A single account can be activated on 5 ps3s (total, so 5 people) and can have as many games as you want. Any account on your ps3 can then play the games from the gameshare account.

1) what constitutes an account? here's my example:

I've bought multiple game shares from one person. each trade used the same username but a different e-mail & password each time. I found that I couldn't login using the old username with the new e-mail/pass. I had to rename the old username, add the username again, and attach it to the new e-mail and pass. Is this right? Or is there a different way of doing things if someone changes the e-mail and password for each trade? A followup question would then be, have i then taken 2 of this persons 5 availalble system shares? are they now only available to give that info to 2 other ps3's?

Yep, and so if it was a single account that just had the email/pass changed then you only took one share slot on the account.

but the download lists were different...which begs the question:

does it matter what I enter in on my machine as the username? the name you select right when the ps3 boots up?

If the download lists were different that means it was two separate accounts, so he made a separate account for each game. It sounds like you changed your old gameshare account to be the new one, so you should check that the last game you gameshared still works...You'll probably have to go back and readd the last account you got from him.

I have several games already purchased under my account name; if I wanted to trade those to someone, can the trade happen, they download, then I change my password to something else to protect my personal information? Will they still have access to the games even though they can't log in to my account?

I never intended on gamesharing, but my thoughts have changed on the matter and now I am in the midst of joining a longterm group. Rather than rebuy the few games I currently have, I was thinking sharing might be a possibility, but I don't want to keep my primary account exposed.

hey guys, i've got what is probably a super-noob question, and one which i should have asked some time ago:

is there in FACT a hard limit to how many user accounts you can have on one PS3, and if so, what is that limit?

i know there are lots of people who gameshare and buy one game with one account so as to maximize their sharing possibilities, but if there is a low and hard limit to accounts, then that will end up screwing you eventually, right?

i've seen some people suggest that there's a limit, and others claim it as truth, as if they have some sure knowledge, but i've never seen anyone actually support that claim with any proof or word from sony or anything, it just seems like people passing on stories they also heard on the internet. but if i'm wrong about that, then it's a gamechanger for my gamesharing strategy, so i'm not going to assume anything at this point.

maybe i'm retarded, and it's been proven a million times, or maybe it's even hidden in the manual somewhere and i'm just a blindass mofo. which is fine. if someone can answer my question definitively, feel free to verbally abuse me all you wish, i just need an answer :)

alright guys, now that it looks like my three individual gameshare groups are going to be taken care of soon, i'm turning to the long-term gameshare group. i've gotten PMs from a few interested parties, but nothing is set in stone, so anyone else who might be interested, please PM me.

we will be primarily looking to buy future game releases, though recent games or even older games that none of the members have can also be put up for a vote. i am looking for people that will stick around for the long-term (hence the phrase long-term group), so if you're just looking for a couple of games, then we probably aren't the group for you.

also, this is not a group for DLC for disc-based games like rockband and such. i'd prefer to keep that separate. this is for games. (obvious exceptions being things like expansion packs to psn games etc).

anyways, i'm going through a pretty rigorous process of vetting before we actually put the group together and commit a single dollar to it, so this may take a while. the point is to end up with five people whose tastes in games are as similar as possible, so we will have the highest likelihood of agreeing on game purchases. i'm an economist by profession, so i can get anal with this kind of thing, but i think i'm being pretty reasonable here :)

so, anyone who is interested and thinks they can put up with my long-winded posts in a private gamesharing group, please PM me! i promise not to type so much whenever possible.

by the way, did you know there is a 5000-character limit on PMs? crazy...

Sorry, I only meant never freed up in response to the scenario you gave. If you go to account management or whatever and deactivate that ps3 for the given account then you are free to put that share on another ps3/resell it.

Just a word of caution to you guys and gals. I had my ps3 die recently, and Sony sent me a refurbished system. Because all my shared content was maxed out, and tied to a dead console, I asked them to deactivate the content.
They would not do so.
They said that even if the content was just on my own brother's ps3, I was breaking their User Agreement. While others may have had success, I think their exceptions are reaching 0 or nearly that, when it comes to that stuff.

So, you may want to start thinking about forming smaller groups (2-3 people) where a dead system will not create a problem (as you would still have access to a couple of more downloads on different systems/accounts). You would still do better than paying for the same content on Xbox live, and would avoid this headache. These systems may not be as horrible as the x360 in reliability, but it's a piece of Electronic equipment, and will eventually die.

Yea, they can. Each ps3 share has 5 slots, 1 already used for the buyer and 4 remain from there. So your friend buys a game, they still have 4 to use.

1. Yes, the other 4 members would still have access to the content, but you're SOL, as your piece of the content is now tied to a dead console. If you're sharing with one or two people, you would still have slots open for your new console.

2. No, when your ps3 gets replaced, you will not get all your content back when you swap in your old drive. Your backup will only restore game saves, and other video/picture stuff. Anything you downloaded must be re-downloaded, and all your Rockband stuff will be gone for good.

3. My ps3 would not show an image or respond to input, so I had no chance at deactivating the content...it was just dead.
