I was reading the GnF thread and was quite interested in $13 for 3 out until I saw the laundry list of awful experiences. It got me thinking that renting isn't a terrible idea if the price is right. I checked out GF but their prices are sky high. Blockbuster's (list) prices are pretty garbage too.

I'm looking for:

1. Less than $10 a month (or so)
2. Solid service (GnF need not apply if you get my drift)
3. Reasonably good access to X360 games (the only system I'm renting for)
4. 1 or possibly 2 rentals at a time is my sweet spot

Anyone know of any deals or promos that fit this profile? I'm looking for more of a permanent solution than a quickie 2 week promo that bumps up to $23 (a la GF). I have Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, and most of the other major chains nearby (I'm in Houston).

Thanks in advance guys.

Never seen any deal that comes close to your requirements, good luck and share with others if you find it.

My off the wall recommendation is buy new games, finish them in less than a week and then resell them for a loss of $4-6 bucks. It's a lot more work than renting, but you'll get brand new games quickly and cheaply, won't have to worry about not getting your first choice of new games due to low availability, you can keep the games longer than a week if you really get into them and still not lose a ton of resale value. I do this and sell them on half.com for better cash than you'd probably expect.

I do this with game that are brand new that I want to play right away and don't want to wait until the price comes down. Everything else I gamefly, stuff I just want to try casually and not buy.

Well, right now what I do is buy stuff only when they get really cheap, since I don't have time to haul ass through a game quickly in order to offload it while value is still high. I'll buy when the price gets under $15 or so (Oblivion at $9.90 at TRU last week for example), which typically nets me around the same price when I resell since it's pretty seldom for a game to lose that much value. I was really hoping to move up on the ladder since I'd love to get my hooks on Assassin's Creed or Mass Effect, but really can't afford the time or money to play them any time soon. A rent situation would be perfect, but you're dead right on deals not being anywhere near me.

Was just hoping that someone might have stumbled onto something close. I appreciate your response, dude. Thanks.

My suggestion is to pick up the 2-month (I think it is) trial for GameFly for cheap. I think you get 2 months of 2 games out at a time, you can get them on eBay and I saw some at Best Buy. The $25/month is worth it if you play a lot of games, but if you just play casually I'd just stay with budget/older games or keep up with the deals here on CAG.

http://www.xboxlivediamond.com/xbox/images/MKP_Splash/hollywood_video_20090228.pdf is an Xbox Live Diamond coupon for Rent 1/Get 1 Free coupon from Hollywood Video since have one around you, makes the cost about $4/game.
