I don't know if a cheap one even exists, but I am really sick of 56k. I know if you sign up for RoadRunner you get 6 months for 30 bucks, but i was wondering if there was something else. thanks

SBC Yahoo is cheap if you lock in the 12-month deal.

Depends on who offers service in your area.
I just left roadrunner to sign up for WOW (wide open west) cable and internet. Better speeds, better channels for a lower price.

I get SBC Yahoo, 1 year contract 27 bucks a month, i get good speeds too!
Your download speed : 1291298 bps, or 1261 kbps.
A 157.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 215536 bps, or 210 kbps.
But depending on where you live it could greatly vary, but the price would be the same, and any dsl would be faster than 56k

ya, you can get DSL or Cable. Just gotta look at who has the better deal. 384K is fast enough for online gaming.

I get Comcast for About $40 a month, and I get well over 2.0 MBPS

Well, first you have to check if your phone line is eligible for DSL. You have to be a certain distance from a phone hub. Most websites for DSL providers have an online check.
I wasn't able to get DSL so I got Road Runner. Nice thing about RR is you don't have to sign a contract, free installation, free modem.

I have the SBC $27 per month deal, and highly recomend it. I regularly get 150 kB/s, and was able to register without a Windows or MacOS box. The modem was free too, and they have yet to complain about any 'questionable' activities happening on my pipe.

I got MSN DSL for $25 a month. Pretty fast too, not as good as my cable I used to have, but way better than 56k and a hell of a lot cheaper than cable was (around $59.99 a month here)

Wait let me get this right. You have a 1 year contract with SBC and it's $27 a month and NOT a 768 Kbps./120 Kbps. connection? Now I'm pissed off to no end.
Looks like I'm gonna have to have SBC called and bite their heads off.
Just curious but where are you at Metal?

The question I have to ask is how much SBC-Yahoo after the year long promotion is over? Is it $50?

Yeah, its not a 768 connection, I moved and they said I was going into an area that got 384, I was pretty bummed, but sure enough we get great speed. I'm in Davis, California... 20 miles West of Sacramento.

They let you sign another 12 month contract at $27 a month again. This might be YMMV though.

A lot of DSL providers are now upgrading upload speeds as a further enticement. My SBC DSL recently went from 128k to 256k for uploads.

I'm on Verizon DSL 1.5MB Down/ 138KB Up (thats about a 150-180 KBPS download transfer rate, and about 17kbps upload transfer rate) Right now they have a deal where the first month is free 2nd and 3rd is 30, after that its just 5 bucks more 34.95. I haven't had any issues with Verizon DSL. It hasn't gone down on me in over a year and also has been at that constant speed for as long as i've had it (a little over 2 years).

i called alltel yesterday cause they do the phone service for my apt area...they told me 29.95 a month for the first year and after that it goes back to the regular price of 49.95...i think i'm gonna go with them and just cancel after the first year is done
