Found this on ArsTechnica, which is a story about the 80GB SKU being replaced with a possible new SKU, packing a 120-160GB drive w/a DualShock 3 controller:

http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2008/01/27/mole-80gb-ps3-dead-120-160gb-with-dual-shock-3-incoming

Would make sense as a trump move to the Elite on the 360-side of things.

Appears to be a repost from this post in the $299 40GB PS3 thread:

Then again, I'd expect something like this to warrant a new thread. Close, please.

The latest SKU registered at the FCC (back in October), from my research in another thread, matched the white PS3 (which only has two USB ports and appears to look almost exactly the same as the 40GB.

Do I think there will be another premium model with DS3 one day?
Probably.

But I do not think it features will be anything like a few rumors today are saying (that SKU came up again by in late October/early November, having a large HDD and several features, but some of them are inaccurate (like it mentions the original RSX specs, etc. Many of them relate to the original PS3 SKU back in E3 2005, with 6 USB ports and such)).

The big question is whether the 120-160GB model will retain software based BC.

If it's based on the 80GB design, then it should. If it goes down the 40GB route, then it won't.

As Sony's said more than once recently that BC isn't a concern for them, and the 40GB is proof of that, then I don't see any SKU like this being a 40GB system with a bigger HD and a DS3.
