My tax refunds have got me all bugaboo. I am selling my laptop for 700 (since I won't need it til next school year, and by then well I can get the same laptop for 500) and I am getting a 670 dollar tax check. I'm going to pay off most of my credit card on friday with my paycheck. Now my brain is just going all bonkers.

I want Rock Band. I want an HDTV. I need to pay off last 27 dollars on SSBB.

I can afford to get them all but should I. Should I take the dive and only end up saving like 400 or so of my huge chunk of change, or should I be conservative and only get SSBB.

Rock Band will be on sale this weekend.
I have 12% off a 400 dollar tv at best buy.
I can sell my decent 26' sdtv for 80 to my roommate.
I have about 100 dollars worth of dvds to sell/trade for 20% transworld credit.

What is a cheapass with free money to do?

Oh and on top of that I'll be back with 300 dollars on my credit card.

ho hum..............

any suggestions. cuz i be stressin'

don't get rockband, don't get an hdtv. save your money and stay out of debt. I know, it's not fun, but budget your money, and save up in case of an emergency.

If it makes you feel better, I have a blast playing Rock Band. The drums are so freaking fun and...oh...I mean...

lol

Naw seriously though if you can afford to get em and you want em then why not?

Those things will last you for a while. You can use ur future job paychecks on necesities and securities (stocks, bonds, etc).

its kinda true. I mean ebayin' rock band in a jam, no pun intended, would net me more than I paid for it (considering sale)

HDTV and SSBB. An HDTV is a great investment since it will probably get the most use then get SSBB since you only need to pay $27 more. Get Rock Band later on when your pretty sure it won't mess up your checkbook.

Pay off SSBB- you've already got it pre-ordered, so that's more like paying a bill than a 'splurge'.

As for the HDTV/Rock Band... if you're not sure, wait. It would really suck, after all, to sink a few hundred dollars into something then regret it/find a better deal/end up with a broken drum kit.

Take this time (before your coupons/sales expire) to explore all options. See if you can match or better your current discounts... remember, if you opt not to buy, you cna always change your mind later.;)

Pretty much what I was going to post. In fact, you should pay off your credit card and then pay it off every month from there on out. I hate interest. It's the absolute non-cheapass thing to do. Why would you ever want to pay more for something... and that's exactly what carrying credit card debt does.. makes you pay more for something every time you don't pay it off in full.

I see massive debt in your future...

Pay off your credit card and see what you can get after. Don't sweat the debt stuff, but don't ignore it. If I was you I'd buy the TV before Rock Band.

Unless you absolutely want an HDTV and know the ups and downs, I would avoid it for now. I mean, I have one and I love it. But I could've done without it as I hardly do much current gen gaming these days... and old games look like shit on HDTVs. And cable looks like crap too... getting an HD feed would cost me roughly $20 a month extra.

I would completely pay off the credit cards first. I know you said you could pay most of it off with your paycheck but I'd take care of it now.

Of course, I'd recommending get SSBB over anything else though. Rock Band is just... too huge of an investment.

SSBB is like debt so pay that off, and then just perfect that game. the others are optional.

Brawl will only cost you $27, pay that off and use the rest for further expenses not related to gaming. When I stopped buying every impulse game I wanted I became much happier, I only buy the games I absolutely want and that have gotten accolades. I'm not scrounging for money anymore and I have backup funds now just in case anything ever comes up. While I have enough money for an HDTV (which I really want), I decided to hold off and pay the bills.

Money management is important, just because you happen to come across $600 doesn't mean you should spend it.

And then you die in a month and never got to enjoy anything because you where saving.

Have fun while you can.

See, I was like this just recently when I sold off my old gen games, but I realized that the item I was looking at buying(a PS3) will only get cheaper and more affordable and that I don't really NEED one at this point due to all of the last gen games I can buy really cheaply for the PS2/Xbox I still own.

So, it comes down to a question of 'will something come up that I will NEED those funds to take care of?'. If you can answer that with an emphatic NO, then by all means, splurge to your hearts content. But remember that life comes at you fast and the unexpected things are those which may drain your bank account and if you don't have the money there to pay the expenses off, then you may end up in debt again on your cards.

ok I have made my decision. I can pay off my entire credit card (its only 250 bucks its not a huge amount, but I am going to cut that bitch in half) Pay off SSBB, with tips I made today at work, and just get rock band at target since its on sale this Sunday.

Saving all the rest. About 1100. I am doing pretty well considering I am getting my 2 year degree with no debt involved and after my credit card pay off no other debt.

I have been really good about only getting games I really want. Rock band has been one, and of course SSBB......

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I am going to wait on the HD

Get one "fun" item. A hundred bucks or so, pay off smash and save the rest. It's not the fun thing to do, but you won't have buyers remorse later.
