This is good news for PC gaming. DirectX10 capability at a more reasonable price point.

Personally I think I'll hold out for the more powerful 9000 series cards, but there's nothing wrong with this one!

i think ill stick with my 8800 gt for a bit..

Damn, Nvidia is just pummeling ATI...

Too bad I need to upgrade my mobo first... otherwise, I'd be all over this.

Could these companies come up with more convoluted naming schemes? I'm using a Radeon 9800 right now...and you tell me NVIDIA is coming out with a 9800 series of its own?

Oh well, I'm fed up with ATI anyway.

Hope after this gen they go back to model numbers less than 100. Geforce 10 would suffice.

ATI's control panel is a POS. My biggest beef is that its aspect ratio feature (to play old 4:3 games on a 16:10 widescreen) doesn't work. Even an ATI beta tester told me it's really only for laptops. And if you search the interweb, you'll find plenty of people begging ATI to implement a feature NVIDIA has had for some time.

Edit: At this point, what NVIDIA card is considered "one step" above the 9600GT?

Wow, for this price the 8xxx series chips really look like dogs now. I'm glad I held off on the 8600GT purchase.

It's still $100 more then my 8600GT 512MB OC PNY that runs Crysis decently on Medium settings, which is obviously the only game I have issues running (I recently bought Oblivion for the pc $7 shipped to fool around with. Looking at this years releases there doesn't seem to be any PC exclusive games that will require excessive requirements, but having a better graphics card always helps. I think Starcraft II will be the back breaker for me if I can't get it to run at high settings with little FPS loss, but knowing Blizzard they will cater to lower end systems (as they always have) to increase sales.

Just nice to know that NVIDIA is offering lower cost cards to those unwilling to spend a lot on graphics card. $200 is a pretty good entry price for what looks like only a 10% hit on overall performance compared to a 8800GT 512mb. But at the same time we just saw 8800GT's hit the $200 sub price range on newegg not to long ago.

I grabbed this one and had no issues and seemed like one of the best bets for $100 or less cards that can actually run Crysis on medium, near high, settings with 35fps+.

They just announced that the 9 series cards are coming starting in march.

Looks like I am gonna stepup to the 9800gx2.

I would wait for the 9800 to see what it brings.

If the 9800 cards aren't coming out until November, forget it, I need to just go ahead and buy my new computer now.

im happy with my 8800gt but i want to keep an eye on the 9800 gt..

i would be interested in maybe flipping/selling my current card to get the 9800

i dont have an evga unfortunately

This is pure speculation...

I have heard $500 for the gx2, $400 for the gtx, and $300 for the gt. Things are constantly in flux and who knows what they will do if ATI releases something new.

The supply for them is so ridiculously low and margins low as well that companies will price them $50 higher.

These days these sub $200 cards they just can't get the yields on these so they release them at that MSRP just to have it on paper, but he reality is different.

I was just doing some reason on outputting true hd/pcm out of my pc (to watch hd dvd/bd movies) and started looking.. i think ati has a card with hdmi

not entirely sure, but i think that ati's 3800 series was the first to do this. So that would be a no unless the soon to be released 9000 series from nvidia can do it.

holy crap that card looks insane... the optical out though wouldnt be able to carry a true hd signal.. Most onboard sound systems at this point have optical out.

Nice looking card though and decent price
