Which would give better quality on a 48" 720p/1080i tv? Thanks in advance, and sorry if the thread is unnecessary :(

They're pretty close, probably not worth agonizing over either way. Early on the VGA provided worse color, but they patched it and now it's pretty neck-and-neck.
The one advantage the VGA will give you is upscaling regular DVDs/allowing HD DVDs to display at up to 1080p. The component cables don't let you upscale DVDs and only will get you up to 1080i for HD DVDs.
Both will allow you to get 1080p for games, not that it matters in your case.

Whoa, how does VGA allow for upscaling? I thought the 360 couldn't do that. Are you speaking of with the HD-DVD add on, or with the xbox drive itself?
