Agree with Snake Eyes. Loved the whimsy of Fable 2 (used that exact word to describe the difference the other day, actually) over the grit of Fallout 3. I've had enough with the super-realistic killing lately. I just want something a little on the lighter side and Fable was a perfect balance. Sure, it had heavy themes, but the way they played out was brilliant. Can't wait for Knothole Island.

Comparing Fable II and Fallout 3 is like apples and oranges yet everybody does it. ><

I've played hours over the past few days. I'm totally hooked. I find that I'll fire up my 360 just to chop wood or pull a few pints. I've got 2 wives and they're wearing me out, though. They want sex every other day and they're in towns that are 29 hours apart... All the sex was interesting at first, but now it's just getting tiring. :D

Any way to get rid of scars? I haven't been able to figure out the magic system just yet so I'm not as effective as I'd like to be.

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this:

(I'll spoiler it just in case)

I got to the part where you leave with Hammer on the dock and Theresa tells you to complete active quests because you won't be able to after you leave with Hammer. So I saw that I could do the Oakfield Massacre so I went and talked to the guy at the Shadow Temple and he told me to go meet Wicked Wilbur in Oakfield, only problem is... Wilbur is not there. He doesn't show up. I watched a video on YouTube to see where he was supposed to be and whenever I enter--he's simply not there.

I can't start the quest because the counter for townspeople never shows up and I have no bread crumb.

Anyone else have this happen or know of a fix? Thanks!

Does anyone know the rate in which you gain gold while the game is off? If I earn $200 every 5 minutes while the game is on, how much to I earn every 5 minutes when it is off?

And for the record, I'm not interested in cheating to get money. I know how to manipulate the system clock.

I'm not there yet, but I could have sworn I read about a big glitch similar to what you are explaining...though the update that we had should have fixed it already.

I haven't played in a while and was wondering today how much I'd get when I got back in. You really don't have to cheat to make a load of money in the game which is great.

Yeah, I've read stuff about this quest being glitched but nothing quite like what I'm experiencing. Seems as though some people get the counter down to 1 but no one is left in town, etc.

I don't know if it has anything to do with this, but I have an assassination contract out on a monk in Oakfield and when I went to do it earlier in the game I could never find him. Well, the contract period expired but the job never disappeared from my list. Now if I run around in Oakfield (when I'm supposed to be killing everyone) when I shoot one of the monks it plays the assassination music.

Not sure if that is what is screwing it up or what.

I have a question maybe you guys know the answer to. I'm really early in the game. The orbs that drop from enemies seem like they disappear very quickly. Are they just hiding or joining? Should I stop combat to collect them or wait til everything is dead?

It is a good question, I've been stopping to collect but often I get attacked while doing so. Early on I say it is worth the damage to collect the XP.

Another update went live today:
• The Ritual/Monk’s Quest — Fixed the issue with the Abbott becoming unresponsive if you leave Oakfield before he finishes talking. This will fix the problem if you’ve already hit it, too. • Rescuing Charlie/Rescue My Baby — after rescuing Charlie, you can now able to interact with objects
• Guild Cave chest — resolves any issues with previously inability to retrieve items unlocked from Limited Collector’s Edition, website or Chicken Kickin’ game. If you’ve already hit this bug you should now get your items.
• The Spire (Pt2) — no more issues with ship captain being unresponsive
• The Hero of Skill (Pirate King) — you’ll no longer get stuck during Hero of Skill quest (Bloodstone)
• T.O.B.Y./Trouble In Bloodstone — you’ll no longer get stuck during T.O.B.Y. quests (Bloodstone)
• Your child — will no longer be chosen as an assassination target
• Furniture Shop in Albion (Bowerstone) will now always have something for sale
• "Additional unspecified fixes" (their words)

So I just realized that none of the items I won in Pub Games ever showed up in my real game. I merged my character and nothing. Really the only things I wanted were the expression manual and dog trick book. Now how do I do it?

Have you talked to a games master in Fable 2 yet? There's one in most of the pubs and you'll occasionally run into a traveling game master. Talk to one, play a quick game, when you cash out you should get all your items and gold from the Pub games.

I have a question maybe you guys know the answer to. I'm really early in the game. The orbs that drop from enemies seem like they disappear very quickly. Are they just hiding or joining? Should I stop combat to collect them or wait til everything is dead?

They merge. The smaller orbs slowly group together to form bigger orbs. I'm pretty positive that the only way they'll disappear is if you get killed during combat. Or run really, really far away without collecting them first. So unless you're positive you're about to get killed just leave them until all the enemies are dead. That's what I did for my 2 playthroughs.

They do seem to disappear after a short while...press and hold the Left Trigger(?) while they are still there and they all come to you.

Keep circling around him, use fire magic on the Hobbe's but don't dwell on them, and keep shooting at the glowing red things above all else. That worked for me consistently.

Make sure to save before that round too so if you mess up you can just reload there. Try to get a couple of shots off as soon as he comes up then circle around and shoot. I made it with like a second left by just shooting like crazy for the last one that I couldn't see.

I just beat this game today. I'm excited for the Knothold Island DLC. Any word on how much this adds?

According to the interview with IGN it adds about 2-4 hours.

http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/942/942820p1.html

"IGN: How substantial is the Knothole Island download? How long do you expect it to take to complete all of the quests on the isle?

Lionhead: It's a typical size for downloadable content and won't take long to download. As with everything in "Fable II," how long it takes depends on how you play it and how much you want to explore and discover. It probably varies from around a couple of hours to over four."

So...apparently this DLC has what is known as a Resurrection Shrine. I guess to revive your dog if it died. Now, if this is the case, AND I can take that dog back to the Main Game, where I can go back and get the remaining Achievements and Side-Quests, I'll definitely get it, because losing a core gameplay mechanic like that was a major turn-off to me about the ending.

I'm going to go see if they give anything cool with the free download. I know that playing as a henchman with somebody that has the expansion lets you see a little bit of it, but I'm not sure if the free download adds anything otherwise. I'm on the edge of buying it also, but I have plenty of games that I haven't even touched, so I'll probably wait for a sale or something (if one ever happens).

With the free download, you get some items in Bowerstone Market if you're by yourself and don't have the Premium Content. Not many items, but still a nice idea to at least get the free content.

Worth it? If you beat Fable 2, but didn't continue doing quests afterwards for whatever reason namely, losing your dog, you should get it. If you've completed everything in Fable 2 before this content, it's not worth the 800 points IMO. But like I said, those who wanted to continue on in Fable 2, but couldn't or didn't, this one is for you I guess.

The quest only took me about an hour and a half to complete I suppose. But near the end I was rushing it and ignoring every Dig Spot that came up. And I still have to do the Item Trading Quest that's on the Island.

Still can't find the 2 books or the Purple Dye. Grr. I hate this randomized bullshit.

Just borrowed this game from a friend and only skimmed through all 54 pages and didn't see anything, but is this game ridiculously laggy?

Just finished up with the DLC. A tip for anyone looking for Regal Purple dye - I was able to dig one up just next to the exit from the Ice Shrine. I'm assuming the dig spots are the same between games.

Anyway, I've pretty much exhausted the game - except for getting the completionist and doll catcher achievements, since I don't really feel like spending more money to get the Pub Games expressions, and I don't have any friends currently playing with whom to trade dolls. Great game, though - I definitely had a lot of fun with it.

I thought Fable 2 was a top 5 game of the year, but the DLC....ugh

It took me about 1-1.5 hours to beat it. The rest of the time (about an hour) was spent trying to find items to get the 25 ach. points. Not worth 10 bucks.

Ya you do. Have fun with trying to perfect the fucking troll round. My advice is to not even bother and get the Daichi sword instead. It's after a dungeon in Brightwood Tower called Archons Knot. Google it, I forgot how to get there.

KingBroly

The easiest way to gain levels, and this is extremely cheap/sorta cheating is to Start a local co-op game, let the character pop-in, then sign that character off. Why? Well, the host gains that character's EXP when they go away. Well, I don't know if the latest patch changed that or not.

Only 2 more dolls to go now. Reaver and Lucien are the only ones I need, then I can focus on the final few Silver Keys. I just need to find pictures or video guides to help me find them.

When you use time control it slows down the time displayed but it still counts the true time it takes for you to defeat the troll. Don't know if they did anything to that in the patch.

When you're first coming up the path from the dock, go off to the left to the graveyard area and poke around there. Book II is hidden somewhere back there.

There are a number of allusions to the story from the first game and a bunch of jokes and other things you won't get unless you've played the first game. Most of that is seperate from the main story so even if you haven't played the first you won't feel like you're missing anything.

What's the reason for needing those books?

For the shop of secrets on Knothole Island I think. You have to trade them to get the items and there's an achievement for getting all the items in the shop.

I've got 700k gold (Franky - I gave all that gold to my wife since I didn't want to cheat myself out of earning that achievement. :) I did get the Philanthropist achievement by trading with you, though) and I've bought up all of Bowerstone, Bowerstone Old Town, Bloodstone, Oakfield, the Gypsy camp. All that is only 1.2 million. What else can I buy? None of those have any "big ticket" buildings, right? The most expensive things I've bought are the bars for about 60k or so.

Eh... the game is fairly easy. Only thing to say is that if you don't want to worry about money ever, buy property early. Easy.

... so, I was playing the DLC yesterday, and the more I think about it, I'd really like Fable 3 to go back to the time period of the first game. Might just be me.

01-17-2009, 05:46 PM
I finished the storyline yesterday, and there's not much left to do except doing some of the smaller side quests. I'm going wait until Knothole gets cheaper before I get it.

Tips:
Depending on your style of fighting (melee or range), get yourself a good weapon. Buy the best from the vendors/store if you have too. A good weapon makes your battle easier for you.

Making money is easy in the game. Just take a job (blacksmith, woodchopping, and bartending) and you can make good money in no time. Personally, I feel blacksmith takes too much time to make money, so I would suggest doing woodchopping until bartending opens up later in the game.

From what I remember it's just the Master Chief outfit and sword...not worth it, you'll end up changing outfits like you change your underwear. Just pick up the game now and enjoy it...it's awesome.

Is that all the CE content is?

Big thanks to BigMac for hooking me up with a random free weapon (Master Flintlock Rifle) and 75K in gold. Definitely gives me a leg up starting out in the game.

Started playing this the other night, and I'm loving it so far. I've only done a few of the early quests (I'm traversing Wellspring now with the abbott's daughter), but I like what I've played. I've already got a wife (Alex) and with the money Mac gave me, will be buying a better house than the gypsy camp soon.

Go to Bloodstone. Then proceed to the docks and walk all the way out to the very end of the pier. There should be a rippling circle in the water in front of the pier, where you can dive underwater and enter the dungeon.

I am not sure what is in it though because I never bothered to enter it haha.

I'm having so much fun with this game. My only disappointment is that it feels really short - I checked out the Fable wiki and found I've already done about half of the quests.

My character has already had three wives, and they've all met "unfortunate" demises. The first was Alex, though she just happened to be attacked by bandits while I was leading her into the woods. The second was a housewife in Oaksomething, and though she was nice and gave me gifts, I led her to her favorite place near the windmill and force pushed her off of a cliff. The third was a random wench in Bowerstone who fell victim to the augment of my sword, and upon having my baby, encountered several unpleasant zombies that may have been conjured by yours truly.

I used the sun key to enter the tomb and found some statues. The first one was the "chicken" stance, so I used that gesture and it broke.

OK, the second one seems to require the "point and laugh" gesture. EVERY time I use it, the statue knocks me back. I've tried sustaining it, and getting it in the green area, but I'm still pushed back.

Any one else having/had this problem, or am I obviously doing something wrong?

I got this for Christmas, but just started playing it a few days ago. Having a great time so far. Just a few quick questions.

When it comes to leveling up skills, I'm mostly a melee guy but would like a nice backup when it comes to spells. Should I go for all the level 1 Will skills or should I just focus on maxing out just one or two? Will I get enough XP over the course of the game to max this stuff out?

Also, I'm currently 3 star woodchopping and 4 star Blacksmithing and I'm at the point of the game where I got the first hero (Oakvale). I haven't seen Bartending show up yet. Does anyone know at what point it is available? My 3 wives are starting to get expensive.

Focus on one or two spells. Enemies get a lot stronger than your level 1 spells. But after awhile, I just stick to regular melee for close combat and sniping when they're approaching me. I didn't level up past 2nd or 3rd level of spells.

Actually, you're right. There really are a striking number of similarities.

I have to say that I felt more involved in the Bully story. That's on one hand; on the other, Bully had its frustrating moments, of which there were few to none in Fable 2. I did very much like both games, but while I could replay Fable 2, Bully I could not (I tried playing the Scholarship Edition and it just didn't grab me anymore).

Then again, they both had their problems, and I think the level of polish was higher in Bully.

I'd love a sequel to Bully. And Fable, for that matter (I'm avoiding the downloadable content because my character doesn't have anymore abilities to learn. Feels like it takes the fun out of it since experience is totally useless, and I've already got so much stored up anyway.)

Bloodstone is a fun place. It's where I got married the first time and set up shop. Lots of hoes and gigilos and lesbians. Good place to do the sex party achievement. I think I'll play the game through again as a girl and marry one of the lesbians there. But then can I have kids with another woman in the game? They have good weapons and augments there too.

(SPOILER ALERT)

Dangit I did save but I then saved over it without redoing the choices. Wish I had, I feel like it's pointless to wander the land finishing the last quests without my dog! I guess it's encouragement to replay as I mentioned above.

Does anyone think it's worth getting the guide for the game? I've spent alot of time with it, finished the game, done most of the quests. I doubt it has that much to offer, aside from saving me time finding the demon doors and statues and such. I am a collector, so I would enjoy having it anyway, but I could wait for a price drop until long after I've lost interest in the game.

The Stonecutter in Bowerstone Market sells them, but it's apparently random as to when they show up. It's a 4-star augment, and Google says it increases in frequency once you've gotten to Westcliff. It actually takes HP from enemies and gives them to you - I bought mine very early in the game (dumb luck, I guess) and it pretty much eliminated the need for potions for much of the early part of the game. I've got several higher-level swords, but I still go back to my master steel sword that does less damage but has the ghoul augment.

Weird. I was able to restart even after I made a choice and was halfway through the last cutscene. My only mistake was choosing "the needs of the many" last and now I have no dog.

During the last couple of hours in the game, my 6-year old son started watching me play. He liked how the dog would help me find treasure and warn me when the "bad guys" were near. So we were both shocked when the dog bit the bullet. Fable 2 might have horribly scarred my son for life.

A few questions I have for my fellow CAGs:

1. Is the Spire the midway point or a little bit beyond? Are there any tasks I should do before doing the Spire (I already started Westcliff Development, got married, had 1 baby, and finished a few of the side quests like Cold Comfort Farmer, Defender of Light, Slave Trader and another which I forgot).

2. I assume there must be some kind of achievement for this incentive, but just a few hours into playing the game, after buying my first house, I received 25000 gold -- I believe from another online player. Is this a glitch or is it something that player was doing that gave him an achievement for donating to me? Either way, I was glad to have it though, b/c I instantly upgraded my weapons.

3. What's the best way to lose weight? I guess I ate too many apple pie fillings for health regeneration, because I basically look like Dom DeLuise with an axe!

1) Use all the XP you can before entering the spire, you'll see why later.

2) Gifting something to another player is an achievement, you got some gold and he got an achievement for doing so. You can do the same thing the next time you see an orb in your town with the name of someone on your friends list on it. Interact with that orb, send a gift and get an achievement

3) As the poster above said, celery and nothing but celery takes away weight gain. You can see it in the stats for the item as Fatness -1.0% (or more depending on the type)

EDIT: Nevermind I found a way to get all the three of the achievements :)

Wow I did a lot of gaming today. Beat both Bioshock and Fable 2 today:) Yey!

Congrats, today was a good day!

I just got the game about a week ago and I'm hooked on it.. I randomly give out bottles of wine and beer to orbs wandering around lol.. What's the best way to make money on the game off of real estate?

What's the best way to make money on the game off of real estate?

May not be the BEST way, but probably the fastest.

Buy! Buy! Buy! Basically purchase every building you can afford and jack up the rent. Yes you will be a jerk - an evil jerk because this will affect your alignment and/or your purity. And some of the residents will complain about how high the rent is, so you can either evict them or kill them and rent out to another sucker...er tenant

And when you're not playing the game, the rent will still accumulate which means in theory that if you have a house that rents for $100 a month (game time), don't play Fable II for a week, next time you play, there will be roughly $700 waiting for you. Don't hold me to that equation, but you get the idea. One time I came back to a game, there was over $100,000 in uncollected rent.

Keep in mind that you need to be connected to XBOX Live for this to happen

I ordered this on Thursday I had it on release but I sold it after finishing the main story. It will probably arrive morning (took a little while because of Easter). I'm looking forward to playing it again I still got a few side quests left, I might get Knothole island and the new DLC sounds interesting.

I wonder how much money i'm going to earn when I first turn the game on... not played it since November and I owned alot of stores.

Does anyone still play this? I picked it up used a few days ago, and am loving it. Add me if you do, I need to work through some coop achievements.

A couple don't seem necessary. One might require co-op if you've done everything.

Is there a way to get my dog back yet? I didnt unlock any Demon Doors yet and I know some of them require the dog to open them.
