years.
Asking for games is still not working for me and I ask at EVERY sale.

You have to pretty much assume that every NES will need a new pin connector, although I haven't seen many NES's around. If you have never replaced a pin connector, its very very easy.
Maybe I'm lucky but I've always been able to get NES systems working without having to replace the pin connector. I use one of those (dry) cleaning carts to clean the system and only have to worry about how I put the game in when I press the game down in the NES, top of the game as close to the edge is what's always worked best for me. I just seem to have more trouble with getting the game to start up right instead of a gray or colored screen if the pin connector is worn. I can get these systems to play fine once started up without blinking on me mid game.
I've only ever had one NES that didn't work at all and was told that they didn't think it worked and when I turned it on it didn't get any power, looked like it might have been thrown or dropped at some point as the door on the system was missing and some damage to the plastic near the missing door. Even the NES I got earlier this year that was so dirty that you got dirt on your hands when you touched it and was stored in a barn for who knows how long worked better then I was expecting it to.
Asking for games is still not working for me and I ask at EVERY sale.
I really don't think this really yields much more for most people. I can only think of two times (off the top of my head) this year that asking about video games brought out something (or a lot) that was good. When SnotKnocker was still posting finds it seemed as if he got some amazing finds asking about video games a couple of times a month but that seemed to go hand and hand with the greener pastures he was farming and not the same kind of results anyone yardsaling in average suburb america should expect asking about video games at yardsales.

How do you find things at the swap meet i went to the one in englishtown and it was terrible went to everyone and not one person had anything that wasnt old and car related
It really depends on the flea market (to some degree) and just plain out luck with what you find. It does seem as if most flea markets now a days in the US are about equal to or more expensive then ebay price wise for video games since each year more people seem to think of eBay (or just some place online) as being the stardard for getting an idea of how to price anything that isn't complete junk.
The flea market I frequent has been bone dry over the last month, the only video game I've bought over the last few trips was a cart only Sonic 2, asking and paid .50. When I see old video games at this flea market the price is always good (good as in reasonable or killer if it's something better/worth more money online) for old carts ($1-3 with usually say an N64 game being more likely to be $3 then an NES game). I think this flea market getting worse for finding video games lately is just partly the cold weather starting up and partly just less sellers from the gas prices etc so this year is really ending on a low note for me at the local flea and has me thinking I might not go again this year unless it's really nice (I usually go to this flea until the end of October maybe even a week or two into November).
I've also noticed that I don't see that many PS2 games for sale at the flea market when they should be all over the place and I think part of it is that if sellers see them at yardsales for say $5 IAP like I usually see them they won't even bother trying to buy them or lowballing since they really won't sell that well for $5 at this flea let alone more.

It also depends on your area and what the game market is like and what people want to buy. You can observe this by going to gamestop and seeing what people are buying or shopping at the flea constantly and seeing what people are asking for, it should be rather easy to pick up on what the majority are buying. An honest seller WILL do much better at the flea than a sheister with no prices on their games (at least for here). The market for older games is pretty much dead here, no one wants them, everyone wants the newer stuff (hence the store that sold older games closing). People aren't gonna pay 20$ for that Mario Party 1 cart for the N64 here. Every area will have its hardcore collectors though that are interested in a variety of stuff. Despite the rough economy people are only purchasing the newer stuff, this is a very urban area so that explains it somewhat. The money that people are spending on games is being put towards the latest releases.
Gas prices are a huge influence, I really think less people are yard sale-ing as I have spoken with many people at yard sales and business is definitely down despite the lower prices than last year in my area and wider selection of stuff. The product isn't moving either, people are selling clothes 5 for a dollar and its still not selling (decent stuff too!). I completely do not understand the clothes buying mentality in my area, they can't afford to drive to a yard sale to buy dirt cheap clothing yet they can drive to the salvation army to spend 5$ on a used, worn-out t-shirt.... Most people who have a sale here only sell half their stuff or less, the rest sits. A lot of people here simply cannot afford to have cars or they are getting rid of their cars and that has a huge effect on the number of people that come to your sale. When I had my yard sale more than 50% of the people who actually came, came on foot.
I am mainly in this to get as much video game stuff as I can and to sell off the extras or duplicates that I get.

in my area its a richer neighborhood that most people are still able to buy gas. Also gas is 3.06 here. And yeah the Englishtown Fleamarket is right near me has okay stuff the trackmeet is terrible.

Only down side, no benefits/healthcare, but the advantages well outweigh that. :)
You must live in a large area, I have tapped out most of the non garage sale places around here and resellers keep poping up right and left and the dumber resellers have alerted the pawnshop workers that games are worth $$ online. around here you almost have to own your own store to get any good stuff, and then you have to give an arm and a leg to get the games traded in.

Oh man, see, that's the problem. You can't stay in one particular area or you WILL tap it sooner or later.
Ok, for instance, when I yardsale I go through 5 or 6 towns, 2 of those being large towns, and once I'm done saleing I reverse it and hit all the pawn shops I missed. I start at 7 in the morning and wrap up around 3. Last week I put 150+ miles on my car just on yard sales alone.
Then sometimes on a whim I drive an hour and a half to Charlotte, NC because I can find a LOT of kickass deals there. Last big Toys R Us sale I went up there, hit about 4 stores, came back home, hit one close to me, then drove to Greenville, SC and hit that one too. Also hit all the Pawn shops/thrifts/game stores in between. Just a few pawn shops finds made up for the gas I spent.
You REALLY have to know what you're doing, and have the drive to do it, because if you stay within your little area and try to do it for a living you will accomplish nothing and wind up not making it worth your time. Branch out! :)

i have yard-saled in the same two parts of the city for 10+ years, and consistently find deals without going far. i think it really depends on where you live. since i also work, i get to collect almost everything i buy, but even when i was between jobs 5 years ago, i made more money just yard-saling around town and selling online than when i was working at my previous job!

I do believe it, its definitely a good substitute for a part time job at least. Considering that you will likely have to buy a uniform or clothes to start a PT job and now the fact that a lot of retail jobs pay by the Commdata system that just takes fees out of your paycheck (if you don't have a bank account) you are probably going to come out ahead if you do this versus working a minimum wage retail job. I also feel its a lot less work and there are many other advantages to this as well.
If you really want to make the bucks though you have to have a lot of money on hand to buy this stuff because if your going through 3 towns, all the yard sales, pawn shops and thrifts, 20$ isn't gonna get you anywhere. I am not sure about the area but I have been in the same area doing this since about 1999 and I consistently seem to find stuff, there's always someone with games stashed away.
Another thing is we have a lot of stupid people in this area, so you must be smart and have a lot of knowledge at least about the product you are buying, if you don't have that knowledge you will lose money on this since pawn shop owners and even people at yard sales to an extent will be able to see right through to a dumb reseller and then take advantage of them. Some people will buy anything that they are told is worth money on ebay in an attempt to resell it and sellers can see right through to this personality. An episode of The Hustlers comes to mind here. I cannot count how many times I have been told something is collectible and rare at a yard sale only to look it up on ebay when I got home and then I find out its worth a couple bucks at most. So you have to know when to walk away if the price is too high and you also have to not take chances on things that people only say are worth money. Just move on if the price is too high, there will be another sale to go to! Stick to buying the products that you know.
The only problem I see is that you can tap out certain houses, if you clean out all the games from a certain house and they have a yard sale in another week chances are you won't get anything from them since you have cleaned it out. Some people think its fun to have a yard sale every week so you have to know which houses you have gone to before and which ones you have cleaned out.

Okay so i was thinking to myself i wanna start a collection. If i buy nes games for 1 dollar i can still make a profit because play n trade buys them for about 2.50 each. or i can sell them on ebay for a little over 1 dollar. So is it good to buy games for 1 dollar is it bad. (talking about commons and stuff)

Well, if you're collecting them then $1 each isn't bad. They usually cost at least $3 each on eBay just for the shipping. If you can sell them for more then you paid for it that's always good. Of course, that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to get them cheaper.;)

1$ is a good price for a NES game, the flea here usually charges 5$ per game (sometimes you can get them on ebay cheaper!).
If you buy for a dollar and end up getting a lot of duplicates or games you don't want, you would be best off reselling them in a lot rather than individually for a dollar, if your selling things on ebay for a dollar then your not making anything after ebay + paypal fees.
If your buying a large lot of games at a sale then make sure you haggle, CIF or ask for a discount, you will most likely get one, this could bring your price to under a dollar a piece.

If it's a good NES game it's really only worth a buck if you want it for your collection IMO if it's something that can be had easily for $5 or less shipped on eBay it's not really worth the time and trouble to buy for a buck and turn around and try and sell for about $1 profit online. That 2.50 sounds really good to me for a trade in value even if it's only store credit.
I was talking to the one lady in town a few years back that I used to buy fire works from. She used to own a video store way back when and at one point probably had about 300 NES games at her store that she rented. A few years ago she was telling me how she got rid of a bulk of the games years back at yardsales pretty cheap over the years, I think she was selling games for a buck each. She decided to try out eBay a few years ago to get rid of some games she still had that her grand kids never played and lucked out selling Zelda with a manual and I think map for $40 (definately a fluke) and also had a copy of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! that went to about $30ish since it included the letter. She was telling me that she was only making about a quarter on all of her other games after fees and shipping. She made the mistake of shipping priority & getting nickeled and dime on the bay for things like extra pictures so she was making less on eBay then she would have at a yardsale although she wouldn't be making much if she was shipping 1st class ($2ish I'd think).
I'm sure it would take a lot of time and gas hunting games in the wild to make a living out of it but I don't think it would work in my area it's too space out. I'd have to hit up Wilkes-Barre or some place about 1 1/2 to 2 hours away to even spread my wings enough to get more stuff to try and resell and from what I've read in threads like the K-Mart clearance thread I don't think it would be worth the time and gas to make the Wilks-Barre/Scranton area 1 more CAG crowded :D (Or State College which is about 1 1/2 hours away from me).
I personally go out mostly hoping to find something for myself but end up with extra stuff which I can use to help pay for my video game hobby.
My yardsaling habbits are probably pretty close to allyourblood's. Over the last year I've only stuck to my little town as not to spend too much gas & time only going out of town a few times this year only if I see something in particular advertised that looks promising. I'm usually done yardsaling before 9 AM but I don't think I could stand being out for 4 plus hours personally although I used to spend more time a few years ago before gas went up and would hit up all sorts of surrounding areas (usually 3ish surounding areas a day) Besides spending less time hunting at yardsales I also spend MUCH less time putting together my yardsale route then I used to when scoping out all of my surrounding areas in the classifieds.

I was doing it between jobs and made a decent amount of money, I was driving about 1000 miles a month for games only, I brought in a nice ammount of money but there are so many resellers around here that you cant make a living doing it. I have gotten several good deals buying out other resellers items, when E-bay had thier first price hike i got about 100 NES/64 games for $25 and a broken GC with good controllers, then a month later bought 150 Nes games, and 4 systems for $75. Then this weekend i got a box of 40 NES/Genny/PS2/Xbox games for $5. Resellers closing up shop are my best suppliers now days, even one of the local video game stores gives me thier "overstock" and then writes it off their books as defective for tax reasons. I have gotten boxes of over a hundred classic to current games from them for free.

A lot of good yard sales here are in the hood.I am fine heading there when drunk at 4am but not 7am...damn it.This week there is a post that lists videogames as items they have and you get to fill a ziploc bag for 1 dollar a gocery bag for 2 and a trash bag for 5.....how many games you think I can fit in a trashbag.....guess I btter suck it up and go
SaraAB
10-07-2008, 01:50 PM
You can fit a lot of games into a trash bag, trust me. Make sure you use a plastic bag and not a paper bag because plastic bags stretch so you can fit more in them. If its just a plastic bag then bring your own, find the biggest one you have in the house (lol) and bring it. If your doing trash bags bring extra because you will need to double or triple it in order for it to hold all the games or it will break.
If your going to a bag sale for clothing, not that anyone here is your best bet is to roll the clothes up because you can stuff more in the bag that way.
Video game stores don't fly here, and it seems the owners are too lazy to actually test, list and sell all their excess inventory on ebay and they just want quick cash for their stuff. So I can see how someone would make out on this. I have been to a few sales that were former store owners and the stuff was pretty cheap.

Sorry for the mild derail but I have a quick question about flipping things on ebay. Lately I've been selling quite a few things on there, but I can't figure out how to transfer the funds to my checking account. When I try it asks for my routing number etc. which I don't have because I don't actually have checks (I only withdraw cash from ATMs). Is there any way to transfer the funds to my account without a routing number?
Edit: I figured it out! Sorry about that.

Ok I went to an estate sale today that advertised Nintendo and it was the most disgusting house I have ever been in my life, you know those houses on TV that are being condemned well this was in the same ball park as that. There were no lights on or nothing and the whole house was filled with the dust that was leftover from painting and sanding, and this dust was all over the merchandise. There were tons of holes in the floor and I don't even want to talk about the rest of it, it was that bad. I was going through piles of cds that were covered in the dust. Since the merchandise was covered in sanded dust I was only able to salvage a loose mario kart N64 and a couple other things for a total of 1$ at least the price was cheap and the guy living there was nice but how someone could live in all that filth is beyond me.
Ok the next house I went to was good as well, and I bought Lumines for the PSP and Need for Speed Most wanted for the PSP, and a couple Gamecube games for 11$ total. This house promised to have more games tomorrow and since its basically down the street from me I will be heading back in the morning. Since I am so motivated to collect games I will probably fly out of bed for this heh. Hopefully I will come up with something good. The prices were very reasonable. I don't think this person will overcharge since she is just selling all the games that her kid beats.
Next house tried to charge my mom 5$ for a used, worn out sweater so we left immediately without buying anything, nothing good but prices that were well above even ebay's including pairs of used shoes for 10$, not a house I want to do business with.
The last couple houses I picked up a Plug N Play game for 2$, some perler beads for 1.50 and a Super Mario Galaxy premier edition factory sealed guide for 1$, that was definitely a good deal.

I find quite a few guides however usually used ones. Another thing is they are usually lumped in with the books so you need to look through those, however you also pay the same price as a book costs which is like 25 cents or 50 cents here or maybe a dollar. I have walked out of houses with loads of guides this season for 25 cents a piece. Its also great for finding older guides for older systems.
The house I bought the guide at is a strange one, every time I go there there is a lot of books, gaming and anime magazines, it looks like the guy at the house garbage picks or something, or gets retail store overstock (or maybe penny guides, but there really aren't enough to justify that). I have been to this sale before. I don't know where he gets the books from. There were also several brand new and sealed Mass effect guides but I don't need those since I don't have the system. I think he charges like a buck a piece for magazines too so I don't buy those, just the guides.
I am probably going to hold onto my Mario Galaxy guide in sealed condition since I don't really care for the game.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Guide (Brady Games) - .50
Got up late and got out the door just after 9. Found this at the last sale I went to that started at 9, didn't have a price brought it up and paid the .50 they were asking. The lady also mentioned having the game to which the other lady mentioned that it was sold.
I waited for a guy talking to the sellers at this sale to leave before asking about video games. He was asking about doing a better rate if he bought 30-50 DVDs then actually admitted to buying baby stuff at yardsales just to sell at the flea market. He was as polite as could be about how he went doing this but it was still rather odd mentioning to people how much he typically paid for certain things that he would just want to turn around and sell for a small profit. The sellers said it was early and that they weren't ready to cut any better deals but it sounded as they were going to take the guy up on his offer to come back later and do a better deal on some stuff if they were still sitting on it at the end of the day. I definately didn't want to ask about "old games" in front of this guy as he could have started doing the same thing at every sale after getting the idea from me.
The 2nd sale I went to today advertised PS2 games but when I got to it they only had a few PC games and when I asked they mentioned that somebody just bought $30 worth of games cleaning them out of the PS2 stuff, this being 5 minutes before I got to the sale. Probably somebody that doesn't really know any better and it was probably at best a lot of PS2 games in which you'd be making $40 if all sold together in one lot on eBay but I still can't help but wonder if just maybe it was much better then the average lot of PS2 games you'd see at a yardsale. I actually saw all of the $1 PS2 games I passed on last week on eBay all together being sold in one auction a few days later lol

I am also completely stoked that I got a hello kitty plush from 1983 from the thrift and its the same one I had as a kid (its a huge plush), who would have ever though I would have found that!
Sadly the 3$ a bag thrift is closing next week so its gonna be a free for all and take as much as you can.
Another thing I would like to say is CIF WORKS! 99% of the time my offer has been taken (its extremely rare for my offer not to be taken), now keep in mind I keep it reasonable, I am not asking for 1$ on a 50$ item. However it does save me at least a few bucks every week.

The intec screen looked really bulky, and you would need a cable that connects the screen to the console, as the one I was looking at only had the power adapter. You would need a cable with 2 psx AV ends since the screen only had that and an S-video port, you can't just plug the PSX AV cables into it like you can for a TV. If something is missing an odd cable then its not even worth buying imo unless it was like a dollar or you know you have that in the house somewhere. The actual screen also looked very small and wouldn't be good for playing the text-heavy RPG's that I am into.

Finally am gettign a chance to put up some of what I got over the past couple weeks...
While I was at work, I sent my wife to this yard sale to investigate. While there were some good games atthe sale, the person running it would only sell them with the system ad ridiculous prices. However, she did find a bunch of game informers, Parasite Eve 2
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2918602894/
No big story here. I pulled up to the sale and noticed a showbox full of SNES games. I also noticed that there they were priced $1 each. I CIF'd $5 and she took it. Out of it I got:
DKC 1
DKC 2
Addams Family
Mario Paint
Yoshi's Island
StarFox
Frogger
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Fighting Edition
Ms. Pac-Man
Once again, Not a bad haul.Guide, and Dark Age of Camelot guide. It was $3 for all of it.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2917755385/
No major story. I went to this sale and saw a super nintendo mini on the table. the asking price was $1 so I bought it.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2917756831/
This was the last sale I was going to today. I pulled up and immediatly spotted an N64. Upon closed inspection, there were also boxed N64 games with it as well. I gathered those up and then saw a Guitar Hero guitar. I picked it up and it was for PS2. I asked abotu the game and he said he had it but that it was scratched up. I still was interested in it and he will bring it to me next weekend. So recapping:
Starfox 64 (Complete)
Banjo Kazooie (Complete)
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Complete)
Mario Kart 64 (Complete)
Super Mario 64 (Complete)
PS2 guitar
The total price for all of this...$7
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2917758331/
I went to this sale on my lunch break and picked up a pretty cool item. I got a Lara Croft in Wet Suit Action Figure still in the box. I gave $5 for it but it is pretty sweet.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2917759797/
I came across this sale and immediatly headed towards a table of electronics. I scoured the table and uncovered a set of Bose Speakers. I picked it up, looked at it a bit and then asked what the price was. $3. I immediatly pulled the cash out and paid for it. This is a 1990 Bose Acoustimass 3 System. Worth $3.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2929228321/
I checked the sale out and didn't come out with much as most of hte games were sports titles... I did get the following though:
Sega Saturn Choice Cuts
Xbox Demo Disc 58
Xbox Demo Disc 67
Xbox Demo Disc 68
Secret Codes for Playstation Vol. 3
1982 Admiral Ackbar Action Figure
I paid $0.50 for all this together. I am going to go back to the house and see if they had any games left as well.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2933735635/
I pulled up to check this sale out after I found that this was supposed to have some Atari 2600 games. He definitely had some as well. I ended up picking up:
Dragonfire
Megamania
Starmaster
Enduro
Outlaw
Asteroids
Defender
Oink!
Space War
Frogger
River Raid
SwordQuest Fireworld
Space Shuttle
I ended up CIFing him $3 for all of the titles. He originally wanted $0.50 each game.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2933737695/
This was the first sale I was able to hit. I pulled up and walked up as they had advertised Playstation and Game Boy games. While they had a lot, the selection was not real big. I did however pick up:
Lego Stunt Rally (GBC)
Land Before Time (GBC)
Blaster Master Blasting Again (PS)
Dino Crisis 2 (PS)
She wanted $10 for all of it but I CIF'd her $5 instead and she took it.

All in all, not a bad couple past weekends...

I did some garage sales and some thrift stores and i didnt really get anything other then Mario's Tennis for the virtual boy for 2.5 dollars. I saw some games for gameboy and some game gear games.
is their a guide for the price to get games at.
I was thinking is 3 dollars a good price for a gameboy game.
Is 3 dollars good for a game gear game
Is 2 dollars good for a snes game that isnt sports related.
Anyone have a guide that relates to this?

In the way of a guide, not really that I am aware of but I can give you what rules I usually go by.
I usually will not spend more than the following unless it is worth the asking price like Super Mario RPG or Castlevania: SOTN.
In the $1-2 range I would list the following systems:
NES, N64, GB, GBC, Gen, GG
In the $1-3 range I would go for:
SNES, GBA, Gamecube
In the $1-5 range:
PS2, Xbox, DS, PSP
Usually 360 and PS3 items I would not pay more than $10 AT MOST.
Hope that kinda gets you an idea of what to ask for. Also depending on where you live, those priced can fluctuate a little bit.

That seems accurate except for I would switch gamecube and xbox, since gc games seem to be worth a lot lately and and xbox games are at almost every sale I go to and worth almost nothing.
This price is not for sports games, unless they're the current year. I only buy old ones if they're a quarter or less and not very scratched. Same with demos unless they're a rare one like the gc demo discs that retailers get.
Mirpkered
10-13-2008, 10:29 PM
That is a good point about sports games. However, when you brought up demos, always check demo discs (mostly 360 discs) for content that is free.
Example: The Xbox Demo 67 has 2 free quests for Oblivion on it that are usually around $5 each. Also there are a couple others that have maps for COD and Also some free Rock Band tracks as well. I picked up some demo discs the other day, as seen in my most recent post, and I got 3 demos discs and some other misc for $0.50.

Yeah, switch Gamecube and Xbox, obviously if the title is boxed I will pay more, and I don't mind paying a dollar or 2 more for a better title (like a Mario N64 game). I see 10$ cube games all the time here.
The turnover on better titles is so high on ebay that I could buy them all day long for 3$ and still make money, then when I get home I regret buying more if there were more at the sale.
Usually the older games like NES and Genesis run 10 cents to 1$ here, so 50 cents is an acceptable price.

Well it's good to see everybody finding those good deals. I've been out of the YS loop since mid July . My company down sized and gave me a promotion plus another 10 grand. But that came with a price of 70 hour work weeks including Saturdays. Recently they hired some people and and things are back to normal as of the last 2 weeks. I hit about 80 sales over the last two weeks and true to form had several decent finds. I'll get picks and stories up during the week.
It was really weird, like the first month without yardsaling I was really fiending for a YS fix but just did'nt have the time. After the first month the extra cash in my check each week kinda curbed my desire to YS. Basically the money I made flipping YS finds for extra cash was more than equaled with the pay raise. But then I get back out there again and that fiendish urge is back, unfortunately my season is just about over due to winter approaching. Any body else ever get that "Ill do anything to yard sale urge? Sometimes I really feel like a cheap ass yard sale junkie.

I completely agree, going yard saling also means less stuff that I have to buy at retail meaning I feed the big box stores less which is a good thing. My mom built a whole wardrobe just off yard sale clothes and its better stuff than what most people in my city wear. The price difference in the items at yard sales vs going shopping makes it totally worth it, especially since we stay local. I also prefer the product selection at yard sales, there is a lot of unique stuff vs the cookie cutter items in retail stores.

So now we know it isn't really the CIF that gets the job done, they are afraid you are going to break them in half if they don't accept your offer. They are like "Um . . . yeah . . . sure . . . we'll take $5 for this new PS3, just don't hurt us."
Must have picked up the nickname after someone refused a CIF and you took it out on them.

We find lots of brand-name womens and childrens clothes (for the cousins). Sometimes we find clothes with the tags still on them. For clothes you have to hit on the right house with the sizes and styles you need. You can find mens clothes too however thats a bit more rare than finding womens and kids, almost EVERY yard sale here has womens and childrens clothing. I don't know why anyone would buy baby clothes at a store, I see piles and piles of them at yard sales for 25 cents a piece, and a lot still have the tags! Some women tend to discard clothing after one wearing, yes myself and my mother do it too but at least we are only discarding something that we bought at another yard sale, besides it gets donated anyways so someone else can use it.

Second sale was just out of town and I didn't see anything of interest but asked about old Nintendo games to which the lady mentioned having an old GameBoy with 7 games that she wasen't sure about bringing out and mentioned that she was going to sell on eBay and figured she'd get $25ish for at least, I politely said that it might not even be worth that (being honest with her) picturing most of these seven games being fairly common and not in demand. She brought it out and showed it to me and I offered $20 for it mentioning that it would save her the trouble of selling it online which she was a good sport about even if it was abit under what she was hoping to get and was nice about.
Obviously this wasen't a killer yardsale price but when I saw the manuals (mostly with Final Fantasy Adventure & the map) and that every game was good it was worth paying up a bit more to me as long has it was still a good price. Afterwards I was thinking I might have been able to get her to begrudgingly take $15 but it didn't seem worth the risk/hassle to me when I was thinking it over quickly at the sale. I actually over heard (while I was looking at the GameBoy stuff) somebody offer $25 for a chair to one of the other ladies running this sale to which she politely declined and mentioned that she wanted to get $40 at least for it (I didn't take notice to how nice the chair was and what the asking price was on it). I sensed that if I tried opening with $5 or $10 for this that it would have been either flat out shot down (if offended) or countered with a price more in the range of what I paid.
Raining pretty good out this morning but I went out just after 10 anyways to the two yardsales nearby today since yardsale season is practically done and I won't be seeing many more sales till next spring. First sale had some typical stuff Steering Wheel Controller & a GBC system pouch which I've seen the exact same one of before at yardsales, funny thing is it always seems as if I just see the pouch by itself when I see one and not wth a system and a few games in it lol They also had a Cabela's Hunting game for the 360 marked at way too much ($20), seemed like a case of people not really knowing how current gen (or even last gen) games will usually depreciate compared to what it originally retails for new. When I asked about games they mentioned selling off some older Nintendo stuff last year.

Today I got a factory sealed Dual Shock 2 controller for $2.00, and an old Japanese 10 speed bicycle that I have never heard of(Kabuki CI Japan) for $5.00.
The bike is pretty fast. I rode it 3 miles back to my house with no problems, and almost beat my roommates car home.

After reading about half of this thread I was inspired to go yard saling today, even though it's not exactly the time of year for that in the Seattle area...no rain today, though. I went out several weekends this summer but didn't get a whole lot. Went to six sales today.
First sale advertised that they had hundreds of DVDs, and they had a ton of 'em, but zero games. They wanted $4 each, $8 for box sets. Paid $10 for Superbad and a SEALED Simpsons Season 4 (one of the great seasons), didn't try to lowball them too much as I really wanted them and was willing to pay that much for the Simpsons set alone.
Went to another one that didn't have games out but I asked and the guy went inside for a while, coming out only with the Medal of Honor Collection set for PS2, with Frontline and Rising Sun still sealed. He wanted $5 but I got it for $3...I already have Frontline and Rising Sun for XBox so I think I'll get rid of those since I like the looks of this whole set together and I'd been wanting European Assault. The guy couldn't find a PS1 with 15 games he'd sell for $20 so I left my number in case any of the games were halfway decent and complete.
This other sale had a beat up GBA SP (scratchless screen, though) with charger, carrying case, Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets, Eragon, Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire, a game with the whole sticker torn off, some other crappy one I forget, and a Cartoon Network video. They wouldn't budge from $20 but let me have the Pokemon Pinball game for $1. Sells for $5-10 on eBay so that's not bad, I'll probably play it for a little while then sell/trade it.
Of course the sale that actually advertised XBox games had like 10 of the cheapest games possible for $4 each, which I had guessed would happen. They weren't even worth a buck a piece to me so I didn't bother lowballing.
That's probably it for the year here, I doubt anybody is going to attempt to have a yard sale between November and February.

PlayStation bootlegs. These will go right in the trash.
http://i35.tinypic.com/rsrcxt.jpg
Those don't look like bootlegs to me. They look like import versions on SOME of the games and the Silent Hill and Resident Evil Survivor look like genuine Region 1 games. Unless they're on plain silver CD-R/CD-RW's with the name scrawled on them, I would keep them. Are they complete? If so, PM me as I may make you an offer if they're on actual PS1 discs(black bottom).
You can tell if a game is an import from another region if the little whilte block under the Playstation logo says anything other that NTSC/UC in it. If it says PAL, it's from Europe and that region.
PlayStation demos and magazine discs
http://i38.tinypic.com/nxnxqq.jpg
And the price for all this.. FREE!
These demos seem like imports, much like the other games above. What gets me is that you got ALL of this for FREE?!?!?!? Damn. If I could find a yard sale with stuff like this for free, I'd go yard saling more often than I do.

The PlayStation games were just cdrs with printed covers, so I threw them out, and as for the demos and magazine discs, they're mostly from DK and UK magazines, which will make them imports for US people but boring non-exotic discs for me :) That's also why I got all of this for free. There's nothing special about it for Danish people so I offered the guy to take it off his hands so he didn't have to go through the hassle of carrying it to the dumpsters after not being able to sell any of it :D
Also, today I found some more stuff. Mostly comic books, but there were also these VHS tapes. The bottom row is probably the only one interesting here - mainly the Danish-dubbed Zelda tape. I think it's pretty neat. It'll sit nicely with the dubbed Captain N and Super Mario Bros. 3 tapes.

I think I have like 50 or more N64 games because of yard sales, they are so common over here, plus I have like 20 for selling on ebay this holiday season.
Anyways the season is pretty much over here so don't expect to hear a lot from me. Today I hit one sale and bought a champion jacket for 2$.

Went to an indoor bag sale today, not too many people showed up (I guess everyone was at wal-mart lol) so we got the pick of the room and brought home 2 pairs of expensive nike sports pants, never worn, some more clothes for mom, a load of craft supplies and a giant Pikachu pillow that looked great after washing but sadly no video games. You got to take whatever you wanted at the end for free and even so it was only 2$ a bag, well worth it.

Picked up MarioKart 64, Super Mario 64, MarioParty , MarioParty 3, MarioGolf for $5
A 4GB Mini w/ adapter - $1
1GB SD - $1
21 Star Wars Ep 1 Figures - $10
4 Ball Jars (for Wife) - $3
Not bad for an hours drive home
I did enquire at one sale about two broken (no lids) NES w/ no accessories. He wanted $5 a piece, but these were pretty beat up. If he'd gone lower I may have bit for a little fun playing with the consoles parts, but had already snagged the memory cards from him for so cheap, I just took my stuff and left.

Question about the Office program. It only came with one disc, but the case has room for 3 discs. It has the number 3 on the spindle, with room to spare for more discs. Is this a multidisc program? If not, this flips for quite a bit on Ebay! If it is a multidisc program, then I probably got what I paid for.

Could anyone tell me about the coleco stuff. I really don't know anything about it.
Its surprising that someone would keep games sealed for 30 years.

Either that or he needed money fast or is moving. He could be giving up though because if he was running around buying random games for the prices on the tag he likely overpaid for many things and perhaps he realized this wasn't such a good idea after all. As always you must have some knowledge of prices when yard-sailing, you can't just go buying stuff willy-nilly or else your bound to get ripped off a time or 2 and probably a lot more than that. It takes a while to accumulate this stuff at least over here, you can't build a whole collection in just one summer so if he got rid of it all its likely that he is giving up and doesn't want to buy it back again. Lets hope he is giving up for your sake.

I dont think he was paying to much, I heard from sale runners that he would throw all the games in a box and throw the owner a bill or two and run, basicly making them think he had paid the right ammount, and then they would see that he left them about 10% of what they had the items marked at. it coudl be that he got in trouble for doing that.

$17.50 (which ended up actually being $19.25 with 10% buyer's premium)
They had another lot of 8 games that I lost (to a silent bid, probably the same person I had to beat for the games I got!) with my max bid being about $25 for the lot I didn't win, it had (all probably complete in box but Super Punch Out was the only one I actually checked) Super Punch Out, Both Ken Griffey games, NBA Jam, NBA Jam T.E., 2 EA Football games & some Nascar game for the N64. I probably should have tried bidding it up 10 more dollars but I only wanted to bid about what I was thinking Super Punch Out would go for on eBay (I was taking an educated guess at $25) and didn't need it has I have a complete copy I bought on clearance years ago, I also only had about $90-100 on me so I couldn't have gone much more then $10 more then I did. I wouldn't mind grabbing the NBA Jam & Ken Griffey games in the wild complete for about 2ish each if I saw them but missing them here wasen't that big of a deal like getting the lot I won was. They also had 2 PS1s each in the box (one being audiophile type with the red, white & yellow on the back of the sytem), a Genesis 1, a Genesis 2 & a lot of Genesis game (all sports crap not even a Sonic game!) with some factory sealed fishing game for the Game Boy in with the Genesis games. No Playstation games to go with the systems.
Not a yardsale find but I'm posting it here since we don't have an auction thread. I figured the yardsale thread could use some more posts at this slow time of the year and I didn't think this would be worth it own thread since it wasen't an insanely crazy find. That's the first Griffey game with the bad glare in the top center. The college football game & N64 Nascar are the only games missing manuals.
I saw that the auction place I got some SNES stuff back in September had some video game stuff listed in the paper again and I was having deja vu so I was fully expecting to see the same stuff I saw from September which I was right about, the only video game stuff that wasen't back on the auction block again was the stuff I got from them in September lol I was only interested in this and they had the GameBoy fishing game in with them this time instead of with the Genesis stuff.
This was more of a price I would expect games like these to go for at an auction around here, about $15 give or take a few dollars. Makes me think even more so that something fishy was going on last auction. I was only around for about 15 minutes but I did notice some junk go cheap ($1-4) as I would normally expect at an auction and not just about every pile of old used toys or junk going for $25-30 or just what seems to be entirely too much.

I didn't get to go yard saling but I went to the swap meet instead.
Here's the stuff I got. Pretty good, eh?
Sonic Adventure 2 The Trial (disc only)
Sonic Shuffle NFRS (disc only)
$2
Starting price was $2 each with a few other dc games I already have. Offered 2 for both and she took it.
I'm assuming the trial game is just a demo, but is it rare or anything? I played the first stage and it seems the same as the normal game except voices are in japanese and there's no options menu.
DDR Supernova 2 (disc only)
$2
Starting price was $3, I offered 2 and it was taken.
The first cd or game I have ever gotten at the swap meet with no scratches. ^_^
Zelda: A Link To The Past (cart only)
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (cart only)
$9
Marked 5 each with a bunch of other crappy snes games. He wouldn't budge lower than $9, but I'm happy with the price nevertheless.
Nintendogs Dalmation and Friends (cart only)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (cart only)
$5
In a pile with a bunch of random electronic junk and a few other crappy video games. I took the two out and he said 7 for both. I offered 4 and he said 5, which I took.
This is the first time I've ever seen a 3DO in the wild. The guy wanted $40 and it had no cords or games, so I didn't buy it.

This isn't a yardsale find, but I scored a Toshiba HD-DVD HD-A30 player for $15 about a week ago. I really didn't need it, but I wanted to get one thing from my first auction. I'm not sure if I have the patience for them though. I did wait 4 hours for them to auction the player, but I can be patient to a fault when I want something. If I do go to another auction, it'll be one at a storage unit place. That could be a little more interesting, than the place I went to.
I just wish we had more flea markets or swap meets around here. During winter, I'm stuck a salvation army store and a bunch of goodwill stores that never have anything.

Word to my mother...
...who tipped me off on a craigslist deal. She found a guy at a yard sale selling PS2 games for $5 each and got his email address. I asked him what games he has for sale and he sends me back a list of 80 titles. I wound up picking out 20 of them and asked for a volume discount. :) Which I actually got - snagged 20 titles for $80, or four bucks apiece...
Here's what I ended up taking:
Shadow of Rome
Ratchet and Clank Going Commando
Ratchet and Clank Deadlocked
Ratchet and Clank up your Arsenal
Ratchet and Clank
Castlevania Lament of Innocence
Devil May Cry 2
Devil May Cry 3
Lord of the Rings The Two Towers
Lord of the Rings Return of the King
Area-51
Time Splitters 2
Gladius
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance
Prince of Persia The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia Warrior Within
Prince of Persia The Two Thrones

Grand Turismo 3
Midnight Club 3

I participated in the one last year but i didnt get around to post this year. i started to make a list for myself and then kinda stopped logging my finds.
For this year my haul was low. I did find tons of stuff but most of it was overpriced and i took a pass.
Intellivision with 5 games for 50 bucks. atari 2600 with donkey kong for 40. sega cd with 3 shitty shitty games for 35. I would laugh at these people and they thought they had top shit. ah well. stupid people.
my best finds over the summer were snes games: chrono trigger, FF2, BoF1. atleast they made me happy to play again. :bouncy:
also recieved three HUGE boxes of TI-99 stuff from my aunt a few months back. with expansion boxes and cass decks for games. Tunnels of Doom is fun to play for thoses who havent.
no pictures. sorry guys. I figured i would still give a post because i still enjoy reading peoples finds as well. I'll be sure to post ever weekend find for next year.

Yard sales are pretty much non-existan here in PA right now.
Still, I had a decent year this year (not as good as last year, though).
Sharp VCR for $4. It laid around my room for months, until I sent it up to my gram's as hers bit the dust and my nephews who she's guardians of, still watch a lot of VHS tapes. I guess it's acting up now, but my dad might be able to clean it.
Super Monaco GT and Triple Score for the Genesis for .50 each.
A box with a second edition Genesis, two controllers, cords, and five games (Sonic 2, 3 and Knuckles as well as The Ren & Stimpy Show and Whac-A-Critter) for $5. I had Sonic 2 and mainly just wanted Sonic 3 and Knuckles. I gave the Genesis to my bro for free as he had bought one at a Goodwill that he didn't have the power cord to.
Donkey Kong Country for $1.
Two Gameboy Advanced games for .50 each (ATV and some Dragon Ball Z game... I traded the DBZ game to Gamestop for $1.50 worth of credit.)
Wiz & Liz for the Genesis for .50 (no case)
A four port USB hub combined with a surge protector in one that gives you master power for $1. I gave it to my bro a few weeks ago as I never bothered using it.
Spawn the Movie on DVD for $1
I also got a bunch of other small stuff out front of a house in free bins including a metal detector that doesn't work (it's cheap, but I got a relative who works on them, so I'm gonna get one of them to look at it), a cool Smokey the Bear letter opener, an old school Arrow brand stapler and a keychain with a built in thermostat and chill factor charts on the back (the equivalent temperature of exposed flesh from wind speed and air temperatures combined).
A Pontiac CD holder for a dime (it was priced a quarter, but I only had a dime and a dollar, she was nice and took the dime). I gave it to my friend who has a badass mid 90's Trans Am and an old school Le Mans. He thanked me for finally getting him a useful gift.
And my favorite find this year... an MC Hammer "HAMMER TIME" 6" ruler that's bright orange. It was in a ten cent bin, but when I approached the woman, she said I could have it for free. :)

How do you get so lucky with your purchases? Got any tips for bargain hunting or looking for garage sales?

Patience, Persistence and good timing.
It also helps to be a bit ballsy when haggling.

Hi all I am new here but would love to tell you my recent find. I didn't find at yard sale but at a Salvation Army type place. I asked if they had any game systems and they showed me a sega genesis game still factory sealed. They had it marked $12 and I thought no way I am out of here. It was Earthworm Jim 2 and in VERY NICE SHAPE. So I left looked up on ebay and found that just the cart had listings at 12+ so I jumped in the car and went and snagged the game.
It is like I said still factory sealed. I hope this was a Good find. I will keep this copy as it is now one of my center peaces along side my factory sealed NES Power Pad (Free at garage sale last year).
I have 50+ NES games (carts no doubles), 10 PS2 (complete), 15 PS1 (complete), 8 Intellivision (complete), 2 nes (complete), 8 genesis (complete not including new one), 10 SNES (carts only), 6 N64 (carts only), 2 2600 (carts only), 6 7800 (carts only), and 30 xbox (cd only just picked up at garage sale w/system $10)
I have the following systems. 4 NES, 1 SNES, 4 N64, 2 Genesis ver 1, 1 Genesis ver 2, 1 xbox, 1 ps2 slim, 4 ps1 ver 2, 1 7800, 1 Inttelivision (with box and papers like NEW box has some damage), 2 game boy colors (oh yea and 1 game boy game),
I have the following accessories (beyond regular controllers and memory) Power Pad, Nes advantage, supper game boy, bunches of nes guns gray and orange.
Sorry about spelling all. Do you feel the Earthworm Jim 2 was a good deal? also is this a good start for my collection? I am getting back into it most I got last year around this month through garage sales.
I will have to go through and list my games someday
EDIT: Oh yea I also picked up a Xbox 360 wirless controller, Xbox controller, Some fan box for xbox 360, 2K Sports All Pro Football 2k8 xbox 360 game w/case, Two Worlds Xbox 360 CD only, and 2K6 Xbox CD only. All for $5.00
EDIT 2: Just got back from todays sales... N64 Diddy Kong Racing $1.00, N64 Topgear Hyper-Bike $1.00 both are carts only in OK condition with Very good lables. A SNES Controller $2.00 I was going to pass but need an extra one so I bit, and the last item I passed on was a Sega Satern for $20.00 with 2 controller and Steering wheel but I left my number and said I would take for $15.00 however I will drop to $10 if they wont let me test it out.
