This week on sale at BB, purchase any HD DVD player and get 2 in box, 2 more in store and 5 by mail-in. Not sure if posted already, but that is a hell of a deal. Especially with A3 going down to $150.00

Lol...let the war being.

I don't care what anyone says, but these killer sales MUST be doing something for HD DVD sales...

Great deal though. Even if its going to be a upconverter for reg dvds.

Picked mine up today. I figure even if blu ray has won, it will at least be another year until anything really shapes up. Until then I'll enjoy my cheap upconversion dvd player + 9 free flicks.

I pciked up Face/Off two disc set and Blade Runner 5 disc set as my two "freebies".

And yes, they look beautiful.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I did try to pick up the Matrix box set to see if the same glitch as before would work; it didn't.

Not much man... HD is not setting itself up to sell movies, just players which can only go so far. I know i have a Blu icon in my sig but Im neutral and previously HDDVD only.

Software sales down:

And less shelf space:

Part of Blu-ray's strategy is a "top down" approach that starts with studios and retailers and pushes downwards to consumers. It seems to be working, as several retailers are falling in line and shifting shelf space away from HD DVD in favor of Blu-ray. The linked article describes how buyers for several retail chains are shifting orders and shelf space away from the embattled HD DVD format. It's grim news, but none of them is giving up on the format entirely (at least not yet). Also, online shops that enjoy more "long tail" sales (Amazon, DVD Empire) haven't made big changes in product mix, and neither has HD giant Best Buy (no mention ofrumor faveTarget). Still, talk along the lines of "... special order HD DVD titles for customers if needed" sounds like a death rattle to us.

Good deal for the player though, I would get another one if I had more Tvs :-D

Faceoff is an excellent choice. Enjoy it.

Is this an online offer only?

Is the Toshiba HD-A3 $149 good?

or should I buy a more expensive one.

I only plan on watching very few hd dvd's on it since I will probably watch regular dvd's on it

The next one up is $199, and the only difference that I could see is that it does 1080p where the A3 does 1080i. I'm expecting Blu Ray to win the war, so I didn't see a point in spending $50 now when I'm going to be spending more to buy a BR player in the future, which will have the 1080p.

To me, this purchase was really just about an upconversion player for my old dvds. The HD is more of a bonus.

Toshiba makes the 360 HD-DVD Player. I'm nearly positive it would be applicable here.

And no, honzoh.

Damn. Best Buy really wants to get rid of their HD-DVD stock. Can't say I blame them.

Can we PLEASE keep the format war nonsense out of deal threads? This isnt SD.

This isnt a "fire sale" or "close out". Toshiba dropped the price as part of a strategy to counter the WB move. Be it good or bad or successful doesnt matter. Also this BB promo was more than likely made months ago.

Best Buy had 10 free blu-rays with a player last week, does that mean they're trying to get rid of blu-ray too?

For anyone considering this deal, keep in mind you can pick pre-orders as your two free. Which includes American Gangster and Bee Movie.

I wish we could just get all the movies there all at once including the 5 free in the mail, so many to choose from

That's a lie. The deal is over but whatever. Don't lie.

The free instore was ANY BR disc $34.99 and under excluding TV seasons. The ad was very clear and if the person at BB screwed you over by saying it was AGangster & Bee Movie, thats your fault for not knowing the sales. I work their PT and know the promotions and preorders are NEVER part of them. Who does preorders in store for dvds anyway?

I don't know how to say it politely so I'll just say it: :-#. His first sentence has nothing to do with his second. American Gangster (Universal) and Bee Movie (DreamWorks) are HD-DVD exclusive movies which is why he mentioned them in the same sentence as the HD-DVD deal going on. Not only that, he specifically said "this deal" and since we're in a thread about "Nine Free HDDVD's with Purchase of Player at Best Buy" it doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist to figure out what he was talking about. Well, maybe it does.

edited for lack of banning.

Ooh that would be nice...though most coupons have that "Not valid in combination with any other offer" copout, so its basically YMMV on that, if it comes up automatically when they scan, youre golden, if they have to manually override, just hope you get someone cool to do it.

I got my blu ray player about 2 or 3 weeks ago when they had 5 free in store movies and 5 by mail. The best buy I went to wouldn't let me use a 20% coupon I had along with the 5 free movies. So the next day I went to another best buy for a price adjustment with the coupon and the lady did it for me.

I was able to use the coupon and the total was $130.25 and the two free movies I picked were PAN'S LABYRINTH and blane runner.
