about a month ago i bought a pc from dell. It was a decent deal, used a coupon, but then i see this
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/odg/q1wk4_email_jump1?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&dgc=EM&cid=27881&lid=637938
I paid about that same money without getting the 3 year warranty and I got a vostro instead of the core duo.
It isnt the end of the world. I paid the same money, for an inferior computer with only a 1 year warranty
I picked up a Vostro 400 w/ Q6600 Quad Core and 8800 GT video card. It came with a 24" monitor for $925...I sold the monitor for $300 today. Don't sweat the 1 year warranty, I have purchased dozens of Dells (current and former company) and have never had a problem with them. Besides, in a year or so you will want to upgrade anyway.

Vostro 200, Intel Pentium DualCore CPU E2140 (1.60GHz, 800 FSB) $590 after tax
is what i bought. I was really dumb and got the microsoft word, i forgot i had it on disc, and that was like $60 right there. I can probably sell it. I guess, i but it says "this is only for use with the PC". It is still sealed tho.
I guess the one i bought is slightly better in some ways, it has a dvd rw, the one in the one i posted up is only cd rw.
What is really killing me is the 3 year warranty, that thing could come in handy. And it wasnt cheap(i think it was close to $100 just for the warranty)
Besides, in a year or so you will want to upgrade anyway.
nah, i am not using this for gaming, i just need it for business- i am an actor, and need something like this to make dvd rw of my reel(the crap i was in that i send out to casting directors). I would have been paying fortune if i had someone else make copies of my dvd.
tho i have played a bit of fallout, something i never got around to

Dell changes their prices every 5 seconds, sadly. Best bet when buying from them is to just look diligently at your product's price at their site for a month (price protection), then after 30 days just try not to think about it. God knows how many times they changed the price and configuration of my Vostro 1000 after I had just purchased it.

YES. For 6 months I watched the computer I wanted (XPS 4XX) go from 1100, down to 800, and then up to 1500. I finally gave up, and my laptop died, prompting me to get another one. The laptop I have now ranged from 2000 to 1300, and then I grabbed it for 1000 with my school discount. I can find at least 4 different websites on Dell to build this machine, and the price will come out different every time. I don't know what the hell is wrong with them.
And yes, you do need the warranty for as long as possible. I'm going to hold on to this thing for as long as I can, even though this thing is like walking around with a fucking bomb. The first week I had it, it literally MELTED because the fans never came on. They sent me another one, first thing I did was install a fan utility, and a few hours ago, the hard drive was making little weird clicking noises anyway. This is my first, and my LAST experience with Dell.

i wouldnt recommend a dell laptop unless you get the 3 year warranty. I had mine break for every little piece for the first couple of year, and fortunately it held up for 7 or 8 years but it is totally obselete now
