CG just fails to scare me at all. I mean I watched Jaws the other night and it stills scares the hell out of my and they use some dummy shark. Why dont the do that anymore. But if I had to choose it would probably be the Anaconda from Anaconda.

CG fucking pisses me off. It is good when done in small doses, but it has become a crutch. Like in Day After Tomorrow, it used to be that if you needed wolves, you got trained wolves, but now they have CG wolves that look like they have wolf down syndrome. The Jaws comment made me think of the new movie Open Water. That movie looks scary and intense as hell. And they used real sharks, which is even fucking scarier because I'm pretty sure you can't train one of those bastards.

First off, yes, sharks can be trained, its just not terribly easy. But.. you're the first person I've heard say that movie looks good. I'm sorry but them being stuck in the water surrounded by sharks for 2 hours does not sound like a thrilling and/or exciting time to me. I mean what can they do.. bob around and punch the sharks in the nose as they get close?

I've heard its more of a drama about the struggling couple than a straight up horror movie. But in my city, they are gonna play it while you sit on the lake in a tube at midnight. Aw heeeeell yeah.

the little girl from The Ring. While she wasn't always CG, when she popped out of the TV, she sure as hell wasn't real ::shudder::

^ Finally !!! Someone else that's down on the whole reliance on CG effects in movies !!!
Don't get me wrong, I love technology and special efx...it's just that yes, CG has become a crutch. To me even something like Spiderman fails to impress because of all the CG rendering in it. I am fine with CG embellishments, but when main characters etc are full blown CG - it just sucks. The reason? Mass. Take Yoda for example - sure he bounces around like a superball now, but when he was a puppet, he had depth of frame, and mass - he looked like an actual THING being filmed. Maybe he looked fake, but at least it was a fake that you could reach out and touch. Same with all the spacecraft in sci fi films today - sure it's nice eye candy, but look at the modelwork in Alien, or Star Wars - in short, amazing detail with a sense of weight. CG characters don't seem to adhere exactly to real world physics...i.e. gravity, forward momentum, etc - these natural forces seem to often be left behind in lieu of that triple backflip somersault gainer while lighting a smoke and firing off 30 rounds into the nearest badguy. Ah well, maybe I'm just an old fart.

Death from the Frighteners
Yep, I second that, that's the my all time favorite CG monster.
What do you think the last great "practical" monster was? I'd say it was the Thing from "The Thing."

Doesn't matter. The film will make over $100 million, and the writer/director will be set for life.

Best CG monster? I'd have to say Shelob from LOTR Return of the King.

I really don't find CGI monsters to be scary but if I had to pick one, it would be the T rex from Jurrasic park. Also the little dinosaur that spits and eats the fat guy in the car - That was a pretty scary scene.

Damnit! I was gonna vote for the T-Rex! Well, I guess I just did.
Anyway, I also like the Balrog in LOTR. That thing was fucking awesome! EA put it in the new RTS game they are releasing and it looks DAMNED CLOSE to the movie version!

I'm not sure of the names of the monsters in Return of the King, but if Shelob is the giant spider, then I would agree... That thing freaked me out, it was so disgusting.

You nailed it on the head. I'm a little more lenient with "imaginary" creatures, but when a "real life" animal moves unrealistically fast or awkwardly, it pulls me out of the movie. Case in point, the Anaconda (from Anaconda) or the sharks from Deep Blue Sea.
But as for best CGI creature, I'd vote for the Acklay (the crab/spider creature) from the Arena scene of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. It was very Ray Harryhausen-ish, plus it looked freaky even in the daylight.

What about Shelob, the spider in Return of the King? That is a bad ass monster....Very freaky too!
I say its a tie between Shelob and T Rex

Where are they doing that at Mr. Anderson? Town Lake? Cause that sounds cool as shit. The movie doesn't seem like my cup of tea, but watching it while in a tube sounds tight as hell.

Although I haven't seen it yet, I'm sure Shelob will scare me since I'm a little afraid of spiders. Acklay was freeky, too.

I'd have to go with Shelob, the Balrogs, or the creatures that were in the arena scene in Star Wars Attack of the Clones. Anfd as someone put earlier, Jar Jar Binks is the scariest CG ever made.
