Has anybody ever heard of the shipping company TNT? because i want to buy a PS3 from this guy on craigslist but he said he just moved to London and he wants to use some TNT shipping company is this guy fake or is that a real company??

heres the email:

My name is Eddy Quinde and I am now in London , United Kingdom (I was sent here wih my work). This PS3 was a gift for me but I already have an xBox and I don't need two games. We can close a deal asap. Obviously we need a way to complete this deal that will allow us to make
sure we receive what we are after. I have found a way for us to complete the deal safely and fast, and in this way you will receive the PS3 in less than 2 days, if you move fast
as well. The solution is provided by a company called TNT which is similar to Fedex, DHL or UPS, which will handle the payment and delivery of the PS3 . I have found a procedure that will allow you to pay for the PS3 only after you will receive it and through this way you will see it and test it before I receive my payment. Please click on the link bellow to the TNT website to see how we can complete the deal safely and fast directly from the website of the company where the procedure is explained:

http://www.tnt.com/country/en_generic/about/ournews/euexpansion.html (http://www.tnt.com/country/en_generic/about/ournews/euexpansion.html)

Like I said, I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the
PS3
right away.
I will explain to you step by step how this will work .
1) First you will have to send me your full name and address. I will need them for the shipping.
2) I go to the TNT store and leave the PS3 onto your name as the intended receiver
3) TNT will check the PS3 to see if everything is OK with it and also the legal papers that will come along with the PS3.
4) TNT will send you a delivery notification to let you know they have the PS3, in which you will be told that they have the PS3 and that they checked it
5) At this point you will have to go to a Western Union Agent Location and make a money deposit on the TNT payment agent name for the amount we agreed .
6) Aftermake the deposit yo you u will have to send the info about the money deposit to TNT (MTCN, sender's name and address)
7) TNT will verify the payment informations and if everything is in order they will deliver the PS3 to you .
8) After you receive the PS3 , check it and see that all is in order you will instruct TNT to send me the money.
If by any reason, you will not be satisfied with the product, you will return the product to TNT with no expense.
I will pay TNT for the shipping and you will pay Western Union for
the Money Transfer fee .
Let me know if we can do this.

Sounds fishy to me, I'd never mess with Western Union or Money Transfers with people I don't know.

TNT is a real company, they are HUGE in places like India and also have some presence in the EU.

I currently work for a shipping company and have been doing research on TNT as they are our largest competitor in India.

here is their main website:

http://www.tnt.com/

Anyways, my point is that this is totally legit (The TNT company....I can't vouch for the seller or anything else, but this is a real company)

it's a scam.

i've seen these from time to time on Craigs as well. I contacted one and got an email back that was almost identical to this one... except I think this time he had moved to Germany.

Never send money via Western Union unless it's to someone you know/trust.

"F.U.G.'s take: If I am this clueless to send a stranger $400 for something too good to be true, I need to lose my money. You'd do better contacting a crackhead for this deal ..."

After thinking about this, even though TNT is a real company and are big in shipping, I bet somehow this has to be a scam, in Europe the PS3 costs about $600 USD minimum, there is NO WAY this guy has a PS3 that he is willing to ship to the US for $400, not when he could EASILY get more selling it domestically, it makes no sense...

Yeah, stay away, and don't use TNT either stick with other companies that don't compete so much in the Indian Freight business, hahaha

Anywys, I think I may know how they work this 'scam' out.

By choosing a real shipping company that people in the US are unfamiliar with and since they are the one contacting them they can 'fool' someone here into sending the money.

1. They get your info
2. They send you a fake e-mail somehow faking a @tnt.com e-mail address or something telling you the agents name, making it look all official
3. You send the money to the person specified in the e-mail and they take your cash
4. If you try to contact TNT they will have no idea what you are talking about as the seller never did any service with them. Also, if you try to reply to the TNT e-mail you will get some error as undeliverable as it is a dummy/fake sent from address. Additionally the seller will never reply to any other e-mails, and since you are way over here in the US you have no easy method of tracking down this other person who now has your money.

It seems to me that if they have to give you numbered steps on how to buy the fucking thing, it's a scam.

Here's the simplified version of what will really happen:

1) You send him the money
2) You never receive your PS3
3) Profit (for him)

Who has to think about if this is a scam?

Step One: Wire Transfer to someone you have never met = SCAM.
Step Two: There is no step two.

Scam. Don't go for it. They don't verify contents, but they will verify they have a package and ship out garbage to you.

It's been called in this thread - scam, that's all it is. There's nothing more to it.

Movin' on...
