Rollcage was fecking sweet.
Hey Dave, I picked my receiver up for $314 shipped. And it rocks. I've heard of folks getting it for $300 or under, but I can't complain since I'm not in the "continental US".
Gonna pass on Triggerheart as I already have the LE on DC. Not a bad shmup, though, all things considered.
Tonight I will try to do yet another round of DMC4 / Oblivion. I've actually missed a couple of days of console gaming due to being tired or busy or both.

The only "gaming" I got in last night was making a makeshift bumtown in the Crysis editor, and throwing grenades at grunts that didn't have their AI inserted. They just stood around while I unleashed fury and watch the 20 ragdolls fly around.

Saying that's a good deal is predicated on the fact that you believe the PS3 is worth $400. I think $400 is too expensive and just because I'd be getting a deal on the controller and game combined, doesn't make it an attractive deal for me. I can certainly see where someone that has bought into the fact that PS3s are $500 would believe that this is a good deal. I haven't bought into that as the acceptable price for the system.
Just talking about me.
I know what you mean... I'm sure there are tons out there that feel the same way as well... There's such a big jump in price for the next gen consoles from the previous gen, it's outrageous... so I totally understand where you're coming from.

In regards to the PS1/PSN game list. Only one I'd care about is Tekken 3. :)

Seems that alot of people want RE4 controls for RE0, but I seriously doubt thats gonna happen. I don't mind the old RE-style pre-RE4 controls, myself. Once you get used to it, its not so bad. I kind of hope that if RE0 sells well, then they will Wii-release REmake, since I enjoyed that one even more than RE0.
REmake was the shit. I played through that game a ton of times. What I really want is for Capcom to remake RE2. That one was my favorite in the series. I just don't get why Capcom never used the character switching mechanic again. It made RE2 almost like 4 games in one. Oh and I agree about the old RE controls. I never had a problem with them.
Btw, how is that Sin and Punishment game on the VC?

Also, Disgaea 3 got announced for a US release...

Oh yeah. RE 2 was also my fav of the series, mostly because of the multiple character playthrus. Personally, I think they could combine remakes of RE 2 & 3 into a 3-way character-switching bigass game, since they both cover alot of the same ground (like the streets of Racoon City & the police department). Play as Leon, Claire, or Jill and depending on the order you played them, you'd get different events with several multiple endings. It would increase the replayability 10-fold.

So how does everyone rank the RE games? Here is my personal list(only counting main storyline ones)....
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil Code: Veronica
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil (GCN Remake)
Resident Evil (PS1)
Resident Evil 3 Nemesis

From best to worst:
RE4
RE2
Remake
RE3
RE0
RE: CV
Didn't like Code Veronica at all.

My list would be just like yours MM, except I would swap CV and RE 2. And Zero would probably rate just above RE 3. I put RE 3 at the bottom, because I still feel that it is the weakest of all the core RE games. It has to be the shortest. The mercenary mini-game was kinda fun tho.
I only really played RE:4. I just couldn't get into any of the others, although the original was sometimes interesting to watch when someone else played it.

Resident Evil 4
....
I should play some of the other ones I guess. ;) Horror's not really my thing in movies or in games, though. RE4 felt more like an action game than a "jump out and scare you" kinda game.

RE2
RE1 (PS1)

Surprised there are people who haven't played the RE games. Only because it's my favorite game series of all time. I would beat each RE game like 2-3 times a day for about a month period after each one came out. I know exactly how many bullets I should have in each gun at various points in the games...
Jesus_S_Preston

Yeah. I'm pretty sure I'm fighting him entirely the wrong way, but he basically counters every single move I try. I try to get close, he hits me with the dash move. I try to fight from far away and he dodges around till he can dash at me. I try to use my Buster to my advantage and he just rolls out of the way. Hell, I even tried Blue Rose in all it's uselessness and he just counter-shoots with Ebony and Ivory. I'm fairly sure the best way seems to involve using the top of the dais in the middle, I just haven't figured out how yet.
On DH, I just started spamming the Streak move once I got him to 1/2 health. Mixed it up with some combos and he never had a chance to hit back.
heh, just watched the latest Zero Punctuation--pretty harsh assessment of Uncharted, which I actually really enjoyed. I must admit I completely missed the whole racial stereotyping undercurrent, which I don't think was intentional. Anyway, it really didn't bother me and I'm asian (so maybe I should?). Meh, if I got mad over every little racist nuance I ever encountered in media or real life, I'd probably go bat shit insane.

I was just reading that Capcom is remaking Resident Evil Zero for the Wii. I hope they add a damn item box, cause dropping crap all over the ground and having to go back to it whenever you needed something kinda sucked.
Word. Either they were attenpting to present a bigger challange to the player or they felt, "It's totally unrealistic that a box on the train couldn't have the same items as a box later in the mansion/city" But those interlinked boxes were unrealistic as they are in just about every other RE game in the franchise.
The most unrealist aspect Zero and most other RE games have (and the one that really irritates me) are the insta-morphing-growing-huge bosses. I don't mind it morphing or mutating rapidly... but for an organic form to become three times its' original mass in seconds is one of those things that drives me bonkers. It ain't possible, I tell ya. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/cigar.gif

Oh, and for those GGT'ers getting Army of Two, which system are you getting it for? I'm assuming most will opt for 360, but I'm wondering if there's any benefit for going PS3. May have to wait for the reviews, which are rather tellingly not being released early.
I've only seen one recent preview of the final build of the game and it was mixed, though promising.

It's not a good game, but I've played worse. :-P
The voice actors are so stereotypical in this game I lol everytime some of them talk. I mean, they purposely give southern accents to most of the Americans so I thought it was pretty funny and amusing. The scientist guy has an English accent though
Anyone know if it came out as a budget title though? I'm kinda curious because I think I only paid a few bucks for it and this was a long long time ago.

Played a little more Lost Odyssey today, but I seriously can't play that game with any confidence anymore due to the fucking DREs. I'll be able to take this POS into BB this weekend though, so that should be the end of this problem. For now... I know there'll be something else when the next important game comes out (Ninja Gaiden II).
So yeah, my biggest complaint about Lost Odyssey is that it's on the 360. Basically, the only things I don't like about the game are technical, so... thanks, MS?

Ha ha, once you get his pattern down he is really easy. Only time I had trouble with him was the first time I fought him, since he was destroying houses like nothing I was a little intimidated. Main thing is to keep snatching at him for aerial attacks if you are having trouble evading, master the rev for the red queen for more damage, buster him when his flame goes out, and get the FUCK out of the way when he ignites himself. Just came upon some news that 25 PS1 games have been leaked for PAL Playstation store.
I suppose most of these will come to North America, but I really don't see anything too exciting, in my opinion.Actually, the way PS1 downloads work is that emulating is done region by region. The games Japan, Europe, and the U.S. get are quite difference, so if Europe list some PS1 games, the U.S. might get them, or might not get them. Like Japan has gotten some SNK games, U.S. got SotN and is looking to get Street Fighter Alpha, while Europe seems to be getting Vib Ribbon and others.
Last night I played a little Burnout Paradise, but didn't get much (only unlocked another car). Tried Road Rage and started out well, but eventually didn't make it. :-(
I was away from the GGT for a bit because I was having a rough time with my project (along with many other current problems leading to depression and other issues), that I actually considered killing myself (Those who have me on their AIM buddy list saw the away message). Most of that is over now.
You should get Lost Planet for PS3 instead. I hear it sucks!
:whee: :whee:I will get the game, but not for a few weeks.

3 more hours until I take my History test, then I can buy Patapon.
I'm going to mention videogames in the essay section. It deals with Asian and European relations during the sixteenth century, and how Japan closed Europe completely off. They didn't want their influence in their country, especially because they were going through a civil war. He likes how things can be related to today, so I'm going to mention how the adaption of 360 is lower in Japan then other places :p

March 21, eh? That's my Dad's B-day. I'll tell him the news, and call it his birthday gift. He'll be so excited! Okay, probably not. He'll probably wonder if Metal Gear is some sort of power tool.
Anyone got any opinion on the PS2 Metal Gear collection having a PS2 port of the original PS1 MGS? I think its a good idea, but I wish they would have added the VR Missions game onto it as well. Some of those later ones were tough. Never did beat the VR game and I wish I had hung onto it.
MarkMan
02-28-2008, 11:36 AM
I think it's a good idea too... especially for newer gamers that didn't play the original. It might be hard for some to find a PS1 memory card if it was a direct PS1 copy of the game...
So this is good stuff.
I can't wait to replay all three again the month before MGS4 drops. ;)

From what I've heard, the only change is that there is no disc swapping and it doesn't need a PS1 memory card. Just a straight-up port of the original.

No disc swapping, eh? And MGS2 Substance is included as well? Seems like if that's the case, I'll pawn off my PS1 version of MGS1 and MGS2S and hang onto my MGS3LE still. Yep.
So it really is MGS2 Substance on there, right?

'lo GGT.
Finished Kane & Lynch on the normal difficulty last night. There was some decent moments, but it's a thoroughly mediocre game. I wouldn't recommend it for anything more than $15 and even then only because of the very unique and pretty enjoyable multiplayer mode.
After that I made the mistake of firing up N+. I love that game, but every once in awhile you hit a wall of a level that you have to try over and over to perfect and pass. Frustrating, but supremely satisfying after completion.
I'll probably AC6 it up tonight and maybe struggle through a few more circuits on PGR4 just because it's there.

Yes it does.
5.0 Graphics
Visually bland and rough, textures look like they're run through some strange filter. Details aren't too sharp, and the environments look extremely rough. Not the best presentation around.
5.0 Gameplay
Wonky controls, loads of slowdown and a lack of depth or fixed issues from previous versions makes this lackluster port feel much older than the year that it took to make it over to the PS3.
5.5 Lasting Appeal
No unlockables, no accomplishment points (though the target coins are there), a shallow campaign and multiplayer that is plagued by slowdown issues makes it one for the hardcore Lost Planet fan only.

5.5 OVERALL
MediocreI wouldn't put a lot of faith into the IGN review. Not just because of the PS3 version, but because of the PC version too, which is said to be the best version of Lost Planet overall.
http://pc.ign.com/articles/800/800283p1.html
5.0 Presentation
Confounding story with characters as flat as the wall beside you. The user interface and rest of the package is serviceable.
8.5 Graphics
Provided you have a powerful system, the visuals are overwhelmingly attractive - so much so you'll be tempted to overlook what the gameplay lacks.
7.0 Sound
Poor voice acting is counterbalanced by booming explosion effects and crisp weapon sounds.
6.0 Gameplay
The T-Eng mechanic is interesting. As for the rest, boss battles only count for so much. Inconsistent controls, though smoothed out on PC, still prove bothersome.
4.0 Lasting Appeal
The few multiplayer modes are plagued by the awkward animations and aiming mechanics of offline play, and they don't seem to be working right now. Not much reason to replay the campaign.
5.8 Overall
All three games have different reviewers; therefore, different opinions. I know the majority hate Lost Planet, but there are some who do (The Xbox 360 reviewer liked it but not the rest.
GI gave the port an 8 and didn't really complain (which is 0.25 worse than the 360 version). It's averaging a 71% on Game Rankings right now (360 version does have the edge at 78% though). I'm still going to buy it, once I get a new PS3 HDD. There's no denying the PC and 360 versions are the best, but the IGN reviewer went a bit crazy with the review (and the PC one).

I watched a few clips of VC and it looks to be more of an action-RPG sort of game from what I can tell. The artwork and character designs look interesting.
Isn't Eternal Sonata or Blue Dragon being ported to the triple? I remember hearing one or the other was on the way.
Finally got around to seeing Casino Royale this afternoon. Probably one of the best Bond movies I've seen in a long while, at least the first 3/4ths of it. I thought the last 20-30 minutes didn't vibe well with the rest of the flick.

Eternal Sonata was the rumor. Blue Dragon, no way as it's published by Microsoft.
Casino Royale is sweet. The only recent-ish Bond to be in my top 5 Bond movies. Live & Let Die ftw, of course.

Well, it looks like the Wii-RE0 is a Japan-only release for now. Guess Capcom wants to see how well it does there first. If anyone is desperate enough to import it though, it seems as if the Wii-Freeloader is releasing soon, allowing you to play Wii games from other regions, so I guess there's that.
Apollo Justice is great. I guess I'm about half-way thru the second case. I keep wanting to "present" the panties I have in my inventory to everyone I meet, and I was tempted to do so in the court scenes. "This evidence contridicts that statement! Take that! Panties!"

Using the pad with these XBLA shooters is junk, btw. :pYeah. I did the sanding fix for mine and made all the difference. One time I grabbed a controller I hadn't fixed it on and was trying to play Half-Life 2. Now, granted, the weapon switching is not ideal in that game, but it's amazingly worse with an unmodded pad.
So, anyone playing Patapon who had played the demo? Any difference good or bad?

I wouldn't put a lot of faith into the IGN review. Not just because of the PS3 version, but because of the PC version too, which is said to be the best version of Lost Planet overall.
http://pc.ign.com/articles/800/800283p1.html
All three games have different reviewers; therefore, different opinions. I know the majority hate Lost Planet, but there are some who do (The Xbox 360 reviewer liked it but not the rest.
GI gave the port an 8 and didn't really complain (which is 0.25 worse than the 360 version). It's averaging a 71% on Game Rankings right now (360 version does have the edge at 78% though). I'm still going to buy it, once I get a new PS3 HDD. There's no denying the PC and 360 versions are the best, but the IGN reviewer went a bit crazy with the review (and the PC one).
Okay, then I'm not wasting $40 on the worst version of the game.

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/01/22/fcc-filing-for-ps3-updated-with-white-model/
And then this article has a new SKU called CECHH01, which matches the one on the FCC picture:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/15/ps3-model-cechh01-lands-at-the-fcc/
And from what I believe, the white SKU in Japan is CECHH00 (00 means Japan while 01 means NA). Seems to me like it is happening, just a matter of when SCEA announces it.
There's already an unbundled (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-98007-Playstation-3-40GB/dp/B000XGJH1O/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1204136187&sr=8-15) 40GB SKU floating around, but that's all black (and I believe that's the same number as the Spiderman pack, but I'll look it up).
Anyway, played some Burnout Paradise online last night with CAG. Pretty fun, but could not stay on for long due to getting very tired.
Okay, then I'm not wasting $40 on the worst version of the game. You can play it online on PS3, and I hear online is the reason to play Lost Planet. ;) That's why I'm getting it, for online, but not for two weeks. :-P

Then I'll probably pass on the white one if it is the 40gb, especially if it doesn't even come with anything other than a sixaxis.
I came upon this website (http://www.virtualnes.com/) that is pretty cool. It lets you play a bunch of NES games (765!) within your webbrowser. Take that, Nintendo VC. I was playing around with some Super Mario 3 earlier. Neat.

Although, what I do recommend is if someone plans to play a lot of PS2 games that support accessories, just get a 40GB and leave the PS2 around (since PS3 isn't too friendly with some accessories, regardless of adapter). Can you save PS1 games to the PS3 HDD on the backwards compatable models? All PS1 and PS2 saves get transferred to the HDD (when you buy a memory card adapter). you create virual memory cards for them, and can switch slots in game. You just have to remember to assign a slot for each memory card to work. And when you want to play the games on PS1/PS2, just copy back to a memory card.
Also, you can also backup the datasaves on a PC if you want to assure you don't lose them.

It's so weird to be done doing losta boring shit for school for a while since I just had two midterms on Tuesday. Lost Odyssey makes me feel better. I'll hopefully get a chance to bring in my 360 to BB today and maybe even get a quiet system. At the very least, I'll have the 360 at home, so I'll be able to hear what this game sounds like on my nice HT setup.
The depressing thing is that, once Lost Odyssey is finished, there's not going to be something this good for a looooong time. Not even Persona 3 Fes can replace it. I donno what to do :(

I'm set on getting the 80gb model. I searched several of the PS2 games on the BC list, and most either play without any problems (including the SMT games), or have very minor hiccups that are easily overlooked (like in MGS3). Now I just gotta see if I can be patient until the MGS4 bundle hits.

Nocturne, Kuzunoha Raidou, and DDS 1 & 2 are all listed as working fine on the 80GB. P3 isn't on the list but I think it also works. I'm counting on FES working.
Yeah, the games are all running on the same engine, so I don't see why Persona 3 wouldn't work.
Although, when I first got P3 and played it on my old 60gb PS3, I had audio issues. I seem to recall other people having some problems too.

I donno what to do :(That's the only thing about Lost Odyssey that worries me, because my 360 sure is loud (I tried to play Blue Dragon yesterday and could barely hear it). I do plan to replace my 360 anyway one day.
Coulda sworn SMT games were busted or not listed in the software BC list when I looked a while back. Might have been the Euro list where half the games I own weren't even released, though. Good to know!I believe not all have come to Europe, but I can't remember.
Actually, I really can't say. It sounds like you're going to be using the ps3 for video and all that, so maybe a larger investment now will be better than worrying about upgrading again in the future.Actually, I probably won't have more than 1GB of videos on my PS3 (they will mostly be game trailers. I just want a large HDD because I will buy several PSN games (already own 21), want to install ALL my games to the HDD that support it, and I'll usually keep around 10-15 demos on my console at once. The way I feel is if I'm upgrading my HDD, I might as well go as big as I can depending upon price (250GB is okay), so I never have to do it again.
Yeah, the games are all running on the same engine, so I don't see why Persona 3 wouldn't work.
Although, when I first got P3 and played it on my old 60gb PS3, I had audio issues. I seem to recall other people having some problems too.Although people may assume the 20/60GB have perfect BC, I'll admit they have issues with some games, mostly with the sound (Kingdom Hearts and FFX makes a weird menu selecting sound, but still fine).

Yeah, it's pretty annoying in a game like this, especially during the Thousand Years of Dreams. Like, I promise that my HT setup can go a LOT louder than the 360 can, but what makes those bits so cool is the light music and the moments of silence. If the new 360 is loud, I'll just shut it away in the cabinet I guess and hope it doesn't overheat. Should be less prone to that if it's a Falcon, at least.
But yeah, right now I'm playing LO using the front speakers in my Logitech Z-640 5.1 set, which cost me $50. Uhm... so I should basically turn in my pass to the Caviar Club, because that's ghetto as shit.

Just sold P3+guide for $80 (meh, small profit after fees), so hopefully FES will work. Assuming I don't play it on PS2 before I get around to a PS3.

Is there a list anywhere of games that work/don't work with the 80GB consoles? I want some BC if I buy a PS3, and I would rather not go on the hunt for a 60GB, especially with the MGS4 bundle coming out soon.

I haven't decided yet. I really don't care about Yoda or Darth Vader (though I tend to prefer speed characters) so I guess it comes down to previews/reviews/impressions. knowing SC2, there won't be a huge difference though.
Game comes out in the end of june, so of course I'll still have the ps3.

Finished Apollo Justice......I am not satisfied with the final case. It had potential, but then the last court case came up and, well, it was a huge copout, and way too easy. I mean, Klavier helps you out through the entire thing. WTF!? Also, they copped out by repeatedly slamming the "no concrete evidence" thing in your face, only to cop out of THAT by reminding you of the Jurist System, and makign you decide if the defendant was guilty or not. Plus, the guilty ending is a half-assed piece of shit! Not that the innocent ending is that much better. There's not even any communication between Apollo and Trucy concerning the fact that Apollo and Phoenix know about Trucy's real family, and about how who their mother is.
Total sham of an ending.

Total sham of an ending.I'm extremely ugly and get no loving (explains why no girl wants me other than FoxyGamerLady, lol). :-( I'll be single and lonely all my life, but oh well.
Anyway, I really plan to finally open Lost Odyssey today or Saturday. Right now my situation is a tad weird and I'm trying to figure out whether I should play games or not. Right now I'm trying to finish my project, but the only things I can do right now is test the project in a lab (I'm almost done with testing and if it works, I can move on), and then I have to enclose it in a lab. Unless I get luckily and find an open lab station today in a lab (lab closes at 5:30pm), then I cannot work in a lab again until Sunday at 5:30pm (I plan to go then also). So I'm debating if I should just play all the games I want and not worry about my project, until the actual lab time, or if I should continue to think about my project and maybe see if I can find any problems.
That's probably why my time management is so bad, because I tend to spend my free time worrying too much.
I might play Warhawk tonight if I can find someone to host the server for CAG. Or else, I might call up a friend and hang out tonight. Hmm, go out with a friend or play video games with CAG members online?

He's right. While girls can definitely be shallow, from what I've seen they're not nearly as bad as guys.
Oh and...Ice Climbers was the best NES game. There.
If I didn't have a PS3 now, I'd still want a 60GB for "full" BC, but that MGSIV bundle would've made it a bit less of a slam dunk decision.
The only other way I could think of to base a purchase on would be cost, so my overall recommendation would be to just keep the PS2 and grab a 40GB.
I preordered SCIV for 360, but yeah, I'd much rather have Vader and jump on dat triple, DLC or not. Plus the 360 pad sucks ass for fighting games. Oh well, maybe I should start looking for a VF or DOA stick again...

An interesting perspective on PC gaming from a PC game developer:
http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=42663I've seen the forums he's talking about, with people bitching and moaning about crashes, specifically ones that would happen during moments when the copy protection would kick in. There would be no message saying it was the copy protection halting the program. It would look nothing more than a natural crash coming from a buggy game.
So when you start seeing forums being flooded with people not being able to get the game to work (because they pirated it), it starts to make actual paying customers think twice about purchasing your product. Heck, there were fansites posting news items saying the crashing was a major problem.
I'm not trying to defend piracy, but not distinguishing natural crashes and copy protection kicking in really made the game look less than stellar in the public, due to the fact that so many people downloaded it.

PSOne looks so good upscaled like that.. Why can't sony release an emulator that does some of that cool stuff? Or applies filters or shaders.. I'd pay extra for that! Amateur coders have better emulation than Sony does on their own machines.
