looking for a somewhat 5 years futureproof pc for around $500. Don't want to build my own. I also don't need any peripherals, just the tower. What are some good websites besides dell and the b&m stores. though its a little more this is basicallly what I'm going for

Decent? That's a great deal. Just get a new GFX card and you are set.
EDIT: Aw shit, just saw that it's a slimline. Nvm.

Good Deal!
I thought it came with everything.
But it's still a good deal.

Personally, I'd go this route:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/91414003/wo/fb3vi4GcKRK33mEXrZk1oDZf7EL/2.?p=0
But if you must have a Windows box, I'd buy a Dell XPS 420 for $899. I build/fix computers for a living and I point my customers to either Apple or Dell. If I wanted to expand my business tenfold all I'd need to do is tell all my customers to buy HP/Compaq since those in my experience tend to break down the most.
If your pretty set on the $500 price tag, look for a local mom & pop type store that builds machines. Get something with at least 2GB of ram and a Intel Core2Duo CPU. Then you can wait for a sale deal and get a nice video card.

the one bad thing from reading on slickdeals is that you don't have the ability to upgrade as much.

If you want to upgrade to a decent video card, you're out of luck. No one really produces "low-profile" cards, and the few that are floating around out that are terrible. It's mostly all low-end stuff, like a Geforce 6200 or Radeon x1300.
