You need a movie playing program like PowerDVD

Vista should see the drive automatically when you plug it in.

Sporadic has it exactly right. Vista installs the drivers automatically, so you can read the discs and see the file structure. To actually play the movies, you need a software package capable of understanding the disc format and decoding the requisite codecs (VC-1, AVC, TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc). PowerDVD Ultra and WinDVD Platinum are the two most popular choices, though I'm sure there are others.

I just plugged mine into my vista laptop, everything installed automatically. You will need the HD codecs, however, as they don't install automatically.
