Because of the recent release of the BF2142 Deluxe edition and because I've seen a bunch of CAGs mention that they've started playing (and because the game is still incredible after all this time and all the bugs), I wanted to start up some organized times when we can all hop onto the same server, squad up, and shoot some dudes.
If you're interested, post back with your info. Lately I've been playing Titan mode exclusively, and pretty late at night during the week/weekends. I know that could be an issue for a lot of people, so tell me what works for you and we'll figure out when we can all get together.
If you're new and have questions or just want to talk about the game here, that's cool, too.

Yarg!
I shall add you to the buddy list!
Working my way to Warrant Officer Silver right now.
Looking at my stats a sec ago and it seems like the Voss is cursed for me. Every time I pick it off another dead guy it seems I always die with it. Right now it essentially has 3 times the death rate more then any other gun I use and I hadn't even unlocked it yet! :-#
I just unlocked it a second ago and hopefully I can learn to use it better...

I'm still on Battlefield 2 because I couldn't justify $50 for 2142.
Has 2142 dropped in price?
Where can I get it for cheap?

CC has it for 10 bucks.

I got it at CC for $10 and don't like it so far. I supposedly had 20 ping but it was really laggy. Combine that with the fact that I had no clue what I was supposed to be doing and that's probably why I didn't like it.
I'll post my username if I remember it.

I use to play the hell out of this game when I got it..
However ever since I switched to verizon FIOS, I have been having quite a few connection problems :(
Load times are so so....
A LOT better than the load times for Battlefield 2, which was HORRIBLE!! It was a turn off for me.

If I can find my instruction booklet CD code, I'll install this back on my system. I just built a new system and would like to see how BF2142 plays (used to play this game a ton before TF2 came out). I'll post back my info if I can find everything.

The death rate in your stats is the number of times you've been killed by someone using the Voss. The 3x sounds about right because the Voss is definitely the most popular weapon in the game. I think it's actually pretty unbalanced -- a ton of my Voss kills/deaths seem like lucky shots.

The deluxe edition (includes the Northern Strike expansion) is out now for $30. You should be able to find the regular edition for $20, or at CC for $10 as people have been saying.

If you're new to the series, there's definitely more of a learning curve compared to most FPS games. I recommend playing as medic/support and just following people around until you get a feel for it.

Hey guys. I know I've been really bad about getting this going (REALLY bad!), but my squad and I are planning to play some titan this weekend so it would be a good opportunity to get a group together. If you've posted your soldier name, I'll add you this evening.
We'll probably start between 9-10 PM Pacific tonight. If that doesn't work for you, let me know when you'd be free this weekend because I'm sure we'll be around.

Well, this was definitely unexpected: In the latest Battlefield newsletter, DICE dropped some news that they're developing patch 1.5, which adds real widescreen support, a no-vehicles option, and reinstates some limited control over dropship pods. Oh yeah, and two new maps, one of which is WAKE ISLAND.
2142 died down with me a few months ago, but this will definitely bring me back. I figured DICE was done with the game after 1.4 (in fact I was surprised that even came out of beta), so a new update is amazing news, especially when it includes one of the greatest Battlefield maps.
Full news post (http://www.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield/bf/battlefieldnewsdetail.aspx?site_id=B8KOM4UD-5RHY-7JEIWHPH&storyid=22342&sourceid=ea1724):
[Battlefield 2142] Q&A covering the upcoming Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50
Q. What new content will we see in Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50?
A. As well as a number of bug fixes and tweaks based on community feedback we are going to be releasing two new maps created by community members. Wake Island makes its return to Battlefield PC thanks to the guys at Sir. Community and a map which you may have heard of called Anzio will be appearing with a name change as Operation Shingle created by Jason Brice. We are also bringing a No Vehicles option to a number of 2142 maps for those players who want to fight it out on foot as well as allowing you to access 16:9 and 16:10 resolutions for those widescreen monitors. We also heard your cries for movement in pods to be re-introduced on transport ship escape pods so we have been working on giving that back to you while still limiting pod surfing use.
Q. How did you select the community maps to include in Update 1.50?
A. Both maps we decided to include in Update 1.50 were selected from a wide choice of maps that are out there in the community, it was felt they brought something new to Battlefield 2142 and although some of you will have seen them before in previous forms, they have now been updated and are new maps to Battlefield 2142. Both groups have worked closely with DICE Live and have gone through extensive testing to get the best balance and Battlefield experience from the maps. Wake Island 2142 also holds a little twist to the way Conquest game mode is usually played so watch out for that.
Q. When will Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50 be released?
A. Update 1.50 will be released for public beta in the not too distant future and is there to get your feedback as well as run checks on server stability. Visit www.battlefield.com (http://www.battlefield.com/) for more announcements regarding the beta and launch and leave your feedback on the forums.

Best part of that news is the new support for widescreen aspect ratios; I won't have to use the widescreen fixer utility any more.
I hope they could add the same too for BF2.

Awesome. Wake Island is the only BF2 map I enjoy...if you can call it a BF2 map.
Now all we need is Midway 2142 replete with surface ships and subs :)

The beta patch is out now!
http://www.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield/bf/battlefieldnewsdetail.aspx?site_id=B8KOM4UD-5RHY-7JEIWHPH&storyid=22788
Starting today you can be part of the Beta phase of Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50. Update 1.50 is a big step for Battlefield as it is the first time we have included community created maps and included them into an update. Wake Island makes a come back thanks to The Sir. Community and appears alongside a brand new map new to Battlefield created by Jason Brice, Operation Shingle. Also, for those who prefer to fight on foot, we have added a No Vehicle option to a number of maps to allow you to fight without worrying if you’ll come face to face with a Battle Walker. Also, as requested by match broadcasting groups we have separated the Commanders voice volume from the Sound Effects so you can keep the explosions and gun fire without the Commander interrupting the broadcast.
FEATURES
- Added community maps, Wake Island 2142 and Operation Shingle
- Added the ability to use widescreen resolutions.
- Added No Vehicles mode.
- Added Conquest Assault mode.
- Changed the volume control for the Commander Voice Over on request of the esports community.
- Changes made to pod steering mechanism to improve control while limiting pod surfing.
FIXES
- Fixed the loading issue caused by corrupt Radial.cdb file
- Various changes made to prevent cheating.
:bouncy:
Although I expected a little tiny bit more in the update, the new maps and widescreen support is a huge, huge welcome.
I wonder what the new "Conquest assault" mode is and how it changes the objective.

Wow, that was faster than I expected. Can't wait to get home and go back to Wake Island.
I'm also confused about the Conquest Assault thing. I thought 2142's Conquest was already Conquest Assault, as opposed to Conquest Double Assault, where either faction's home base could be captured. Or maybe I'm just making stuff up.
Edit: Did anyone watch the trailer? Enemy forces landing on the flight deck! :hot: Madness!

So far from playing the very limited amount of US servers...
-Conquest Assault gives one side a Titan while the other has to defend with bases (on wake at least)
-EA didn't included new localization files in the beta patch, all the new modes/maps are missing their description and cap point text.
-The game now supports "widescreen" resolution but is maxed out at 1280x960 (?) or somthing. If you are playing on something higher like 1680x1050 you will still need to add commands to the shortcut.

Does it seem like the servers are "very limited" because the patch is in beta, or has the total number of 2142 servers dropped off that much? I haven't been on in a few months. I may have to check which version my favorite servers are running (or if they're even still around) before I try the patch.
Also, does Wake get Titan mode as well, or just Conquest Assault?

No, the beta servers are very limited right now.
On last check...
There approximately currently ~1,500 servers with ~5,100 active players.

:EDIT:
Oh wow Shingle is frame lag from hell or something else. Whenever I spawn at the EU uncap and look towards the PAC bases it pretty much drops to 1-2 frames per second.

Patch 1.50 final is out today! Grab it here: http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/patches/BF2142/1.50/
I didn't play the beta much due to lack of servers, but I did explore the maps a bit. Seemed a little like a bizarro-Wake and I'm wondering how similar it will be to the BF2 version once there are a lot of people on it. I do wish they had brightened up the colors a bit. The future sure is bleak.
I'll probably be on this weekend with my squad.

Bought this back in January for $10 but have yet to install it. BF2 left such a bad taste in my mouth that I've been reluctant to play another BF...
And based on the 2142 demo and the ET:QW demo, future combat games kinda stuck. They're just too complicated and drab for me.

This was the first BF game that I played thanks to long stints with Everquest and WoW. I really enjoyed 2142 when I was playing it heavily. I got busy with RL stuff and stopped playing it. Then I got my 360 and it's been downhill since there. I did play regularly with a clan of adults and we had our own server, so that made it a bit more enjoyable than playing with random folks. We also had our own teamspeak server that we used while playing.
I haven't installed it on my machine since my last fresh install of windows though.
I agree though, I wasn't very impressed with ET:QW though.

Still pisses me off that they haven't given me the option to ditch the Best Buy preorder rifle.
