View Full Version : APB--First Screens--New MMO from the Makers of Crackdown!!

--Game is basically going to be like a giant open world Organized Crime MMO.
--No Grinding or Leveling. Gain experience from basically doing anything in the world.
The hook to APB then is not leveling your character up and increasing stats on a spreadsheet. Personalization drives characters, Jones believes, and so as you get good and progress in the game you look cooler. A starting player will have nothing more than jeans and a t-shirt and stand out as a chump. An experienced player, well let's just say the difference is completely obvious from the start.
--Can be either a cop or in a gang.
--Late 2008 Release

Exactly what I thought of when I read this. I hope the talking is handled in the same mumbly way.

Gaining exp from doing pretty much anything doesn't necessarily mean no grinding/leveling.
The 360 definitely needs a good MMO. MS should through a truckload of money at Blizzard to bring WoW over.

Updated OP with info about no leveling.

Well there still has to be some leveling mechanic in the game, or they wouldn't be able to differentiate newbie and experienced players.
Sounds cool though. From what I've gathered it's mostly a PvP type game, without grinding on "Artificial Incompetence".

Color me disappointed. I would rather have Crackdown 2, not some MMO that I would need to pay for monthly on top of XBL's fee.

This looks sweet. I wonder if I could be in a gang but secretly be an undercover cop then kill all my homies while we're chilling at the crib.

True. I am thinking that they might do a free trial or something and then make you pay, or if it is free then they will definitely have a premium user type program.

I just started playing Crackdown last weekend, and it's a riot. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this.
I'm all for new IP and will be watching this, but damn I would have loved a sequel to Crackdown.
Oh and 2008

hahaha
I just watched the "Drive-By" video. Looks.. alright. Not too exciting. I'm still interested though. For an MMO, it's an interesting concept. I'm curious to how they'll mesh the MMO factors into this game because for the moment, it just looks like Crackdown.
wow this game looks great. Everybody said that 2008 is the year of the PS3. i was getting ready to get a PS3 this summer but look at the 360's line up. GOW2, Fable 2, NG2, Too Human and now this. There are also some out there like Alan Wake and a rumor that the sequel for Dead rising coming out this year. Who needs a PS3?

I wonder if they will actually have it so you can set up a house or police department or something. Sorta like how you can in WoW and the other MMOs.

NO! If they did that I would have no life =(
But as for this new Crackdown type MMO, I really...really hope they pull a Guild Wars and don't ask for a monthly fee. It would be a freaking HIT on XB. I've been dying for a MMO or a MMORPG.

The character customization is fucking awesome. I'm a bigtime sucker for making my own people in games look how i want, and this whole tattoos and scars thing looks awesome.

Maybe they'll go with no monthly fee to compete with The Agency?
I'd still love a Dead Rising MMO or some type of zombie mmo :-(.
