many 360 skus are showing up as Discontinued by Manufacturer on Amazon.

could there be a new sku or redesign in the works? I doubt that MS is bailing out of games though as the fanboys are speculating...

I doubt this is happening, but I hope GDC brings us a cheaper higher quality 360 SKU. I refuse to pay $350 for a premium system. If not GDC, hopefully early summer with E3 or whatever it is called now.

Maybe Halo 3? I would imagine that most people who were going to buy a 360 for Halo 3 already have, so it's safe to bundle it with the system now.

The holiday pack-in bundles are discontinued. Remember how every sku was discontinued before the Forza/Marvel pack?!?!?! No? Well it was, now those "limited edition holiday super mega-awesome" bundles are discontinued and will be replaced with the "no free games here" edition.

So let's recap:
Q: Are the current 'limited edition' (only to be sold in a limited quantity, sold until supplies last, HOLIDAY edition bundles) sku's discontinued.

A: Yes, they were 'limited edition holiday bundles'. The holidays are over, they are sold out; therefore they will be replaced by the non-limited regular, no holiday 'limited edition' pack-in skus.

/sorry if this was smarmy. I used to work in retail and I get sick of rumor mongering based on retail skus that mean nothing. Cheers!

Well, I have a broken Elite, and a Best Buy replacement plan, but no Best Buy in CT has any to replace for me... so I called corporate and they told me it's a shortage from Microsoft in addition to, what they believed, was a new model coming out.

So, these very well all could be discontinued with one single SKU set to be sent to stores next shipment. Who knows at this point.

Shipments of new 360 units have completely stopped from the manufacturer, I can't recall getting any new 360 systems in at work for at least a month.. this usually happens when a new sku will be coming out. So I'm fully expecting a new sku to be announced fairly soon.

I was just at Circuit City and made an inquiry about elites, they said they havent got a single Xbox 360 for a month, notice why the Hardware sales for 360 were really low in January, I would say this is why

And yeah, this would be why the hardware sales were so low in January - they haven't been shipping any out. It's become so desperate that we sold all of our used and refurbished 360's. I look forward to whatever new sku will be announced, they need to get it out there quick.

Yeah, why on Earth would they let all the stock run totally out? To clear them off of the shelves I guess, but still, pretty weird. What if there is a first-time buyer who looks to buy a new system, and since there are no 360's he just decides to buy a PS3, especially with the soon-to-be-announced production halt of HD-DVD?...

I think something is happening(new skus), I went to two Best Buys and a Circuit City today and they didn't have ANY 360s. At least I hope something is happening, I want a price drop or a more reliable system before I buy anything.

Some of the comments about Microsoft quitting are funny. They closed a plant and in order to maximize production, they need to make fewer skus. They will focus on 3 main ones and maybe reveal new game bundles in the future. Not a big deal at all.

Why April 29th?

I think that's when GTA4 is supposed to come out , but I may be wrong.

I know 1up (or somebody) was sending around a rumor that a $50 drop could happen when GTA4 comes out to draw interest. In any case though , I doubt they would wait that long to introduce a new sku cause if most places are already out or low on 360s , what are they going to do , not sell any new systems for 2 more months?

My guess if anything is that they will introduce at least one new sku soon , most likely a replacement for the Pro and maybe a replacement for the Arcade. Then introduce the new third sku around GTA4 time along with a price drop.

There is some speculation that the shortage may be nothing more than production slowdown due to the Chinese New Year holiday.

Chinese New Year is as big a really deal in Asia could affect production at the factories. It could just be as simple as the holiday break slowed production and the demand for Xboxes surpassed the supply.
I prefer to believe that they are planing on releasing some new SKUs

so the latest rumor i've seen:

alot of industry insiders say MS was going to reveal a HD-DVD 360 @ the CES, but that plan fell apart when Warner Bros announced they were going BR exclusive, these HD-DVD 360s were suppose to be on the shelves right now but since MS had to pull them we're left with a shortage

About the HD DVD thing, if that is true I think MS could of done a lot more funding on it, seems like an important thing to invest in. If MS can pay Rockstar $50 mill for exclusive content, they can spend some cash on movie studios and Toshiba.

But man that would of been cool, an HD-DVD integrated 360 would have finally convinced me to buy another 360.

Again...these sku adjustments happen every year with Xbox systems back to Xbox 1.

All that has happened is the holiday bundle is discontinued.

MS probably wanted to ensure they would have a profitable 4th quarter which meant they didn't ramp up production on a loss leader product like 360. A new fiscal year is coming up, where production will ramp up and they'll re-stock the retail channels.

Possibly. I've been dealing with longer than usual lead times on parts at work (electronics, but not consumer) because of their New Year.

They're still being made though. In a thread in the deals forum someone reported team FDOU, lot 803 units being in-store. The Falcon I purchased the day after Christmas in Anderson, SC was lot 747, saw some lot 750's in a Best Buy in Cary, NC in mid-January. Not sure how many is in each lot though...

Cleaning out old stock from the channel has been a big problem for MS, right? I remember I bought a 360 in 10/06 and it was manufactured 6/06. Well this is their chance to clean out all of that old manufacturing stock--and get those RROD prone units into the hands of today's gamers so that when they buy their replacement unit, it won't give the RROD, too. :)

I'm going to guess price drop, too. But it's time for a price drop. Bring the Pro down to the "arcade" price point (279) and bring the Elite down to $379. Halo 3 units could drop to $329 until they are all clearanced out.

I would imagine retailers would have wanted the old stock cleared out if they were coming out with a smaller graphics chip. I would imagine it took up some time for a clerk to help out in telling what model an informed customer was looking at.

If that was the case, they could just release those systems as the standard 'pro' version and disable the HD-DVD playback. Yeah, they would be gimping the system and take a hit on the extra cost of the drives, BUT at the same time they could save some face and not have 'actually planned'<Cough> an HD-DVD xbox. Then they can release the Blu-Ray addon and buy time to incorporate an integrated solution.

according to the latest Game Informer (rumor section), Microsoft is coming out with a peripheral for 360 controller giving it tilt abilities. sounds like something would be sold separately, but it's conceivable that it would start to come standard with new 360s

Well now that GDC has come and gone, when will 360's be restocked in most stores and will there be a new SKU? I know a couple of Gamestop's near me just got a shipment of Elite's in this week, and a friend of mine bought the last 360 system (Pro) at Game Crazy.
