This was being reported by the National Enquirer... which historically doesn't have the best (er, maybe the worst) reputation. However, I believe they were the ones that broke the Owen Wilson suicide story and a few other recent "headlines."
Would be a weird story to make up out of thin air. Not saying that it isn't possible just that it's certainly not unheard of for people in their 50's to get cancer (and he's a noted heavy smoker.)
He kicked ass in Red Dawn. That's all I know. Oh, and Roadhouse.

Roadhouse is one of the moniest movies ever.

Point Break > All other Swayze movies
You forgot about "To Wong Foo" and "Next of Kin".
And "Youngblood".
He had surgery last month (from World Entertainment News Network):
Swayze's Mystery Surgery
http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/71/35/12s.jpg Actor Patrick Swayze (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000664/) underwent surgery on a mystery complaint in California over the weekend. The Ghost (http://imdb.com/title/tt0099653/) actor checked into the Stanford University Medical Center for a serious "gastro-intestinal procedure," according to the New York Post. Sources tell the newspaper he has since been released, with his spokesperson confirming the 55-year-old is now "home and happy."
This could be true. Pancreatic cancer can kill really fast. Nasty business. But this source ain't that reliable.

If it's true...it would be terrible news. I always thought Patrick Swayze was pretty cool.

From the article: "One of the greatest actors of his time, Swayze, 55, is in the hearts of many, I'm sure. Our thoughts and prayers are with Patrick, his family and his friends."
BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Seriously now. I know nobody puts Swayze in the corner, and he was a lead in such gems as Red Dawn, Point Break, Dirty Dancing, and Ghost, but come now. ROADHOUSE. Enough said.
To quote Swayze from said movie, "PAIN DON'T HURT." Simply brilliant. Truly Shakespeare caliber.

HOW DARE YOU, SIR? HOW DARE YOU?!?
Red Dawn was EPIC, at least from a kid's perspective growing up at the time.
Okay, so it wasn't THAT epic. But it did have whats-his-face from Deadwood, along with most of the Brat Pack (Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez). I think the guy talking about the skinny girl was referring to the klepto from the Breakfast Club? Ally Sheedy? The girls in Red Dawn were Jennifer Grey and Lea Thompson.

Like, OMG!!!
BTW now Yahoo is reporting that his spokeswoman/agent or whoever is confirming the story, but denying most of the story's info. Dude is going to be kicking the bucket posthaste if the original story's report of advanced pancreatic cancer and failed treatment is to be believed.

Yeah the "OMG!!! Yahoo!!" (Microsoft really wants to buy that?) story says he does have cancer but it's not nearly as bad as was reported. Which makes sense.

Just caught it on ABC news, funny enough the story was contradicting itself, they were reporting oh it isn't that bad, but then had another doctor come on and say if his symptoms are already showing it is pretty much too late. Guess we'll just have to wait 5 weeks on this one
Edit: I completely forgot, they were playing clips from Ghost through the entire report!

I'm going to hell for laughing at that one.
On a more serious note, pancreatic cancer is one of the worst types of cancer. Mortality rate is pretty high.
He should have enough money to get the newest and best treatments, but the odds of him having a full recovery are a long shot. Do any of the articles show what Stage he is at? He might as well kiss the sky if it's Stage 3.

Well the rumor/gossip rags like the Enquirer were reporting Stage 4, basically that it's game over time, thus the topic title stating he has roughly "5 weeks to live".
the reports from his PR/spokesperson are much more upbeat, saying he is basically in routine treatment.

Basically the same thing my nurse wife told me when I told her what type of cancer it was. She went into depth about it, but I dont want to pass along any misinformation... but she reiterated about it being one of the worst form of cancer
I remember seeing an interview with him years back and he seemed like a very normal down to Earth regular person.
