(http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/n/nplusxboxlivearcade) Features
In a futuristic world of inadvertently homicidal robots, a daring ninja must use deft acrobatic skill and guts of steel to survive. N+ is a peerless action-puzzle platformer with more than 300 levels in which to hone your ninja reflexes, plus a built-in level editor for when you're hungry for more. N+ also features unique, physics-based controls, stylish graphics, unlimited lives, competitive and cooperative multiplayer, plenty of gold, and several flavors of sweet, sweet action. Running, jumping, and dying in an unpleasant-yet-comical manner has never been more fun!
Addictive gameplay: N+ features run-and-jump gameplay with hilarious ragdoll physics. It's easy to get into, but challenging enough for the hardcore gamer.
Many, many levels: Featuring well over 300 all-new levels, the game also includes a built-in level editor for players to create their own levels. Additional level packs, including the classic N levels from the PC version, and multiplayer level packs, will be available in the future.
Multiplayer modes: Multiple cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes are included. Try survival, race, or co-op play.
Replays: Each level can be replayed to see how fast you completed the level.
Additional content: Check out additional ninja costumes for both single-player and multiplayer games, and skin your dashboard the N+ way.
I can't for the life of me figure out why this game is 800pts when it looks like this:
http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/4003/n20071203110244745640whu6.jpg (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1174)
But it sure has been getting lots of hype. Oh and I put N PLUS in the title instead of N+ because the search feature won't pick up N+

800 is a bit steep, but I like the game and like supporting the new content that appears on XBLA, it's good to keep the independant devs going.

800 is steep, but its a great game. If you don't have the cash for this, just play the free one online, even though this 360, DS and PSP version has more stuff, the original has a ton of replay value all on its own.

Are the levels different from the PC version? If they're not I won't be getting it.
EDIT: I'm a tard and found my answer in the OP. Sounds like it's got a lot going for it. But 800 pts worth? Eh.. I'm skeptical.

Downloaded the demo, played through the tutorial and deleted it off my hard drive. I could see early on that this is just not the game for me. I just finished a 'frustration' type game (Stuntman: Ignition) and at least the payoff there was a cool looking replay. Dont see much reward in N+ so I'll pass. Interesting idea though.

I really like the concept and the art style of N+, and the gameplay is fun. I think, though, this might be one of those games that gets a lot harder later on, where the fun comes from replaying and practicing the levels over and over to finish them or to improve upon your time/score. I'm not sure I have the patience for that kind of reward anymore. If the game were 400-600 points, I'd buy it now, but at 800 points, I think I'll wait and buy it later.
On a side note, does anyone have a link to what the gamer picture packs look like? I'm thinking the ninja pack might have an icon suited for me, given my Gamertag.
Fun demo, but seems like it should be a 400 point game to me.

Yeah, co-op gets very hard very quickly. My buddy and I were screaming to each other wondering why it was easy two levels ago. The ones that suck the most are the levels where one player has to complete a series of difficult tasks before the other is able to do any of his own difficult tasks.

Pretty interesting article on N+
In an Independent Games Summit talk on Tuesday, Metanet's Mare Sheppard and Slick Entertainment's Nick Waanders discussed the making of N+ for Xbox Live Arcade, debuting on XBLA tomorrow, taking a great in-depth nuts and bolts view of making a downloadable console game, and estimating a $125,000 minimum cost to make an Xbox Live Arcade game.
Starting out, Sheppard commented from a console starting-point: "A well-developed prototype is worth its weight in gold." She also noted it was important to prove to your distributor the game could work, commenting: "Microsoft was [initially] concerned that they wouldn't translate to HD in a very... exciting manner" - but an HD demo version convinced them otherwise.
As for how the game is funded, the Canadian duo managed to get Government funding from Telefilm for the game, with the duo explaining that it's a loan that's repaid out of profit. Sheppard then showed a full breakdown of N+'s costs - with $214,000 in total development dollars for the game.
She particularly noted that, even taking the programming in-house, it costs about a minimum of $125,000 to develop an Xbox Live Arcade title, including many of the compulsory or necessary payments for localization, testing, and so on. She did note: "Pay yourself as much as you can" with regard to salaries - in case of title delays.
Sheppard also commented on timing for the Xbox Live Arcade release, that if you're not necessarily a very high profile game: "Occasionally you'll get prioritized, or bumped." In general she praised the Xbox Live Arcade submission and publishing process as being "smooth", though.
Waanders then took a month-by-month overview of the project, starting in February 2007, when they started by borrowing the Eets codebase from fellow Canadians at Klei Entertainment, and moving through the year. He revealed a host of useful tips - including the creation of a custom visual effects editor early on, as well as early sound and UI design outsourcing.
The Slick Entertainment code also mentioned when showing the debug menus that it was a capture of "our new game" = presumably also for Xbox Live Arcade - but didn't specify what the title is. The alpha version was complete at the end of June 2007 - all the documentation and related materials took the N+ developers 3 to 4 days to complete and send to Microsoft.
Through the summer, the companies put together the ESRB and foreign ratings submission - with a 15 minute video of the game - with a document describing it. The artist doing this took 4 days.
In August, VMC (Microsoft's recommended testing partner) started testing the XBLA title, with particular problem areas being dialog boxes for potential errors, and network bandwidth issues. They also showed the game at PAX in August.
The different multiplayer modes - including local, system links, and networked ranked and non-ranked - gave the companies some problems, and TCR issues and ranked leaderboards also became an issue.
In addition, some level name changes were needed - according to Nick, Mare & Raigan at Metanet "have an uncanny ability to find level names that are not OK with Microsoft legal." The game failed certification on a single-line code bug the first time out, but was approved in January 2008.
As for lessons, things that went right included a set design, homebuilt tools that helped the developers a lot, and using PAX for focus testing. In addition, things to improve include perhaps too many features and options in the game - leading to a great deal of complex multi-mode bugs. But overall, the project was completed swiftly and efficiently - and the audience appreciate this postmortem.

Probably never.
Microsoft is very very strict and anal about user created content. I know of multiple games, even on XBLA, that had to change the course of their development because Microsoft wouldn't allow sharing of user created content.
This is also the primary reason you do not have Unreal Tournement 3 on the 360 yet.

Yeah, the game kind of got screwed over by MS when they requested the level-sharing network be removed at the last minute. Metanet's saying that they want to get it back in the game in a patch, but I'm not sure about the chances of that happening.
It looks like some level packs are coming out soon:
N+ co-creator Mare Sheppard told IGN today that Metanet plans to release three downloadable expansion packs, each containing about 200 levels, in the months ahead. The first pack will likely contain some easier levels and some co-op multiplayer levels and could hit Xbox Live Marketplace as early as three weeks from now. The second and third packs would follow soon after.
"The other packs will probably contain harder levels, race and survival multiplayer, and some classic N levels from the original game -- we're just not sure how the content will be distributed among the packs yet," Sheppard said.
Metanet is shooting for a price of 200 Microsoft Points per pack (US $2.50) or one point per level, and one of the packs will be free.
In addition to designing/porting the roughly 600 extra N+ levels, Sheppard said Metanet is hard at work on a potential title update for N+ that would enable level sharing. Although the N+ level editor, included with the game, allows players to create their own levels, the finished products aren't distributable over Xbox Live.
There are also some other "secret goodies" in the works for the three sets of downloadable content, but Metanet isn't sharing that info just yet.

If they support this game as they've described in that quoted section, they'll be getting a lot of my points. I'd love an easier pack of levels that you can go after from a time attack perspective instead of just getting through.
The online community for this game has been pretty solid and if they somehow get that level sharing feature added back in, it'll only take off from there. Hope they can pull it off somehow.

The game is picking up some momentum I think. I've heard it talked about a lot more the past two weeks. If they ever come to an agreement on making level sharing easier, I think they'll see another increase in buys.

Saw this posted the other day, so I downloaded the demo (somehow missed it the first time around). This looks like a really fun game, but with my backlog so big, and the last couple of XBLA games I've purchased have been disappointments (that pirate boat game, and Aces of the Galaxy) at the 800 point level (heck, the only game I really have enjoyed at the 800 level and thought it was fully worth it was Geometry Wars), that has scared me off a bit. Yes.
Co-op over Live or local? Sounds fun but I already have this on my DS =/

Most of the co-op levels are devilishly hard. It took some random kid and I a solid chunk of time to get through all 10 of them.
Beating all of the levels in this game is impossible, however. It cannot be done by a mere mortal.

Already did all of them. It wasn't too bad. There's just a few co-op ones that piss me off because it's so easy to fuck over the group.
