Needless to say, Digg is currently on fire trying to track this asshole down and shit down his throat.
It has been confirmed that he is David Motari, here's his profile:
http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=3042738902
Update: Despite the obvious title of "Soldier Throws Puppy off cliff", I'm going to come out now and say that this is NSFW.
In this video, someone in Iraq identified as "Motari" tosses a puppy into the air, probably killing or crippling it. The video is very disturbing (the puppy's paws are even bound with a zip tie), and is located here (http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=zlCiUMoFu84). http://federalism.typepad.com/crime_federalism/images/2008/03/03/motari_animal_cruelty_1.jpg (http://federalism.typepad.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2008/03/03/motari_animal_cruelty_1.jpg)
The David Motari (a United States Marine) depicted in this picture looks identical to the man posted in the video who is identified as "Motari"; though, with goggles on, it's hard to make a perfect ID. Here is his "Bebo" profile (http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=3042738902) containing additional pictures.
It could also be the case that the video is fake. This seems highly unlikely, given the low-tech camera used to shoot the footage. I will keep you updated on the matter. If David Motari is the puppy killer, he is undoubtedly a sociopath who does not feel remorse or shame.
After confirming him as the puppy killer, we must engage in an online campaign to ensure that everyone who does business with or associates with him is warned. The puppy had no choice; humans, through education, will.
UPDATE: A rumor has surfaced that David Motari works for Blackwater Worldwide. A Blackwater officer has confirmed that no one depicted in that video are Blackwater personnel.
UPDATE: David Motari's "Bebo" profile has been switched to private (http://www.bebo.com/c/profile/no_can_do?MemberId=3042738902): people outside of his "friends network" are not authorized to view his profile. He has ignore my repeated requests to confirm or deny that he is the "Motari" depicted in the YouTube video. I will keep you updated as this story develops.
UPDATE: Others have noted, and I agree, that we must await confirmation of the puppy killer's identity before taking further action. The matter is still under investigation, and we need to confirm identities. Once we have confirmation, we should do everything legally within our power to make the killer's life a living Hell. But we must await confirmation before taking further action.
Shit's pretty much hit the fan now, some mainstream media are picking up on it.

Do you know that strays dogs in iraq eat rotting human corpses?Doing this they spread disease, the kind of disease that festers on a decaying human body. The kind of disease thats not deadly to a dog,but is certainly deadly to,say,a child who later comes into contact with that dog. It's for that reason the military is frequently ordered to kill dogs. But you dont realize that human beings would be at risk by leaving that dog alive, because you are a moron. You dont care that human beings would be in danger if that dog were allowed to live, because you are a moron.
Have fun venting your impotent rage online, knowing if you ran across the guy in real life you'd tuck your tiny dick between your legs and run off like the $$$$$$ you are.

Also - avoid disease by throwing a dog off a cliff where it's body will sit and fester = :dunce:
The guy is a sadist. And a disgrace to the uniform.
Gotta say though - I was more horrified when I saw the video of Iraqi bodies left in the street - the ones who were killed by the brutes that took over power once Sadaam's regime fell. Tribal warfare is a vicious thing.

Ideally you'd want to burn or otherwise dispose of a body to prevent disease, throwing it off a cliff isn't the answer. That guy is just some dumbass who thought he'd have a laugh and throw a defenseless animal to it's death.
It's people like him that make me think, "Well, i support some of the troops." I don't care if that asshole ever makes it back, the dogs in his area would probably safer for it at least.

Just watched the video. Um, yeah, he is a dickhead.
I didn't see any reason to injure the dog. It looked fine.
Does he deserve a court martial or something violent happening to him? Not really. It was just a dog, not a person.
However, tossing a puppy over a cliff was very childish and, given a puppy's terminal velocity, there's a good chance the dog didn't die quickly after impact.
If the "man" had grown tired of his dog, he should have tried finding the dog a new owner or using a bullet, rifle butt, K-Bar or boot to give the dog a quick death.

Throw that motherfucker off a cliff. I'm a rational enough person that I understand a "pragmatic" need to kill animals, but anything beyond quick and painless (or as much as possible) is detestable. Significantly so.

Yeah I feel if the disease and bodies bit is such an issue why can't they just put the dog to sleep?
Considering how I heard some speculation how one person believed it was Blackwater causing extreme harm or distress to Iraqi individuals I wouldn't be surprised. What I got the impression was Blackwater was riling up the people when the troops were trying to calm them down. I would say this could easily be true since they can't be tried according to the military code.

It's been shown that people who are violent towards animals don't always stop at animals. Thats what I'm saying, this may have just been a dog, but it's practically a red warning light over the guy. He probably wouldn't have any problem with throwing an unarmed Iraqi over a cliff either.

I guess I was dissappointed when I saw this because I saw a puppy was involved and I knew that this would become a huge Iraq war news item. It's more sensationalistic then substantive yet I have a feeling it's going to get more media coverage then the high incidence of military member suicide or the deplorable state of VA hospitals.
I say courtmashal or fire the guy (depending on his role) and let's get back to ousting the Republicans and ending this war.

Wow, I guess a video of a Fake/dead dog thrown over a cliff is a BIG deal to many people. No wonder why our country is going to hell......We care more about a Dog than our president destroying our country and the dollar becoming the Peso.
YES THE DOG WAS NOT ALIVE. The sound in the Video doesn't correlate with the dogs distance and the Dog doesn't move at all....and there is no noise from the dog until way into the throw. The dog would also squirm after it was thrown, which it didn't.

Perhaps in your plebian world, hombre. But a look at public opinion polls, topics created in the vs forum, and pretty much damn near every public discussion I have shows that people are concerned about those things far more than this.
This is the sort of thing that channels a very emotional, gut-level reaction - which isn't something that happens when you realize that we're looking at an economic outlook right now worse than Carter - and that this is the tip of the economic iceberg (we're goin' nowhere but down, folks).

Ya its just a dog and people do worse things but when people do worse things it's unusually because of bad judgment or inability to control there emotions not for entertainment. I wouldn't want someone that enjoys killing and records it living in my neighborhood or to have the duty of protecting me, and I certainly wouldn't count on them to use discretion when dealing with civilians.

Interesting you mention this...
"Eres lo que lees". You are what you read. The sentence, written with dog food, was displayed on the white wall of an art gallery. Close to that wall, an abandoned and diseased street dog was left tied to a rope and a wire string. An incense burner was placed nearby where, allegedly, crack and cannabis was burnt during the inauguration. Without food and water, the animal died in the gallery during the next day.
It happened in Nicaragua. It was an "installation" by artist Guillermo Vargas, known as Habacuc.
The situation, documented with several images, received a lot of attention on the web and originated an online petition against it's author that gathers, as I write these words, close to 50.000 signatures.
...
Here is, then, Habacuc, the great moralizer. On his own words, he states that "the important to me was the hypocrisy of the people: an animal becomes the focus of attention when I put it on a white place where people go see art, not when he's on the street dying of hunger". Questioned on the reason why he didn't use a different form of expressing his message, the inhumanity is complete. "I remember what I see" The dog is more alive now than ever because people are still talking about it".
It doesn"t take an animal lover to understand the intellectual grotesque of the whole thing. The display of a dog's death in the name of a useless gesture. Habacuc against the world, in his prejudiced eyes where we are all hypocrites.
Intending to change the world, and change us all, famous tyrants promoted the greatest genocides in history. To Habacuc, against our hypocrisy, was left the power to kill a miserable dog of the streets of Managua. As for art, well, maybe it died a long time ago

If anyone needs a IED blown up in their face, it is this guy.So this guy deserves to die because of this? Then I guess all the people who hunt deers should too, since they are killing defenseless animals as well.
It's a fucking dog people. Yes, it was a prick thing to do, but the guy doesn't deserve to be beaten and or killed over it.

Honestly, it was unnecessary. However, it was just a dog.
It's nothing compared to killing another person. He could be disciplined, but killed? Come on now.

Dead or not, who cares? I love it when people value the life of something so much, they are willing to destroy anything, including other life, to serve their cause. Hypocrytes.

for all people saying its just a dog, to you its just a dog, to others it could be something else. You should not really judge people for caring about a dog, because you can be just as easily judged for not caring about an innocent helpless animal.
Honestly, it was unnecessary. However, it was just a dog.
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” - Gandhi
Just a dog? Dogs have been domesticated by humans for thousands of years. Dogs will defend their owners to their dieing breaths even if those same owners beat and mistreat them. Perhaps such an idea is lost to people who never had a dog in their family or live in some part of the world where they are eaten.

Funny you quote Gandhi, because he was a fruitarian who would never have eaten any animal (and likely would have been more focused on the corrupt American beef industry).
There was a profit-making, American job-supplying horsemeat business in Texas that was shut down because some wealthy "do-gooder" horse riders used their influence to get Texas to pass a law forbidding the slaughter of horses for food.
I am so freaking sick of the double standard in USA where cute cuddly housepet animals get treated like royalty while traditional farm animals (including pigs who are actually highly intelligent and loving when trained correctly) are treated with horrifying levels of abuse before slaughter.
Stop the hypocrisy.

You are making many assumptions about me. Am I a vegetarian? Perhaps I own a pet pig. Even more likely however is the fact that I am also against the cruel treatment of more animals than merely dogs. Maybe in the future you can get your facts straight before those busy little fingers start typing.

Fair enough. Your other posts, where you say that humans can only aspire to be like dogs, smacked of being over-the-top to me - that's why I used your post as a spingboard.
I suppose I attributed my assumptions to your self-admitted status as a dog lover, I didn't know you were a vegitarian with a pet pig who also championed the cause of ending cruelty to animals in agri-business.

Dogs personify the greatest attributes that human beings can aspire to possess: loyalty, courage, and compassion.
Plus they can lick their own dick. Yeah, I'm jealous.

Under investigation + a phone call from his sister to a radio show:
CNN has finally picked up the story (http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/04/puppy.marine/index.html) that I broke yesterday (http://federalism.typepad.com/crime_federalism/2008/03/david-motari-ab.html). According to CNN:
"This is a shocking and deplorable video that is contrary to the high standards that we set for every Marine," Marine Corps spokesman Maj. Chris Perrine said at a news conference Monday night.
"We will investigate this and take appropriate actions," Perrine said.
He said the Marine is being kept safe in view of the anger over the alleged incident.
Not so tough now, are you Motari?
Those who had lingering doubts about the Marine puppy killer's identification can put those doubts aside. According to David Motari's sister, he was indeed the Marine depicted in the video. Details here (http://www.mynorthwest.com/?nid=11&sid=33307).

The marines need to boot this guy not protect him. Weither the puppy was real or a stuffed animal, this type of sick joke needs to be dealt with. If it was real, then he needs to be tied up and tossed over a bigger cliff. If it was fake, he needs to be stripped of rank, booted out and then sent to a mental hospital.

This was atrocious. Death is a little bit of an extreme sentence. I bet his fellow soldiers/CO's were sooooo pissed off.
Nowadays, and since vietnam really, wars are not won or lost due to weapons and soldiers. They're won and lost in the court of public opinion. WHen the public gets war fatigued (starting to hapen with Iraq), they start pressuring the rule-makers to end it. This video and episode (something new, different, and appalling) probably cost the US more in terms of winning the war in Iraq than a car bomb that kills 50 soldiers (something commonplace and "business as usual").

I really wish the video was fake. Wouldn't it be great if it was a propaganda video that can prove many statements?
And for animals to have equality bs? NO! Why do men get paid better than others? Because of their importance. Animals have importance as well and the less usefull you are, you get eaten.

Lance Cpl. David Motari is being processed for removal for his role, the Marine Corps said, and Sgt. Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion also has been punished.
Great, what a wonderful way to punish this asshole than to to put him a position where less bullets are fired at him.
I'm hoping this is actually implying a dishonorable discharge from the Marines. At least in that case, the DD would follow him for the rest of his life and bar him from a few things and jobs.

I look at this way.
He is no longer under the protection of the military. So now he's fair game.
Everyone now knows who the fuck this guy is.
He can now face animal cruality charges and face some jail time.
Some people can break into his house, gag him, tie him up and toss him over a similar cliff all while video taping it and putting it on youtube.

http://current.com/items/86050831_art_can_kill_it_did_kill_a_dog_it_happene d_live_in_nicaragua
Now - we do hold soldiers to a higher standard then artists. But still...
It was hypocritical in the end, but there is truth to what he was saying. People only cared about the dog dying because they could see it and someone let it happen. Tons of dogs die on the street, due to negligence, or just because of euthanization and those same offended people wouldn't care.

From the 2005 movie Jarhead
Anthony 'Swoff' Swofford: Suggested techniques for the marine to use in the avoidance of boredom and loneliness: Masturbation.
Rereading of letters from unfaithful wives and girlfriends. Cleaning your rifle. Further masturbation.
Rewiring Walkman. Arguing about religion and meaning of life. Discussing in detail, every woman the marine has ever f*cked. Debating differences, such as Cuban vs. Mexican, Harleys vs. Hondas, left- vs. right-handed masturbation.
Further cleaning of rifle. Studying of phillipino mail order bride catalogue. Further masturbation.
Planning of marine's first meal on return home. Imagining what a marine's girlfriend and her man Jody are doing in the hay, or in the alley, or in a hotel bed.
