The good thing about the "big" clearance last year was that my BB did not allow people to grab more than one copy of a game. Like these college kids came in and grabbed like 5 copies of the $1.99 Full Auto (360) game and were immediately told by an employee "only one copy per group."

That pissed those kids off, probably wanted to sell them on eBay for beer money.

But...if they're permanent clearance markdowns then the store isn't trying to make money off them. Just unload SKUs that aren't selling before inventory is counted. From a $ perspective, they don't care who buys them or how many. It's not like an advertised temporary sale.

True, but they are using those as a way to get people into the store, and hopefully buy other stuff while you're there. If you're going *just* to hoard, you take away what they had as an incentive for more customers, and you've just ripped everyone else off of being able to enjoy the deal.

In short, the special prices are for their customers, not their competition.

Now to be realistic and to try and post something worthwhile, how about games that may be drastically cut. I am sure they won't be as low as last year but there are many 360, wii, and ps3 games that could be $10.
My thoughts are that on the ps3 all old sports games, NBA Homecourt, motorstorm, and any others that were release day titles with the exception of resistance. 3-4 months ago a best buy in my area had some of these and other games 50% off. So it is not unrealistic to see them at $9.99. I haven't been keeping up eith the other systems as I have sold those but maybe some others could post some legitimate possibilities. Not some of the posts about 5 resistance and crazy stuff like that.

Ahh i just re-read OP. My mistake. This will probably be crap like last year which is kinda good. I'm predicting stuff like Oblivion for 360 which has already been clearanced and hasn't been in stock for months since they got the new version of the game.

I don't consider that clearance: based on this thread, I expect these clearance prices will be <$10. And the non-GOTY version is listed as in stock at nearly all my local stores. If they marked the original Oblivion 360 down to say, $4.99 or even $9.99, I wouldn't consider that crap at all.

Hopefully we can get a hold of an official list tommorrow rather than just listed finds.

There was also a major price change today of over 100 SKUs, I do not think it was the one slated for the 8th, but this one was still over 100 SKUs. The one today was lots of kinda new games going down from $10-20.

I just find it strange they would hit us with two different 100+ price changes in games 2 days in a row.......

Hey, I'm still waiting for a price drop EA Sports local favourites: "Luke Ravenstahl UPMC invitational golf tour", and more recently, on "MX vs. Homeland Security funded SUV untamed" which sports an authentic course leading to the Toby Keith concert in Heinz Field.

I spent the last 6 years living in West Leb (got my phd from Dartmouth) and I can tell you that, while having a very limited inventory, there are nearly zero hoarders there.

Basically, it means the deals are very hit or miss, but you don't have to be there at store opening to find them.

Actually, there would be at least 30 separate SKU's in that list even though it's less than 10 different games.

Each system version has a different SKU. Don't get your hopes up.

Gotcha. I actually did a search and found 'em, too. An average one on 9/12/05, a small one on 3/27/06, and the big one on 2/26/07.

i say there will be a big one Late this year. Expect a price drop on the Ps3. wii and xbox 360 and more games. Meaning they will want to clear out their PS2 and older games.

Hell the one here already cleared out their GBA and gamecube games

i found a lot of stuff on the 9/2005 one. didnt get a single thing on the 2006 and found around 25 games on 2007, what all but 2 games i traded off on goozex ....

i work at best buy and when i left today at 6pm there was no list posted, just the news item saying there would be 100 SKUs dropping tomorrow, 1/8. the price drops that someone posted earlier are not the SKUs that will be dropping tomorrow they are just the typical weekly monday price drops on video games. So as far as i know there is still no list as of 6pm eastern time.

Retail stores will require the place you price match to have the product in stock regardless if its clearance or not. And most of the games when you go in will most likely not be tagged because the employees there will not have time to work on those since tuesdays are new release days and they will be working on ad set in the morning instead of changing the prices on the game, so youll just be going in blind basically.

If they are immediately effective are they all gonna be tagged and labeled at store opening.
I don't want to have to ask for price checks on every game that interests me.

Sucks for me tho because I'm in San Diego where hoarders are a o'plenty.At the actual clearance last year the games were NOT marked at opening. I got there about 30 minutes after opening and there some hoarders with carts. I didn't see anything on my list marked cheap. Then an employee came around with a list and started marking games that were in stock. He yelled at his buddy, "Hey, dude, The Godfather is 2 bucks." I was right next to him and nabbed one and the hoarders started grabbing everything. I got a decent haul and a great haul from all stores combined. Just wish I had picked up King Kong when I first came in cause it got grabbed once we realized that they were actually having a clearance. If they do this I'll be looking for older collectors editions as these usually get the axe first like Oblivion last year and several at TRU.

I was at a store-to-be-unnamed and noticed they had a TON of black storage buckets and the blue "cheap movie" bins floating around the store today. Lots of the yellow (30%) and red (50%) tags, mostly on Xbox and PS2 games. Powerdrome and From Russia With Love stick out in my mind for the Xbox (But that's the level of game-- kinda B-list titles that you may or may not have wanted). Although they did have a bin towards the front (right by the checkout line, I think someone was mumbling under their breath thinking I was cutting until I didn't move when someone called next) with Ant Bully for the Wii and a bazillion X360 Table Tennis, along with some 2006-era Xbox 360 sport games. I got Snoopy & The Red Baron for PS2 for $9.99 (19.99 - 50%). I looked through most everything and didn't see anything too exciting, although I bought Snoopy mostly hoping for a further drop tomorrow. Since the cashier had to manually override I'm thinking "The list" is still to be announced.

I'm not being specific as I have no idea if this has anything to do with the clearance, or possibly just this store clearing out specific stuff (which IIRC the red/yellow dots are store specific), and don't want to get anyone's hopes up. For all I know they were packing them to ship back tonight. I wonder if this is a store-by-store thing and they were getting ready for something big, or if this was a total fluke?

This store also has most of the 360, Wii, and PS3 games locked up in cages so I wonder what they'll do for that, or if maybe that was what was in the other storage boxes? (I saw no PS3 games out in any bin)

As far as anyone knows, no list has been publicized yet, perhaps to keep stores from being overrun at opening, which is probably going to happen anyway.

I don't know why everyone is getting so worked up over this...this isn't a "sale" as many people are referring to it...it is simply best buy choosing to GET RID of 100+ skus if they are still in stock. They did not, nor are they announcing this to any customers.

On top of that, their is a reason they want to clear these out...quite simply, no one else wants them. Get over this "sale" quick.

Last year they just converted all of the marked down sku's over to front row games so that they wouldnt have to sell them at the clearance price.

However, depending on the cashier you get, you can always get em to peel off the front row sticker and scan the actual barcode for the clearance price.

As I said last night or this morning, I see Vice City Stories for PS2 is at 50% off on their site and I didn't see it in the weekly flyer, so that is a possibility for the markdowns.

Nothing, just got back from my Best Buy. I went to the video game section and the front, there were no mark downs that I saw. No 8.99 Skus. Nothing in the front either. I did not browse through the entire store either so take it for what it is worth.

I was the third one in the store behind a couple looking for a wii. While I was in there noone even went to the game section which kind of surprised me since there were about 5 cars in the parking lot waiting for it to open.

I know I dont have a lot of posts, so wait for other's confirmation.

my best buy has a cart that says manager clearance 4.99 and up things like halo 3 limited edition and phantasy star universe on 360. Wii games is ninjabread man. They have assassins creed and gengi on ps3. And then a bunch of ps2 and Psp games.

well when I was in BB yesterday buying Daisenryaku VII Exceed Modern Military Tactics I saw a rack off away from the games with games on it and a sign saying take 50% off but a quick look and the only thing interesting I saw was King of Fighters 2006 but did not bite. I will be watching the rack though seeing it is 2 mins from my work.

Just returned from the Tri-County Best Buy in Cinci. Nothing of note to report. They had two tables of games that appeared to have been marked ten dollars cheaper than their last price point. There were 3 x360 games (Bionicle Heroes: $14.99, Amped 3: 29.99 & The Outfit: 10.99), 1 Wii game (Metal Slug Anthology $29.99), and several PS2, xbox, ds and psp games. No PS3 games were on the tables. DS games I recall included Contact and Dragon Quest Monsters: Rocket Slime at $14.99.

I looked through the rest of the shelves and did not see any other markdowns.
None of the prices were notable and most if not all the games can be found elsewhere at lower prices.

Wow, I'll bet the 20 people in line at Best Buy when I drove by at 10:00 were pissed.

Seriously, the last Best Buy clearance sale (w/ list) in our area was a complete bust - we've got a smaller store so they usually only have new releases. I remember scouting it out a day or two ahead of time and there was nothing worthwhile that was going to be marked down.

Why anyone in my area expected better results this time around with no list is beyond me.

I'll just chug along until the next GameStop B2G1 sale.

He said they were mostly $10 less per game, nothing crazy cheap.
