View Full Version : Biggest Gaming Pet Peeve

I'm playing Assassins Creed right now and falling deeper and deeper in love, however I discovered that Altair (the main character) cannot swim. I can scale gigantic buildings, leap five foot gaps then stab someone in the throat, and even take on ten enemies at once...but I can't swim?
Why do developers do things like this? I mean so far that's the only problem I've found in the game...and maybe the fact that you can blend into a group of monks with a sword on your hip and arrows at your back.
What little things make you guys cringe in your favorite Xbox games? From invisible walls to lack of a mini-map, don't pull any punches.

Well from what I read, the developers of the game had swimming in this game at one point but took it out because they thought it wasn't as stealthy as climbing a 3 story building.

I guess I can understand that. Maybe if Altair could grab onto the boat so you don't get a insta-death. I dunno. Not a big deal, still an awesome game.

LAG... It ruins all online shooters.
Hosts have a 100-400ms advantage over everyone... people who live closer to the host have an advantage over you.
Dedicated servers would help. In this case, whoever lives closest to the server still has an advantage over you though.

PEOPLE WHO KEEP COMING AND GOING OUT OF GAMES OF UNO ON XBOX LIVE! SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT OF GOING AND PLAYING IT IS IF ALL YOU DO IS JUST ENTER A GAME ONLY TO LEAVE?! AND IT'S ALWAYS THE SAME DAMN FUCKERS IT SEEMS WHO DO IT! LOOK HOW ANGRY I AM, THAT I AM TYPING IN CAPS LOCK!
Other then that, games with tiny ass font and ALL the announcers in Burnout games. I don't care what alleged witty insight you have or want to share, I just want you to SHUT UP AND LET ME PLAY HOW I WANT OR BETTER YET TELL ME SOMETHING OF USE LIKE HOW TO ACTUALLY DO A GODDAMN USEFUL TRICK WHEN I NEED IT.

I have a similar pet peeve. The other day I was playing the Turok demo and I was trying to find my way through the jungle. For some reason I couldn't find the path forward and I kept getting blocked by these lame bushes. So I can kill a dinosaur with my knife, but I can't make my way through a friggin' bush?

I use southpaw legacy (inverted) control scheme for 1st and 3rd person shooters, but it seems half of these games don't even include the option to change the analog stick layout. Seriously, what the hell developers. How much time could it possibly take to add support for something so mundane as that? I've made the decision in the past to skip a game purchase after playing the demo because for the lack of this control option.

About Assassin's Creed: In that time only a few people knew how to swim. It makes some sense, while it got me pretty mad at one time in the game.
My pet peeve is aliens. We have plenty of possible scenarios on earth, no need to ruin a game's realism with freakin' outsiders. It's not much but I hate it!
There's also invisible walls and highly scripted events à la Call of Duty 1/2/3. I remember crossing the whole demo level in CoD3 simply by running from a checkpoint to another without shooting. It totally f'd up the thing and germans disappeared behind me, heh. Same thing happened quite often in the first CoD.
OH! And the retarded survivors from Dead Rising... that could've been a GoTY... GAH!
Oh and also the quitters... those sons of a... AND shotgun-to-face shots that doesn't kill.
Something funny is that you can often kill people by repeatedly shooting them in non-lethal places such as toes. Heh.
Great thread BTW

Timed missions.
Grading systems that keep me from getting content that I paid for.
MISSABLE Content. "Oh, gee, guy, you should have traded that Geo Napkin with the Cat Girl back on the first island for the Portable Hickey /before/ the first dawn. Now you can't get all these weapons!"

The cover system in Gears. It's a pain in the ass to get stuck to the wall. I remember being on a wall and diving out about 5 times without getting off of the damn wall.
Assassin's Creed- After you beat it, there's no free roam feature. You just go back to a level and whatch a 50 hour cut seen(?).

Timed missions/parts of a game. I absolutely hate anything with a timer counting down. IDC if I have an hour to complete it. This gets me stressed out to sit there watching the timer slowly go down.
Escort missions, where the person your escorting has super crappy AI or doesn't have any weapons.

Timed missions can suck the fun out of a game pretty fast, but so can escort missions with brainless NPCs. *shiver*
Also hate JRPGs and their incessant re-coloring and power-upping of creatures again and again. It's bad enough to have to fight an evil flower that throws petal daggers at you, no need to have it change colors and gain stronger attacks and hit points two hours later in a different part of the map.

Mandatory Tutorials. Really A makes me jump, B makes me shoot, fascinating I never would have figured it out. Seriously I've played upwards of a thousand games in my lifetime, I beat every Tomb Raider game, I can figure out your shitty video game and what each button does. Make them optional so kids or other useless people can play them.
Also games I die it, they make me doubt my skills, seriously I hate that. And jumps that you only land if that back inch of your heel is on the edge before you jump, have mercy floating platforms.

This is a pretty specific one, but the interface in Mass Effect is driving me insane. I had to go to gamefaqs to find out how to throw grenades (the damn select -- er, "back" -- button). Another one that really seems counter-intuitive is how "zoom out" is mapped to X on the galaxy map when everything else is "B" to back out of a menu. Instead, B exits the entire map. I'm sure that seemed perfectly consistent when they created it, but instead, I'm constantly leaving the map when I just wanted to zoom out a level.

I can agree with alot of what you all have said. I hate timed sections just to have timed sections. If you're running from something I can understand it, but just to have timers is annoying. I enjoy exploring around games, and if I've only got 45 seconds to make it to my destination thats no fun.
That, and I hate having to play games on insane difficulties in order to unlock things. I play videogames to relax and have fun, not to curse at my television. Not to mention, after I've beat your game at the highest possible difficulty, there isn't much incentive to play it again now is there?

Boss Battles, they're just cheap and frustrating. Still, they happen to be in almost every game!! Even Guitar Hero!!! We lost our precious encores to fucking boss battles!
Also, I hate Tom Clancy games! Rainbow Six Vegas might just be the most overrated game of all time. I don't get whats so special about it.
Another thing, respawing enemies. I'm thinking about CoD4 veteran, which was a pain in the ass because every time you killed an enemy, a new one would magically spawn in place.
One last thing, Xbox Live for 360. Without a doubt, its better than Nintendo or Sony online, but for some reason, I always have trouble connecting to an online match in almost every game. This never happened to me on the original xbox and my connection hasn't changed. So some idiot at microsoft has added something that ruins my fun. I hope he dies.

Since this is in the Xbox 360 forum I'll say when the game asks where you want to save/load every time you play it, especially when you just have a hard drive and no memory cards in your 360.
To go with something more general, the fact that fewer and fewer games are including bots in multiplayer. Sometimes you just don't want to play with other people.

I hated the boss battles in GH3 as well.
My biggest peeve is when the final boss of a game considerably more difficult than anything that came before it. Seriously, I didn't spend 20-30 hours (or more) playing a game just to get my ass kicked several times on a battle by a boss who is twice as strong as you are.

A pet peeve I have is in weapon based fighting games. This started with Samurai Shodown where Haomaru slices some bamboo trees in the opening cut scene but he could slash a 100lbs chick wearing nothing but a gi and she doesn't bleed or lose a limb. And for somethign more current, Soul Calibur 4 has Darth Vader with his light saber and tha could cut through space ships but not a sword from the middle ages. Stuff like that where they pretty much negate the power of any weapon they try to build up.
And escort misisons. I have never once in my life said "Oh cool an escort mission".

I'm going to say any game with a really fun multiplayer, but a terrible multiplayer interface. What I mean by this is like how in Halo, if you want to play with a friend, they simply join your party and you're good to go, whereas in like Gears or TF2, you have to join a game and get your friend to "join session in progress." Seriously people, just copy Bungie, that shit works.

I'll add unnecessary escort missions to my list as well.
Pointless 'collections' also piss me off, for example:
A good collection game IMO is Lego Star Wars because after collecting the mini-kits you get money and a cool ship, red bricks you get a cool extra option to turn on, etc.
A bad collection game is Assassin's Creed. I don't wanna spend and hour running around looking for stupid flags that do nothing for me. I haven't collected them all yet so I may be ahead of myself but I'm willing to bet I won't get shit.
Oh and lack of check points. Every game should walk in Half-Life 2's steps and create EASY ACCESS CHECKPOINTS.

unskippable cutscenes is a common one, but I'd like it to go further have and have all cutscenes be PAUSABLE. I played some game recently that had this (maybe ff12, during the real-time scenes?) and it was great. I hate missing the story because I got a phone call or something during a crucial point, and my only option is to leave it going or (maybe) skip it entirely.
Yeah, I know I should remember about FF12 since that's my avatar and everything, but I picked this before FF12 came out (HUGE FF fan), and it was the only FF I didn't feel like finishing. I eventually did, but.. meh. That's another rant for another day.

Good call. The forced stealthing combined with the timer and having to do everything with the fucking stylus caused me to scrub my save files and trade it. With the exception of Majora's Mask which I never played, it's the only Zelda game I haven't beaten.

I hate back tracking or having to replay sections over and over because of poor check points/lack of save anywhere option.
I hate hard bosses that require a zillion hits to kill, yet kill you in a few hits.
I hate timed missions (so I really hated the Ocean King temple in Zelda: PH since it's timed and you go through it 5 or 6 fucking times. :bomb: ).
I hate open eneded, sandbox games where you wander around doing random shit until you stumble on the next story mission.
I hate games where you have to do mundane shit to get money to move on (i.e. Shenmue).
I loathe unskippable cutscenes, especially if they're right before a hard boss where you have to watch it all 20 times it takes to kill his cheap ass.

- Button-pressing mini-games FTL. Significantly reduced the fun of Mass Effect for me.

My three biggest pet peeves are children and racism on live and games that force you to buy a strategy to truly enjoy the game or beat it. Nowadays my strategy guide one is eliminated by the internet but I remember during the sega genesis yrs the anger this caused me as a kid. Having to buy a video that was advertised on the back of the WWF RAW game manual just to do special moves. Also I had to buy a strategy guide to beat Jurassic Park because I didn't know at the end of the game I had to kick a rock. The racism thing is self explanatory, being a black male I hate hearing some racist guy on my team in halo, COD, Gears etc. saying things like "I shot that Ni**er" I seem to get remarks like this once a day when I play and when I call the guy an idiot or something, sometimes half of my team gets on my case for saying something. I probably should play with CAGS I guess.
Another things that bother me is downloadable content for things that are already in the game. My last big one is the level of online whiners. I got MVP by a lot of kills in COD4 and everyone was like your not good you use juggernaut. Also, ofcourse they had to call me gay and other names as well. Then I switch to Stopping Power next game and still get MVP and the biggest trash talkers all left. Also, god forbid you stay in a corner for two minutes then your a "camper" and don't use martydom thats cheap too.

I hate to hijack the thread. Seriously. I really do.
BUT.
When asked what is my biggest pet peeve about gaming?
White American Males.
White American Males (anyone without an accent I assume is American) are the single most racist, sexist people I have ever heard. Yes, its online so there is a certain amount of shit talking that will go on.....but white Americans males seem to take it FAR FAR beyond just normal trash talk. They are so quick to drop n bombs, jew jokes, middle east jokes ect ect. Have lets not even mention what happens if a girl ever joins a game with more than one white American in it.....
I have been a gamer for many years. I have played many a game with all brits, all Asians , all whatever has there been trash talk? Yes. But only when dealing with White Americans will the trash talk solely based on racist comments of the worst kind. Hell a good chunk of the time just hearing my obviously black slight Jamaican accent will prompt 5 white guys to start calling me a $$$$a. I have also noticed that White American seem to have an undying hatred of British people..so much so that just upon hearing their accent will send white Americans into a complete tiff.
Again, I know its online. But to me if a person is racist online then they are racist in real life to. To me there is no switch that you can just turn on and be utterly racist, sexist but turn off along with your xbox. Hell you dont have to long any farther than the OTT on CAG....I think I am one of 10 black guys on this site yet I see the N word dropped many many many times. (none actually by me....maybe a couple dont really recall)
To be frank. From gaming. I do not trust white American males as far as I can throw them. So completely two faced. If there was a way to never again play with a group of white Americans...I would take that in a heart beat. I am a big soccer fan. So I have played many a fifa or Pro Evo game which has be vsing mostly people over seas. And I can go through many many matches without hearing racial slurs. Compare that to lets say.....COD4. Night and Day.

Well it's a pretty common game design theme to give players a glimpse of their goal at the beginning of a level. Of course, a barrior that makes more sense is prefferable.
I'll second the annoyance at a lack of Southpaw-Inverted control schemes in shooters. I muddled through Mass Effect but never really felt in control because of this missing feature.

My biggest pet peeve is getting lost in games, as in I don't know where I am in comparison to other things.
Overlord for example...No minimap, map, or a compass. All they give you is a print out map with the game that isn't even that accurate and the only way to tell where you are is to run until you find a city or landmark who's name pops up on the screen.

I never did understand the whole lets make fun of foreigners thing that goes on in COD4 either. I have made quite a few British and Australian friends on that game and they all pretty much say I am the only nice American they have met on COD4. That game does have a ridiculous amount of idiots and as a minority it pisses me off. I would never go as far to say white american males annoy me. Some of my closest friends are white american males and they have helped me out through hard times and one of them even almost fought a guy once because he made a racist slur about me as I was going to the bathroom that I didn't even hear. In other words its hard for me to single out a whole race because of a few idiots or in xbox live case, a bunch of idiots.

Thats kinda what I am saying but just a little off.
I have no real problem with white Americans. I have extremely close white friends who I would go to the ends of the earth for. But from playing video games I do have a very tiny voice in the back of my head that tells me..
"dont trust white people...if they think that just because they are online means they can people completely racist just think about what they are saying when you leave the room."
One of my closest friends who is white and I play COD4 every other night. Once he invited his friends from work to play with us. Within fucking seconds. SECONDS they were talking about how Mexicans(my future wife is Mexican and other really good friend is also so I took great offense) are spics, how jews or this, or germans are that. There is not a doubt in my mind that if I wasnt in the room with them they would also be talking about blacks.
What prompted them to do this? Hell if I know. But I turned off my xbox and swore to my friend I would never play with them again...and if I saw them in real life I would punch them in the face.
I have no problem with white people at all. But I am not going to turn a blind eye to what I experience's when dealing with white people. And if has a culture you guys think its alright to be complete racist, sexist just because you are not right in front of said group. Then thats a problem.
Also, it goes far beyond just a few idiots on xbox live. For one its far far far far more than a few. But one of my best friends is Mexican. He doesnt look it...he looks like a fat white guy. But he is Mexican. And the amount of times we have a been standing face to face with some white people who will just out of nowhere start completely bashing mexican talking about how they are ruining the world is un real. There has been many times where I have had to force able remove him for a room because some guys thought that just because we are not mexican its alright to bash them.
So its not "just xbox live" I go through this every day of my live. This is a thread about gaming so I left it to it.
Thats all I am going to say beacuse I dont want to hijack the thread with this.

I agree with you Soodmeg. I'm a white american myself but I can't stand all the racist people online and even in real life. I don't get why they have to be like that but it gets really irritating hearing every other race get put down for no reason at all.
But to get back on topic, my biggest pet peeve has to be annoying required minigames to advance in a game (yes I'm looking at you breath of fire 3). Great game until you get near the end and hit with a load of annoying required minigames.

I don't really understand not jumping as a pet peeve, it's a fairly useless means of transportation in real life. If Ryu Hyabusa couldn't jump... well that's a different story.

My biggest problem is what I call "Gang Rape AI". For example in race games every NPC car will hit you but they won't hit each other. It doesn't matter that your in 2nd and the guy in 3rd hitting you will cause you to both never reach the guy in 1st. The "AI" is going to hit you.
Or in an FPS the AI will shoot you first no matter how many NPC team mates you have. Even if you are behind cover and your NPC characters are out in the open they will still shoot at you completely ignoring the NPC out in the open.

I'm white & I get called the "N" word all the time just because I have a little bit off a southern accent. You would be suprised how often this happens. Maybe it's because I'm older guy with a deeper voice with an accent they actually think I'mblack, IDK but I've been muting my headset and not even putting it on unless friends are in the room. Oh, and the older guys are just as bad as the kids.
As far as the Brit vs American tiff as you stated, I think alot of the problem is lag and fact as soon as one of the two recognizes the other is in the room someone says, "damn theirs a _____in the room, and that's all it takes to begin an argument.
LIVE has become a "I know you are but what am I/I'm rubber your glue" type of kiddy name calling fest. I'm sick of racism, name calling altogether, and your mom/detailed gay refernces.
Ever beat a team or person and in the lobby they say "You suck", and you beat them LOL. How stupid. I mudered a 10 prestige on COD4 about a month ago "SIKWITHIT" and the guy actually took time to text message me saying "UR GARBAGE" with his motto "numbers never lie" so I sent the message. "If I'm garbage and numbers never lie, what does that make you"?
LIVE support: "our gamer's feedback is our moderator".

First of all, I think what Soodmeg is saying is pretty much sterotyping White American Males. I myself am not White (I'm asian). But, I've met tons of White American Males on XBL that are really friendly and nice. Just because someone is racist on XBL doesn't mean they're racist in real life. I'm sure at least EVERYONE on CAG has sworn, made fun of, or verbally attacked another player on XBL. The fact that people are so "racist" on XBL is because it's a shield. Most likely, you will never ever see the people you're playing with again (unless it's your friend). You can swear your head off to another player and the only thing that might damage you is your reputation -- which doesn't mean much.
Living in America, White American Males get all the shit thrown at their face. Fuck, anything that comes out of their mouth that SOUNDS racist is racist. People jump on the race wagon like that. For example, if a White American Male said "I hate that guy" -- and the guy happened to be African American, people would assume that the White American Male is racist. Although other races like African Americans, Asians, etc.. in America, I think everyone has it even. So yeah, like I said.
Probably the reason people make fun of each other constantly and are "racist" on XBL is because they can actually get away with it. If you're racist in the real world, chances are:
A.) You get your ass kicked.
B.) You lose your job, get sued, etc..
C.) Both.
If you are "racist" on XBL, no one is going to come to your door and beat the shit out of you. It's the only time besides the internet where you can go all crazy and swear to your heart's content. If you don't like it, here are some options: Mute the person, throw away your headset, Mute CoD4 Channel, or open up a Video Channel or w/e Chat Channel so you can talk to your friend. This shit ain't gonna go away in a long time.

I've got a few peeves although most (if not all) have already been mentioned.
1. Rubber band difficulty/A.I. - this upsets me the most in racing games. By God, if I have the fastest car on the track and have a 50 second lead heading into the final lap if I lose it better be because I messed up big time, not because the other drivers suddenly unlocked an additional 500 horsepower in their engines and go sailing on by me at the last second. Same thing for other sports games.
2. Escort missions - the closest game I've come across to having a decent escort portion was Resident Evil 4, and that was only because you could force Ashley into a garbage container and the enemy A.I. couldn't locate her. Outside of that, it doesn't matter if you're escorting civilians with no logic what-so-ever or (allegedly) bad ass special forces members, they all get in the way and more often than not get themselves killed. Would it really be that difficult to apply just the basic enemy A.I. to the NPCs you protect? That'd make them 10x more useful and those sections may even become somewhat enjoyable.
3. Save spots or checkpoints are too far apart - I understand that most games have a few sections that are designed to be more difficult than the rest of the game. Whether it's a boss battle or you're fighting 20 enemies at a time instead of 2 or 3. You will also likely get killed a few times before you succeed and move on. I don't have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with, however, is when the last check-point was conveniently located 30 minutes prior to said event(s), causing a lot of anger and frustration as you waste even more time to get back to the challenging part.
4. "Perks" that don't make sense in some conditions (glaring at CoD 4) - so, some jabroni has thrown the only grenade he has. He has none in his inventory. He knows it, you know it, and the CIA knows it. However, after you successfully kill him he somehow drops a magical grenade (that he didn't have two seconds prior) and it kills you. If you don't have a grenade available that perk should not be usable in that situation. Same thing with last stand. If you drop your handgun to pick up a M16 (complete with "n00b tube") to complement your sniper rifle you should not be able to magically pull out a handgun to shoot back in those five seconds before you actually die. If it isn't in your inventory, you shouldn't magically acquire it because of your perk. Period. That should be taught in Game Design 101.
5. Explosive barrels conveniently placed wherever there's more than five enemies huddled together within a five foot radius - it's terribly unoriginal and needs to be retired for good.
6. Cut scenes just for the sake of having a cut scene.

Your sig reminds me of a pet peeve that's pretty endemic to gaming in general: the "now"ness of online play. I played a lil' SF2 on XBL last night and it took a long time to find a single match - because people have mostly moved on. I'd like to try Team Fortress 2, as I've played most of the Orange Box but that - problem is, it's low enough on my priority list that, by the time I get around to playing it, there won't be anyone to play (aside from the fact that the PS3 version sold like $60 syphillis, I think).
If you're an online gamer, you really can't wait for a title to drop to $20 if you want a robust online experience. There are a handful of standouts that have longevity in online play (Halo will be high for years to come), but with more games coming out, let alone the "annual" nature of some titles, let's not fool ourselves: as good as CoD4 is, it may well be yesterday's news by the time CoD5 comes out. I just started playing Saints Row again, for instance - and I don't expect to find much of anybody playing online.
This is a pet peeve, though, that isn't going to go away, as there are so many games coming out, and with the money they make, there's no way that's going to slow at all - or even remain at the current rate, for that matter.

Hmp. But do you think that is more because of the nature of game companies making games that way. As in making them so that they only last a short amount of time by not spending the time to include a robust online game. Perks, level ups, customization, secrets etc etc.
Or do you think that is just gaming ADD kicking in, always wanting the newest latest thing?

It's very unsettling hearing a prepubescent voice saying "F*** you, you f***ing [racial slur]."
I like to be able to talk to people because I'm pretty competitive and want to talk strategy, but it's annoying hearing people be such invalids due to anonymity. I wish games had a more streamlined muting function. I don't want to have to wait for the 360 guide to pop up and navigate through a bunch of windows to mute one person.
I'd say one of my biggest pet peeves of games are when games are overly difficult to master. Sure it's good to have a challenge, but sometimes it's just not enjoyable. Dead or Alive 4 and Ninja Gaiden are two games I enjoyed, until it came to boss battles. Absurd. Good job Team Ninja. You owe me like 3 controllers.

I know it doesn't affect me at all, but if you actually do it, I don't think it's fair to complain about it. It's your addiction, after all, and you're the one in control of it.

I am in control of it, which is why I let the game sit idle and didn't force myself to actually play all of that time. i would have much rather had goals that actually involved me playing and it would have been just fine.
The same could be said of the newness of online games. if you make the choice not to buy the next installment at release, don't complain about no one being there months down the road.
They're both pet peeves, and we are both in control of how we handle and approach them.

When asked what is my biggest pet peeve about gaming?
White American Males.
Yeah stereotypes are definitely a pet peeve for me. Would I still be welcome on this forum if I said the same thing, but with Black, Mexican, Asian American males?
I'm not saying I'm oblivious to the amount of useless and childish gibberish on LIVE. I have certainly complained about it in other posts. I'm just suggesting you buy a slightly smaller brush to paint with.
My gaming pet peeves are the same as the others here. I'd like to include illogical puzzles that require me to get a walkthrough online. I respect players who need hardcore challenges, and hence difficult levels... but I don't want to bang my head against the wall to finally get through a level... if I can't figure it out in the first 2-3 attempts then I look it up. I'm like whoever else said it earlier, I play games to relax.

That brings up another point. One of my pet peeves is the 360 guide. That thing is horrid. Just plain horrid. It takes far to long to do anything on it. Going in and out of private chat should be faster than a 5 button combo.
Muting people should also be a simply button press. Because a lot of the time you have to go completely out of your way to mute some one. As in COD4 I have run into a corner and hope to god I dont get killed so I can waste 20 second trying to mute someone.

Yes you would. And to be honest thats the oldest cop out there is. You have to remember I am not sterotyping anyone or anything. I am simply reporting my findings. Also.
You are playing into this out right lie that I have no idea where it game from. That 1 single black person represents our entire race. yeah, just because Jesse Jackson cries about every little thing doesnt mean black people as a whole do. Most black people are fine about talking about race.
Stereotyping is thinking that a certain group acts or does a certain thing based on anything but your own experience. I have been on live. And I am simply reporting my findings that whenever I enter a xbox room and there is thattype of talking going on those are the people who are doing it.
You are trying to change it into something else. If every time you go into a room you hear black people being completely balls out racist then thats an why shouldnt you be able to say it?

Here's one that I'm surprised nobody else mentioned:
Short games. I'm not just talking single player, but some games just don't seem to offer enough content in general. Sometimes a game will only have a few maps to race on or only a few hours of gameplay and no multiplayer to speak of, and others just seem to have been quickie projects made to test out a new concept and rob you of the full price of a regular game. 6 to 8 hours of gameplay in a new current gen game is 8 to 10 dollars per hour. In this day and age, a game like Mass Effect, Oblivion, or Halo 3 is a godsend in a sea of short-lived experiences. These days it seems like almost every game I buy I'm ready to trade back in to the shop the next week or less.
Some games have short single player campaigns for obvious reasons like call of duty 4, which has a short single player but amazingly packed multiplayer components. Those games I have no beef with. It's games like Shadowrun and Heavenly Sword that I have a problem with, that just have no business being so short. This is becoming a really popular trend in gaming now though, and it's easy to see why because games cost so much to make now.

Bullshit.
I've ran into plenty of gang banger, ebonics talking black assholes on Live and plenty of Hispanic assholes (many who toss the N-word around all the time) on Live as well. And I've also played with many an awesome minority who was a pleasure to game with.
I'm not going to come on here and say my pet peeve are blacks or Hispanics, or even more specifically that my pet peeve is black or Hispanic males on Live.
My pet peeve is assholes on live period. Race/ethnicity has nothing to do with it.

Short games don't bother me much. Sure, they're not worth $50-60, but they're great as rentals or $20 or less pick ups down the road.
I used to bitch about them, but now that I have so much less free time I have no problem with a 8-10 hour game. Easy to get through when I have a day or two free, and great for playing in a lull between a couple big releases etc.
I'd have an issue if all games were that short, but with it just being an occasional big game here and there that is that short I'm fine with it.

Dictionary: ster·e·o·type (stĕr-) pronunciation
n.
1. A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.
2. One that is regarded as embodying or conforming to a set image or type.
tr.v., -typed, -typ·ing, -types.
1. To make a stereotype of.
2. To characterize by a stereotype: “Elderly Americans are the neglected sector of the fashion industry, stereotyped by blue hair and polyester pantsuits” (American Demographics).

Let's try to keep on topic of what in games piss people off. Rude / racist people have already been throughly discussed so we don't need to reflect on them again.
Anyways, I'll say repeated cut scenes that aren't skipable. Let's say you watch a cut scene, die, then go back and try again. Most of the time you are still forced to watch the stupid cut scene over and over!
And another one that no one's mentioned....REPEATED lines of dialouge. I mean please. Assassin's Creed, are all the citizens really gonna go back into their house and not likely come out again lol? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Collectathons. Seriously people, we've come a long way. Stop making us collect orbs, flags, coins, whatever. You can award a player for exploring game space/environments without falling back on tired, old NES mechanics.
Uneven difficulty (spikes). Huge stretches of easiness followed by segments of near impossibility. It seems these spikes are designed for the sole purpose of frustration. GoW had these moments with those damn Therian guards and CoD4 with those totally unfair infinite respawn points.
Ranking systems. Video games are fun, not work. Stop telling me I suck. -And when the hell did the letter grade system start including S's?!
Grinding. It's OK in small doses, but with the huge volume of games being released every month, I just don't have the time. This isn't like the SNES days, when we had to wait a few years for another decent RPG like Final Fantasy 3 to come around.
Juggling. I hate when you can get caught in never ending combos in fighting games with nothing to do but button-mash in futility and watch your slow demise. you should always have the ability to tech out of a combo, damnit.
-I'm sure I could think of a few more, but those bug me the most. Achievements should have a whole 'nother thread, 'cause multiplayer, time, and multiple completion achievements are just as annoying.

Dude I am not. I am not grouping all white people in any group. I am simply stating when I go into a room that is the group of people who are always doing it.
Its not an grouping of people. Its a statement of observation.
There is a level of talk that is accepted as internet trash talk. I find that whenever that line is completely crossed and stepped on its by the same group. That group is White American males.
Now if you want to disprove that...go into a room and listen for jew jokes, gay jokes, sex jokes, and tell me who is saying them. I stand by my words in saying that 8/10 times its the same group.

Damn that hit the nail on the head.
Collecting orbs and such is not a way to extend a game. A. Creed. Your game isnt 20 hours long if 4 hours is spent running in circles trying to find floating flags.
I would also like to add 1 hit kills by bosses. Again its not hard to give a boss a move that takes away 99% of your health. Its just stupid and uncreative.
Also since you were talking about RPGs. One of the things I hate the most is when your Kick ass Axe of Ass Kickery is just another weapon. As soon as you get it every other bad guy in the game now as a uber axe of super ass kickery making your 40 hours quest to get your sword worthless.
Looking at you Oblivion.

Amen, Brother. How could I forget 1-hit kills?! I would have liked No More Heroes a lot more had it not been for the obligatory one hit kill move you had to learn at every freakin' ranking. Of course, bosses usually only resort to their broken-ass, cheap one hit kill moves when they reach that last quater of their lifebar making you replay long fights. You can add moments of boss invincibility to that list, too. Why do I have to circle strafe waiting for the counter attack for upwards of two to three minutes?! That is just plain ol' bullshit.

Then you should have listed your pet peeve clearly as "racist white male Americans on X-box live" rather than just "white male Americans."
Even on X-box live, the majority of white male Americans aren't spouting racist crap all the time. You just hear it from them more than say Hispanics as there are a ton more white male American's on X-box live than any other group as that's the majority gamer group in the US which has the most XBL members.
It's annoying as hell. I file a complaint against anyone I hear tossing racial slurs around. But it's not limited to any one racial group, it's just more noticeable among the largest group as the largest group will always have the largest number of bad apples.

Little kids on XBL period are a pet peeve of mine. If they're not singing, yelling, swearing etc., then they're playing with a friend and talking the whole match about shit that has nothing to do with the game.

Not really a pet peeve but I wish shooters would allow you to carry any number of weapons as you want. I know it may look ridiculously unrealistic carrying 10 different weapons that include a rocket launcher like in HL series and probably diminishes the difficulty curve, but it certainly adds to the fun when one can select different weapons to make a kill.
Loved how one could use a combination of weapons and plasmids and kill splicers in numerous ways in Bioshock. That added a whole new fun element to the combat.

I never really got the gripes with ME since you can save anytime you want other than in combat. Yeah the auto check points are iffy I guess, but since you can save after every battle, it's pretty easy to do just that--clear a room/area and save.
But I'm a save whore (had over 200 saves in ME) as I hate having to replay anything, so I'm used to saving constantly in games that allow it. :D

Level Scaling- Whats the point of doing quests to level up, get better equipment and save the world if it doesn't even make a difference when fighting normal enemies? I want to feel like a god after I've spent enough time working on my character(s).
Locked Content- This is a newer trend and it has to stop. Nothing peeves me more than developers locking content already on the disc thats only unlockable to preorders/collectors editions or even content locked to be released later on the marketplace.
Rubber Band AI- Especially in sports games...if I'm pulling away all game, I don't want my 20 point lead in the final minutes to vanish because the AI can suddenly steal and make every shot, my shutdown goalkeeper suddenly gives up 3 easy goals, and the opposing teams running back can't be tackled.

A couple of new ones:
Same bosses 20 times with something slightly different (Metroid Prime: Hunters bosses) and 10 different sprites for 2600 enemies (looking at you, RPGs!)
Glitching/cheating online. What's the point of even playing? I don't care about single player cheating, but online it's just unfair and unrewarding.
Impossible achievements. 100000 pistol headshots, 200 killing spree, kill someone with a rock at over 100ft.
Unbalanced multiplayer maps.
Multiplayer achievements on game no one cares about (like Prey, for god's sake)
Racists, annoying kids, groups of teenagers kicking people just for fun, people defending a spawn point while the team is at the other end of the map getting the [objective thingy] and praying for help.
And I love n00btubes. I was freakin' sniping with my grenade launcher at GRAW (seriously, I got kills across the whole map quite a couple of times :D)

AMEN! I was really enjoying Oblivion (30 hours in) til I realized that was happening, then i stopped cold turkey. I was at a certain part where you are tasked with rescuing someone from many, many angry cult members, and I found out that going out and levelling up would do no good at all. So that was that. It sucks, because I really liked the game.
Now, a question... even with the level scaling, maybe your higher-level abilities/spells are supposed to give you an edge? Is that how I was supposed to think of it, or is levelling truly pointless?
Oh yeah, another BIG one: RPGs where the ability system makes every character interchangeable (cough almost every post-7 FF cough). See, I actually LIKED X-2 because its job system harkened back to the best one ever conceived: final fantasy 5. Job system with the ability to carry over learned abilities, multiple job inheritance. Pure awesomeness.

I disagree with this one. I'm 35 with a wife and kids. I love short games. COD4s campaign was just about perfect for me. I can break it up over a few days and get a sense of accomplishment when it's all over.

My pet peeve....effing advertising in a game- I don't want to read about the new crappy mountain dew flavor when I'm playing need for speed.
Dammit- I paid for your game, and I have to see adverts all over the place when I'm not playing- why are you sucking my soul out through these evil advertisements!
Also- I hate ugly people in games...namely in Oblivion- some of those models looked like they just walked through nuclear waste or something.

I'm going to say I have to go against you on all of this. The Black American Male seems to be the most annoying type of person on line. Maybe you've had bad experiences with White American Males, but I've had worse with Black American Males.
Every single time I enter a Gears of War match, I get some random Black guy telling me, and I quote "You gona lose, $$$$a." At that point, I just retaliate with racial slurs. He can use $$$$a, I can use $$$$a.
All the racial tensions in games that I play are started by trash talking black guys. Occasionally, I'll start a racial war over a gears of war match or something because I've run out of stuff to say, but for the most part, I'm not racist.
Don't even get me started on the Brits. The first thing Brits do is attack me for being American. I'm sorry for actually living in the USA. It's as if I had a choice.

Hmm. This is going to spin the thread again. (but the obvious is that he just typed it as a direct response to what I typed but I will give it a go anyway on the off chance that he is legit.)
But I have to disagree. I am not white so I dont know how Brits feel towards them. But Brits never argue with blacks. I played soccer my entire life. So I interacted with more people from overseas than most people. Never had a single problem with any race or culture and that carries to online.
Why do white people even feel the need to use the word? Who cares if black people use it. Its not a insult to white people. So why do you feel the need to also say it.
I personally rarely ever use it. But I feel its extremely childish for a white persons excuse to say it is "Well he said it.....I want also."
Every culture has a certain way to talk, every culture has certain things that they say or do to each other that is considered harmless but offensive if said by others. I listen to Mexicans call each other a set of Spanish words that I can only assume are either on the same level or just under what the word $$$$a is for blacks. But I dont feel the need to say them just because they do. Thats also holds up because I am black. Just beacuse I am black doesnt make me feel like I have to use it non stop. Again...I actually rarely use it.
The word $$$$a doesnt come up for whites unless they go out of your way to use it. Again. I have been around a lot of different cultures due to my soccer career. I have heard tons of racial slurs by groups to each other. Never did I feel the need also say them. I simply accepted that its cool for them to say and not me.
Final thought. To me using an obvious hot topic word just because "someone else can" is completely childish. There are more racial slurs in the world than just the N word. There are many words on the same level said to different cultures. Are you now going to make it a point to find and use every one just because that can? To that I would have to say grow up.
Also to start a race war for any reason what so ever makes you a fucking douche bag. Being racist isnt something to just play around in because you want to feel cool. I mean seriously. How does this sound. "I star race wars on XBL." Yeah but I bet your never said a single word to a anyone other than your friend in real life. And that goes for any race and any person. If you were a black guy starting a race war against whites, or mexicans, or brits, or mulism. Racist is Racist.

I like how DarkRider23 contradicts himself with this quote "All the racial tensions in games that I play are started by trash talking black guys. Occasionally, I'll start a racial war over a gears of war match or something because I've run out of stuff to say, but for the most part, I'm not racist." I like how you say all wars are started by black males and then you say occasionally I'll start a war. Actions like that are why I have my mic on mute half the time.
So DarkRider you should feel proud people that do actions like yourself are why myself and many other black people hate getting on xbox live most the time. You will never hear me use a racist term toward a white male or any other race for that matter online. I will call somebody a bi*** or a Bas**** but never call someone a honk** or spi** just because I run out of things to say. To put it bluntly its childish and ignorant. Its funny how half the time I played Gears of War and I picked Cole and would get called everything from brownie to the N word just because I picked the character that resembled me the most. Also, I never did respond with a racial slur, I would just call them a jacka$$ and put them on mute afterward. No need to fight stupidity with stupidity.
Like Soodmeg, I don't want to hijack this thread either put I have to say something when I see an ignorant post like that.

I just wanted to say that I agree with Soodmeg's rebuttal almost entirely, though I think what DarkRider23 was trying to say (albeit in a somewhat racist and ignorant way) is that reverse racism can be just as harmful and only helps feed society's institutionalized racism.
But Soodmeg you bring up an interesting critique of American society (whether you meant to or not), specifically America's education on race. The problem lies with how people are taught how to deal with race at a young age. We are taught to ignore race, or be "color blind". This doesn't fix the problem at all. People, specifically those in the dominant cultural majority, need to embrace the cultural differences of the minorities and allow assimilation to occur. Ethnocentrism will only break down and harm a society.
By the way, I study sociology if you couldn't tell. I could probably write a few pages on that subject but I'm trying to be brief.
EDIT: Forgot my pet peeve to stay on topic... Um... I really hate framerate drops, ESPECIALLY in sports games.

I agree with Soodmeg.
If your not a $$$$er, your a f aggot. It's really lame, and it really is the white american guys who say it. It's a shame that white american guys feel the need to call each other names, like a $$$$er and especially a f aggot just to be more..tougher? :-s
I don't know, but it is really stupid. Yes yes yes, I know we have a mute feature and we have an ignore/block and can report people but the problem is still there.
I never had a problem playing with black guys (american) though. I know what DarkRider means, but they aren't being racist. The ones I've played with were just bein REAAALLL ghetto  It's not racist, but it's annoying. 2 different things since I'm just a simple white guy
But yeah, it's one of my bigger peeves. Playing with white guys who feel the need to proove themselves. Sigh

Soodameg's example of the much feared "White American Male"
Darkrider's example of....well...Himself
also sexism happens alot, sometimes "GASP!!" a female enters a match and all i hear is, "Suck my dick bitch" or "get back in the kitchen" and other crap like that other than trying to pathetically hit on them, its kind of a drag since one of my XBL friends almost always gets harrassed like this when we enter a match together.

To actually add to the thread. I hate hype. I hate the hype that surrounds some games.
Its so bad that you cant trust reviewers or even the general public opinion on certain games. You can and will never been ever to get a honest view of how good Halo is. Because there are so many people who hate it just for the sake of hating it....and love it just for the sake of loving it.
That and the legal monopolies on sports franchise IE Madden and FIFA. No company should be able to corner the market on something like a sport. Thats bullshit. Stop being greedy for one second.
Sports bring in so much money by themselfs....why the hell do you need to have a contract with one company?
By the way, I actually hate halo 2 and 3.
I feel ya. This was one of my favorite/most ridiculous images from the Halo 3 launch...
http://www.foxnews.com/images/309597/2_24_halo3_launch_aargh.jpg
Between in-store hype like that and the Mountain Dew "Gamer Fuel" editions, I almost lost it. No, I don't own a 360 (my roommate does, and I have access to it). No, I don't give a rat's ass about Halo 3, but if my roommate buys it I *might* finish Halo 2 so I know what's going on. Please stop telling me that this game is the Messiah in disc form.
Nothing irks me more than poorly managed check points or save spots. I recently started playing the original Crash Bandicoot, and the save system is incredibly archaic - if you miss a bonus level, you don't get to save? WTF?
Here's one that I'm surprised nobody else mentioned:
Short games.
Oh man, this is a big one. I remember being so excited about Ultimate Spiderman, it looked so good with the cell-shading, comic-book style graphics, and I'd loved the previous game a lot. Turns out, if it wasn't for the forced errand running (gang fights, races with the Human Torch) and 1 or 2 absurdly cheap bosses who took awhile to beat, you could complete the actual story of the game in less than 2 hours. What a fucking waste.
And, not to beat a dead horse, but count me in for having absolutely no tolerance for the racist crap that gets said in-game. I haven't played online since the original Half-Life 2, and part of the reason was because I didn't want to hear or see what was being said (a lot of it was typed).

I usually have patience when it comes to dealing with things in gaming, but lately I have been really annoyed by DLC that we have to pay for, specifically DLC that should have been included in a game to begin with or DLC that would normally have been unlocked by beating the game. I already paid sixty dollars for your game, why the hell are you charging for an additional gun, level, car, song or wardrobe change.
Then again, maybe paid DLC would go away if we stopped paying for them.....

A couple of my current ones:
Gamertag recovery. It seems ridiculous to me that it takes anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes to download a gamertag if I have a friend over and we want to both play a game. It also seems like the recovery process times out and fails waaay more than it should. It usually takes 2 or 3 attempts to recover one.
Glitched achievements. I think achievements are great when they work and are creative, as they can add a lot of replay value to a game. That said, it absolutely sucks when you pull off a really tough one and the system doesn't give it to you. The worst example I can think of is when I spent a shitload of time going for Zombie Chopper on the Orange Box and the game didn't give it to me when I finally made it to the end of the level.
Poor save systems. I played through Dead Rising recently and that game can be an absolute bitch. Multiple times, I made it through about an hour of gameplay and then either died or had my 360 freeze up on me. I HATE having to do the same thing all over again just because I forgot to trek 5 minutes out of my way to visit one of the game's bathrooms.
Online multiplayer. I love online co-op, but don't enjoy the competitive stuff for the most part. Team Fortress is pretty fun if I'm in the right mood, but Halo 3, Gears of War, COD4, etc. just bore me to death in multiplayer. It seems like I always end up playing with people either way better or way worse than me and I quickly lose interest in the take & hold checkpoints, rack up x number of kills or survive for the longest amount of time types of gameplay. Oh, and the vast majority of online players seem to still be in middle school. Whenever I do venture into an online game, I have my mic muted entirely or set to a channel with a friend.

I think it's a voice modulator (it's that right terminology?). I think it takes your voice and changes it to like a robotic sound and what not if you want it to. It also allows you to have prerecorded sounds.
I mean I agree, it doesn't make sense and I can definitely see it being annoying. But my one experience with someone using one was pretty funny.

Did you continue using the gravity gun in the mine? You have to make it all the way out into the city during the day to get the achievement. I've heard a lot of people call that one glitched when they didn't realize going through Ravenholm alone wasn't enough; you have to make it that extra little bit.
That said, I don't believe I've ever encountered a true glitched achievement (just ones I thought were glitched until I figured them out). I do know they exist though - probably just overstated from gamers who think they are getting screwed when they aren't.
Although today I made it thru a level of Aegis Wing without getting hit and I didn't get crap. What constitutes a "level" in that game? Oh well. Serves me right for playing it when I have so many other way better games to get through...

The arcade scene has changed, I used to frequent arcades a lot last year, and people will say good game and shake your hand after a match of Initial D or even DDR. Why can't people on XBL be like that and just admit that they got beaten or just say good luck in the start of a match. Because people tend to act differently, when they know they are behind a screen or a voice coming from a speaker. You would be surprised how most of the people that talk crap and say rude and prejudiced things, would not blip a single word if they were in person with someone else.

Cone Challenge - PGR series - This is the only thing I can't do well for some reason ... I hate it. I have gotten all Golds on PGR1 and Platinums on PGR2, but I was actually pissed off with the whole game by the time I finished getting everything. Most people seem to donut the car to build up tons of points, which is totally not what the developers intended for people to do. It's the stupidest challenge in any racing game, and I play almost every one that comes out because I'm a racing game junkie. Most of the lines the cones lead a player through are inefficient and unorthodox. It's a total waste of time. What is most ridiculous is passing all the cones without hitting one and still not getting a Platinum medal. Uhhhh, shouldn't passing the cones in the time alloted give me a Platinum medal??? Obviously, the developers are stupid, so they force players to do ridiculously retarded "drifts" to make the combo and points meters go up. Fuck the Kudos system. It's garbage.
That aside, I hate games with unlockables or achievements which are too hard or extremely long. Meaning, it takes 60 hours of gameplay (an exaggeration in MOST cases) to get an achievement for a non-RPG style game. Or, the unlockable is so difficult very few can even do it. I'm glaring at YOU Virtua Tennis 1 for PSP. Stupid hidden rackets ...
I also hate how racing games have so many levels. By the time I'm finished unlocking everything, I no longer want to even play the game, which makes the online options completely pointless for me. PGR is the most atrocious violator, Ridge Racer in a DISTANT second and the Burnout series lagging quite a bit behind.

Man, I am completely with you on that one. I find myself getting really really bored rather quickly in most online games. I really enjoy tactical type shooter that take real thought and planning to take win.
You can rarely find that in any XBL game as it just boils down to running in gunning on almost every level. COD4, Halo3...they are all the same. The best one I have found was RB6V beacuse of the cover system. The great cover system made it so that people would actually try to pin each other down. That made me feel good.
COD4 is a great example of a good game that runs out of steam really quickly. I can only run and gun for so long before I am bored with it.
Thats why I am excited for R6V2.
I also hate jumping/climbing in almost every game that is not designed for it. FPS are horrid for both. Example why does it take like 5 seconds to climb over a 2 foot wall?

That mostly describes Devil May Cry. I have the same gripes.

When playing Rumble Pit on Halo 3 and you end up with three people on the same console and they team up. It especially chaps my ass when they do it in a game of oddball and hold out till time ends. I just want to extinguish the life of small animals when that happens:bomb:

My biggest pet peeve would have to be escape levels without a timer.
"You have to get out of there now!"
Do I really?
Maybe I'll just wait 5 hours. This place will stay up until the second I leave so who cares?

Playing mass effect just made me think of another one. Though in Mass Effect it does it right.
I hate RPGS that expect you to press the action button on fucking everything. I remember some PS1 days when I would walk around grinding into walls pressing X constantly just so I wouldnt miss something. Because the worst feeling is getting somewhere and realizing that you needed to look in the cup on the desk blended into the back ground back on level 2. Sorry.

Well, guess what? Not to sound like a total dick or anything, but those are your experiences. Everyone has different experiences. I never said Brits argue with blacks. I'm white and I see a lot of Brits online bash me for being American. I also get a lot of Blacks bash me for being white as soon as they start losing a game or I start trash talking as in "you got owned."
Why do white people even feel the need to use the word? Who cares if black people use it. Its not a insult to white people. So why do you feel the need to also say it. Why do they feel the need to say it to me? What if it does insult me? If I was racist, I would hate to be called black. Why do black people feel the need to say cracker? Whenever I'm online in a game I hear black people saying both the word $$$$a and cracka. Cracka isn't an insult to black people. So why do they feel the need to also say it?
I personally rarely ever use it. But I feel its extremely childish for a white persons excuse to say it is "Well he said it.....I want also." I also feel that it is a bit childish for a black person to call me cracker, but hey, who is arguing?
Every culture has a certain way to talk, every culture has certain things that they say or do to each other that is considered harmless but offensive if said by others. Why do black people even use the word $$$$a/$$$$er to begin with? Did they forget what the meaning of those words are? Did they forget where it originated? It's like their insulting themselves.
I never said I wanted to be cool. Call me a douche bag, I really don't fucking care. When someone wants to start shit with me, I will start shit with them. I should have said that I don't start racial wars for no reason. They're not even wars, really. Just a joke, but some people actually think your serious. Again, I'm not the one who starts the shit. I just continue it. I mean seriously. How does this sound. "I star race wars on XBL." Yeah but I bet your never said a single word to a anyone other than your friend in real life. There's where your wrong. If you've ever lived in my town and went to my school you would know of how ignorant people around here can get. Anyone from the middle-east is called a terrorist. Spanish people called spics, beaners and all that jazz. White people called crackers. Black people called $$$$ers. I've been called cracker enough in my life and I just retaliate with racial slurs towards them. Again, I really don't care what you think about what I do in my life. And that goes for any race and any person. If you were a black guy starting a race war against whites, or mexicans, or brits, or mulism. Sorry to tell you this buddy, but you're taking the term "race war" too seriously. I hope you know I meant race arguments in a joking manner. Doesn't seem like you did. Racist is Racist. Keep saying that. Just cause I say racial slurs doesn't make me racist. But whatever, you've never met me in person. You've never met my friends. I bet you you're thinking I hang out with white supremacists, don't you?
And I'm officially done with the talking of being racist/racial slurs. They happen in every day life. People have to get over them. Even if we do continue this discussion, it'll just keep going around in circles for pages.
Back on to the gaming pet peeves.
After receiving NFS: PS, I just realized that I hate games with shitty achievements. Why would you put stupid achievements such as beat an EA Moderator in an online match when the moderators are rarely ever on?

Seconded. There's a completely ridiculous Burnout: Revenge achievement where your forced to have your crash replay in the top 10 downloaded in the world...yeah...okay.

I hate in certain games, I'll be leveling hardcore, just exploring the dungeon. I'll walk into the next room and BAM, a huge bossfight and I haven't saved in several hours. Maybe it's more on my end of things but it's super annoying and stressful because I don't want to lose all the time spent.
Sidequests that take forever and the only thing you end up getting is some crappy weapon you don't even end up using.
I hate the trash talkers online. Now I'm not talking about the "you fuckin suck noob" kind of stuff because when I'm with my friends we love doing that to each other. It's more of those guys whose dick is directly connected to their game of choice (such as COD4). For the most part I play casually, and I end up in last place a couple times. In COD4 there will be some douche bag calling me out, naming all the weapons he killed me with, and overall just being a prick. I mean, I get it. You're good at COD4. I bet your mom is proud.
I also extremely hate when people start singing whatever bullshit happens to be on the radio. Hearing Soulja boy repeated 50 times before the match even starts is really annoying. I also hate those ghetto fucks who suck ass at the game yet continue to talk trash to everyone. Being called a white bitch, or honkey, or cracka is just stupid as well. But I guess with video games all the pieces of shit come out and spew their garbage on race or nationality.
People with shitty mics just suck. Sometimes I wish there was a mute button.

One of my biggest pet peeves is lack of save points. There's nothing worse than dying > < close to a save point, and having to do the entire section over again.

2/3 of the way through the single-player game or everything including the stats necessary for all the achievements? Because my sister and I blew through the single-player game in a day, it's really not long.

hosts ending multiplayer matches either right at the start or like 2 minutes in. whats the fucking point? why wold you even start a game if your gunna leave after 30 fucking seconds?
Its annoying, but its kinda funny if you're on a winning team and you get credit for a win for your challenges.
I hate voice on any game. I don't use my mic on my 360 and I hate playing WoW and using Ventrilo. People are dumb enough as it is, I don't need to hear how dumb they are too.
