More info at: www.gameriot.com.

I went to the Ohio State Fair on Friday, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out about a thing called GameRiot happening on the grounds. (The only other time I could find this posted on CAG was by CheapyD on March 20 back when the tour was announced.)

Anyway, it's basically an Xbox E3 for the average guy. A huge tent housed about 75 LCD and Plasma screens hosting over 30 different games. They also had an insanely high number of Alienware computers (around 40 if I counted right).

Playable games (that I can remember) included:
Forza Motorsport
Project Gotham Racing 2
Mech Assault 2: Lone Wolf
Chronicles of Riddick
Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow
Rallisport Challenge 2
Red Ninja
America's Army
Toca 2
Tony Hawk's Underground
Sid Meier's Pirates
Halo
Jade Empire
Call of Duty
ESPN NBA 2K5
ESPN NFL 2K5
ESPN NHL 2K5
ESPN MLB 2K5
Kameo
Sudeki
Shrek 2
Spiderman 2
Soul Calibur 2
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004
Tribes: Vengeance
Men of Valor
Unreal Tournament 2004
Doom 3

Conker: Live and Reloaded... advertised, listed on website, but a no show.

Many of these titles have already been released, but I found it to be cheaper to rent them all, and a lot less hassle!!! I could easily try out quite a few of the games that I had been contemplating purchasing.

The best part was the Halo tournament. I've been away from Halo since college ended this past June, but I managed to still win my first Halo game after 2 months of not even seeing the game!!! Bunch of n00bs, lol. Anyway, if you just play Halo and win, you get a free Hip Gear Xbox Controller from Blockbuster redeemable with one videogame rental/purchase. I also upgraded to an all day pass after paying $5 for an hour, to get the all day for $15. They handed out Xbox laniards with Halo 2 cards for this.

In the back of the tent, they had free Mountain Dew and free copies of the latest Xbox Magazine issue.

The Halo tournament was back at 4 PM for the Master Chief of the day competition. If you won, you got your pic on their website, a free game, and a chance to win the $500 tournament at the end of the fair. Long story short, they wouldn't let us customize controls or select color. I was stuck with a look speed of 3, after being used to only 10, and I was pleasantly *sarcasm* surprised to find myself bright yellow after dying after a killing spree... Needless to say, I lost 15 to 12 to a bunch of other scores.

I was content with the free controller and Xbox laniard though. If any of you are close to, or are planning on heading down to the Ohio State Fair, I highly recommend checking this out. I just ask that I get $25 if you win the $500 Halo Tournament.

*edit* remembered a few more games
*edit 2* website added, few more games

Damn, that sucks not being able to customize the controls. I suck unless I play at a 7 look sensitivity.

you can customize look sensitivity? Whats that all about. I have had Halo since launch, Pretty sad huh? Although I rarely play vs mode. usually co-op.

Did you get a chance to play Forza? If so what was it like?

jeffreyjrose

Shame on you BigNick, lol! You can customize almost everything about your controller setup: different button layout and look sensitivity. The sensitivity controls how fast you turn with the control stick. Try changing it to a higher number than 3 to see how it affects your effectiveness with the shotgun, fighting multiple enemies, etc.

Aaah, Im going ot have to try that. The only thing I need is inverted look.

Oh man, why?! I hate the inverted controls, on a FPS. I'm running around with a gun, not flying a jet.

Yes, it was hella sweet. It was the main game that I went into the tent for. There were only three playable tracks, but there were about 20 different playable cars: Subaru WRX, Dodge Viper, etc. The damage modeling on the cars was more than I had hoped for, and the best that I have seen on an Xbox racer yet. The controls were extremely easy to pick-up after playing Project Gotham and Midtown Madness 3. I can see that I have a lot of perfecting to do to my racing game though; most notably on sharp turns and not wanting to slow down. This racer is very realistic.

On the car selection screen, the car models took a long time to load... the tracks also took quite a while to load. I am assuming this is because this is an unfinished product. Other than that, the visuals of this game were jaw-droppingly gorgeous, and I say this after having played PGR2, PGR, Sega GT 2002, and Midtown Madness 3. The car handling/controls were superb. I think Xbox may finally have a racer to contend with Gran Turismo if the number of cars and car customizations are what they are hyped/said/hoped to be. (Neither of these issues could be determined from the demo I played.)

Yep, and they had two screens set up for it so that you could play one on one against someone else.

I spent about ten minutes with it. Visuals looked impressive, storyline looked immersive... but the game looked like it required more attention than I had to give it for my 2 1/2 hours spent there. Halo, Forza, and Doom 3 simply took the majority of my time.

In other words, I have no idea how it really is. Looked pretty and had a lot of dialogue. I could also do some pretty sharp maneuvers/attacks while moving around the baddies that I was fighting.

Did they delay it, I thought it was slated for a December release?

And yeah, Forza sounds real awesome, looks like it and GT4 will be battling it out to see who get my dollar.

xbox.com lists the street date as January 2005, which would put it five months away... right between both of your guys' suggested release dates, lol.

I went to their site and found out that they're gonna stop by Atlanta which is close to me. I wanted to find directions and stuff but there's no way to view anything like that. Can anyone find somewhere with more information about each stop?

Boo-urns, the closest to me was Columbus...which really isn't even that close.

Hey Crash, don't forget to brush up on your NFL 2K5, Project Gotham Racing 2, and Halo so that you can win a free Xbox controller and possibly a free game!

try using map quest if you know what building it is or if you know the general area or just call them if they have a number

I hate you. :x

But seriously I remember when Gameriot came to KC. What total ass. They were running a tournament at the time but the online was down. I checked around and EVERY SINGLE game they had out was already out but I had come for one, SURPRISE! and that wasn't around. This was "Sudeki" before it was released.
Did you even play "Kameo"? Man I would've liked to try that and some others like "Doom 3" unless it was the PC version. Also "Lone Wolf" and "Red Ninja".
