I know this sounds odd, but my local EB does a lifetime gaurantee. I know the actual manager and he has always said on his pre-owned games AND systems, if you run into any issues, he''ll swap. I said the company policy is 14 days but... Does sound odd but I know the guy quite well and i know he isn't blowing smoke up my butt.

A lifetime warranty on used games and systems? That's just insane.
Ask him if he wants to start selling cars and computers too, I'd be all OVER his store!

yes
I would do it on a REFURBISHED system, yes. But not a PREOWNED one. There's a reason people trade in their Xbox and PS2s. Typically its because of DDEs.
Refurbed is cool though because those come directly from Microsoft all fixed up good as new.

If you recieve a decent warranty for it, then yes. It's a really good deal.

ohh man I don't want to start a big fight...but I think ps2's have WAY more problems. I would look on the internet on how to identify the disc drive. If you can find one with a Samsung drive one I would do it in a second. If its a Thomson I would be a bit leary.
Personally I'd stay away from used CD based systems.
