View Full Version : Contest (CAG Foreplay #31): Win Phoenix Wright: Trials & Tribulations
shipwreck
02-06-2008, 09:30 AM
As detailed in CAG Foreplay Podcast #31, CAG terpkristin was kind enough to donate a brand new copy of Phoenix Wright: Trials & Tribulations for the Nintendo DS.
Listen to the show for details on how to win (or just copy the trend that you see forming of those that actually listened)! Winner will be announced on the next CAG Foreplay.
Good luck everyone and thanks again, terpkristin!

Lindsey McDonald (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindsey_McDonald) from Angel.
Hopefully not putting any spoilers in, I like the fact that he was literally an evil lawyer. Also, his story in the last season is a nice counterpoint to the Bad-Guy-Is-Now-Good-Because-He-Said-He-Is cliche.

Without a doubt, Lionel Hutz.
Why? Well he's a ridiculously funny character and was voiced by one of my favorite comedians.
Perry Mason (because Raymond Burr was an obese, smoking Stanford graduate).

She Hulk is my favorite.
Because not only is the character funny (current comic is has some great funny scenes in it) but she can also punch a whole through a wall and can go toe to toe with the Hulk in a fist fight

Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. His name is bad ass, and above all he is the greatest lawyer ever.
And tied for First. Cliff McCormack of Veronica Mars fame....'cause he is funny and from one of the greatest t.v. shows ever.
Hyperchicken. He's a giant blue chicken, son!

Best fictional lawyer:
Frito (like the chips) from Idiocracy (2006)
Best quote "Go away 'baitin!"
Lionel Hutz is a great answer, but I'm going to go with Vincent ‘Vinny’ LaGuardia Gambini from "My Cousin Vinny". I probably wouldn't like that movie now, but it was pretty funny when I saw it.

 +5 points for mentioning Matlock and his theme.
For me I'd probably pick the Birdman, I never watched the show until this past weekend after playing through the Wii game. Entertaining stuff.

I'm going to go with Jackie DiNorscio from the movie Find Me Guilty (played by Vin Diesel with hair!). He represents himself in court, and the movie is based on a real story, but I'm sure that counts, lol. Anyways, he tells the most inappropriate jokes and stories during the court. It's a pretty good movie, and I don't say that often (probably because I don't watch movies often, lol).

Easily Ben Matlock from Matlock. That show is amazing, and I continue to watch it whenever I get a chance!
Why I like him. He has a soft heart, honest good ole southern boy, and he loves his hotdogs. Plus being 60 years old, he continues to love his job, and is sneakier than ever when catching criminals and sly as a fox. Oh yeah, and as much as he is proper and by the book, he always wears that grey suit! Silver Fox FTW!

Favorite Fictional Lawyer: Jack Thompson
A great lawyer, or the GREATEST lawyer?
Born from humble beginnings in 1951, Jack Thompson was a young child destined for great things. He first grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and later attended Eric Zoolander's Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good. He first became a media attention whore when he hosted his own political talk show on the college radio station during a gay parade. He went to law school at Vanderbilt University, where he met his life partner, Pat.
In 1976 they moved to Florida, where Thompson, working as a lawyer and then a fundraiser for a Nazi ministry, began attending the Kanye West Presbyterian Church as born-again Muppet, going so far as to re-enter and exit the womb of his mother, Papa Smurf. Thompson admits to having a “colorful disciplinary history” as an attorney, particularly a few select incidents involving "black peoples".
Below is a short clip from the young hero's past, a most pivotal stage in the Mr. Thompson's life. When destiny reached down from the Heaven's and graced his soul with a bright future in the porn industry.
http://webnv.net/images/blog/Image/Jack_Thompson.jpg
And that is why, my hero Jack Thompson, who once inserted into the ass of Harrison Ford, will simultaneously solve the Iraq War, balance the National Budget, and cure Dandruff.
Only he is a hero worthy of the praise earned by "Favorite Fictional Lawyer"

Denny Crane--c'mon, the guy has alzheimer's and he's never lost a case. Plus he gets to bang midgets... er "little people" in his office. I mean, who can't admire that? Did I mention that he had sex in the coat check room with one of the waitresses at his own wedding reception? AND he didn't get taken to the cleaner's in the subsequent inevitable divorce. After all, she did give him permission to stray.
Boy, I hope Mrs. Shipwreck isn't picking the winners to this contest. I'd lose in a heartbeat.
Something tells me that my post won't be getting read on CAGforeplay no matter what happens...:)
Only because Lionel Hutz was already taken ...
Theodore Buckland Esq., aka Ted from Scrubs.

I choose Ainsley Hayes(played by Emily Procter), White House Associate Counsel(later Deputy Counsel) on "The West Wing".
I liked her because:
ONE, she was a brilliant, talented, and sexy conservative with top credentials, and...
B) I always like stories that include mythological characters(and really, how much more mythological can you get than a conservative who's brilliant, talented and sexy?).

I first thought of the hyperchicken from Futurama (which had been previously mentioned) but then I decided to go historical with Clarence Darrow not only because he was defense counsel for the Scopes "monkey trial" and but also because he delivered a twelve-hour closing argument (Leopold & Loeb) to successfully save his obviously guilty clients from the death penalty.

Vinny Gambini. ..from My Cousin Vinny...can you possibly get a better cast in a movie?
Vinny, "Your Honor, may I have permission to treat Ms. Vito as a hostile witness?"
Ms Vito, "You think I'm hostile now, wait 'til you see me tonight."
Judge, "Do you two know each other?"
Vinny, "Yeah, she's my fiancée."
Judge, "Well, that would certainly explain the hostility."

I'm gonna go with Perry Masonary from the Flintstones. Obviously a ploy on Perry Mason. Perry Masonary was the lawyer hired by the rich folks to keep Bam Bam from being adopted by a childless Barney and Betty Rubble (fortunately the rich couple found out they were expecting and recinded the decision in their favor).

While Johnnie Cochran is definitely not fictional, his appearance on South Park prosecuting and then defending Chef over "Stinky Britches" with the famed "Chewbacca Defense" was an instant classic.
Transcript:
Ladies and gentlemen of the supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider: (pulling down a diagram of Chewie) this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now, think about that. That does not make sense! (jury looks shocked)
Why would a Wookiee -- an eight foot tall Wookiee -- want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense!
But more importantly, you have to ask yourself: what does that have to do with this case? (calmly) Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense!
Look at me, I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca. Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense. None of this makes sense.
And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberating and conjugating the Emancipation Proclamation... does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense.
If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.
Later in that same episode, Cochran has a change of heart and defends Chef when Chef sues the record company. Again, he uses the Chewbacca Defense, although with some minor changes:
Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, you must now decided whether to reverse the decision for my client Chef. I know he seems guilty, but ladies and gentlemen... (pulling down a diagram of Chewbacca) This is Chewbacca. Now think about that for one moment -- that does not make sense. Why am I talking about Chewbacca when a man's life is on the line? Why? I'll tell you why: I don't know.
It does not make sense. If Chewbacca does not make sense, you must acquit!
(pulling a monkey out of his pocket) Here, look at the monkey. Look at the silly monkey! (one of the juror's heads explodes)
Eventually, Chef wins the case and all is well.

As much as I'd love to be all smart and choose some obscure lawyer character, you really can't do any better than Phoenix Wright himself. If you've played it, you already know why anyone would choose him. If not... well, there shouldn't be anyone reading this who hasn't.
