Well for those rich CAG's who can afford a $1500+ keyboard, here it comes. This keyboard has a lot of potential for customization but with that price tag it's just too much.

Guess we will have to wait 5 years or so before it becomes under 100 bucks as technology advances and makes these things cheaper.
Review is up with pics!

Heh, I'd have to designate my work station as a clean zone; no way I'd want food crumbs and other crap messing up a $1500 keyboard. And I bet you can't run the Optimus through the dishwasher :)

No they are keys, that have small oled screens in them.

reading that actuly pissed me off. Just the idea that this thing is being made and people shelling out for it shows just how retarded humans can be!

I thought I remembered this from a while back. Here's the old thread on this keyboard from back in '05/'06:

Neat concept, but as others have said it's way overpriced (for now).

That's what I was thinking. Someone first showed me this at least 2 years ago, and I just assumed it was a pipe dream & would never see the light of day. Of course, at $1500 it might as well not have...
wtf is the point of this?
It could be pretty cool for programmable keys or hot keys to have an icon of what they're for. The keys can also change, so in a game they could have icons indicating their use instead of you just having to remember.
Again, that isn't a function that's worth anywhere close to the asking price, but would be very cool for $100 or less.

This is pretty cool stuff, but I would wait a (probably long) while before these become reasonably priced.
The main upside is that you can have each key say/show anything you want. Game commands, pictures, and I even saw once where a guy was playing video through one.
Cool stuff

Z-Board is finished
I'm going to try to get my office to buy me one of these. Who wants to bet they will raise an eyebrow when I give them the request?

I can think of situations where this would actually be really useful. Such as for a medical MRI workstation, and things like that, where you have many /many/ functions that would be neat to link to particular instances of programs and situations.

$500 is the starter price. It only comes with one active key, the rest do not have a screen.

Anyone noticed that one of the default icons on the left keypad is a picture of t.A.T.u? o_O

I am going to wait until some major tech site reviews it. They are going to pick that thing apart and they should...for the asking price people should get their money's worth.

From Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/22/optimus-maximus-at-long-last-we-bring-one-home-to-test/):
Typing on it, well, sucks. We kind of hate to say it, but this thing more than likely won't replace what ever keyboard you're writing your novel on -- it's better off used as an absurdly configurable swiss army knife for tasks like gaming, Photoshop, or just about any other productivity app that doesn't require a lot of typing. [emphasis added]
Optimus defeated.

Well this is only version 1 of the product. And as far as I know no one has ever put out an product like this. Of course it's really expensive, but video cards used to be super expensive and now everyone has one of those. How much did optical mice cost when they first were invented?
I'm sure 5 years from now when Apple puts out their own version everyone will crap their pants saying it's the most groud breaking product of this century.
It's good if you play a ton of games/apps. Or speak more then one language. Of course it's expensive, but I'm glad it's out and I hope in 5-10 years Logitech puts out one that has a decent price.

Well if you have gold plated toilets and private jets, I suppose the Optimus is comparatively cheap.

I would get this if it was around 100 bucks or maybe even 150 and I had the cash to blow. However that would only happen if all the bills were paid, no longer paying for school and car paid off. then I would think about it just to check it out if it also wasnt a shitty keyboard to type on from what the review says. This would be just something cool to have and even better if it was a good keyboard. I bet in the next 2 years someone will make one for under 500 or even under 200.

I thought initially $300 was bad. Now it went up by 3748372432%! It's sexy, but I'd wait on getting it.. when it's under 100..

It might be at least 2 years before we see a under 1000 dollars unit come out.
Before then Logitech might come out with their own version much cheap than this.
