I have to say the Farsight from Perfect Dark ranks near the top. X-Ray capabilites, some tracking ability, can shoot through walls, and kill in one shot.

The WEAPONs in FF7 were pretty nasty, but if you mean usuable, the Soul Edge, and of course, the BFG 9000.
Really, if it has the name of "Big Fucking Gun", it's gonna be powerful.

I was in a Quake clan called NK (nefarious killers). So I went by...
Guile*NK*
When it died I changed it to "Guile was NK" because I was in NK . That way people who used to be in the clan could still remember me if I run into them online and they have different clans or names.

I enjoyed the laptop turret gun in Perfect Dark for the N64. Its one of my favorites of all the FPS ever. Oh and speaking of FPS, the AWP in counterstrike hold a special place in my heart.

Yeah the Laptop Gun was cool as hell.
Atma Weapon from Final Fantasy III dealt all kinds of damage too about as awesome as RPG weapons come..
The Barn Blaster from Earthworm laid major smackdown on enemies.
Unlabored Flawlessness in Ninja Gaiden is slow but the sheer ass-whipping capability of that weapon is awesome.

In response to the actual topic, the pistol in Halo. My friends won't even play me anymore.

The BFG in all its incarnations through the ID games. Spread Needle with 180% (Hacked of course.) from PSO v.2 would guarantee no one but you got EXP. The ever so cheap .50 cal from Rainbow Six 3 on Xbox and last but not least the crossbow from XIII. While it wasn't especially powerful like other stuff the head shot sniper kills always cracked me up.

In terms of total deployments and effectiveness, it has to be the good old standard issue plumber's boots. Those things have stomped the life out of more stuff than anything else that comes to mind.

Every weapon is devastating when I use it against my brothers or friends.
Multi-player aside, I'd say the good ol' shotgun. It's useful in just about every game it's in no matter what the situation. It doesn't take up half the screen, guarantee one-hit kills or launches mini-nukes, but it gets the job done time and time again.
It doesn't matter if it's a zombie infested city or a multi-player frag fest, you know you have a chance once you get a shotgun.

Wow, surprised no one has mentioned it: The Golden Revolver from James Bond 007: Goldeneye.
Goldeneye has the best weapons: Dual Golden PP97's, Dual Moon Raker Lasers, and a sweet Rocket Launcher.
Also the AWP (Arctic Warfare Magnum, noob cannon) and the M4A1 (Colt) and the Deagle (Desert Eagle) and the M3 (12-gauge pump shotty) from Counter-Strike are pretty kick-ass.

The Seven Sword in FF Legend 2. You needed a badass character to use it, but if you could land all seven hits, pretty much everything died.
The cannon in Serious Sam was pretty badass as well.
Lu Bu's tenth weapon in Dynasty Warriors 4 nearly breaks the game, since both he and that weapon are so powerful.

Agreed. I always kept a hacked spread in my inventory on ver.2 when I played unlocked games. That way if I got an annoying idiot on my team I could deny them the chance to gain any experience as punishment.
I never did use it in battle mode though, that was just way too cheap.
On GC PSO, only ranger characters could pretty much use the spread needle, so that exp hogging problem pretty much solved itself...unless you had a ranger on your team.
My favorite non hacked weapon on GC PSO was the Snow Queen combined with a Cure/Freeze Unit. I could freeze all the enemies in the room and not get frozen by my own weapon. Then I could sit back and be a lazy ass while the rest of my party members scrambled to get the now easily killed popsicle enemies. Everybody wanted my lazy ranger in their party after I obtained that weapon.

Transforms into a automatic turret, that thing was sweet in multiplayer. You could set up traps anywhere.

The leg sweep in Virtua Fighter 2. I know it's silly, but my friends had some surreal battles that consisted of almost all leg sweeps.
Also the double ship trick in Galaga was potent.
