View Full Version : Just want to vent about a horrible seller

Ran into an awful seller this past month on eBay.

Here's the timeline:

Dec 21: Bought and paid for 2 Netgear XE102 units (powerline ethernet adapters to use with my 360.)
Dec 21: Seller e-mails that they have been shipped Priority. [Sweet, I figured it might not ship until after Xmas which would have been acceptable to me.]
Dec 28ish: I get back from relatives over Xmas and no package. I figured I'd give it a couple more days. The DC # shows the standard USPS was notified to expect this package on Dec 21 blah blah.
[Next few days] E-mailed seller several times about shipping status with no response.
Jan 2ish: I notice the DC# finally has been updated so the item is in transit. So she took nearly 2 weeks to actually mail it after teling me it had been sent and didn't bother to reply to any of my e-mails or let me know it had been shipped late with an apology.
Jan 7: I receive the item, but it's the wrong thing! I got 2 Netgear WGX102 units. They don't serve the same function and aren't usable to me.
[Next day or two] E-mail the seller three times about this with *shocker* no response at all. She had active listings ending all through this entire period so I know she was on eBay.
Jan 9: File PayPal dispute for SNAD. She never responds to the dispute.
Jan 22: PayPal finally refunds my money.
Jan 25: She files a NPB dispute on me!

(When I say 'e-mailed' I mean I sent a message through eBay messaging.)

Now it might be her automated auction management tool filed the NPB since the listing now shows up in her 'Needs Payment' list. But give me a break. Filing a NPB complaint on top of all the other crap she pulled on this one. [-(

I wish eBay would boot jerks like this.

Oh and here's the icing on the cake:

Buyer actions reported by seller: The buyer has not responded.

Yeah sorry to hear that.. people on ebay for the past 2 months for me have been complete assholes.

The worst part is, she gets the paypal DC, but doesnt send it out for another two weeks! Thats the one downfall to the paypal dc, you can create it, but you dont have to send it right away -_-V

I had an asshole buyer of mine bitch at me today for not shipping her guitar hero rock the 80's . She paid last wednesday. SHE PAID BY FREAKING ECHECK. It cleared today. Im like wtf!? Dont pay by the slowest possible method?

Yep, the USPS could technically return to sender on it since it was mailed out so late I believe. (This ends up making it look like they took 2-3 weeks to deliver something sent Priority mail after all.) But in practice I imagine they rarely do.

I try to mark the labels with a mailing date of the next day if I'm printing them off the prior evening. Every now and then I forget as PayPal defaults it to the current date (even if it's after mailing hours...) but never anything this bad.

NPB complaint?

I sent out three games early december for some ebay buyers and they never got delivered. Long story short, they were stolen out of a usps truck right after the driver picked them up. I'm still trying to get my money back form usps. I did refund all bidders in full though.

Non Paying Bidder complaint.

Why didn't you pay for your auction? ;)

Sorry to hear about that. Ebay can be so great, and then there are those bad apples.

I really do wish Ebay would take a harder line on people like this. The problem with Ebay is, people can get away with so much and you literally only have the choice of dealing with a bad seller/buyer, or not use ebay at all.

If you ever need a reputable eBay seller I'm your man ^_^ I have 100% positive feedback and very satisfied customers. Unfortunately there are a LOT of bad sellers out there, so I am just trying to change the way people feel about game sellers in particular. There's also a lot of bad buyers (who receive games and claim they never did, or who ask for refunds and won't send products back too). I guess it can work both ways =P

You think that Ebay would simply check your mail folder for messages sent to that seller to dispute the "The buyer has not responded" issue...

Yep, for the most part buyers and sellers are fine but it only takes a couple bad apples to spoil the experience for a lot of eBayers.

In the end I got my refund and I'm hoping eBay cancels this NPB dispute (if they don't I'm going to be very POed.) So it didn't turn out too badly for me. It just infuriated me that this seller didn't bother responding to any of my messages. My assumption is that she was hoping I would either just give up or not realize I could complain to PayPal about the problem. Or it's just that she never responds to anything and has her automated auction management tool handle all communication and auction follow up. Who knows?

I much prefer dealing with smaller sellers, but in this case she had what I wanted at a good price on a BIN so I went with a large power seller. Bleh.

QFT - i had someone complain that i didn't send out a graphics card out on time and that it took almost 2 weeks to ship! it took nearly 10 days for the damn echeck to clear. i was like, i don't have a reason to hold back shipment. it was you who paid by echeck.

That right there irks the shit outta me.

I had someone try giving me shit like that once and I did the same. IF they want it faster, pay with a faster method.

Why not get their ph# via ebay and call em?

I've actually had a buyer, pay after 7:00 (eastern time, my PO closes at 7) and then an hour later, ask me if I had shipped the item. We won't even add the fact that it was an eCheck.

I mean, I will give them a little for it being in different time zones, maybe they didn't realize that it was so late here, but pay and then an hour later ask if I had shipped?

I do believe in getting items to anyone I trade/sell to as quickly as I can, but an hour later? (+ the PO is closed, and there payment has not even cleared.) That's a little tooo much. :bomb:

However, I know truly see that anyone can have an eBay account.

ebay for many years now has been hiding that their system is flawed. it works when it works. but when it doesn't the CSR is there to assist you in finding the written policy. and that "ebay cannot do anything at this point". i mean seriously i've gotten so many of that same excuse. ebay are for the powersellers. there is no doubt about that.

i also notice that if you have multiple issues with someone, they will only try to work on 1 issue and ignore the rest. its like they are trying to limit themselves and wants you to actually create another complaint.

Indeed. I also try to get stuff out as soon as I can, but some people expect a little too much sometimes. Sorry, but I'm not running out the door as soon as you pay, no matter what the method. I do have a life.

How long is eBay going to give this lazy ass to respond?

I responded to the NPB dispute the morning of the 25th that I did in fact pay with the ref # of the PayPal payment and it's still sitting open awaiting the other party's response. So that's what 11 days now? Gimme a break.

did you notice the new feedback changes coming up(or maybe already implemented, not sure)?

One of note is that Buyers can only receive positive feedback.

wubb
02-04-2008, 11:29 AM
Yeah, I did notice that. I suppose there won't be much reason to have a separate account for buying once that goes into effect but I'll probably keep to that system. I feel like my seller account has plenty of feedback and the 1 I get buying for every 40 or 50 selling doesn't really mean much.

That's pretty gay, I can't lie there. I never sell on eBay but I do buy frequently. I like to keep with the philosophy, "Pay the seller on the spot, expect shipping in 24-48 hours like any other legitimate business" and it has always been that way. But then again, I'm pretty damn picky with who I conduct business with.

Seriously though, I'm really sorry you had to put up with a pain in the ass like that.

Not sure if you guys know this or not, but eBay is changing their feedback policy soon where buyers cannot receive bad feedback from sellers. It's kind of a double-edged sword because honestly MOST buyers don't deserve negative feedback if they pay on time, but there's also those that will just leave negatives for no good reason or hold back their payment until you give them good feedback. So it could work both ways. As a buyer I'm happy for the change, but as a seller I'm a bit cautious to say the least.

Oh and for PowerSellers, you will receive "discounts" based on how good your feedback ratings from buyers are. The listing prices are going to be cheaper now but the final value fees are going up, so really you're not actually saving much. Typical eBay stuff.

I used to sell quite a bit on e-bay but with lots of bootleg items out there, trying to sell legitimate items at a decent price became a losing proposition. Between e-bay & paypal fees.

About the only good thing to come out of the new feedback rules are people who don't pay and get a Non Payment tagged on them can no longer leave negative feedback for the seller for that item. I have recieved negative feedbacks for things that are out of my control, (like them not paying inside 21 days and complaining that I did not give them enough time to send payment)

I do end up buying some on ebay mostly for customers that would rather not deal with the risks, so I end up taking the risk for the purchases and such for them.

Also as a seller, I thought that once payment is recieved (and cleared as checks and some Money orders (read the back of the western union/grocery store money orders) I should be quick about shipping either the next morning or the day after. Also once I shipped I would leave feedback for the seller as the buyer trusted me with his hard earned money I should not hold his feedback hostage until he gives me a positive feedback.

As a buyer I get lots of messages from sellers telling me to leave them positive feedback before they will leave me positive feedback. My current policy for buyers has not changed but sellers demanding feedback first just get ignored and I no longer shop with them.

Yes I have negative feedbacks on my account. a couple from 7 years ago (as a buyer) are deserved. (had to back out on a couple purchases). But most of my negatives are retaliation feedbacks from non paying buyers or sellers who sold me items under fraudulent terms.

The big problem I have is the high number of bootleg sellers on ebay and the fact ebay does not take any action against them.
