Must admit, it's quite satisfying charging up a level 5 spell and unleashing it :D By the way...I just helped the Bandit's kill Giles but i can't figure out how to buy his home so i can open that door down in the cellar...help?

Getting off a level 5 spell is always satisfying, but it's kind of annoying it takes so long, I almost always have to let off a level 3 or 4 spell instead of charging up to level 5 and taking multiple hits.

I have mine setup so that levels 1, 2, and 3 are Force Push and levels 4 and 5 are Shock. I'm probably going to change level 1 to the Raising Undead spell or whatever it's called. But so far, Force Push for the first 3 levels has been working really well for me.

Is there any way to counteract the physical effects on your character using magic? I'm really, really early on so I'm not getting into heavy-duty magic use, but I don't want blue veins covering my character.

You get your fable2.com winnin's in the hero's guild cave thing (can't remember what it's called, but it's where you always go to meet Teresa). It's all in a chest on the other side of the center meeting area. I hoep that made sense, even reading it back, it seems very vague.

thanks for reminding me about that place. Thank you, I would've waited forever to get those if it wasn't for you!

Well once you've killed him you can't buy his house anymore. You have to go dig up the key from his grave or something I'm not sure cause I helped Giles kill the bandits =P

They kind of have to keep that site going. It's the only way you can get Dollcatcher (aka, the stupidest achievement in the game).

Actually it helps to get the Completionist achievement because of the "Feign Death" expression. You could trade for the dolls, but not for the one use expression (unless people don't want the expression)

This isn't quite a spoiler... but I noticed in that area you're talking about the dog often gets scared. Make sure you give it a treat/encouragement and explore around the back of the dead guys farm until it finds where to go.

Also, there are more than 50 keys in the game (I finished with 51 somehow) so don't lose hope if you can't get it.

Well I finally have time to get to this game...too many great games last month. I have to say I'm enjoying this just as much as any of the other GOTY candidates. I have one major gripe so far, and that is the maps. It seems like other people feel the same way, I just wish it was a little easier to see and that you could move a cursor around on it and just pick where you wanted to travel. Anyways to my question, how the hell do you lose weight? I've had a few beers and my hero just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I've worked all through the night chopping wood and no weight is gone. I want to be a slim handsome looking devil. How do I shed these pounds?

Yea apparently doing exercise does nothing, running/chopping wood, so I'd say go for healthy foods. Theres a special pie that makes you thinner too.

Any word on a patch to fix the glitch with the Crucible? I posted a few pages back that I beat it on my main game and was teleported outside where I am no longer able to move. I can access my inventory and teleport to other cities, but once there, I can't move at all.

Check the descriptions on the foods. Some give you -5% fat which will make you thinner. Most of these are at produce stalls. If you played the XBLA pub games and got all the unique items there's a pie that gives -90% fat which would put you back to your original size instantly.

I did the Crucible for the 3rd time, post Spire, and after completing it, I was teleported out like normal. After that, I haven't been able to move or anything. And it appears I am stuck, unless there is a patch or something.

I am just glad I had already started a new game before that point. Just sucks as I am now playing through as a good/nice guy, instead of a badass murderer.

I have to say this game sucks online. You both have to be on screen so if you want to go some place and the other player does not your jwf. Also It would not let me play as my character. I had a choice of good, evil and neutral male and female characters online. With the amount this game crashes and the fact that online sucks I think I'm done with it. Atleast for now. I might pick it up again in a few months but this is just sad at how bad this game came out.

i like the game so far, bought most of bowerstones marketplace, makes me about $4000 every 5 mins, i had 2 wives, no kids yet, probably not that far in the game either, i've been working jobs for most the game and buying properties

i also hate that you cant't see the maps up close and that i have to run to shops and house and read the damn sign to figure out what they are, also since i own most the stores in bowerstone shouldn't everything be free to me, i know i can take money out the register but YTF should i have to pay for the shit in my own store

i dont see why they couldnt make fable somewhat like oblivion

Can you teleport to an area if you're having someone follow you, like your wife (to move houses)?

I ended up taking one of the quests that had a moral choice early on when the ghost wanted me to break his fiancee's heart. I'm playing a good character so I ended up marrying her.Anyway, since I had just bought the bar, I had no money to buy a marital house, so I trudged all the way back to the caravan. A bit far to see the family. Will that work or am I going to have to run from the caravan to Bowerstone manually?

Also, where the hell is the inn in Bowerstone? I can never find it. I wish they'd patch it so there's a bigger map to view with all the locations marked.

Wow, you got the code??

I believe the gear will appear in the chest in the guild hall. You know, underground in that cave where Theresa hangs out. If you've already opened that earlier, though, to get other limited gear or something, I believe one of the traders will have your new stuff. Probably at the Gypsy Camp or Bowerstone general store.

Trying to figure out how far into the game i am... I just finished saving Garth...10 years later or something like that.

You've probably got a little more than a third left. Maybe even more than that, depending upon how much you did earlier. Sort of like after the world "ends" in FFVI. :) Or FFVII for that matter. For me, it was about halfway.

I'm thinking about finishing the game up quickly, and then waiting a few weeks to play again. I'll have a few million gold by then (making about 10,000 every 5 minutes right now) and while i'm not burnt out on the game by any means, i think going back and just having fun (which i am now) will keep the game fresh for me.

EDIT: overall, while the game is fun, i don't really have the sense that i'm a 'Hero' or even powerful. I use the same will power/sword/gun combos when taking out enemies...and i haven't really come up to a challenging fight yet. I've been knocked out twice i believe but i have the resurrection potions...like 6, so there's really no penalty. So that + level 5 shock and i'm good to go...does it get harder/more challenging?

Monsta Mack
11-10-2008, 01:39 AM

Same here.
However, once you reach end game you'll be getting 10-30k every 5 minutes(depend on your rent rate and shop rate cost) so it won't really matter, outside of potion sales maybe.

My final verdict on this game has to be B+ due to length and the lack of difficulty just like Fable 1. It's pretty fleshed out in comparison of Fable 1 but at the same time It's lacking in depth. Theres so much more that could have been added namingly a more fleshed out story line and more variety in monsters. Here's hoping they don't rape us with tons of DLC, or at the very least make it a easy pill to swallow like Lost Chapters aka real cheap. I believe DLC is going to be a pretty big thing in Fable's future just because right off the bat It felt like they left out quests and what not.

Like SynGamer said the difficulty is pretty much a joke. There is no real punishment in dying (OH NOEZ! SCARS!) and dying is few and far in between as long as you have a few potions on hand.

Again, overall better then Fable 1 but not by miles. I gave Fable 1 a 8.7 factoring in Lost Chapters, but I'll have to give Fable 2 a generous 8.8 because despite all It's flaws It's still a damn fun game and any game that can keep me occupied for several days without flinching at my other 100+ games backlog and knowing I could be playing Gears of War 2 has to get a A- or close to a 9 rating as possible.

SpecTrE3353

Just finished the game. I was a little bit annoyed at all the bugs and interface quirks when I first started but I felt the game really came together once you look past that stuff and get into the meat of things. Spoilers ahead:

The whole morality and decisions thing has become big in most western RPG's these days (KotOR, Fable, Fallout, Mass Effect, etc). I think the thing I liked about Fable's take on this the most was that it directly affected the gameplay and your appearance so drastically. At the very end of the game when you are forced to make that final decision, I was actually pretty conflicted. I cannot remember the last time I sat staring at a screen for so long trying to decide what to do (of course I took the money in the end but that isn't the point). I played a bit after the completion and was actually missing my dog and my chesty wife quite a bit.

Also, while the main story and characters start out a bit slow and distant (I can't say I ever gave a crap about Hammer or Theresa), it comes together a bit better in the end game as Garth and Reaver are more interesting, unique and better developed. I do sort of wish there could have been a more satisfying "last boss" as the giant shard was less than difficult and I didn't even really realize it was the last boss until everything was over.

Lastly, while combat has its good and bad points, I felt it really came together in the end game once I had a variety of melee moves, the ability to zoom and select my shots and a number of vastly different spells (including shock at level 5). The way experience, "leveling" and the combat system work are simplistic and you learn new abilities at just the right rate that you are never overwhelmed or confused by your options. At the same time, the combat is deep enough and there is enough variety in your attacks that it almost never gets old. My personal mainstay was using the time slowdown spell and summon spell so that I could be left alone long enough to unleash a level 4 or 5 shock and then clean up the survivors with my gun/cleaver. Really the only thing that brought the combat down from all this good stuff was the lack of enemy types and their horrific AI. Talk about dumb enemies... they basically stand there and let you break their heads open like it feels good.

I could go on and on but I guess the basic gist is that I enjoyed the game considerably more than I thought I would. I think it really hides its stride and gets better and better as you get further into it and your combat and quest options really open up.

Not really, honestly. But that's actually supposed to give you the sense of being a hero. You're strong.

They didn't want to make a game that was going to frustrate folks. I'm not sure why they didn't just use the old Easy/Normal/Hard option... I'm happy with it the way it is, but I know a lot of people want challenge; I only care about the experience.

the red x over the wedding ring means if it gets to that point of hate shes going to divorce you and leave the region, happened to me twice because i married a whore and moved her across the street in bowerstone lol

I ran into that problem a few times with a few different messages. It is an annoying little bug/issue where sometimes it will pop up a help message and it will just sit there forever. I also had a problem where I accidentally started doing a question to kill a few bandits and I didn't even realize I was doing it (just figured it was random bandits as usual). I killed half of them and ran off to do other stuff. For the next 4 hours of gameplay I had to sit there with a "Bandits Left 3/6" message sitting on my screen even though I was on the other side of the map. Really annoying.

I got mine as well. With all the brouhaha over people without the LE sending in requests, it's interesting that the email graphic prominently says "Accept the consequences of your actions." I've seen "Who will you become?" in Fable II advertising but this is a new one. Not very subtle.

Anyone without the LE try their code yet?

Well, you have to take what Yahtzee says with a grain of salt. His intent is to entertain as much as anything else; he says himself that the only games he likes are some of the Silent Hills, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and some... older game that I didn't recognize. :)

Thats true that his intent is to entertain however when playing I cant help but think that this is what Fable should have been and this one should have been more. Half the stuff I did I only did for the achievment and didn't care less otherwise. Hell the co-op was going to be in the first one but they took it out and in this one it doesn't seem like what I thought it would be. This game does nothing but lock up and the multiplayer is just crap. You can't play your character in someone elses game atleast the few games I have played with others I couldn't. The fact that armor has no value for the game and the weapons are someone the same as the armor. You really dont' have to upgrade them at all. This game is just lacking in so much that should have been in the first one and should have been done better in this one.

The Hoarder - Collect every silver key, or see another Hero do so

i have LE halo armor to give and/or also have the hat, mustache expression and dog backflip trick
and some in game gold as well.

The more I play this the more i'm not liking it. Seems like a step backwards , enemy types are almost completley from Fable 1 and the difficulty has become a giant joke. I get money for not even playing, can't die, not being able to run out of magic, no downside to being knocked out besides a scar that I suppose in theory is supposed to make you less attractive. Right now i'm running around with almost blackish skin , a glowing tattoo and scars out the ass with huge horns on my head and women are falling for me left and right . If Fable 1 was only a shell of what it should have been due to time constraints or whatever then what happened here? I agree the game should have been much more then what it is.

And my number one pet peeve is just how much of the food is geared towards making your character fat, celery is the only thinning food eh? So all those other vegetables mean squat facing the mighty thinning power of celery.

I, personally, thought Fable 2 was brilliant, and I can't wait for Fable 3.He also thinks that Portal is a gift from god for all to enjoy, but I can't remember what the old game is either. I love Zero Punctuation, and I think he is fair in most of his entertaining reviews.

The halo outfit and sword is badass. It is strange that they decided not to have different protection values for armor, like in the orginal Fable. I think they wanted all the clothes to protect you the same so that people could dress their guy whatever way they wanted without losing any of the benefits of heavier armor.

They made a fun game that I'm going to enjoy for my second playthrough while I try and get all the achievements. The story/ending could have been a bit more epic, but the combat, graphics, music, economy system, ways to earn money, exploration (with your dog), and many other things were done very well, and I don't feel let down by Fable 2.

And reading the post before mine, I agree that the difficulty was scaled back way too much from the original Fable which was already a breeze. And I actually rushed through the game and beat it because my dude was an old, rich fatass with an ugly face and I had no good clothes, yet all the girls totally wanted me. I scored with the whores, but I still wanted to start fresh.

I've bought everything i've come across and am making around 14,000 every 5 minutes. The economy in this game is a joke. As is the unlimited use of magic. Not to mention the difficulty is easy and there's no penalty for death thanks to the resurrection potions. Not that i would enjoy losing exp and such but...yeah, it's a joke. And the boss battle was beyond a joke, honestly, it's high on my worst boss battle list right now ever.

1) I want to sell the house set as my marital home to get the real estate magnate achievement. But, I don't see the option to sell on the sign out front. What can I do to sell this?
2) Where the heck is my Halo armor? I've input the code and did what the instructions told me to do, but it isn't there. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I think you have to move into another house then you can sell it. For the Halo armor it is in the cave where you talk to hammer and that one woman. Right before you walk into the blue light their is a chest. Open it and it is in their.

In a nutshell it isn't, the game is just really, really shallow. The ideas are there but none of the potential is realized. The dog which was hyped to hell really amounted to nothing but an animal running next to you the entire time. Combat took a nosedive since you can't die and magic spells became way too powerful and money becomes worthless after you own enough property and keep getting rent. I ran out of stuff to buy from shops a long time before I beat the game but kept getting money that allowed me to buy more property that I couldn't do anything special with.

After I got to the ending it also felt like the story was an afterthought , while I won't spoil it don't expect some grand fight to the finish here.

Fable 2 = Fable 1 + more economic/relationship options and a bit more simplistic combat

Anyone who's played the first Fable will find themselves right at home with Fable 2. If you're expecting Fable 2 to be leaps and bounds better than the first you're probably going to be disappointed, but as for someone who loved the first game I imagine you'll enjoy the sequel just as much.

Don't listen to us yammering here, though. Some of us have obviously had rather emotional, biased reactions, me on one end (love it!) and others on the other (hate it! --irrationally...--). Go read some reviews and get a good idea of what you're in for. (You might as well just buy it, though.)

Just get it EVENTUALLY (as in after a patch.) Take a look around and read about potential game disrupting glitches. Such as glitches with Marital Homes, duplicated wives, Abbot Glitch, Crucible glitch, Bowerstone Furniture Store Glitch, 6 Gold Coins in the intro section glitch, etc.

Notice a pattern here? I like the game, but I'm on my /third/ restart due to various bugs.

Like I said, I never had a single issue. The most that I ever saw was someone walking around with a chair attached to their leg.

I'd advise looking into the glitch with the Abbot at the Temple of Light. Essentially you just have to make sure you finish the conversation and don't exit while he's giving you the "mission" briefing.

I stopped playing this game weeks ago because I got a glitch where I cannot load my saved game. The bug freezes my xbox360 entirely. I've restarted the game numerous times as well as cleared the cache on the console, but that didn't help. I was pretty pissed off because I was trying to finish the game before I left on vacation. Oh well, I put the game away until they can come up with a solution because I do not want to replay the game only to face the same glitch.

I check on the Lionhead studios forum and it looks like it's pretty common. I am patiently waiting for a patch. :(

I guess opinions are fairly polar, because I couldn't disagree more. It may not be the longest game ever, but if you do all the optional stuff and spend time messing around with real estate, not at the main thrust but as part of "experiencing" the world, you could spend a lot of time in the game. As for replay, I think it has more than most of the games released this year, certainly more than many in the genre (except Fallout 3). There are so many different ways to go about things and watch the way the world changes to reflect your character.

The person who originally asked if they should buy it or not is probably no longer even reading; he probably already bought it, but we could debate forever.

This is one of the few games as of late that I could see spending $60 on. Not that I spent $60, mind you, but I do think I spent $50.

Don't get me wrong. the game is great, and I really liked it, but after completing it I can't see myself playing it much more other than the 10 or so achievements I have left to unlock. I 'beat' the game with around 22 hours played...and i still have achievements to go after as well as a family to rebuild ;) I Want to level all of my will spell sup to their max just to see which one is the most fun. But more importantly (to me) i want to go to a town and completely destroy it's population. Then wait a couple days and go back and see what it looks like. Playing this game, makes me seriously not understand what people like about it.

The game is so... meh. This game has the worst interface of any of the next gen games I've played so far. It's just so damn clunky and cycling through menu's is not fun; hasn't Lion Head learned from any other game? And I was expecting some evolution in terms of socializing, but its still the same HORRIBLE give some person a thumbs up for 5 minutes and than marry them (via a text popup) and than have a baby (via a text popup). I was hoping for more than "Sneak King" socializing... walking around with poor animations and than perform flourishes to make people happy. Wait, Sneak king did it better (and the menus are even better to)...

The social menu is so rubbish also... and how it sometimes doesn't show the DPAD menu is so frusturating. Also, running to load point to load point into eniterly different looking zones feels so unnatural, "Follow an UGLY ass, glitchy Bread crumb trail!" woohoo, we're having fun now.

I dunno, just everything feels so ugly and inconsistant. (Especially hate the ugly ass weapon unsheathing, body doesn't even move) Oh yea, and the annoying ass accidently pressing B and firing an insane lightning bolt that ruins your reputation... great. The only thing cool in this game is the dog mechanic, but its entirely useless because the interface just points you where you have to go....

Been trying to force myself to play...

I have to totally agree here, there just isnt that much to keep my attention here. I dont know why, but the "thumbs up for 5 minutes" bit really is boring. Not to mention the "work" really feels like WORK. It's tedious and there is little reward. It's actually worse than my real job.

And the 'accidental B press lightning strike' is why I ended up playing as "evil". I jacked up my rep so much I decided to just go whole hog. The combat isnt *terrible*, but it's only slightly less clunky than SW:TFU. I put it down a couple of weeks ago and I'm not sure I want to pick it back up. I'm *thisclose* to selling it back to GS/BBV. I just dont know if I choose to slough through the mainstoryline. I *know* I wont be playing many of the side quests.

Fable II adventures continue with downloadable content and free pack to release mid-December 2008

The epic journey begun in Fable II, the fastest selling RPG on Xbox 360, is not over. Starting mid-December 2008, fans will be summoned back into Albion's service with the release of the Knothole Island downloadable content pack. The remote island of Knothole is dying: its golden sands and lush vegetation are covered with snow, its people freezing, its treasures buried. Only a hero can face the trials of the three shrines to bring back the sunshine.

Following its release on Xbox 360 on Oct. 21, more than 1.5 million units of Fable II flew off store shelves worldwide in the first two weeks, making it the most popular game, across all platforms, in the U.S. in October. With the release of the first Fable II downloadable content, available exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points, gamers will be invited to set sail for Knothole Island, where new quests, wondrous items and bizarre characters await.

Also in mid-December, fans everywhere will be able to enhance their Fable II experience with the release of a free Fable II downloadable pack exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. To engage in co-op gameplay with a player who has already downloaded the Knothole Island content, gamers will need to download the free pack. Both co-op players must download the Knothole Island (Premium) pack in order to play new quests and enjoy the complete Knothole Island co-op experience.

Free and premium downloaders will receive a show of gifts, including Knight's Boots, Assassins Gloves, a special Weight Loss Potion, collectible silver book and more. Players will also be able to check their standing in over 50 new Leaderboards on Lionhead.com.

$10 seems about right if they're creating a new island with its own story and quests. I assume GTA 4's DLC will be similar, but it looks like it will cost at least $20. I'm definitely going to buy this if I can get a friend to split the cost with me. I know 3 or 4 people that bought Fable 2, but I think they are all going to sell it.

This sounds pretty good considering the game came out just over a month ago. Makes me think this has been in the works for awhile... but they couldn't hold onto this for several months since Fable would have been out of people's minds next year, which is what has happened with GTA 4.

More bullshit? I know they need to make money, but for an RPG this game was on the short side. And the FACT that this DLC was likely done BEFORE the game went gold pisses me off further. I'll put that $10 towards something worthwhile.

I'm with SynGamer, there is no way in hell this couldn't have been done already and in that case also no reason it couldn't be in the game itself. 10 dollars isn't an okay price for a game people already paid 60 for a month ago. GTA is out of people's minds but that doesn't mean out of their collection since the DLC was announced ages ago, it will still sell like hotcakes.

GO into your log (logbook?) under settings i believe and the game time is displayed in seconds (seriously, what the fuck?!). I've put about 21 hours into the game (beat it)...i still have about a handful of quests to do so i can see about 25 hours total which is an improvement over the first game but PM needs to stop hyping his games.

So yeah....that game was a complete disappointment in the end. I spend all that time going through mediocre combat, killing anything in a single hit with Level 5 Inferno, and all I get in the end is a final boss fight that makes Halo 3's final boss fight look like an epic battle?!

Seriously, Peter Molyneux can fuck off. Yahtzee summed it up properly: "You can, but why would you want to?" Oh right, achievements.

I think the disappointment is not determined by whether someone has a lack of taste, but rather whether someone feels that they are getting the time/money worth that they have put into the game.

For 14 hours worth of gameplay I'd say Fable II is enjoyable as a book, not an "Action-RPG". For any amount of money above $15 I'd say I was ripped off and did not get my money's worth.

Fable II has the same kind of flaw that Harvest Moon has, in that for a game that bases its gameplay over a prolonged period of in-game time, it provides far too many resources in the beginning that with a short amount of hard work, you can essentially play the remainder of the game as a "God".

In Harvest Moon, this flaw came from taking care of cows in buildings where time stopped, building up enough gold by selling milk and maximizing profit such that by the end of the 1st month, you can spend the remaining 2.5 years of gametime wandering around town doing nothing and talking with people.

In Fable II, this flaw came from the renting and magic systems. Very early on in the game I was already making 3,000 every 5 minutes, had a Master Longsword and Level 5 Inferno, and at that point I was invincible shortly before finding Hammer.

Ironically, Fable II did away with the epic final boss fight in place of shitting on all the hard work we did in their little sandbox world, choosing to rather bring back the most obscure piece of the storyline (i.e. the music box) as the game's ultimate weapon and in turn, rendering you useless (oh, but I guess you being the only one who can "open" the music box counts for something). But the difficulty curve of the game would've allowed me to run through it with little upgrading at all.

Don't get me wrong, Fable II has an awesome and entertaining storyline, but that's it. I watch movies and anime for storylines, I play games for storylines and entertaining and challenging interaction, and Fable II did not deliver that.

I don't know why I find it so hard to accept that you don't like the game. :) But I feel like if you focus on the issues with money and the magic system, you're missing the point. Similarly, it really is about the experience, not about the challenge (because, I agree, there isn't much).

But then again, I don't play games for the challenge; I play them for the experience, and if they're hard, I get frustrated and give up. (It seems like every time a new Grand Theft Auto game comes out, I get extremely pissed and write angry rants--somewhere--about how it needs an easy mode.)

I really liked the game. I liked playing around in it, exploring, although I didn't explore all of it. I'm still playing around in it a bit, but I feel a bit ripped off by the game's ending. It seemed slapped together, and ended in the most obscure and confusing fashion available (and depending on what you chose) feeling unsatisfied.

I picked the save everyone path in the end, and it's quite possibly the worst ending in the game, because everyone's bugging you like crazy, following you wherever you go. It's annoying. If I stuck with pure evil, at least I wouldn't have to listen to their whining. And the fact that I don't have a dog (worst design choice ever to lose it) because you can't fully explore the world after beating it, then. You can't do everything.

What's the point of an RPG if at some point the game tells you 'oh yeah, you screwed up 5 hours ago, and you can't do anything about it. Start again!' I'm sorry, no. I like the idea of playing a game my way, but I should still be able to do everything with what the game gives me, including the dog. But since you can lose it (again, a poor, poor choice by Molyneux) there's not much point to playing through everything again (including the XBLA game if I wanted the Completionist Achievement)

That's the thing though, without the money (which is very easy to get) and combat/magic system (which is far too easy), all you've paid for is a 14 hour walk in the woods with a cutscene every now and then.

This is really it to me, I started the game spending just a little time wood chopping to make money to buy a sword, bought some property after that . All good so far, but then I started getting so much money that it didn't make sense. Why is the reward for doing quests money when i'm getting money for just standing there? Not to mention that just insane choice of having rent accumulate when you aren't even playing the game. It broke the quest system because after that there was very little point to doing a lot of the stuff to get a reward I didn't need in the slightest.

But I can live with that to some degree, go get married and have fun right? Marriage and family didn't amount to much, gave the wife money, she gave me sex. Had a kid, kid didn't like me, wanted gifts. Gave them one of the dozen items I got for those quests I didn't care about and all is good in the world. Fable II was not rushed, there was no excuse for such a shallow system. Why couldn't I train my kid or hell even wife to fight? Drag the kid along for some Father daughter bonding time killing things? Give her a puppy even?

There are just tons of other things but the gist is Peter Molyneux had no excuse this time around, he had all the tools to make a game that the first Fable was supposed to be before it was neutered and instead took some big steps back in gameplay that easily break the game. The argument that well you're supposed to just sit back and enjoy the world doesn't hold up, peasant villagers constantly praising or cursing me but doing little else just isn't exciting.

My problems with the game were

Long load times. I've spent 2-3 hours sinply going from load screen to load screen early on (until i finally unlocked each location)
Weak combat. Why chain together an attack when it so much easier (and cool) to use Shock level 5? Combine that with a Master gun and you're pretty much invincible...but wait, buy a few resurrection potions and you have no penalty at all.
Weak story. Without giving anything away, the story was less than impressive.
Spam. Honestly, you think they would have learned with the first game that spamming expressions while funny at first, becomes extremely annoying. It goes against what they want us to do; make decisions. If i want a wife, i'll spam her dancing, flirting, etc until the bar fills, give her a gift, then a ring, and i'm done.
The Boss fight was a joke. Like i told HotShotX, when the final sequence played out, i literally said aloud "that's it?!" I couldn't believe Lionhead actually thought this was a proper boss fight considering Lucien is this powerful guy all throughout the game...
The Economy. Is horrid. God only knows how much gold i'll get when i get the game back but at a little over 14,000 every 5 minutes when i last played, i'm looking at easily 10's of millions of gold.
But worst of all, i never once felt like i was a hero or deserved the attention. I went on some quests, did some things, but everything was so easy that it felt more like training than anything else. I looked at my character and aside from some glowing on my face (will user) i simply looked older than i did when i started the game. You would think that as a will user (75% of my attacks were will powers) i would look a bit...slimmer, yet i was freaking built like an oxen and yeah, just poor design and gameplay choices all around.

At least in other action RPG games you feel some sense of accomplishment...but not in Fable II. It's a fun game. As you're playing you keep telling yourself "it'll get better" or "the final fight will be epic"...and as a sum of its parts the game is indeed fun. But then when you beat it (and discover the final fight is anything but epic)...i just felt like i wasted 20+ hours.

Since I beat the game last night, I'll chime in.

The game can be short if you bust right through it. If you do that, the story will suck, the game will feel shallow, and I wouldn't be surprised if you were disapointed.

But, if you spend time with the game, do the extra side missions, buy up real estate....do all that stuff, then the game is remarkably rewarding. I probably put in around 35 to 40 hours in all and I had a great time. The ending was disapointing. The story and execution towards the end just sucked. But, your decision still made me feel like "hey, I get to choose something significant here!" which I liked.

At the end of the day, I never laughed like I did playing this game. I never felt as much emotion as I did when I played this game. It was really good and worth every second of play time.

I am disapointed about the 'after the main quest' stuff. I wanted more side missions post-Luciens defeat. Plus, I have that glitch where my wife disappears and I can't finalize the retribution quest because that stupid ho won't show up. If I see her, I'm just gonna shoot her because I want to sell the house we're in for the "sell a prop for 2 or 3 times what you paid" cheevement. She never gave me a child, so I went and got remarried after this one disappeared. That second wife (and child) are the ones I consider family.

I'm willing to wait until its even cheaper, but ever since finishing Fallout 3 (and picking up Left4Dead, which is much less about an overarching experience), I've been craving something deep to get into.

Personally, i've gotten about 21 hours out of it so far, but the final "battle" dropped this game from an 8.5 to a 7 for me. All that work for nothing really. A lot of hype, like usual from PM. I would have been fine with the ending and such had i paid $25 or so. Thankfully i only paid $39.

Me personally, I played and finished the original Fable. I found it to be shallow, linear, and not as deep as it tried to pretend it was, but I think its significant that I finished it because I really finish very few games. I didn't even realize I had reached the end of the game until I'd defeated the end boss, and then some terrible transition marked the beginning of the lost chapters (played on PC with extra content already integrated) so I was certainly disappointed by the end, but overall I guess the gameplay and story and style had me interested enough to finish it. Would you say that in most respects its an improvement over the original? I'm tempted to pick it up if doesn't take any steps back from the original, and I can live with a lame ending, having already been well conditioned from the first game in the series. I just would actually like to feel like areas of depth that were really quite shallow in Fable 1—influencing people, buying property, relationships with NPCs, etc—to be, to some degree, deeper (or more satisfying).

If you think it was overall undeniably an improvement over 1, and has new features that make it deeper than 1, then I probably will stay up till midnight and snag a copy for 40.

If you like RPGs like Fallout 3 (long, open-ended, Oblivion-esque [but better]) kiss at least 30 hours goodbye. That's how it was for me. And I finish very few games, so that should tell you that it had some power over me. In fact, I hardly followed the game up till release out of skepticism, and was still impressed. Maybe that's the best way to avoid disappointment, actually. Same goes for Fable 2, I stopped paying attention after the first dog video reveal at an E3 prior.

Anyone know what it is? I downloaded it but I do not know if it is compatible with the NTSC version of the game. Tried it out and nothing new that I can see.

I'm guessing it's a language pack. Canada has an english language pack on XBLM that's 900+mb and also free.

Yes its the English language pack. strange that it wasn't taken down after people found out downloading it Unlocked the LE content.

I was wondering if some kind sole would help me get some co-op achievements. I haven't even tried co-op out yet but I'm assuming some easy ones are
Co-op Expression
Co-op Attack
and give a gift to a friend

If anyone could help me get these and maybe some other quick ones I didn't mention that would be awesome. I could do it still tonight or anytime tomorrow. Just reply in here or send a friend request to Frankysox. Thanks

If you have a second controller you can do those in local co-op. It's alot easier that way because you can press and release the buttons on both controllers at the same time rather than trying to time it with someone over Live.

I guess I'm missing something, but when I go to donate to the light temple for the one quest, nothing happens. I go inside, the one monk talks, and that's about it. A golden circle appeared in the middle of the floor once where the three monks around me would raise their hands in the air, but that's all they'd do. Is there some limitation that I'm missing to be able to do that quest?

Frisky, did you ever get your problem solved? You have to donate the right amount, and you have to be there at midday as well. It sounds like you already know this, though.

I'm having a problem of my own. I finished the Captain Dread Treasure Island of Doom quest, but as I was trying to get back onto the ship to sail back, I got stuck under the plank to get back on. So, I went to quests, selected the quest, and let it fast travel me back to Bloodmoon. I'm supposed to talk to Salty Jack, but he's not there. I think it's cause I fast traveled instead of using the boat. But I couldn't use the boat, as I was stuck. Not sure what to do now. Maybe I can find a way to get back to the island and take the boat.

No, I have no clue about what to do to finish the quest. I had at least $40k when I went in there and nothing happened, so how much do I need?

You might have to wait a little while (a couple hours gameplay) for the jobs to open up (especially the bartending), but those are pretty easy to stock up on money, especially the bartending. The woodcutting job is way too slow and tedious.

The first property I bought was the blacksmith followed by the bar in Bowerstone. Don't even bother with the small shops if you're looking to make money. The blacksmith shop should cost you around 45,000. Just make sure you entertain the owner to get the discounted price.

Well, I pissed away a lot of the money on those small shops! I'm saving up to get the blacksmith shop. Hopefully the bartender job will open up.

There is knowledge in the Fable II world and they're called books. lol I don't remember the name but the bookstore will help you out as one book tells you how to make money. I believe you should buy the stable/coach place to earn a lot of money.

I didn't try it before this, but go to the bookstore and buy the book where it gives you the come home with me option. Then you will be able to use that on your wife. When you click on the bed after using that, it gives you the protected or unprotected option.

I didn't ever try anything before I had the come home with me choice though, so maybe there is some other way.

Have you considered "sending her on a long vacation"? :fridge: And then getting another wife? My second wife NEVER gives me any sort of problem with anything. My first wife was a victim of that glitch where they disappear.

You select "Sleep". It will then ask Protected Sex or Unprotected Sex. It's weird they do it that way, but sex like sleeping heals wounds. After I'm done, I'll let my hero sleep for 12 hours after just for fun so he won't have to cuddle.

Most of those games are children of their times. I can go back and play FF IV and FFVI and VII... and all of them, really (except VIII due to the horrendously long summon animations and mind-breaking draw system), but if you're not used to that kind of thing...

Some say others hold up better than VII does. Personally, I enjoyed it more when I played it last year than I enjoyed it even the first time I played it, at which point I really didn't understand it or anything about Japanese culture.

It's tough to tell with older games. But then again, I find even some newer stuff sort of boring.

Yeah, you can still exploit it.

Clear your cache to get rid of the patch that fixes the glitch, disconnect from Live or refuse to update the game, and then go and play it to make money.

As for making the game easier...no, not really. The added money helps off initially with buying real-estate, but by the time the truly good weapons are available for purchase you'll likely have plenty of money for them anyway since there's not a whole lot that you'll need to buy on a regular basis.

I played through the first time with a ton of money and the second time as a standard character without a huge bankroll out the gate and didn't find any huge drawbacks to having less money outside of having to be a blacksmith/bar tender for a while longer to get enough money to start buying shops and what-not to get a consistent flow of cash coming in.

Finished the game the other day. While some people complain about the lame end fight, I didn't mind it at all. To me the game wasn't about building up to an epic battle, it was more of the journey to the end. Fun game overall.
