Features

ARMY OF TWO™ takes the buddy system to the next level. You are a soldier in a two-man squad, and all gameplay centers around two-man missions, two-man strategies, and the fact that two heads are sometimes better than one. Your two-man outfit is composed of ex-Army Rangers now working for a Private Military Corporation (PMC). And your task is to work hand in hand with your partner to form the deadliest Army of Two on the planet. Your teammate may be A.I., or transfer online and play live with a friend. When one man is not enough, it's going to take an Army of Two to save us.

Two-man gameplay: Co-op isn't just a mode, it's the whole game. Work with your teammate to develop two-man strategies, and use that advantage to eliminate enemies.
Intelligent partner A.I.: Partner A.I. (PAI) has been developed to work with the way the gamer actually plays the game, taking the lead when it needs to do so, or dropping back in support at other times.
Customization: Weapons are upgradeable and customizable, and of course, can be shared with your partner.
Online play: Move seamlessly between play with computer partner A.I. to a real life partner. Don't think alone, think like you're in an Army of Two!----------------------------------------

From what I have heard, this game is not living up to the hype at all. From what I have seen, I think that is a safe bet that it will be average.

mvp828
02-16-2008, 08:41 AM
Yea, it is hard to say, but I think it will be worth a good $40 or so. The only problem is that it will take awhile to get there being an EA game that isn't sports (i.e. The Godfather). The co-op will be a good selling point for many though.

Gamespot previewed this on On the Spot yesterday:

http://www.gamespot.com/shows/on-the-spot/?autoplay=6186929&tag=topslot;link;1&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot

Will probably rent this when it comes out later this week and beat it with a friend on co-op. I love playing through story modes on co-op. Hopefully this one is better then the last one we beat...Kane and Lynch.

I just watched gametrailers preview and looks awesome. Complete 180 from what I'd expect. One question, Is there online-coop for the campaign? If there isn't than this is a complete pass.

Norwegian game- magazine called Gamereactor. Anyways, it scored a 8/10. Got lots of good comments including good graphics and sound, and fairly innovative gameplay. And apparently it kicked ass when playing with a friend.

Now, my biggest gripe with the game, is that they claimed the game was next to useless when playing alone in singleplayer. Now that doesn't sound good to me. I mean, online is cool, but I often like to just kick back and play alone. They didn't say if you were able to use all the different abilities when playing alone, but they pretty much said the game fell flat on its stomach in singleplayer without explaining why. This is an ideal candidate for Gamefly. Short Game with little to no replay value for Multiplayer. I'm sure the Co-Op will be amazing. But overall it will be just average. Gamefly it. Go create an account just for this. It's like $10 or something.

I preordered this game for my brother who lives out of state as a Christmas present. I really hope it does indeed come out tomorrow so we can start popping some heads after I get off work. As far as being an EA shooter - yeah, I have my doubts. Still, a Gears clone with interesting suppression/stealth mechanics and its entire design focused around cooperative gameplay is practically a godsend (especially since we can play over Live). I will throw money at this concept in any iteration for the rest of eternity. Please make more online co-op games!

Yep, GameCrazy stores intercepted the shipment instead of going through FedEx. Isn't that ironic? Everyone says GC workers are the laziest of the bunch, yet we got it quicker than the big name guys. TIGER UPPERCUT!

There were so many people calling and saying how much Gamestop sucks and blah blah blah. It was funny. We only got about 40 in, 25 of which were preordered.. the extras sold through quick. I hadn't planned on buying it, but after I saw someone playing it in-store, I had to get it.

How is the partner AI and AI in general? The reviews I read said the Partner AI is kinda crappy, but it's a lot better if you are playing coop with another human player.

Scorch
03-04-2008, 07:31 PM
I guess I should post why I dig the game:

Weapon customization. Holy balls. Silencers, shields, you can even pimp it out (Golden Gun, anyone?)

Team celebration taunts. I think it's pretty cool, at least. Walk up to your teammate and hit A and they'll congratulate each other. Could be a handshake, could be a high five.. I've even seen them play air guitar. Hit the right trigger to abuse your teammate.

Co-op Snipe. Simple enough.. trigger the mode, you focus on one target, your teammate focuses on another.

Back-To-Back. The BTB mode is pretty badass. When you're surrounded, they go back to back and it turns into a slow motion shootout.

Aggro. Whoever has the biggest gun/is shooting more becomes the sole target of enemies, giving the other person a chance to sneak around and do whatever. Of course, if you cross in front of enemies, they'll shoot at you, but if you steer clear, you're fine.

Switching weapons with teammates, using car doors as shields.. it's a lot of fun. I can see myself playing this for a while co-op. I love the mercenaries type feel to it. It's cool how you can get paid (or not paid) to do certain things.. for example, blow up a helicopter, make $3500. If you don't, you lose the chance. You can also buy new armor and facemasks. I'm assuming there's an unlockable skull mask or something.

The partner AI isn't bad. He shoots who he needs to and heals you when he needs to.. except once, when I was down.. he tried to drag me to cover and got blindsided by a rocket. :dunce:

Seems like mixed reviews on this one, alot of people love it, and alot of people hate it or don't like it that much.. which is why I stay away from reviews now, except for G.I.'s, which are usually pretty good / accurate, I've also noticed GameTrailers reviews are also usually well-rounded as-well, but most reviews just suck now-a-days.

I learned that with the whole Kane & Lynch fiasco, amazing game, that got crapped on - same with Jericho, which got HORRIBLE reviews, but it's actually a great game.. but no one will give it a chance, because everyone listens to reviews instead of actually trying things themselves.

As for Ao2, I've had it in my GameFly Q for the past 6 months or more (whenever they added it), and deleted everything else from my Q to make sure I get a copy, and if it's any good, then it'll be an instant-buy for me, if not, then it'll be a long rental.

Well yes, I'm sure you can beat it in 5 or 6 hours. I don't understand why some people pay $60 for a game and tear through it. It makes no sense to me. I'm going to replay it over and over, earning money to get weapons or add-ons for the weapons.

But as I've said, I like it. I like it more than I liked Gears. It feels a lot like Gears (and a lot like Mercenaries, what with the objectives, buying weapons, etc), minus Marcus's chunky ass in a huge metal suit. But then again, I'm biased to third person shooters. There's not enough of 'em out there. I doubt I'll be playing it much tonight (I really want to start on Bully), but I'm home all day Thursday.. so if you guys wanna have a go, send me a FR and let's kick some ass.

//FWIW, I liked Kane and Lynch a lot as well, I think it would've been a great game had it had online co-op. If you play co-op, it's fun as hell (minus the fucking vertical co-op screen). Not so much single player.

From the videos it looks pretty hard to aim. The guy playing it had bullets trailing the enemy and not hitting the him at all.

I agree with OGHowie, I didn't like the K&L demo that much, mainly because of the aiming. From the looks of it, Army of Two doesn't look that different. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I've noticed a lot of the reviews are deducting points because of the crappy single player mode which I guess, maybe, is fair. Meanwhile, the co-op mode is pretty much universally being applauded (duh, that's the point of the game!). Makes me wonder if EA should have just gone co-op ONLY. I bet the scores would've been much higher. Of course we all know that would never have happened...

I can't wait to pick this up today and get in a few levels tonight. I'm still very optomistic...

Does this have split-screen local co-op?

Of course! Cripes, that was a silly question.

According to Tycho from Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/2008/03/05):
...the game has no local play option. No local play option. Even on the same Goddamned LAN, both accounts need to be Gold Tier Live accounts. You seriously have got to be fucking kidding me.

You can play with a friend side by side on the same xbox ala splitscreen. You can also play online via Live. You CANNOT however play system link between two xboxs on a LAN unless you are connected to Live... Everyone got it now?

How many people play that way though? I haven't played a system link game since Bushido Blade 2 on the PS1. I guess Lost Planet included it. Can't think of any "next gen" games I own that offer it at the moment. Halo3 and COD4 I would hope.

Alright, here's my review as promised (prepare for a wall of text!):

THE GOOD
The enemy AI is very well done. Enemies will only run out of cover if they know they are being flanked or are otherwise in danger of dying (this is on contract aka normal mode). They even wait until you reload or get distracted to pop out and fire, otherwise they pretty much just blindfire. If it is obvious that you are in a tight spot, they will rush you. I doubt I'll play this on single player anytime in the near future so I can't comment on the partner AI (reports seem mixed).
Weapon customization is freakin' sweet. I didn't think it would be that big of a deal, but I find myself getting a bit giddy when I know blowing up a chopper might net me that little extra boost in moolah to put a freaking shotgun frontmount on my sub machinegun. Yes, you read that right...A shotgun undersling for an SMG...Awesome.
Co-op moves are great and not forced like I expected. You don't have to co-op snipe if you don't want to and back-to-back moves are nicely sprinkled throughout the missions without being repetitive.
Story is alright I suppose. It is a little weird seeing 9-11 in a video game or a suicide bomber yelling out "long live Saddam". Maybe a bit too soon? I don't know. I'm on the second to last mission but if I'm right the plot twist can be seen from a mile away. No one cares though since you most definitely did not buy this game for the story. Let's be honest here.
Most importantly, level design is top notch. The forth level was freakin' brilliant. I think any action gamer will appreciate how it ends. There might not be a lot of levels but so far they have been very varied and open. Think of it kind of like Halo or Gears. Sure it is linear, but you have options on how to tackle each battle with cover strewn about and flanking moves available here and there.
The cover and Aggro system also work exceptionally well. I hope all games use this cover system because it is so effortless and intuitive (no button input necessary). Aggro works like it should and overkill modes are freaking fun.
Can't comment on replayability yet, but it looks to be decent.

THE BAD
The game suffered from a bit of lag during my first session with occasional hiccups and freeze frames. When the game starts to chug, the fun gets zapped out real fast. Hopefully this won't be common. Fortunately, the lag seemed to even out and fade as we went along. Still, it was highly annoying when it happened.
Also beware this game drops f-bombs like no other. It probably puts Butcher's Bay and Gears to shame with the language. I don't mind it per se but it does seem rather superfluous.
I found ammo pick-ups to be somewhat of a problem as well. I was super pumped when I brought in my RPG for the first time, but after one shot I NEVER found another round all mission. WTF? Same goes with the sniper rifle. These weapons are the most fun, so why can't you use them more? It seems that you can only find ammo for your primary and secondary weapon (sidearm). You also cannot pick up enemy weapons which is kind of lame.

THE UGLY
Expect some texture pop and lazy modeling (mostly on background objects and environments). The character models are very detailed however, so it is somewhat of a trade-off I suppose.
Loading times are downright cruel. Expect 20-30 seconds of waiting when going to buy weapons, loading up a level, or just about anything else.

I guess in conclusion it's about right for the scores it has been getting and an acceptable replacement of/compliment to Gears of War co-op. It is definitely a solid title with some great mechanics. A little more polish would have been nice but I would say it is already above average as is. Again, I must stress that this game can only be fully enjoyed with a friend! Any other way and you are just doing yourself a disservice.

It's as good as I thought it would be and the perfect game for my brother and I. I'm glad I bought it. Can't wait to finish it tomorrow and get working on buying that minicannon and grenade launcher!

It's not a default, but there is a gun similar you can buy called the "S-System."

Played through the first 3 missions on Contractor (Medium) and it was pretty challenging. Cant wait to play Professional (Hard).

Weapon customization is awesome, although I only bought 1 gun so far (S-System).

Game-play is awesome. I really enjoy coop games. Although the controls take a little getting used to (maybe about 15-30mins to get used to it). I played a lot of gears and I keep trying to cover by hitting the A button. The cover works more like Vegas, but you dont back up against walls.

Ok, after beating the game twice in one sitting (both on Recruit), I can officially say that this is my new favorite Co-Op game on the Xbox 360. The weapon customization is above and beyond all the things I already saw and heard about it. The cover system is a tiny bit different from most games, so it takes about one level to really get the hang of it. However, the tactics it takes to even beat levels on the easiest difficulty are what make the game for me. The whole Aggro system works quite well, especially when you have someone who knows what they are doing. So, overall:

Pros
Aggro system of fighting
Weapon customization
Enemy AI
Co-Op Snipe/Shield
Good amount of replayability
Nice assortment of achievements - 1000/1000 isn't out of the question.

Cons
Could be longer - not a major make/break point though (I'm sure on harder difficulties it will take longer than 5 hours)
It came out two weeks before Rainbow Six: Vegas 2

Pros:
Weapon Customizations
Level Designs
Enemies can be tough
Aggro
Environmental objectives

Cons:
- Checkpoints aren't always at the right place - I got to a boss and died, then the checkpoint started me off at the battle beforehand
- Environments aren't destructible
- Sometimes you get stuck in the healing animation

Funny as hell:
- When you get shot in the back of your head and die dragging your teammate you fall on him like you are 69'ing him.

Nice assortment of achievements - 1000/1000 isn't out of the question. From what I've read, to get the billionaire multiplayer achievement you would have to play with something like 90% efficiency and it would still take as much time as going Prestige 4 or 5 in CoD(150-200 hours). The rest look like cake though.

Gameplay is sick. Only thing that's throwing me off is that you don't really latch/hook onto cover like in GoW/Vegas so you can't really peek around corners and stuff. I can't imagine how playing it on Hard is gonna be, but I guess it won't be so tough once we unlock the better weapons after the 1st playthrough.

Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by co-op. I consider co-op going as a pair through set levels or the single player campaign. You can join up with another a person and take on another team of 2. You can't however, go out and kill by yourself. The game emphasizes team-play and even in the multiplayer portion, you still have someone tagging along.

So, there is the single player campaign with an A.I. sidekick.
There is co-op with a real person taking over where the A.I. sidekick was.
Then there is online 2 v. 2 where you and a buddy battle against another team of 2.

Played a few hours last night (single player, "Recruit" difficulty), and I'm liking this game.

Surprisingly, controlling your teammate with the d-pad has been pretty intuitive:
- left: re-group
- up: advance
- right: hold position
one click puts him in a "passive" version of the order, while two clicks have them do an "aggressive" version of the order. I've been using the orders to have us leapfrop from cover to cover, or have my teammate go all aggro on the enemy while I flank (or I go all aggo and have my teammate advance up under cover for the kill).
When I get incapacitated, I haven't had any weird hiccups with him coming over to help - only time was when we were getting overrun by the enemy on a rooftop while he was dragging me and it resulted in our deaths (he was getting shot repeated and was kinda flipping between dragging and shooting back).
Not sure if it will be the harder levels that will tax and AI, but I'm looking to seeing how it turns out.
Plus, the teammate AI has been doing it's part in the battle, and the kill count hasn't been too lopsided.

The only odd thing I've seen is when you enter "Overkill" mode - my AI partner rushes ahead quickly and somehow manages to kill everyone ahead of me before I get there :) . However, being too lazy to read the instructions so far, perhaps Overkill works like that?

Otherwise, haven't used the dual sniper mode too much, and the back to back is almost like a mini-game on how many enemies you can kill before getting kicked back into realtime. I've enjoyed being the shield bearer.

Overall, you can kinda say that AoT comes off as a less polished Gears of War, but the modern setting plus the customizable weapons (plus the concentration of mechanics on you and one teammate) has made it feel - to me - more fun to play. I generally play single player games, and I was hesitent this game would just be me babysitting the AI, but it does kinda feel like you're fighting in a team. Looking forward to playing it co-op.

Current load-out preference:
Primary: heavily modded HK 36 with shield (no undercarraige weapons to maintain accuracy)
Secondary: plain P90
Special: tried the RPG, but will go back to a plain M14 sniper rifle

Saving up for a SAW to go nuts with aggro ;)

I believe Overkill works when one person gets a full aggro meter and then it will allow you to activate it. Once activated the guy with the most aggro seems to be forced to stand and everything is in slow motion and he's moving at a slow pace with the slow motion (I assume this is an attempt to make it look like he's the main target for enemies). This gives the other, now "invisible" player, time to go and kill everyone that is in the vacinity until the time is up on Overkill.

Ah, thanks for the clarification! I kept thinking that I was suppose to personally "Overkill" things. At least this will now keep me from running out from cover during Overkill thinking I was doing some kind of matrix move :)

Yeah, let me break it down badkid. If you read my post you would see it's from Tycho. I assume since yer some run of the mill forum troll you don't know much about anything. Tycho is from Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/). If he says there is no co-op, guess what? THERE IS NO SYSTEM LINK CO-OP. You might wanna bullshit around and pretend you work for EA or something and claim there is co-op.

How many people use system link? Unknown. But what we can speculate on it the amount of users who DON'T have XBOX Live Gold accounts. So there are 18 Million Units Sold (http://kotaku.com/359527/18-million-360s-sold-worldwide) Worldwide. And there are only 10 Million Gold Accounts (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/15489/NPD-Numbers-Are-In-Xbox-360-Leads-Industry/). Throw in some still original XBOX owners and were looking at a pretty good size of people who DON'T have XBOX Live Gold. Maybe even half, most likely around 40%. So 40% of people can't play this game over system link. Hmmm...I would say good job on alienating 40% of yer audience EA.

My favorite part about this game is the weapon customization.

It is pretty nice since we don't see it in games, but it kindof feels like they really couldof did more. Such as making each individual piece raise and lower different stats of the weapons so you pick and choose a combination that would be more beneficial to you and your partner rather than purchasing upgrades on a single piece that continually up a single stat (Well outside of supressors which lower two stats). Then they wouldn't require you to buy the lower stuff on the list just to get to the higher stuff since it's virtually eliminated.

Also have more appearences than just 'Pimped' or even allowing us to change various appearences on each piece of the gun. On top of that I think it wouldof been nice if we were able to customize our armor a bit more. It's pretty much three sets that you automatically obtain. Or hell, making the armor look change based on the mask you're wearing would be pretty nice too.

It's a start though. Hopefully we'll see more games where you can customize weapons like this in the future, but with a little more depth.

I just rented this game today, and i have to say, it's fun! I'm playing the splitscreen co-op with my sister and enjoying it. The weapon customization is cool, but i wish the game had more weapons-the more the merrier. I think they are going to release weapon packs in the future for this game depending on how it sells.

And it might be for you. But I consider Split Screen something of a relic, a throwback to the days before the invention of the interwebs (thank you Al Gore). I even have a 122 inch projector that I play on and it's still not enough. If they wanted to deprive a game of something I would suggest it be Splitscreen. But truth be told, a developer should never hold back a feature from their community. Bungie refused to ship Halo3 without 4 man splitscreen. An option I could care less for, but maybe 1% of their population uses. But for that 1%, it's epic. And for me, it's being able to play System Link in any game that is also LIVE enabled.

Agreed, it was a shot at the guy who said 1% of people use System Link. I would wager not to many people rock SplitScreen Halo 3 though. With it's install base being of 8 million + users I would wager maybe 10% use, being around 80,000 people maybe? Sounds high.

One thing that gets me is that there's no way that any Ranger is a Private First Class (like they said one of them was in the beginning) because you are automatically promoted to Specialist once you graduate the school.....I know stupid little fact that nobody cares about.......but for some reason its real easy to catch the little stuff sometimes.

I like the fact that the game deals with real world situations....one of the few games at the moment that dares to jump into that area as far as gaming goes.

I'm trying to understand this system link thing (personally never having used it) - so basically, it's 2+ people, each with a 360 console and TV , under the same roof using a LAN. The problem now is that one or more of those people do not have a Gold account, which means they can't play together.

So this affects:
- People who have multiple Xbox360 system set-ups in their home for them and their friends (or family) to play, but do not want to pay for additional Gold accounts
- People who lug their Xbox360 console to play at their friend's house, but does not have a Gold account

Is this the gist of the argument or am I missing anything?

The main demographic that this effects is not the people who don't have Gold Accounts, it's the people that don't have Broadband at all. I live in a town that just got High Speed about 2 years ago. And all the neighboring towns still don't have access to it, much like a good percentage of in the US. And not just the people who don't have access to it, but just cannot afford it. Irregardless of how many people it affects or why, it shouldn't have been left out. Agreed?? I don't care if it affected 1 person who bought the game, it shouldn't have happened.

Think back before LIVE. The year is November 2001, Halo arrives. Yet it doesn't support System Link, the only option to play other than split screen. How would you have felt? I understand this game isn't Halo or even Gears, but to limit your audience in any sense is unjustifiable. And what if by some miracle MLG wanted to pick up this game? How would they go about that?

Dave, I even double checked to make sure I got the zero's correct and I still failed. My bad.

Woah, calm down a little - I was just asking. I picked up an original Xbox the month before 360 came out, got my 360 around 1-1/2 years ago, and I just turned on my first annual gold account...last night. FYI, I read about this sick cheese spot courtesy of X360A where you can get the assault rifle, pistol, SMG and sniper rifle chiefments.

C+P

Basically you just start up a new single player game on the easiest difficulty and do the training until the part where the game teaches you how to heal your teammate. At this point you tell your AI partner to advance but he'll stop short because there's a proximity mine on the wall. You throw a grenade as hit feet so that he's forced to move up and hit the bomb. His knockout will trigger 120 enemies who spawn in pairs to attack you across the fence. Now you just drag your partner beyond the wall so he can't get shot and he can't shoot them. Both of you have infinite ammo and health so you can just take them out one by one with any of those guns for the achievement. You only have an assault rifle, sniper rifle and pistol but you can swap your pistol with your teammate's SMG to get that achievement too. There are only ~120 enemies so you'll have to restart it a couple of times to snag all of them. You can press start and reset it at the last checkpoint once you've exhausted the enemies so you can start the training from the beginning and your kills will carry over.

Well, since we're posting mini-guides for the achievements...here's the briefcase locations:

Afghanistan
Behind the first M-11 missile is a small uphill path, follow it all the way to the end.
After encountering the 1st heavy armor guard in the mission (a cutscene plays showing him walking out of a door), kill him and all the guards and search the platform area. It's up past a short set of stairs at the back of the platform.
In the area just outside of Brian Hick's cell, go all the way to the back to get this one.Iraq
Right before ascending the ladder to take out Ali Youseff's Lieutenant's Helicopter, look around at the bottom of the ladder to find this.
When you're asked to call in the air-strike on the bunker, run to the tent nearest to the huge wall dividing the area (there are some sentry towers near the wall), it's on the side of the tent facing the wall.
In the final area of the mission before meeting Ali Youseff, there are some metal platforms with guard on it. Kill them all, climb up the small steps to the 2nd level of the platform, and then the ladder to the 3rd level to find this.Aircraft Carrier
On the main deck of the ship after you land, run towards behind control tower and then to the right to find this on a platform on the side of the ship.
In one of the hangars, you have to operate one of the planes to blow through a door (a heavy armored guard appears once the door is blown). Search around the wall closest to the door. It's behind some missiles.
In the final hangar, after activating the missiles to sink the ship, look around at the back right of the hangar to find a basketball court. It's behind the basketball hoop closest to the hangar wall.China
Once you arrive at the dam, head up the stairs towards the first control panel. Look across the dam to see a similiar structure directly opposite. The briefcase is there.
Once you arrive at the village, co-op snipe the 2 guards and take the right path. At the first house you can enter on the path, head to the 2nd floor to get this.
After the only Back-to-Back sequence in China, do not enter the factory. Search outside near the back outside the factory (it's behind a dump) to find this.Miami

After the gates to the luggage area are opened, you have to run to the 2nd floor to operate a control panel. There's an office right before the control panel, search around the back of the office to find this.
On the 3rd floor of SSC tower where you have to jump onto the lift, ignore the lift and keep running forward to the back of the floor to find this. It's directly opposite and across the staircase that you came up on.

It's "could not care less." Saying "could care less" means you could, in fact, care less about the topic.

In any event, after reading a few reviews, it seems the general consensus is that the game is somewhat unfinished and lacks polish. Unless I can find it on the cheap, I'll pass until Army of Two 2.

I've yet to buy a weapon on multiplayer and still win a majority of the time. Most people you will play against aren't the best tacticians out there (it's still a new game). So-far, it seems to be alright. I've only done the first level so-far, and am on the second (my Xbox freezes after 15 - 30 mins of playtime, so in-order to play, I have to keep turning it off and on - which gets rather annoying).

I love the customization so-far, that seems to be a very big, and great part of the game. As-for the gameplay, I honestly don't see this as being anything close to Gears at all. I like the gameplay so-far though, but I haven't experienced anything really "great" yet.

I'm sure it's also because I'm starting on recruit, but it seems as-if I really don't need my partner at all to get through the levels. He's very helpful in some spots, but it's almost as-if I could just beat it all w/o him.

As-far as AI goes, besides one time where my partner was just running around in circles, I haven't had a problem with it yet, and think it's actually rather good A.I., so I don't see why anyone really has a problem with it, the A.I. seems to flow pretty good according to the situation at-hand, not amazingly, but still seems to be very fluid.

I'm on the fence about buying it though, right now I have it as a rental from GameFly, and was going to instant-buy it if I thought it was good, but right now, I'm still not sure whether or not it'll be worth it.. then again, I have yet to play co-op, which I'm sure will 100% change my stance on the game and make it an instant-buy.

Okay so I'm not the only one then... They had better fix that Or I'ma Fuckcking put my foot to someones ass!

same here, i had one lag free game and one game that i couldn't do anything because of the lag. so far, this game is better than i expected. still a 7 (could use a cover system more like gears, i probably won't play the SP after beating it on coop), but that's not bad by any means. There are far worse out there...i.e. Kane and Lynch.

After playing co-op campaign with my friend, I change my stance 100% about the game, and am buying it right now.. that's the most fun I've had in ALONG time.

Yeah what's with the lag? Game's been out for a while and they haven't remedied that yet?

I made good on my promise to "try" this game and surprisingly (well, not really now that I played it) I was able to rent it. My god... This isn't even worth the $8 rental... Nice FAIL once again EA. I mean, wth have you idiots been doing all this time? THIS is all you come up with? wow... Co-Op can't even save this game. BTW, EA how does it feel that games like Soldiers of Fortune Payback, hell even Conflict: Denied OPs looks better than this game. Oh and nice FAIL at trying to copy the Gears of War movements.

lol... Seriously? Seriously... ? wow...

Ya know... your right, I didn't. I was always stuck at the Loading screen and then when I did get into a game I didn't have any control... I think that's called, oh yeah. Lag...? And it sounded like you were saying online was going to be totally different than single player yet it still had the same jaggie crap images and atari mono gun sounds and that gay crosshairs. lol

I usually don't like to come out and say things about people, but your posts are so incredibly annoying and the fact that you seem so serious is forcing me to.

Are you a 10 year old or just as stupid as one?

If I heard someone like you talking out in public I would feel compelled to kick you in the face.

Craig H Christ! If you had read ANY previous posts you would realize we pointed that out already! and besides, Mr. T. Roll, I meant the Co-op, online or split-screen, which doesn't lag... artard

Viper, you have got to be kidding. I refuse to believe anyone is as stupid as you are portraying yourself. Is this really how you get your jollies? By acting like a dumbass on the internet? If so, that's just a little sad.

By the way, I am not an EA fanboy, and could care less who put the game out - that is never a factor when it comes to whether or not I will enjoy it.

I have a free weapon code back from the launch that Scorch gave me. Never got the game so I have no use for it. I really shouldn't have asked him for one. :( Anyways, first one to PM me gets the code. My only rule: you must have the game.

Rios.

See its those stupid in-game conversations that didn't make any sense. Is that question supposed to make Salem and Rios hip?

I hate to say it but he's right about the loading screens and crosshairs. There is no reason for all the loading and the crosshairs/entire HUD is hideous.

After playing quite a bit of versus online yesterday, this joins Saints Row in the short list of MP games that extremely fun despite themselves. If you try and play seriously even small amounts of lag are extremely frustrating because there is so much going on. But if you are playing with a friend and just let loose it can be a blast. If never gets old throwing a grenade or shooting a rocket launcher at an enemy when you partner is standing right by them. The dollars go much faster than I expected too. There were a few 20 minute games where we got $4M+ each.

I couldn't remember his name. But Wu Tang References = win.

I also like how Salem and Rios open huge doors with ease, move 5 ton nuclear missles like its nothing, and shoot missles inside of aircraft carriers and not blow it up

But its a good game

Got the game. Beat it with a friend over the weekend. It's pretty fun playing online coop but the ending was very disappointing.

The both of us had no real urge to replay it afterwards.

Rent it.

I found the game very rental worthy. It was fun co-op I think that is really what it is first, the online was fun also. Though was short still worth a rental with a friend, being you can beat it in one day. I loved the graphics though on the main characters, the detail was amazing on them.

I'm looking to play though this game co-op but nobody on my friends list has the US version of the game. Anyone else looking for a fresh start through the game? I really don't want to play through it alone.

If you're interested send me a friend request on live and we can play.

Anyone have any tips on getitng the achievement for going aggro for 1min? I tried faking my death for a min to see if it would work and nothing happened.

Your teammate gets all the agro if you feign death -- that ain't gonna work.

Order your partner to hold fire and just fire on a turret for a minute.

Demo coming April 1st, DLC coming soon:

http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/03/28/army-of-two-demo-on-april-1-dlc-on-the-way/

The Demo will contain the training tutorial and the game's first level, and the DLC will have several components, a single multiplayer map, two new campaign maps, and a new mercs obstacle course called SSC Challenge. No price or release date was given for the DLC at this time, though with the coming-soon status of the EA Montreal dev blog, we can expect more news relatively quickly.

Reading the comments on that blog, it seems a lot of people really, really hate this game...

I for one liked it a lot and I'm pumped for the DLC. Two campaign levels sounds good to me assuming they are as long as the packed-in campaign levels and don't reuse geometry, etc. It'd be nice if they let you use the tank in the campaign too.

Rented this game for the sole purpose of playing it the way it was intended to be played using split-screen co-op. I'm pretty far into the game and have really enjoyed it so far. I can see where it took some inspiration from Gears of War co-op. Upon recently hearing that Mercenaries 2 will also have full campaign split-screen I think a lot is owed to GoW for pushing co-op as a feature worth developing.

Anyways, the game does have some frustrating quirks with some of the co-op controls such as the boost jumping and weapon swapping, but the core co-op gameplay is a lot of fun. The aggro system is a pretty innovative idea that is very useful in gameplay. Me and my battle buddy flank the shit out of enemies with it for some quality head-butt attacks. The melee moves are hilarious. I'm a PC FPS guy at heart and I'm always critical of console shooter controls, but they feel pretty solid in this game. I have the sensitivity cranked up to max and I can still fine tune my shots which is good.

There are some rough edges here but overall anyone who loves co-op should play this.

just played the demo split screen with my brother and i gotta say, this game is fun! Aside from some wonky camera work when your doing some things together, its fun. I may buy this game used or when it hits around 30. Seems like good co-op fun.

PLayed the demo and it wasn't bad. A little annoying with the text centered on the split screen right over my crosshairs. Still it appeared to be fun. Not something I'd buy for $60, but I may pick it up at $30-20.
