*WHEW*
After much procrastination, I finally listed my first item on eBay. I'd figure I would let all you eBay experts tear apart my listing. So, please, give me all your wonderful insight on how I did. So that one day, I might become as skilled as you 8)

well, you might have tried trading it here for another game, or maybe even selling it.
But there's nothing wrong with the listing.

Okay well here's some advice that i got for you...first of all..since i have a 56k modem...that pic is taking forever to load!!!! maybe next time you want to upload a pic that is 56k tolerant. Ebay users who have dial up -like me -just don't want to wait so long to see one pic. Also, maybe you shouldn't you the paypal credit card pictures under the part where it says "Shipping and payment details". Some people can confuse the pictures as if you DO accept credit cards. I know you clearly state this in the text above, but some idiots just don't read everything. Even after i type all this, the picture has still not loaded. Consider cropping the picture a tiny bit. Cropping can drastically change picture size. For example, can reduce the picture size from 1.5 MB to 377kb.

OH GOSH! I totally spaced that! I have my Photoshop set on max quality. I cut it in half and re-uploaded. Let me know how that works :D

I don't think you can get rid of the paypal credit card pictures. If you select paypal as a payment option it shows up. Even if you don't choose credit card. At least that has been my experience. If there is a way to turn those pics off, please let me know too.

It's better than most eBay auctions I see from people with 1,000 + feedback. Either they decribe the item IN ALL CAPS WHICH IS REALLY ANNOYING or they speill evry other wor d incorrrectly wich 2 is annoying.
Just don't do either, and you should be good.

Aint that lame? Ebay owns Paypal so they know if you've linked your seller's account to a personal Paypal account or a business/premier account and IMO should not put the CC pics for accounts linked to a personal paypal account since they know good and well it can not accept those payments. I would upgrade my paypal account but it pisses me off that they take their fee whether or not the buyer has funded his payment from a CC or simply is using money that was already in his paypal account, etc. (In the latter case all paypal is doing is a quick data manipulation, probably costs them one thousandth of a penny...) Too bad there isn't a similar service just as popular so I could set it up for anyone that would want to use a CC and not be breaking any user agreements.
Sorry to hijack your thread with a rant zoopie! Auction looks good IMO. Always a good idea to include a pic, and your S&H is very reasonable. Insurance from the USPS is only $1.30 for the first $50 of value though BTW. (Doubt anyone would want it anyway.)

Thanks for all the input guys! On another note, some guy sent me the following question:
Hi, What is the PIN number for this game? It should be on one of the inserts. Thanks!
My reply:
Hey! I won't be surrending the PIN so you can enter it on Nintendo's site as part of their promo. Nice try though :) Have a good day!
What a slickster! I should have been more mean  Unless there is another reason someone would request the PIN, in which case, I feel utterly stupid!

I think your post looks very good. Good layout on the picture. One thing I've found with taking pictures -- to avoid the flash showing up in the photo, stand back and use your camera zoom to get up close. The flash will fill a larger area and you won't get that glare.
This assumes that you have a zoom on your camera.

That is funny, there is no reason to want the PIN other than for entering it on Nintendo's site. Right now you can get the Metroid demo with five PIN's.

Nice layout, everythings great. But I choose to spend a little more time and do all my auctions in HTML. This way it looks very professional and I can have unlimited pictures. I usually take multiple pictures of the item and I am brutally honest with it's condition. Buyers like honesty. If the box is a little flawed I let them know in the auction. Also, try converting all your bitmap pictures into jpegs and then cropping. It can lower the size dramatically. I personally believe that HTML auctions attract a lot more potential buyers. And the #1 way to get good feedback is to be as responsive and timely as possible. I reply to emails as soon as I get them and I ship my items the same day as receiving the payment. Also, make an eBay "About Me" page. This way buyers can see your eBay background, your feedback, and your items all on one page, and encourages them to trust you that much more.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Your acution looks good. It's very easy to find the essential info such as S&H and payment methods. I do have a few suggestions though...
You ideally shouldn't charge more than what the insurance will actually cost you. You run the risk of being reported to eBay if you do charge more, especially if you're using USPS insurance. You should probably state what kind of insurance you'll be using if the buyer pays for it, and why you're charging more than the actual fee if that's what yer doing. If you want to pocket a few extra cents, then it's best to pad your S&H fee, not the insurance fee. Just a suggestion. :)
What about returns? It's a good idea to state whether you accept returns and, if you do, under what conditions you'll accept them.
Nice job on your first auction. Welcome to the world of selling.... it's definitely an eye opening experience. :D

Yeah, you're dead on with the insurance. I just kind of put a random average I ran across from other game auctions. Thirty seconds of research on the USPS site gave me the actual rates. I guess I am too slothful for my own good sometimes. Will correct this next time

While I am extremely delighted at the current bid ($20.00), I am a little worried. Why would anyone dare bid that high? If I recall, this game still retails for $19.99 NEW, and is even on sale next week for $16.99. A part of me tells me it might be a non-paying bidder (even though they have 100% feedback) or a bid error. Has something like this happened to any of you before?

You can justify more for insrance because of the form you have to fill out. I always put as is no returns. That solves so many problems.

Yes, the stupidity of Ebay buyers will force you to upgrade your Paypal account to Premier. Just do it; it saves so many headaches.
Then make a second (personal account) for dealings here on CAG.

I'm just wondering why someone is going to pay $23 for a $19 game.
I guess you made some profit, kudos!
