not that big a deal. he is over 40 and playing for the worst team in the AL, I'd retire while I still had some credibility left if I were him too.

It's not that big of a deal, he didn't play that much and he's a DH that can't play any positions. He's one of my favorite players and it's nice to see he's going out now instead of dragging it out.

And why would that be? Seattle has a big fan base, a great field thats only about 5 years old, and a competitive team. They may not be competitive this year but usually for the most part they are, and they were never a team considered for contration in the 1st place. If you want a team in Las Vegas I'd look for the Devil Rays or the Marlins.

the mariners. The ownership appears to be taking the team on purpose to sell them. The refused to help them win, and as soon as the attendence starts falling below a profitable level (its all they give a shaq fu about) theyll get up and sell the the team to some investment banker who will move the team to vegas prolly in the next 3 years.

Being a lifelong Mariner fan (I'm originally from Seattle), it's sad to see Edgar finally calling it quits. He had many great years there.

As for the Mariners moving to Vegas, yeah right. It's true they have a worthless owner who only cares about making money, but he will continue to do so. Seattle loves their baseball team and even now when they are stinking they are still drawing a lot of attendance. As long as fans come the Mariners will remain in Seattle, and Seattle has supported some pretty lousy Mariners teams in the past.

Seems unlikely that the Mariners will move, at least in the short term.

They were a losing prospect back in 92-93 when Yamauchi (former head of Nintendo) formed the ownership group that took them over.

The ton of money they've spent on players and building Safeco Field I think shows that they're still committed to the Puget Sound area. Not to mention Yama's legendary bull-headedness.

Wait, did I miss the M's being sold??

Guess I've been on the East Coast too long now. All I ever end up hearing about are the damned Red Sox vs. Yankees.

And cheers to Edgar for retiring when he can. Can't play the game forever, even as much as I know some people want too.

the point im trying to make is, with current ownership, id seriously expect the attedence to take a decline and cause the team to be sold in the future. and in these days in baseball, every owner who buys a team either wants to move the team, or change its name.

could be 3 years, could be 5 years, could be 10.

as for commitment, ask the state of minnesota about building new hockey arenas and abandoning them after a year.

Huh? All of the hockey arenas here have been used as far as I know. I'm pretty sure the North Stars used theirs for like 30 years or something until they moved, Xcel has not been abandonded, and Mariucchi as well as not been abandonded. Either way tht was a totally random post

Wow, sucks for the Mariners. It's hard to swallow the fact they went from tying the major league record in wins and going to one of the worst in just a few seasons.

Seattle was my favorite team back in the day when Edgar, Griffey, A Rod, and the Big Unit played there. Now that was a baseball team.

Even with all them, they weren't too great, having their seasons hug the .500 percentile. It was only after Griffey, Rodriguez, and Johnson were traded when they started getting good. Sort of hard to believe.
