I sure do I hope I get my Lost Odyssey today from YF360g.com. This is the longest it has ever taken for them to ship me a game. I wonder if Inu got his game? Oh well. If I get that today, I will be playing that! If not, more Disgaea and Patapon.

I cannot believe what I just did now. I'll finally admit that the reason I knew some CAG members real name because I had them added on my AIM buddy list, and when I had Facebook search my buddy list, it would tell me who is on Facebook and whether I want to add them or not. I've done that over and over again with my AIM names, but never tried my email accounts. So I go through my emails I have, and one which I had contacts to a few SCEA employees (I know them because I worked as a game reviewer at one point and heavily did SCEA games). I saw them listed and checked out their friends. As I did, I saw several other SCEA PR employees (many who post at the PS Blog), reviewers and other people in the gaming media who I heard of (from 1UP, Gamespot, IGN, guys from Insomniac, etc.), all as their friends. And when checking all their friends, I found tons more people we hear around from video gaming.

I guess Facebook is excellent for stalking, like a few said.

Anyway, can't wait to play more Lost Odyssey today, but I'll do it after I head to campus (if the weather is nice) to print off the 25% coupon, then I'll trade in a few PSP/DS games.

I think I'm gonna get back to some Final Fantasy VIII today. I haven't played it in almost a week, because of Apollo Justice and that damn Etrian Odyssey.

I want to get thru 8 and move on to 9, since I've only completly played thru it once. And I haven't played ANY of the PS2 Final Fantasy games, which should be remidied after I get that triple in June. I think I'll skip FF 11. They really shouldn't have made one of the core FF games a MMO, but that's my opinion. I guess I'll just treat X-2 as FF 11 before moving on to 12. Hopefully I'll be able to get thru them by the end of the year (I'm not a fast player...I have some attention deficit disorder, and I don't usually play a game more than 1-2 hours before getting bored.)

Think I'm going to spend the majority of my day playing around with the Crysis editor, and actually make a serious map. All I did with it last night was spawn dozens of Koreans or tanks 500 metres above a building, and watch them fall and blow the crap out of everything.

I'd probably like to hit level 17 by the end of today in Tabula Rasa aswell.

An interesting perspective on PC gaming from a PC game developer:

http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=42663

Thanks for the link - that was pretty interesting.

And yeah, the PC gaming industry has got a lot of problems. Both on the user and developer side. It's good they're trying to sort that shit out now (or at least pretending to put some effort into it), because, well... it is a complete mess.

I still buy the PC versions of games whenever there is one (and it's better, which is usually the case), despite the inconvenience. Once it's working, it's great, and it's a more solid experience. But damn is the industry a mess.

PC devs have been venting a lot about piracy lately (or maybe they always have been, but I just started paying attention to the industry...) This guy, the CoD4 devs, Crysis devs...

Overall, the lesson for PC devs, unfortunately, is to shoot low specs-wise, shoot low game-wise (minigame$), and digitally distribute.

That's what steam basically is. Valve is really on top of it. Sucks for the materialists, but w/e, I don't mind that since my PC is always hooked up. Pain in the ass on a laptop though.

But damn is the industry a mess.Yeah. It's pretty sad how piracy has so rocked that industry that it's hard to develop anything solely for PC (unless you're Blizzard--even Valve as succumb to putting things out on the consoles). Console games are so much safer. Sure you've got the morons with their modchips who pirate things and rarely if ever buy anything, but those are the vast minority vs. majority in the PC world.

If a game is developed with the PC as the lead platform, I can see it being the best on the PC. FPS and RTS will always be better on PC as well (though I'd like to see someone try and do something slick with RTS and the Wii pointer). But I really can't fathom playing a platformer or action game with a KB/M. Seems like those genres are just made for a controller.

Is it normally graphical fidelity that has you calling the PC versions of console-release games "best," or is it control, or a mix of things? Just curious.

SL4IN
03-01-2008, 11:29 AM
For me, it's the controls mostly for a PC game over a console game. When I'm playing an FPS, I HAVE to have a keyboard/mouse, playing with a controller just doesn't feel right. I'm not a big RTS person, but the ones I've played work so much better with a KB/M due to having hot keys and everything right there in front of you vs having all different button combinations on a controller.

Other than that, the community of a PC game is really the draw with always having someone to play with, having dedicated servers running 24/7, constant updates/patches to fix whatever bugs come along and the modding is all really great.

Actually, I wasn't using an emulator. That screenshot was taken while I was playing the PC version (which always looked way better than the PS1 one).

Ah that's why the text and menus look so smooth. Yeah, I used to own the PC version. It does look nice, because it's using the same assets just output at higher resolutions, which is what I'd like a PSOne emulator to do. I'm glad the PSP emulator works so well, that's what I recently played through FF7 on, and I'm nearly done with FF8 on.

Anyone know how FF9 works on PSP? FF8 took some trickery with GameIDs to work right.

And I may be in the extreme minority who enjoys playing everything except RTS with a controller over mouse and keyboard. I did enjoy System Shock 2 more than Bioshock, though. I just enjoy the simplicity of a controller.

control is a non-issue. if it's an action game, you can hook any controller you want into a PC via converter.

PC games are cheaper, too. I'm pretty sure that's because there's no licensing fees involved for the publisher going towards the hardware maker.

Of course, that results in less quality control, letting things like RE4 on PC fly by without mouse support until the community patches it.

I had a really hard time debating which third PSP game to trade in (I was going to trade in the max number of handheld games I could, 4). I decided to let Sonic Rivals go (I already beat it), Lumines (Although most prefer the first, I prefer the 2nd and usually play it), Mega Man Battle Network: Double Team (although I enjoy the series, I never beat a single one, so I'm just going to stick to beating the first two and allow all others to go), and I decided on Namco Museum: Battle Collection. I wish the games supported widescreen, but they don't. I mostly liked it because of the arranged Pac-Man, so I played it and just beat it, so now I can trade it in. I'm not going to make the trades until later in the week. I really want to ditch a ton of games, but I'm finding it hard to do so.

I thought about Me & MY Katamari (controls are weird, but I love Katamari on the go), After Burner: Black Falcon (I might never see another After Burner and it is a lot of fun, just haven't played it a whole lot), or Ultimate Ghost'n Goblins (It's a classic IMO, just haven't played a whole lot as of late), but I'll keep them. It's really not easy downsizing my PSP collection a little since I bought pretty good stuff for mine.

I just played some DMC4 today. A progressed a little further.

Although Nintendo seems to let PC-style QC pass on the Wii. Does anyone have any info on how much a company has to pay on average to have their game be on one of the 3 consoles? I'm just curious how big of a piece of that total game-cost-pie licensing is.

I should probably try to get through Ninja Gaiden Sigma before Brawl hits in a week. I just beat the Aqueduct. If I recall that's, what, about 60 or 70% through the game? (Though I'm finding my memory of the order of that game is severely hurt by my years away from it. ;) )

It's the graphics... both in terms of how good it looks and how smoothly it runs. I do roll with a gamepad on some games that just work better, so I like the ability to use whatever controller is best on the PC.

jer7583

I don't think it's that huge, more like $7-10 of the $60 cost goes towards licensing fees. Which explains why PC versions are usually around $10 less.

So I completed two offers on YourFree360Games.com and I'm trying to decide if I want to cash that in now for LO or wait a bit for RSix Vegas 2 or something else in the future. I started up LO last night myself. I didn't want to get too invested too early, so I stopped after the short intro.

I did revisit Heavenly Sword, of which I only played the first level originally. I must be one of the few people who totally hates Kai's levels. The sixaxxis motion controls are terrible in this game. I swear, the aftertouch is so wonky for me. Solid GoW-ish game otherwise, though.

I do like how the game is quite linear (although I love DMC4, one thing that turns me off a little is that it's easy to get lost if you are not careful).

As for PSP games, I plan to get Patapon and Wipeout Pulse, then eventually God of War. I'm just trying to sell/trade games first.

I don't really like God of War much. I finished the first, and never really played the second one. Like 1up yours from yesterday said, it's kind of the Mortal Kombat of action games. Simpler and a little cheesier than DMC and Ninja Gaiden. Nothing wrong with that, I just don't enjoy the games. I also don't want to spend $40 on a 4 hour game, since I'll never play through it more than once.

I thought they were THE best stylus controls for a traditional game I've ever played.

And I don't really mind too much about keeping things in top shape. I realize they're going to get dings and dents eventually- just signs of getting good use out of something. I regularly will throw my PSP in my pocket just bare, because I know the screen is safe with that Invisible Shield on it. I've had it almost a year and never have scratched the thing up.

I've got one tiny bubbly spot on mine, but I figure it's a small price to pay for how well they work. Mine has always looked great, much better than those crappy screen protectors you buy at the store. They are tough to apply, but just keep the area clean and use plenty of that spray lubricant they provide so you can move the shield around while applying and get bubbles out. The bubbles work their way out over the course of a few days as well.

I thought the linear aspect of Heavenly Sword was a downside personally. Well, that and the length.I dunno, I've become too accustomed to linear games that if I'm not told what to do, I tend to turn it off and rarely get to it, but that could be due to having very little time to play games and/or forgetting where to do when I go back to old games.

For me, I was a big fan of the motion controls mostly in PSN games (like Toy Home, although I know many hated it, High Velocity Bowling, Blast Factor, flOw, etc.), and in some retail games (like shooting free throws with the controller in NBA 2k8. Very hard at first, but good once you figure it out).

Hehe, I saw your old PSP listed in the Facebook marketplace Lol, sorry if I sound like a stalker.. ;) :-P

My favorite SixAxis control is for charging ninpo in Sigma. Totally unnecessary, but fun. I still occasionally shake the 360 controller out of habit, like an idiot

Dragon Sword will be awesome. The stylus controls are amazing and really, who saw 3D Ninja Gaiden being faithfully reproduced on the DS of all consoles?

Played the GoW PSP demo. Like all GoW demos, it's freaking awesome. All of the demos for that game have blown me away (especially the first one.) Then the full games seem too long with too many artificial devices thrown in to make it challenging. I heard that even the final scenes in GoW PSP are just a bunch of big rooms with constantly spawning enemies :\ This time, I'm waiting for a deal before buying it :) it'll still sell 10 trillion copies and I guess it's nice to make people think they're playing a real action game

Anyway, I just got back from Best Buy. Things worked better than I expected. Since it was busy, they sent some lackey to grab a 360, which pissed me off coz I wanted to make sure it was a Falcon with the 175w shit. Well, they came back, I checked the box, and it was, so that was good. Also, RPGFan wants to interview me this week. Hrm...I use to be pretty close to RPGFan over 3 years ago. I use to post there a lot, wrote a reader review, and was looking into being one of their staff at one point (after the previous RPG site I worked for went under). But many members have changed at RPGFan since I use to post a lot.

Played Burnout Paradise for a long time with a few CAG members. Finally learned how to power brake in the game.

How are the pre-battle load times in FFVII PC?
There aren't any that I can remember. Pretty much the only loading issues I've ever come across in FFVII PC are little pauses between in-game graphics and FMVs.

Also, this isn't as technical, but the most glaring translation errors in FFVII PS1 were fixed in FFVII PC. PC version FTW.

Anyway, not much gaming today (so far). Just finished the first part of the third case in Apollo Justice.

And yeah, I really should turn off the sixxaxis controls in HS, but I was lazy last night and it wouldn't have made me like those levels a lot more. I'll definitely do it the next time I play which may or may not be tonight. I may do NGS tonight after we get home from my daughter's bday dinner and the kiddies go to bed. I'm saving R&C for when my DS3 arrives from PA. They shipped it earlier in the week, and I guess it will take a couple weeks to get here.

I'm debating whether to use my Strikebang coupon for another one, but we'll see.

Right. So mainly graphical upgrades then?

whoops, missed that.

"graphical upgrades" makes it sound so superficial. but I guess it is that for the most part. better graphics + better framerates + whatever other extras come along with the PC version.

So Mass Effect irked the hell out of me on the 360 since it ran ridiculously bad for a UE3 game on the 360. Going through all the menus with a controller was not fun, since I'm used to KB/M for WRPGs now. The dialog was also annoying, but that's a whole other issue. Long story short, I'll give it a second try on the PC with everything tuned up to my tastes.

The dialog/story may bother the hell out of me again, but that's a matter of circumstance...sometimes dialog/cut scenes make me turn off a game in short order, sometimes I dig it even if it's bad.

I picked up Lost Odyssey last night and I'm about to dig into that. I would've played it last night, but I had to spend 2 and a half hours out in the cold trying to fix my POS car. My friend and I went to pick up a pizza and it died in the parking lot. So we ate the pizza there and walked back, got his truck, and tried to jump it. No go, so I went and bought a new battery. It still wouldn't start. I've had to bang on the starter in the past, so I gave it a shot and it worked. I think a wire's loose or some shit.

Also played some R6 Vegas PC. That game is sloppy, and I have to run it at 1280x720 with medium shadows just to get it running smooth. For the record, Gears of War runs maxed at 1680x1050 at 60 fps and looks 2x better.

Played some Melee and Rock Band with some friends tonight. Can it be next week now so that Brawl would be out? Please?

Also played a bit of NG: Sigma (at the forced underwater part which makes me want to just stop playing it each time I get there. Seriously, for a game with such refined gameplay as NG, that whole section is just wretched) and too much of both n+ and Kirby 64. Needless to say. Paper work was not up to par with what I had planned for today. :P

He's not exactly the most enigmatic of personalities.Because I used Patapon last week as my sig/avatar (since I couldn't think of one I liked for DW6) and the game I was most interested in buying this week was Lost Planet (which I will). Next week will probably be God of War, then Wild Arms XF.

That's pretty much how you fight them. Use your gun until they get stunned, then move in and beat the mess out of them. Then they turn red and get really pissed. Go back to the gun until they die.

If you beat them up enough when you stun them, you can avoid the pissed part.

They used that vocal track in FF8 in the strangest place. There's dialog scrolling while it's going on that doesn't even fit the tone, squall is still being a dick to rinoa, and the esthar station is giving them landing directions.. it pretty much fails at being romantic, except for the short bit when rinoa hops on squall's lap. I wish it would have just been a turning point for squall's character instead of the usual awkwardness he has.

I just went to GS and traded in 4 games, which I posted in the Deals Forum here. I didn't do too bad after the 25% coupon, getting $35.10. Kind of funny because I paid $10 for my copy of Namco Museum: Battle Collection on PSP back in Summer 2006. I occasionally played it (not much), but I did beat the Pac-Man arranged. I got back $9.45 for it after bonuses, so it's like I played it for only $0.55. Everything else I didn't pay much for anyway, so no big loss.

Stunt Runs drove me nuts. It feels cheap, but this is what I did to get some easy wins: Once you get the Inferno Van or Inferno BRT Van, do every Road Rage and Marked Man you can find. The van is like a tank, it's very easy to take others down with, and it doesn't go down easy. I also won a lot of races with the Annihilator or Annihilator Phoenix, because it's fast-ish and takes down the other cars easily.

Just like when I played it a decade ago, I started up FFT, got excited that I could go fight a random battle and get some skills, and was quickly gangraped by a roving band of chocobos. As a result I am declaring jihad on all chocobos.

For Blitzes, as Nero make sure Blue Rose is fully upgraded and then 2 fully charged shots from it will take down the Blitz's shield. Then Devil Trigger and run up to it and use buster on it (B button). Do it another 2 times right after that (you gotta do it quick) and the Blitz will explode without going berserk. yeah, journalism is my minor and communications is my major.

Our proposal is over what non profit organization in the area we would help out, by picking some problems they have and then pretty much solving their problems and present it to the class in like a 40 minute presentation. And the kicker is that this is just for a grade, so we're pretty much doing it for our health. The non-profit organization will probably never follow through let alone see this presentation we're doing. It's like a hypothetical "if we were going to help them, this is how we would do it" type of thing.

And my prof isn't even from this country so she doesn't speak that great of english, making it harder to understand what she talks about in class. :bomb:

my suspicions about patapon came true. this game does as many revolutionary things by attaching a binary rhythm element to very simple RTS commands as most wii-em-ups do by tying waggle to traditional controls.

But there's no such thing as double standards with people who play games..

Or maybe using a rhythm style gameplay mechanic is more fun than waving your arms around.

Though I don't know how you can compare the two when Patapon is an original game built around its mechanic, and these "wii-em-ups" you speak of are games where the controls are shoehorned in.

So Patapon was nothing more than a nefarious plot by the developer? a conspiracy to expose a couple of forum gamers and how their personal opinions conflict within themselves?

or is it C: Patapon is fun and ports with waggle tacked on are the gaming world's equivalent of pleather.

I think if you wanna get anywhere towards achieving your goal, you should at least put down beautiful Katamari. It's like a 4 hour single player, whereas all the other games on your list have like 10-100,000,000,000 hour single players that you have to get through :bouncy:Good luck with that.
Hehe, yeah. Good to see you on CAG, your a rare sight here :D

oh hai GGT!

Since the Dual Shock 3 is going to cost like a billion dollars when it comes out here anyway, I'm thinking of just importing one. What's the best place for the best price I can get one? (Is that English?)

Naw, it's not that bad. As mentioned, PA sells 'em right now for $59.90 + $6-9 shipping (depending if you want a box or bubble envelope).

You should've checked the forums earlier as we could've told you about the $10 off $50 coupon they were offerring through Strikebang.com--that's how I picked up my ceramic white one. $57 shipped is pretty not bad.

Unfortunately, the promo is over now, although you can still look for the $5 off $50 ones--it'll at least remove the sting of shipping costs. 8-)

That is probably the greatest line ever for dmc lol. I remember when I got to that point and he said that and I was laughing for a good 10 mins.

my suspicions about patapon came true. this game does as many revolutionary things by attaching a binary rhythm element to very simple RTS commands as most wii-em-ups do by tying waggle to traditional controls.

But there's no such thing as double standards with people who play games..

I actually just think people are too quick to shut off their brains and don't realize these things are there, because the press hasn't told them to hate patapon like they have waggleized games.

Nobody ever says "you have to like X game" or "you have to hate X game" because the press/reviews/whatever told them so. People like what they like and people don't like what they don't like. You don't like patapon, so that's it. Don't try to make everyone that does like it, feel like they're lower than you or that they're dumber.

Nice, is it cool if I add you to my friends list? I need more DMC4 players for that triple. I actually have already beat all the difficulties besides Hell or Hell. I'll probably run through DMD mode again to get ready for it, since it's all about evading for that difficulty. Sos to me felt like the perfect difficulty level for DMC4. Wasn't too hard but yet it wasn't piece of cake either like DH, or downright uber easy like Human mode. Once you get your DS3 def let me know how the rumble is in DMC4/if it supports it.

Damn, I just realized that StarCraft 2 will probably be releasing this year. I wish Bizzard would post some recommended PC specs, cause I might have to upgrade my rig. I was hoping that I could get by on this set-up for at least another year, cause I am not much of a PC gamer. And what PC games I do play usually have lower settings available.

Hopefully they will anounce something at this years BlizzCon, whenever that is.

Cause, I WILL upgrade if StarCraft 2 tells me to, without hesitation. I would also kill my momma if it ordered me. I will do whatever StarCraft 2 commands. All hail the Supreme God of RTS.

Good morning GGT,

I feel sick right now due to the massive weather changes (It was 30 something on Saturday and got up to 64 on Sunday), but I'm still going to class later today. I mostly just have a cold for now.

My gaming this week will be the most limited ever (I may not even bother to play a game for a few days to finish the project, but we'll see). I may sneak in some quick handheld time. Yesterday, I only played Tekken 5: DR on PS3.

StarCraft 2 this year? I hope so, and yet, I hope not. Not sure if I want my life to be sucked away again...

Not worried about my rig, though; my biggest concern is whether a Mac version will be released at the same time as the PC one.

Gonna play the fourth case in Apollo Justice later today (finished the third one last night); looking forward to it.

Hope you get to feeling better, TMK. Those sudden weather shifts always screw me up too.

I think Starcraft 2 is expected this year, but knowing Blizzard, it will probably be in development for 2 more years just to make it as "perfect" as it can be. Cause if it ain't, Korea will declare war upon us.

With Goozex doing free trades in March, I'm going to start out with Phoenix Wright 1 I think. It'll give me something to intersperse with my Picross DS gaming.

Console-wise, all I did this weekend was finish one more mission of Ace Combat and get horribly discouraged through playing COD4 multiplayer. My twitch reflexes can't match those of a 14 year old it seems.

Also, Contra was the best NES game.

I like how the 360 upscales the older XBOX games...it makes everything look sweet! Spawn looks ok with Progressive Scan but not stellar. As for the game...I'm a sucker for comic book games but I wish they could do a better job with these titles as the source material is much better than the games...its ok but for the most part its pretty meh. Started up on Case 3 of Apollo Justice and I like the direction the story is going. I've already got my first suspect, now just to see if I'm right....

Something made me think of Scooby Doo, and how cool a DS point-n-click mystery game would be staring the cast of the cartoon. Bunch of nosy kids poking around a haunted mansion looking for clues to solve some crime. Even if it was geared more towards a younger audience, it could help the genre by hooking them on these sort of games while they are kids.

Rolento if you don't like racers you probably won't like wipeout. It's a very touchy, "keep a perfect line" type of racer. The speed penalty for hitting walls is pretty severe. That said, as a racer it's excellent. The weapons are just kind of a nice changeup of the gameplay. Weapons are really fun to use though. Just don't expect them to be as important as in say, mario kart.

My Done with CAG phase lasted throught the weekend.
I went deep into the mountains and meditated(while playing my dreamcast), and I thought to myself(while playing Marvel Vs. Capcom 2). I don't need to stay away from CAG, I just know the my opinion is right, and everyone else's is wrong.

I'm happy that way.

Right now I'm jailbreaking my ipod touch so I can use it in Ubuntu, and to make use of all the awesome 3rd party apps. Just finished moving up to jailbreaking 1.1.2, 1.1.3 apparently is pretty easy. If anybody else is looking to do this, heres the perfect guide:
http://http://rupertgee.wordpress.com/2008/02/08/jailbreak-113-official-gui-2/

I also finished Episode II of Lego Star Wars TCS. Awesome game. I've already played the first 3 episodes when I had the original Lego Star Wars, so I can't wait for IV-VI.

I litterally had to go to the dr's because I burnt a hole in my hand from the dreamcast dpad playing alpha 3 for 14 hours straight.

I am also going to the midnight launch of brawl.
I might bring my video camera and make a movie from it.

Playing NiGHTS 2:

-Game is ugly as hell.

-Too much story.

-Hearing NiGHTS talk killed my childhood.

Note to Sonic Team: Go back to the awesome story telling that added to the OG Sonic Series and the OG NiGHTS. Stop trying to shove all this shoddy storytelling down our throats.

Sounds like a plan, but there better be shenanigans.

I'm attending the midnight launch, heard two rival gangs are going to show up. There's a good chance that someone's getting shot, and an even better chance fights are gonna break out.

Okay, I'm done with NiGHTS 2 for tonight, the Tutorial level bored the piss right out of me. Would it have been that hard for them to let us skip the tutorial?

Oh well, at least the core gameplay seems intact, so I might have fun with it yet.

Anywho, onward to Rock Band / SD! 06.

NiGHTS 2 is an abomination. It's pure, focused, concentrated crap wrapped around a mildly entertaining game. Do not waste your time with it. 2/3 of the game is cutscenes that would not be out of place being shown on Nick Jr at 7 in the morning.

Is the PS3 Crysis official yet? I hope that if there is extra content, it makes its way to the PC at some point, because I do like the graphical fidelity of the PC version and the controls and all that, and I don't really wanna make sacrifices to get the extra content.

EXCITE truck is just so damn good that it kicks every other game's ass. It has the EXCITE and WIN for sure.

Nah it's not that good. I did really enjoy it, though.

Wipeout Pulse is excellent. Like really excellent. Like AAA, so I play it.

Looks absolutely phenomenal. Proof incoming. Took these myself with the game's photo mode.

Excite Truck just seemed bad when playing it right after playing F-Zero, then again a lot of racers would :-P

Speaking of which why haven't they made another F-Zero yet?

And I still need Wipeout. Probably not many people online though, huh?

Bleh. Sega left the Dreamcast too early, IMHO. It was a decent system for the most part, but I could never get over that controller.

I think I'm gonna play some more Final Fantasy VIII today. I'm almost to Disc 2. Its raining here now, and I hope it keeps up thru most of the day.

Thats what you need a joystick for.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 demands it.
Aplha 3 also does.

Sega fucked themselves over by releasing the sega cd, 32x, saturn, and dreamcast so close.

They didnt support any hardware.
They couldn't save that sinking ship.

I've never really understood the continuing love for the Dreamcast. Save for a handful of games, there's very little unique that hasn't been ported to a different system in a superior version.

I loved the DC too, and it was tragic due to its loss of potential. But as it was left, there's just not much worth preserving on it I don't think.

Went through the first day in Apollo Justice's fourth case yesterday. Interesting stuff; that's all I'll say for now.

As such, I'm getting closer to a Apollo Justice = Phoenix Wright opinion myself (though I'm still of the opinion that PW:JFA > rest of series).

I also love the DC, and really need to start playing Record of Lodoss War again sometime.

Played the next story mission in FFT last night. I thought killing their mages first would be smart, but then the thieves charmed all the women in my party, who then revived the mages, who then healed the leader, leading to quite a lot of cursing. At the end everyone was dead except my charmed monk, who was just dancing around in circles until I reset. I immediately tried it again, and wrecked them in like 10 minutes. I guess thats what like 6 hrs of leveling will do for ya.

1) Flare the shit out of that bitch. Damage up means you're doing more damage per turn. At level 14, it's easy to win.

2) Panasonic Plasma

3) Have just started case 2, and I haven't found Trucy's panties... but if they're not down there, that makes things easier.

I loved the DC too, and it was tragic due to its loss of potential. But as it was left, there's just not much worth preserving on it I don't think.Actually, I still love the Dreamcast quite a bit. Although I've been ditching some of the games I had for it, there's no denying there's a few games I still really love for it (which cannot be found elsewhere) and won't let it go.

Canon Spike was a really fun co-op game and I'd play that game multiple times with my friend. I still do sometimes.

Confidential Mission was a light gun game I really enjoyed (only $20 too on release) and trying to get all judgment shots is a challenge.

Gigawing 1 and 2. I still play both games constantly because I love how bizarre the games games. The crazy high scoring is cool too.

Gunbird 2. I still love the quirkyness of the game and find it enjoyable.

Jet Grind Radio. I hated the demo at first, but once I gave it another shot, I fell in love and bought it. Now it's one of my favorite games of all time. JSRF on Xbox was one of the reasons I got an Xbox early on and just didn't like it anywhere near as much. I love trying to spy paint and dodge the cops, and so on coming after me.

Samba De Amigo. The Songlist may be limited, but I always have fun every time I play it and love the music.

Soul Calibur. IMO, the best in the series in some ways, but it impressed me in the past and still somewhat does now.

Tech Romancer. This IS the reason I will never ditch my Dreamcast. This game is like a dream come true for me, fighting as giant mechs (one love of mine). The game is filled with anime (another love of mine). It has completely Japanese voices (another love of mine), and the Story mode has a pretty good story. The soundtrack rocks too. It was one of the last Dreamcast games I bought too, and glad it only took a trading of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 to get this.

Tee Off Golf. Well, the one thing that makes this game stand out is having a game of Croquet. I still play that game with friends at times.

Virtual-On: Oratorio Tangram. I'll admit I'm finally going to sell this game (I'll probably regret it one day), but the graphics were superb, gameplay was fast and fun. I got all right with the controls lacking twin sticks, but cannot remember how I played (since when I play it now, can't figure it out), This game NEEDs to be on XBL/PSN with online play (Dual Analog sticks should help).

Although a few games might have been ported elsewhere, like Grandia II, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, I invested 20-40 hours in each of them, and no way I want to start all over.

I had 62 Dreamcast games before, although I sold most. I'll admit 15 or so weren't that great, but I enjoyed the rest. Some were ported and some I felt I just wouldn't play again (like Project Justice, but I got double what I paid when I sold it).

I understand why Sega had to pull out because they were in huge debt (around 2 billion I think) and could not deal with taking a loss on hardware (like Sony, MS, and Nintendo can do). It also hurt Sega they were only a video gaming company, so if they weren't doing well in gaming, they were really hurt (unlike other companies which make up in other areas, or Nintendo who still has a lot of money from the huge success of NES and all the Gameboys). I bought my Dreamcast on 9/9/99 at midnight and still glad I did. Still works great now. I was extremely disappointed in PS2 early on, so I sold it and stuck to the Dreamcast. Eventually I switched to Xbox/PS2/GC getting my support (although not as much as Dreamcast) until late 2003 (where I started to really support PS2 a lot).

Next Generation has an interesting article about top reviewed publishers over the years.

http://next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9393&Itemid=2&limit=1&limitstart=0

But here's a breakdown.

2007 was a good year for Sony, they didn't release many titles, but games like Uncharted and Ratchet buoyed them to the top. I think Nintendo's plethora of shit released on the wii dragged them down despite having the best reviewed title of the year with Mario Galaxy.

http://www.next-gen.biz/images/stories/mattsgraphs/by-the-numbers-005_html_m391f4a65.gif

2006- Note the odd absence of Microsoft.

http://www.next-gen.biz/images/stories/mattsgraphs/by-the-numbers-005_html_m3160f27b.gif

2005 is interesting because it's the last year Microsoft really was doing anything noteworthy. The Year of Halo 2, Forza, and Jade Empire. They've kind of let their first party rot since then, unfortunately.

http://www.next-gen.biz/images/stories/mattsgraphs/by-the-numbers-005_html_m289f3695.gif

What's interesting about the graphs in total is just how much reviewers don't use the whole scale. The majority of publishers hit the 60-80% range. It really is a 6-10 scale in most magazines, unfortunately.

Also how the hell does EA stay so high on the list?

Wallmounting is also a pain in the ass, which is why I didn't do it. You'll like the TV though. I have the 1080p version of that same basic model and I love it. It has the anti-glare coating, which has its good points (less glare, no shit) and bad points (the colors are sometimes a tiny bit muted).

Of course, I got mine through a convoluted series of steps for $800 from Best Buy and didn't have much choice in which one I was getting. You'll dig it.

Also, Ace Combat 6: Mission 9, otherwise known as the "you've been coasting along so far, let's throw a ridiculous and difficult mission at you to discourage you into lowering the difficulty setting" mission. Damn thing.
