View Full Version : What would you do about this NPB?
Had a guy win my auction last Sunday. He didn't contact me for 3 days until I sent him a 2nd e-mail (as a reminder) 3 days after the auction with simply 'i will get the money' Now today (6 days after the auction) he informs me that he doesn't want to buy my item after all.
I think I may send him a payment reminder through Ebay and then do the NPB form tomorrow (I believe they make you wait 7 days even if the buyer has told you flat out he ain't gonna pay.)
Should I even bother contacting him again?

No, don't tell him your filing the form, first say "If you leave me good feedback I'ol drop the whole thing" THEN do a NPB

I say that you need to just go through ebay themselves. This guy won't care about you following up since he already told you that he's not paying. Then again if you tell him that you're leaving good feedback and then do the NPB he still can leave bad feedback and call you out as being a liar.

you should send him the payment reminder through ebay and then file the form after he doesn't respond for 24 hours, give him a chance to reply to the payment reminder
Thanks for the ideas. I'm not gonna lie to him, even though I am a little POed about it.
I think I'll just do the NPB form on ebay tomorrow. I read through some of their help and I believe Ebay will notify him and give him 7 days to respond/pay before giving him the strike so I'll use that as the reminder.
If I go through the NPB route with Ebay would he be able to leave me retaliatory negative feedback? I'll do the form anyway, but that would suck.
(And a few minutes before getting this dude's e-mail I was sniped on a copy of Mechassault. Bad Ebay day for me )

Unless eBay policies have changed lately, he can leave bad feedback for you if he won the auction, regardless of whether he pays, and regardless of whether you file a NPB alert against him.
I've had a few non-paying bidders in the past. One said she bought 2 items by accident when she only meant to buy 1. She was very nice and very apologetic, so I ate the cost and relisted the item. The other one said she tried to pay, but since I only accept payment from confirmed address, which was stated in my auction, she said she couldn't pay. She did pay me the money I lost due to auction fees.
I'd suggest trying to work something out with the buyer. Most buyers are not jerks despite how they sometimes come across. Depending on his feedback, he may be willing to pay you the fees you incur from listing the item (and having to relist it if he doesn't buy it) if he can avoid having a NPB alert filed against him.
On the other hand, if your NPB has a history as a NPB, then his lack of payment this time around should be reflected in his feedback so that other potential sellers know what they're in for if he bids on their auctions. Keep in mind, though, that he can leave feedback for up to 90 days after the auction ends, as can you.

I usually have them paypal me all ebay and paypal fees. $1-$2 this usually works.
He has a feedback of 2 (no negatives) he actually bought and paid for something on the 7th after being a deadbeat to me on the 1st, which further pisses me off.
I went ahead and did the NPB dispute yesterday, I'll just see what happens.
Maybe I should have just let it go and relisted the item without doing a NPB. If he does leave me negative I'll just post an honest response and leave it at that. (But what could he say, 'Seller expected me to actually pay for the item I won! The nerve!!')

You don't have to LIE but the kid really deserves to get a negative feedback, and you really don't deserve to get one. I would say to him that you still expect him to pay and that you're being patient and please fill out a positive rating. Once he does it you need to blast him. Ebay's feedback policy is flawed as it is, but you can't let this kind of stuff go even if it risks getting you a negative. I have over 200 positive feedback with no negative, and that's important to me, but one time a seller had an incorrect description (car part compatibility) for something I received and he flat-out told me too bad, sell it to someone else on ebay. Which I did, for a few dollars more than I paid. But I still had to give him negative feedback. I was lucky to only receive a neutral from him, and he left no comment, because I hadn't done anything and paid him instantly.

I have left bad feedback for non-paying bidders just before submitting the Final Value Fee Credit. After you do this, Ebay's system will not accept feedback from either party on that aution.
I'd leave the feedback in 1 window and have a seperate window open with the FVC request open to be sent immediately after giving the negative feedback to the NPB. Just make sure you have waited the requisite time after the NPB alert before doing any of this. If you give the negative before you are able to apply for the Final Value Credit, you'll be leaving yourself open to retalliation.
That is some useful info bmulligan.
I think I have to wait one week after doing the non paying bidder dispute form (which I did yesterday) before applying for the final value credit.
To file for the credit do you view the dispute and select to close it because you don't want to wait for the buyer anymore, or is it a seperate form?
