View Full Version : What should I do? Xbox360 finally RRoD'ed.

I purchased an Xbox360 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160193028404) on December 31st. The seller shipped it late, and even used the wrong shipping method. Anyhow, that aside, it finally arrived on my door on January 11th. Upon opening, it was extremely dirty. The controller was grimy, and I spent at least an hour cleaning the system and controller. When I booted up the Xbox360, I found Amped 3 in the Disc Drive. The seller stated that this item was in great condition and it was working properly. However, a few minutes after booting the Xbox360, I noticed that the Disc Drive would not open vertically -- it only opens when you set the 360 horizontally. Moreover, after a few days, I noticed that it also has the "Dirty Disc" error. This means that even though the game isn't dirty, it will sometimes stop running it and you have to re-boot the game. It also RRoD'ed on me twice but it wasn't that much of an issue because it didn't happen for a long time (like a week or two later). Now, the RRoD issue has finally popped back up. Today when I tried to play CoD4, the screen suddenly turned brown. Confused, I turned off the 360 and turned it back on and I saw the three Red Rings. Thus, I turned it off and waited a few seconds and then turned it on again. Once again, it RRoD'ed. So, I turned it off again and waited more. I booted it up a third time, and I got to the dashboard. I loaded up CoD4 again and got online and played a match. A few minutes later, it RRoD'ed on me.

Thus, I have a choice to make. I am assuming I am eligible with the RRoD Warranty from Microsoft. However, the seller DID sell me a shit 360. The thing is that I think since I paid by Paypal, my item is only covered up to $200. I paid $275 for my 360. Thus, if I disputed, I would lose $75. Or, if I sent it to Microsoft, I would have to wait a month and get refurbished one back. Any ideas on what I should do? I already told the seller the problems with the 360, but he said that "apparently" the 360 must have "broken" in the mail, and he isn't going to pay for it. Which is total bullshit. He positive rated me and I negative rated him already. I could try to call the seller too since he isn't responding to my messages anymore. Also, I think I lost Amped 3. I can't find it anymore. :P

I think you should have bought a new one to start with, but I made the same mistake you did getting one off ebay. You might as well send it to microsoft.

Microsoft is probably the way to go, assuming you can indeed send in a used 360. I don't really know their rules for the RRod's, since my console has never done that.

Damn, shipping it with a disc in the drive might have killed it right there. :-( I try not to carry mine up the freaking stairs with a disc in the drive.

You could try a PayPal dispute but if they won't refund your full purchase amount (and since the seller doesn't seem willing to refund you on his own) I'd probably go to MS.

If you paid with a CC through Paypal you could try disputing with them and skip PayPal. That would get you the full amount back assuming they grant the claim.

That neg raped his FB. Not that he doesn't deserve it.

My X-Box 360 died about a month ago as well with the ring of red lights. Your warranty covers the first year but the red ring is such a frequent occurrence that if you register the system on their site, its covered for 3 years. They'll ship you the box for you to send it back and it won't cost you a thing except about 2 weeks of lost game time. They shipped out the new system within 1 day of receiving it.

Sorry that you were sold a bad system. I always make sure everything is cleaned and in proper working order when selling any used system on ebay. I usually email them to make sure everything is fine with the shipment because items can get damaged in the mail, even though we know this wasn't the case.

My bro bought it and ended up not paying for it. Sigh, it was only like $12 too. :D

When you send in your xbox for "repairs" they just ship you a refurb right?

most likely, but I guess they could repair it, its probably quicker for them to take in a broken one, ship out a newly refurbed, and then refurb your xbox and send that out to someone else

They sent me a new one. Their site says they'll try to repair it first and then have it sent back to you. Even the letter says they "repaired" my 360 but they just sent me a brand new system. Their pretty fast and I'm amazed that I didn't have to pay anything even though my warranty was over.

Thats a damn good job if its a refurbished. It looks pretty new and clean to me. *shrugs*

Call MS and pray that it's still under warranty and that it can be put under your name. I have no idea what their policy for second hand 360's. Good luck!

Well,

I went online and registered the 360 with its Serial Number. I put my name and address also. I requested a repair online and I think it'll be sent to my address. We shall see.

Thats what I did so you should be getting an empty box in the mail in about a week. Just follow the instructions and you should have your 360 back and in great condition in no time. =)

Also, do you have to return the 360 with its original Faceplate? All I have is the GoW Faceplate, and it's pretty much broken. Is it alright if I hand it in without the faceplate?

Just an update: Seller actually sent me a "CORE" Console. Not a premium. The Console did come with the 20GB HD though. Anyhow, I disputed his ass and he escalated to PP as well as giving me option to accept $100 Refund. If I accept the refund, do I have to send the 360 back to him? If not, that means I'd only have paid $175 for it.

Isn't a core w/ 20 hd called a premium?

No he bought a core, then the HDD seperate. It is obviously a core because of the white disk tray.

I would say just to call Microsoft and get yours repaired and/or get a refurb one back from them since your seller may not want to be cooperative. I had to send mine in and I think about the only information you have to provide is the serial number.

Chrono, just come to me next time you have ebay problems, I fix everyone's.

no, if he is offering a partial refund for his stupidity and him lieing about the product, then no.

Hes offering that to avoid a paypal claim (which hed lose). You can take the 100 and be okay with him. (im assuming hell ask to withdraw the feedback so hes back at 100 percent)

Take the 100 back from paypal hes offering, send in the 360 (dont send in the faceplate with gears on it, youll lose it) Send in the original face plate (if it didnt come with it, then just send the gears, the gears one looks stupid anyways). Register for the shipping box, and send it to microsoft, Hopefully they wont repair it and just send a new one out to you.

Best of luck. The seller is a deuschebag though for doing it to you -_-

Yeah. Here's what my plan will be, because even though I can win the Paypal Dispute, $175 for an Xbox360 isn't half bad a deal. I already requested the Box/Coffin a few days ago, and I get 10 days until the Partial Refund is canceled. So.. I'm going to wait until I get the box and then send the 360 out and accept the partial refund. Since the GoW Faceplate is half broken anyway (and I got a new one from JJSP -- Hotrod Faceplate), I don't need the GoW one anymore. Thanks Ice for the helpful tips.
