I want to buy the new Cobalt DS Lite from Best Buy. I just sold my old DS Lite, just so you know. Well, I tried calling them, and believe it or not, they had no answer. I looked on the website too.

So what are the DS Lite warranty options at Best Buy? And is it true Best Buy is best with warranties?

Best Buy is great with their Product Replacement Plans, since I've used them on at least 2 PS2's and an XBox already. Most times, all they do(if the item is in stock) is say to 'go get another one' and then they do the whole process and you're out within 20 minutes usually.

Of course, that's just the PRP, since all it does is get you a new version of the item you bought it for. If it's NOT in stock though(like the original Xbox when I went to cash in my PRP back in early November of 2007), then they give you the original MSRP you paid on a gift card in store credit to do with as you please.

I've heard of many using the PRP to get newer, less problematic versions of consoles before(namely the 360) with little to nothing out of pocket and the only thing they had to do was pay for another PRP to be covered for another two years.

For an item around $130 or so, I think the PRP would only cost about $20 and it's WELL WORTH IT.

Well, a quick check of bestbuy.com shows that it is indeed $19.99 for a 2 year PRP.

Not here, the teenage cashiers they have at the front desk at night are like 'whatever' and just tell me to go get another of whatever I'm taking back to them while they figure out how to do the PRP cash-in procedure.

Never had any problems either. Used the PRP with three Xbox 360s and an MP3 player no problem. Even came out ahead with my last 360. It was an Elite and they did not have any in-stock so they gave me a gift card for what I paid. Because of the price drop I came out ahead.

Personally I would skip the warranty with such an item that's not expensive (under 200). Nintendo has some of the best customer support I have ever dealt with. Heck last year when my hinge on my DS FAT cracked, I thought I was screwed because 1, it was an original first run FAT (with MP:H demo), and 2 I bought it from the Sam Goody close out so there was no way I could exchange it. I thought it would be worse if they said "We only cover the DS lite now" since I read the Hinge problem was on the lite than the fat. However a registration of my product and followed the online procedures with a follow up call to Nintendo pretty much assured me that I was under their warranty for the hinge problem. Sent it in 1 week, got it back the next week. Free of charge :)

They even unstuck my touch screen center pixel!! :)

See though, even if it were a $50 item(covered by a $5 PRP), I'll always get the PRP because you never know when shit will happen and IF the company will be nice(like you said Nintendo was). Plus, if forced with the choice of paying shipping AND repair costs or a fraction of that total, I'd rather pay the $20 for the PRP.

I also know from my own personal experience and from the experiences some of my friends have had, that Sony are a bunch of money grubbers who don't stand behind shit they make and sell. Before the period when Sony was basically forced to do PS2 repairs for free and ever since that period ended, it costs $45 to swap out a faulty PS2 or $75 for one of their tech monkeys(my one friend kept sending back their PS2, which was never repaired right) to 'repair' your PS2 PLUS the cost of shipping.

So, in that respect, Nintendo is a rarity in this electronic world, since few companies seem to stand behind their stuff unless they're FORCED to. Plus, as I said before, it's like getting a new item every couple years, only without paying the full cost.

You know you got a point here. He did sell his old DS lite and now rebuying it for the new color. Might as well then as it's only a matter of time before he gets bored with the new color , some new color comes out, something happens to the DS and he just goes back to BB and get the new color.

What can I say? I've had my DS Lite since 1 day before the Japanese launch. It's getting stale and annoying being the only one having this color. And the Cobalt one looks much better.

I dunno, I still like my tank (da fatty) covered in a gameshark case protecting the two screens and most of the ds. The case has gotten really dirty lately so I got to figure out how to clean it. Until this one breaks, gets stolen... I am keeping it as long as I can.

I got the PRP from BB once. It was for a circa-launch PS2, so eventually, it got the DREs. I took it back to BB, got the original MSRP, and walked out with my new PS2 and two new games. Victory.

every best buy i've ever gone to has craped on me when i've bought a warranty blaming me for breaking or abusing the item (which i never did) and then they refuse to honor the warranty....

their computer warrantys are the absolute worst though... had 1 month left on the warrenty on a desk top... they fixed it and then HELD it for the remander of the month incase it broke again so i would be out of warranty... when they finally let the pc be picked up the paperwork that came with it indicated that it had been repaird 3 weeks earlier but it said not to call until the date the warranty was up

the second time i brought in a lap top where the sound board had gone 2 months before the warranty was up... they claimed a softwear issue (alreayd did a fresh install, update drives, etc and nothing worked) and refused to even look at it because the warranty doesn't cover softwear issues... so i just put in with it until i could afford a new lap top

havn't bought a warrenty from best buy since and never will again.
