Fire up the fret board, crank the amp to 11 and get ready to rock this way with Activision, Inc.’s (Nasdaq:ATVI) Guitar Hero®: Aerosmith®, the first game built around the legendary music of America’s Greatest Rock ‘N Roll Band: Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer. Slated for release this June, this latest installment from the franchise with the #1 best-selling video game in 2007, puts players in the shoes of Perry (guitar), Whitford (guitar) and Hamilton (bass), as they rock out alongside frontman Tyler and drummer Kramer. Gamers will experience Aerosmith’s GRAMMY® winning career, from their first gig to becoming rock royalty, in a way that no other entertainment vehicle offers.

To celebrate this historic, ground-breaking collaboration, Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock fans will have the opportunity to download and jam to Aerosmith’s “Dream On.” The song will be available for free from February 16-18 on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®Store for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. For more information, please visit www.guitarhero.com (http://www.guitarhero.com/).

“Having a game built around Aerosmith has been a huge honor and really a great experience for us,” says Joe Perry. “We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band’s history.”

Steven Tyler says, “Any band that can go from ‘Don’t Want to Miss A Thing’ (Aerosmith’s #1 smash hit) to the ass-kicking ‘Sweet Emotion’ to the cheekiness of ‘Love in an Elevator,’ to the classic ballad ‘Dream On’ shows why Activision chose us to headline this game based on the diversity of the Aerosmith catalog. Not only is songwriting a bitch, but then it goes and has puppies.”

Perry adds, “On a larger scale, it’s cool for us to be pioneers helping to rebuild the music industry through a format like video games. It’s great for rock since the record companies are struggling to make sense of how things are changing. Fans want to get and experience music in new formats--and there are going to be some of them who will play the game, then pick up the guitar for real and start bands. It’s what’s happening now, and it’s only going to build more momentum in the future. It’s a massive change for the music business.”

“We are extremely excited that Aerosmith chose to team up with Guitar Hero, bringing one of the world’s all-time best-selling artists together with one of the biggest video game brands, to deliver a new and unique interactive way for our customers to connect with artists and their music,” said Dusty Welch, head of publishing for Activision/RedOctane. “This partnership will give Aerosmith, a band that has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, a powerful and innovative platform to reach their fans and new audiences.”

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith brings these quintessential rock legends to the interactive realm to create the ultimate gaming experience. As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith’s greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way. Venues from historical moments during the band’s illustrious career offer the experience of “sweet emotion” and further capture the essence of the band’s rise to fame.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. The Wii™ version is being developed by Vicarious Visions. The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system version is being developed by Budcat. The game is not yet rated by the ESRB.
The Raping Begins.

Whats the big deal? Guitar Hero and Aerosmith. Good combination. Better then a lot of the crap bands that were on the first two GH games.

What musha said. Guitar Hero and Aerosmith sounds like they'd go perfect together.

Sounds boring. Nothing against Aerosmith, just that a whole game with just one band doesn't appeal to me.

See, I think if there's going to be a single game based on Aerosmith (or any band).. it should be Rock Band: Areosmith.

Am I alone on this?

Wow, nothing post Permanent Vacation? I have to give the gamemakers more credit than I initially thought.

That said, I still won't buy it until it's $20 or less.

Wow. I hope this game flops. I hope this game flops bad. Fuck this shit. I like aerosmith but a full game about any 1 band is fucking stupid. Expecially when they're holding back the DLC from us. The only good news about this is a free downloadable song. Even when this game reaches $5 or less, it will be a hard decision to pick up. For fucks sake.

I, otoh, dont care much for any of the song you listed other than Dude (Looks Like a Lady) and of course Walk This Way (though I'd prefer the Run-DMC rap/rock remix :)). I'd definitely skip it if Cryin' and Livin' on the Edge were excluded. I wonder if they will have a venue similar to Disney World's "Rock n' Rollercoaster'.:bouncy:

I think that's just Cheapy's wish list.

I can't think of another hugely successful band that I like less than Aerosmith. I just don't get it - some of their early stuff is decent but they have been writing the same song for the last 20 years and people are eating it up. I will be passing on this game (although I might be in for the free DL since... well, it's free!).

I'm all over this! I love Aerosmith, seen them twice (98 and 2001). It'll be fun to play it on GH.
Not as fun as a real guitar (a lot more work and effort, and more rewarding).

All that grandiose talk about the changing music business does make me think a little bit. What if this really caught on? Bands could start releasing "special editions" of their albums that include an extra disc, with the entire album in videogame (Guitar Hero, Rock Band, etc) form. If any band I'm into were to do that, I know I'd be all over it. It would drive a lot of people who don't own the game yet (like myself) to go out and buy it, so they could "play" the new album they just bought.

A while ago something similar to this idea actually did happen. An album by P.O.D. came with a bonus PS2 disc that contained an exclusive level of Amplitude. And that was just a bonus for a regularly-priced album! So throwing in a full album as a bonus - at the standard, slightly-inflated "special edition" price - wouldn't be too out of the question (as far as price is concerned).

If they market these as special editions of albums (rather than marketing them as proper "games") I think it could be the start of something huge. It looks like they're going the "game" route with Aerosmith, but if they shift their emphasis a bit I think they could turn this idea into huge business.

Well, based on that screenshot I'd say we're pretty much guaranteed to get "Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees)" and "Pink".

While not as good as their older stuff, I'm okay with their newer stuff because Mrs. Shipwreck likes the "Get a Grip" and beyond Aerosmith.

Guitar Hero III was really the beginning of the end. I think I'm about spent on GH games and plastic guitars. I suspect most people will be soon, and the rhythm game boom will start slowing down big time.

I agree that rhythm games are going to slow down, but I think that Guitar Hero Rocks the 80's was what killed it. GHII had a few good songs and a lot of shitty ones. 80's made people cry.

It would make more sense for Band theme games to be released through Rock Band. Because you can actually play as more than just the guitarists.

Actually, no GH game by itself has been $20. :-( I don't expect it anytime soon.

Well, then I don't expect buyin' this fuckin' game anytime soon. This isn't exactly Gears of War 2 or anything like that. The difference is that I can wait for fuckin' EVER for this game to hit $20.

Though, the point is that this is an ENTIRE disc of Aerosmith songs, so there's no doubt in my mind that it will hit the cheap-o bin ($25 Amazon DOTD?) within 5 weeks of release. I'm calling it now. 35K copies sold total, 90% of them due to people who buy any and every GH game.

I think that's just Cheapy's wish list.

Oh, bollocks. You're right - I had a meeting to rush to, so I saw the list and thought "SHAZAM! Whatta list!" Looks like we still stand a change of $40-50 worth of fuckin' 1990's ballads like those Alicia Silverstone/Liv Tyler videos, and that damned Armageddon song.

Blarf.

EDIT:
I can't think of another hugely successful band that I like less than Aerosmith. I just don't get it - some of their early stuff is decent but they have been writing the same song for the last 20 years and people are eating it up. I will be passing on this game (although I might be in for the free DL since... well, it's free!).

Aerosmith would be ROCK fuckIN LEGENDS if they died in the late 1970's. But they had to continue living and recording. Like Hulk Hogan himself, every further public enterprise he engages in kills of the mystique and appreciation we had more and more. Their early music was fantastic heavy blues-influenced rock music - but they became redundant and irrelevant well before Permanent Vacation.

What I'm curious about, since no one mentioned it yet, is that it's also going to contain tracks by bands that have 'toured with or been inspired by Aerosmith'.

What in the hell does that mean? So, basically, you couldn't even make an entire disc of just Aerosmith?

Regardless, I have to agree with a lot of people, this is a bad move, but since Activision likes money, it was sort of inevitable.

That, and I think they would have been better off releasing the rumored U2 disc first instead.

wow.... this just seems like another attempt at a "re-release" of the same game with different songs for full price.

When rocks the 80's came out I had my PS2 with HD advance, I rented rocks the 80's on gamefly (subscribed for that 1 month) copied it into my PS2 and played it for about 2 hours.... I feel bad for anyone who actually bought the game for full price... what a rip

Technically no:

As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith’s greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way.

I'm a bit interested, but that'll go down if this is just GH3 re-skinned in Aerosmith stuff like Rock the 80s. I'll probably pick it up the same way I'll pick up GH3, which is with a great sale or price drop.

I was never a huge Aerosmith fan, but I do have a couple of their CD's. I am however a huge fan of the Guitar Hero games so I may get into Aerosmith a lot more now. Too bad we have to wait until June I was hoping for it to come out sooner.
