It's sad that things like that happen. I played WoW for about a year and then quit and haven't been able to get back into it despite my efforts. During that year though there were definitely times when I felt 'addicted', thank God it was no where near this poor guys, but an addiction none the less. Anyone else here had experiences like this? With any game, not just World of Warcraft.
And I'm not saying WoW is evil or for losers, I'm just saying you have to watch out for yourself.

Yeah, I just saw that, it's crazy. You can't spend anywhere near that much time playing games when you have a life to run.
Morning to night on weekends... Wow.

I could never get too into the endgame stuff.
I hit 60 in October of 2006 and sort of spun my wheels running 5-10 man instances/raids while waiting for the expansion. The expansion hit in... January of '07 I think and I got to 70 by the middle of March and then had the same choices I had at 60 pre-expansion. Run the same couple dungeons 10-20 times each for rep and occasionally an item or start a new character and go back through what I had just spent the last year finishing. Quitting wasn't that hard, the initial journey to the top is a blast. Every once in a while I consider buying a gamecard and starting again.

The end game is the worst part. You spend extreme amounts of time for small upgrades that are obsolete as soon as a new dungeon or expansion comes out. I spent way, way too much time on it.

I think about geting a game card every now and then. When the next expansion comes out chances are I will start back up just before it comes out and stop about a month or two after. I really only played it alot near the end and got sick of it. I liked having a life back when I quit the one job I had that made me work on a 2nd shift, 4p.m. to 12:30a.m. I wanted to keep it so when my subscription was about up I had quit. The guild I was in expected me to have no life and did nothing but bitch when I was not on. Most the time I was just watching TV and didn't want to play.
As for thier marriage it was in trouble before WOW. I hate when I see online where someone says some video game ended thier marriage. It was on its way before she bought him WOW. If it wasn't she did nothing to stop it. Hell if I was married and some video game was about to end it I would expect my wife to get rid of the damn game so I could not play it. Then if I bought a new copy that would just show that I'm not even willing to try and work things out and she should go. I know if things would be the other way around I would do that to her. She was chances are just looking for a way out.

Raids> Marriage.
One is 15 dollars a month, and the other is a lifetime of suffering.

Man, I thought my cousin was addicted to WoW...but this guy takes the cake. Well, that and the few that I read that died from playing WoW for a couple of days straight. Why neglect life, health, and companionship for a video game...

I played from the closed beta to about 11 months after release on my first stint. Took 2 characters to 60 in that time. Then I quit for about 6 months. I came back and started a new character. I didn't contact my old guild for about a month after I was back. Then I had 3 60s. In the fall of that year I started doing MC raids. We would break it up over three nights until we got good at it. Eventually we were clearing MC in about 2.5 hours. We moved onto BWL and managed to take down Nef in a far shorter amount of time.
Around Christmas of that year, right before the expansion landed, I took a break. I had 3 weeks off on vacation and I just spent the time with my kids.
Then I bought the expansion and all the old raiding that I liked so much went away as we had to level up to the new goal of 70. I think I got one toon up to 66 or so and then I just gave up. It's been almost a year now and I don't regret it. I still have 2 timecards sitting around, but I doubt I'll ever use them.
