View Full Version : FYE - 50% off ALL GAMES - YMMV

Nelstone

I'm not sure if this has already been posted elsewhere.

The FYE at the Altamonte Mall in Altamonte Springs, Florida is selling all of it's video games for 50% off. Not sure if this is nation wide.

It looks like FYE stores without a huge dedicated gaming section are clearing out games instead of shipping them to the larger FYEs.

Here is what I picked up (price after 50% off):

- Enchanted Arms Collectors Edition, 360: $20
- Untold Legends: The Warriors Code, PSP: $10
- Jeanne D'Arc, PSP: $15
- Capcom Mini Mix, GBA: $5

Slim pickins' beyond that, IMHO.

Can anyone around the Buffalo area confirm this for the McKinley Mall FYE? I'm out at school and can't get there, but I can get someone to pick stuff up for me.

Thanks in advance.

It's getting to the point where we almost need a YMMV board--deals could, of course, eventually migrate over to the main board if it turned out they were widespread. It's just increasingly annoying that the main deal board is muddled with anywhere from five to fifteen YMMV threads depending upon the day... and that a nearly insignificant number of people will get in on these deals.

Nothing against you personally OP nor your deal, just a trend that has been getting increasingly worse over the past few months.

Don't mean to pile on, but yes, this is massively YMMV. It's all about finding an FYE that is either closing or one that is no longer going to carry games. Also, unless you are lucky enough to hit up when it first strikes, all of the local hoarders will clear the place out of just about anything of value.

Last time I checked my local FYE their used game prices were insanely high. So even half off wouldn't be to much.

And their new games are often priced at the original MSRP, no matter how old. The closest FYE to me still has the $59.99 tag on MLB 2K7, which has been put on clearance in a lot of places or can be found for $30 amost anywhere. I was able to get a few choice titles at a great price when I hit up the store that was closing in Wayne, NJ, but like I said, the place had already been destroyed by hoarders.

Adding to the two posts above me. Another factor, A little while ago a local store did this when they were eliminating games. Used games were not discounted at all. Only new merchandise.

This is definitely a YMMV, as I've been to two different FYE's in the past month. One didn't have the sale (although it was liquidating its PC line). However, the other store started off with 30% and went to 50% two weeks ago (I hope to check the store one more time tomorrow to see if they still have Boogie for the Wii).

My shopping list due to the sale:

XBOX 360
-Perfect Dark Zero
-Black Controller w/ Rechargeable Battery
-Halo 3 Special Edition

WII
-Component cables

DS
-Mega Man Starforce Pegasus
-Star Fox Assault

GBA
-Astroboy Omega Factor

PSP
-Final Fantasy

I was thinking about driving out to checkout what they had to offer but it seems like they mark up everything to retail value and then offer the 50% off of that. If it was 70% or 80% off then it might be a great deal. I already have paid full dollar for most games that I want!

Went to 2 of the 4 Fyes in Portland and neither carry new game stuff anymore. They only carry used. Wherehouse still has new games. Also should be mentioned, the sale is new games ONLY, doesn't apply to used ones, and it ends February 2.

Eh, nevermind.

Two L.A. area fye / Wherehouses just up and shut down seemingly overnight. Seems like it was there one week and completely closed down and totally empty the next.

Where are thieves going to sell their stolen games and DVDs now? One of those fyes had a lot of my stolen games and DVDs after my apartment was robbed and they wouldn't give me names and the police couldn't be bothered to follow up citing it as a "coincidence". Good riddance!

I got a funny feeling that large chains are wising up to our (SD and FW too!) antics and are less likely to hit up the national clearances. I hope I'm wrong on this.

At least two stores (probably more) in the Metro Detroit area (Berkley & Oakland Mall) are liquidating their game section. Wii and PS3 games have been sent to their larger store at Great Lakes Crossing.

The Berkley, MI store had a decent selection of 360 games and some accessories, some PSP and UMD movies, good selection of DS games and tons of PS2/Xbox games.

I scored Tiger Woods '08 for $24.99, a 4000 Pts. card for $24 and a rechargeable (black) battery for $6. A buddy got the Live Vision Kit ($35), NBA '08 ($24.99), LiveArcadeUnplugged ($10) and a Charge Kit (15).

I actually scored on this one. The FYE in Hemet, CA. has been clearing out everything for 50% except Wii and PS3 merchandies. All other games, including XB360 and DS titles and accessories, are half off.
I walked in earlier this weeek and while the shelves had been picked pretty clean I was still able to find some good deals, including nabbing my brother-in-law a copy of Smackdown 08 on XB360 for half price.

The real kicker was that they included XBL membership cards in the deal so I nabbed a 12+1 membership card for $25. I'm seriously thinking about grabbing a few more if they haven't sold out yet.

Yeah, I checked both the Lakeline Mall store and the Highland Mall store. The first had zero video game merchandise, except for a "free-for-all" type bin at the back of the store that had a GBA E-Card reader and a three pack of billiards games for PS2. Yup... that's it.

I was luckier at the latter location, which had all kinds of games. (All consoles were represented.) Don't ask me what they had, because all I can think about is the bazillion copies of "The Hobbit" that were staring me in the face while I quickly flipped through the stacks. I did see plenty of XB360 and PS2 games, maybe one or two Wii & PS3. Forget about grabbing anything post- Ass Creed, pretty much.

I can confirm they are dying to sell off their inventory. The manager on duty must've asked me at least three times to "go ahead and grab a stack-full, we don't want them vidya games taking up rack space."

LOL.

Hope this helps.

they don't know about it because it's not a promotion. FYE has been clearing out the "new" video game sections of low selling stores for the last 6 months or so. if the stores by you aren't getting rid of their new game section then you won't see the games being discounted.

That smiley is very appropriate.

I went to the Imperial Valley Mall FYE today, and I asked a clerk about this. Then he went to ask who I assume was the manager, who immediately yelled "NO! THAT'S NOT TRUE!" and just glared at me. Meh. I hate this store.

They did however have a promo on used games: Buy three, get one free. What in the hell. Not only were all their games unbelievably overpriced, they didn't even know which was the right price! I saw games with different price tags - an example being three copies of a One Piece game for the Gamecube, which were tagged at $7, $19, and $40. Oh yeah, all the used games had new stickers on top of the older ones, so I'm sure they raised the price JUST FOR THIS PROMO.

GOD I hate that store.

Would this imply that all new games are 50% off? Should these threads have been combined? The bioshock thing might not be YMMV.

FYE midtown shutdown?? Did they have a clearance? Shit i missed out..... I work just 2 blocks away and haven't been there in a while b /c of their bloated prices. Everything was 65 where it should have been 60 etc...Ridiculous!

Does anyone know if palisades mall or white plains is in with this 50% off? Or anywhere in northern jersey?

Fair Oaks Mall, Va has three copies of Bioshock at $20(one downstairs, two upstairs), but no clearance. I wonder if this is a pricing error...no other good deals at the store.

Fye at the Galleria in Houston barely has anything anymore. Only NEW Games right now are only 30% off as well as accessories. I picked up a xbox 360 rechargeable battery for only $9.08. Not bad i guess, but they didn't have anything else worth buy except Stranglehold. I'll wait until thats 50% off though...

Don't know why this is YMMV.... this should be nation wide, all the signs said chain-wide clearance or nation-wide.

I'm not sure if anybody already posted this, but this is confirmed at the Polaris Mall in the Dublin / North Columbus, Ohio area. Went there, but nothing too shabby. Bunch of left over PS2 and Xbox junk. I was at the Tuttle Mall location and they had B2G1 on all used games. It seems as if the Polaris store jacked up some of the prices....

...shady...

If I remember correctly. I was at both stores in the same day.

More than likely, they didn't jack up prices. FYE generally doesn't lower prices on anything game-related. There is a copy of MLB 2K7 sitting at my local FYE, still labeled at $59.99. And if they did jack up prices, that is an unfortunate, yet common, liquidation trick, used to sucker in rubes who think 50% (or whatever) off is always a deal, even when the product can be bought elsewhere for cheaper.

While this is true, a lot of FYE's started doing this a while back. The nearest FYE to me (literally walking distance) clearanced their games out almost a year ago now. It's nationwide for FYE's that havent done it yet, but some regions already have.

This is YMMV because only some of the stores are clearing out their games, not all of them. The one near me has a great selection of games, but of course they're not doing it.

At the FYE in Burbank, CA - Just picked up Ratchet and Clank PSP for $19 and NHL 08 for 360 for $25. NHL is sooooooooo fucking good. Highly recommended to anyone who ever loved those old genesis hockey games. It was EGM sports game of the year and even though I don't know any of the players in this game - I've been playing in non stop. Go to FYE!! NOW!!!

That's why they made the whole YMMV thing, if you aren't interested in YMMV deals, don't read them, and then don't waste your time posting about them, your precious time that's just wasted by other people's deals just because they don't concern you...

I haven had a chance to look through all the posts but Im going to clarify this if anyone else has not.

I am a part time worker at a local FYE

THIS IS NOT 50% OFF ALL GAMES, not even a YMMV 50% OFF ALL GAMES

We had 300 stores close over the last 3 months and any stores that are getting games from the closing stores are allowed to put ONLY the PS2,PSP,GAMECUBE,XB,360, and GBA games they received in a CLEARLY SIGNED 50% off dump. Used games are also applicable. Not all stores have this but your best bet is to find out where the nearest store to one of the ones thats closed is. Once again Im sorry if this was already stated.

Yeah there were a lot of good games. If I had more money I'd have gotten Gears of War and Halo 3. I went with Bioshock, Crackdown, Mega Man Anniversary, Mega Man X Collection, Front Mission 4, and a few other cheap games for birthday presents.

They most likely are, I just received 4 more huge boxes from non closing stores as well. Fye is conforming some regions to not having all game stores as well, that coupled with the fact that they probably, like our store, have a bulk of it in the back room, you should see new product replenished in the section almost every week.

I know this is off topic sort of, but why are they continuing to take video game trade ins? In fact, the one I went to is even offering an extra 20% on all trade ins, including video games.

When I look at my Profits and Loss' Charts, USED anything is about 23% of my overall business, + we have a huge online used business where the its like 55% new 45% used sales. I ship out about 5-6 boxes of used to warehouses a week.

Well yeah, I realize that. I used to work at a video game store. I was just wondering why they still took trade ins if the stores weren't going to carry video games anymore. Are they still selling them on the website? That makes sense if thats the case.

Online seems to be the most accurate answer,Also stores who take in used games are able to transfer them to game stores, so taken in trade-ins arent missed at an all CD or DVD fye. I get transfers from the FYE movies all the time.

I went back to my local FYE today to pick up that copy of Halo 3: Limited Edition since I figured I wouldn't be able to find it for cheaper than $35 for awhile anyway. Well it turns out they had several copies in the back, as well as one Legendary Edition for $50 after the discount. I went ahead and bought the Limited one, but I have yet to open it.

Can anyone tell me if the extras in the Legendary Edition are worth $15 over the Limited Edition?

The local FYE in Great Nortern Mall in North Olmsted was very lame. They had perhaps maybe 10 Xbox 360 games - I think it was mostly Phantasy Star Universe, Lord of the Rings: BFME II, MLB 06, Madden 06, a couple Soccer games, and one copy of Halo 3. I considered picking up Halo 3 to trade in, but passed. No accessories were there outside of component cables for $15. Save your time.
