10:56 am PT -- It's changing today. For the first time, community games will be distributed through Xbox Live.

10:57 am PT -- "'Xbox Live Community Games' will give creators a huge audience to share their creativity with. Game distribution will be democritized, allowing the community to control the content. Create, Submit, Peer Review, Play are the four key steps." "We want creativity to flow through this pipeline," says Satchell. Oh, we get it.

10:58 am PT -- Your creator identity is not too different from a gamertag -- it has a history of your developed games. You'll inform users what's in your game, using descriptive sliders. On a scale, how violent is it? What sort of game is it? There's prohibited content, of course, but ti's up to peer reviewers to evaluate the game. "now, 10 million people on Xbox Live get to play your game."

10:59 am PT -- We're shown a few games on an Xbox 360. "JellyCar" A bouncy, 2D car drives along on a sketchpad, bouncing up and down on a cartoon road. It looks adorable!

11:00 am PT -- "Little Gamers" is next. A famiiar little kid walks on a 2D plane chainsawing and shotgunning zombies. And yes, we can turn weapons into verbs if we want to. A compliation video runs.

11:01 am PT -- "Proximity HD" looks like Hexix. "Trilinea" appears to be a bourdbased game

here's one of the games:

Alos note that some games can be played on your Zune with custom soundtracks.

Sounds like they are finally delivering on user created content that they were talking about back before the 360 launched (at E3 05 I think).

So is this what they were hiding behind that curtain (http://kotaku.com/358793/visual-walkthrough-of-xbox-360s-xna-interface). I like the idea of this, wonder when this will come out.

If anyone is interested in potentially putting a game together, let me know. I'm currently looking for ideas/groups of developers to get something going.

I was already doing this about a year and a half ago when XNA support was announced. Good luck, but I may be willing to throw my hat in.

You got something solid in the works for XBLA RR?

Nope, but I've had about 4 development teams specificly put together for an XBLA game, yet all have fallen apart for reasons I can easily answer.

If we can sort out a XNA dev team on CAG, i'm sure I can get the team we need to make something... the main thing we will need is a programmer seeing as art will be very easy on my side since it's what I'm majoring in.

Some of these game seem pretty fun. Anyone know if they will be free of if they will have achievements?

Dishwasher was pretty fun, but the Squishy Car or whatever it was called certainly had a charm about it. The simplistic visuals to the human made sound effects...I actually was having fun

The 7 trial games are available until Feb 24 and can only be played free until March 9. No word on achievements, but I doubt they have any.

what all would be required to get a game started on XNA

What level of skill do you need to make these types of games? I'd love to learn how to do it, but I have no prior experience in this either.

Do that.

(It's a pretty simple process if you have any knowledge about programming.)

Some programming knowledge is required. This isn't something you can pick up in a day or so, but it's not as heavy as learning UnrealEd or anything.

You do need to pay for your membership. 3 months or 12 months with prices being I believe the first one was 39.99 and the 12 month being 99.99.

I think some people are confused thinking they have to become members to play these games and download these demos which is not true...at least the demo. Though I doubt the completed games would require that as they would be put on XBLA once the community votes on it.

I just check the marketplace and the membeship for the Canadians price is 59$ for 4 month or 119$ for 12 month.

There seems to be a lot of confusion here.

You do not need the membership if you do not plan on publishing games to the 360.

You do not need the membership to download games that other people are putting out.

You do not need the membership if you want to release games on Windows Live through XNA.

Once you pay for the membership, you are allowed access to more development software, plus the front end loader that will let you transfer your game over to the 360.

On the Dishwasher menu there is an achievements menu so I think there will be.

I have been developing two different games in XNA for the past few months in most of my free time (which isn't much). One is an oldschool platformer and the other is a ninja side scroller. Both are far from being completed, but I will get around to finishing them some day.

I really liked JellyCar. It just had some inexplicable charm that just drew me in. Although I dislike how I can't quit midstage.

If people can make more games as good as that Dishwasher, wow.

I’m currently a mainframe programmer for a large bank. I would like nothing more than to be a videogame developer. Writing code for banking is not so exciting. I need to checkout this website and such.

I watched the Major Nelson thing on that Inside Xbox thing on the Live blade. They said that the real service will be launched this holiday. Man that blows that they tease us now, but we have to wait so long for the real thing.

I’m assuming that these community games won’t be free come holiday. If you want in on the “Youtube” part of it, you’ll have to pay the $100/year. Then you get to play the pre-release games and vote on which are good and bad. Then the good ones will get released to the marketplace, but will have to be paid for like a XBLA game.

I thought a year ago about paying the $100/year just to play around. Yesterday’s announcement has greatly increased my interest.

I thought Jelly Car was the best. Dishwasher was okay, but got bored in about 5 minutes. However I did like the style.

I liked Dishwasher. Felt like a 2D Devil May Cry. Also like JellyCar, aside from not being able to quit mid-track. Others were kinda meh.

RR, I'd love to work on programming a game with you and other CAGs. Haven't gotten too into game dev. yet 'cause I can't draw for jack, but everyone's telling me C# is a lot like Java, so I should be able to handle it.

The proiximty puzzle game seamed pretty cool too. Nothing revolutionary but decent. Jelycar was pretty fun, I'd love to see a full release of that. I'll be trying out the others tonight.

I LOVE this feature already! It's like being a beta tester.

Tried out two so far.

Rocketball is awful. JellyCar is fun to play around in for a short time. Loved the sound.

Pretty sure I'll check them all out, why not?

Yeah, Jelly Car put a huge smile on my face. I got to like level 4 or 5. I kept getting stuck in this crater thing and couldn’t get out. I got pretty annoyed and gave up.

I played The Dishwasher up to the first boss. There seems to be 2 stages to the boss. The second stage kicked my butt and I gave up.

That's what I meant Jelly Car and not Squishy car. I was just remembering the basics for it. I'm glad others agreed with me about the Dishwasher...it seems ok, but nothing stellar. Also totally agree that it felt like a 2D Devil May Cry.

They definitely should include a quit midgame option for JellyCar though.

I think it is pretty sad that I want to play these more than 90% of the real XBLA games.

Dishwasher and Jelly Car are awesome. I would probably buy Jelly Car for 400 points and Dishwasher I would easily spend 800 on. I hope this opens the door for some real good games and not ports of 1970s games.

Remember to roll using the right joystick. Boss isn't very hard once you have that down.

Dishwasher was almost too good to be true....but then I realized it's from the same people who made ZSX2, which none of you played, but was an amazing spiritual sequel to River City Ransom.

The game is in great hands.

I was reading Joystiq’s report from some bloggers breakfast. They said when these games are final, they won’t have achievements. MS also said that they wouldn’t charge for the final games. That they feel the community should get to play these games for free. That I was surprised about. They did say they wanted to figure out a way to monetize it though.

I bet they'll work on monetizing by 'hiring' the biggest community sellers and moving those games to XBLA in some fashion, either by upgrading or by just cutting off the free version and selling the exact same thing + achievements.
