Hello and welcome to Cheap Ass Gamer League Baseball (CAGLB)!

I'm glad to finally tell you that we're ready to finally start this inaugural season of CAG league play with MLB 08 on the PS3. This post will be keeping tracking of standings, teams, and pitching rotations that will be used in-game. Pitching rotations will be used, so you will have to use your ace for your first game, #2 starter for your second game, etc and so on until you start over again for your sixth and eleventh games. You'll go through your rotations three times through the season. Playoffs won't have this restriction, so you can use your best pitcher at your own discretion. If you'd like to change up your rotation, please post in this thread or PM me and I'll update that, but if you've want to put a reliever in at starter, make sure you've got the latest roster and check to make sure you really want to do that. Lineups are free to be changed at your discretion at any time, so take care of those before and during league games.

Don't forget that rosters will change as they do in real life, so you'll have to worry about injuries each week taking out important players like the professionals do.

Each week you and your opponent will need to schedule a time to play and I believe the home team gets the honor of picking, so you can send PMs or messages to each other to see what time's best, but the league system also has its own set-up for that task, as well. If you do not play your game for the week, I get to decide who wins or not, so I'll probably just toss a coin and make it as fair as possible if it's not down to one person just flaking out on the league.

I wish you all good luck in your games. Please have fun and play fairly, just as you'd like your opponents to do, as well. The best eight teams over the next 15 weeks will move on to the playoffs to determine CAGLB's first champion.

Roster updates have already been released and will be released every week, so it'll depend on whenever they put him on their MLB rosters or not. The Cubs roster is a little messed up right now. They have DeRosa in RF when Fukudome should be out there. He won't be added into the game until after he plays his first game.

I don't think there's any kind of roster editing/trading for online play or leagues, as you just play with the latest pro rosters. That's why it always asks if you want to save the online rosters for offline play.

That would be weird as every 2K league in all their games lets you trade players amonst the teams in the league. I don't think that the rosters in our league would automatically update when they put out an update, that is only for single play online or to save to your console. I will look on the official boards for an answer.

But for the third time, if there is a player currently IRL injured and is on the AAA roster on the team in the game (ie Chris Carpenter,) are we allowed to bump them up to the MLB roster or not?

On the Colby Rasmus argument Hitman he will only be in the game if he gets called up which I doubt. With the huge outfield battle the cards have going right now I'm sure they will let him start out in AAA.

You mean the schedule? It'll be one game a week for 15 weeks and then playoffs after that for three weeks, I believe, after that.

You do realize that your online account has to be 2 weeks old before you can make a league right? So unless you got the game 2 sundays ago you won't be able to start a league. Hence why there aren't 1500 leagues started up already.

I played my first game tonight against a friend and it was laggy as hell. Anyone else having lag problems? It was so slow. I play other games with no problems so I was kind of taken back by this. Maybe I'll try another game with an other person.

It's a bit laggy for me as well. Sometimes it sucks to have it lag, especially if you got a close game going. Anyway, I can't wait for the league to start! I'm sure as hell excited.

Changing the display setting to 720p will not be an option for me for another month as the TV I'm currently playing on is 1080i only. Will all my online games with MLB be like this? I have no lag problems at all with anything on the 360.

The first online game I played was laggy as hell, but the second one was fine. I changed some settings on my router like the DMZ and some other stuff in between my first and second game. I'm not for sure if that improved the online gaming or if I just played with someone who had a great connection.

Turning fast play on has been a godsend in my games as far as lag is concerned. Fast play basically just turns off all the cutscenes. I played someone I know from another forum twice. Game 1-pretty laggy. Game 2- He didn't have time for a full one, so we played a 7 inning game with fast play on, zero lag.

Well I always want STL teams (minus the Rams) if they're available. I took the Blues into the semifinals of the CAG NHL 2K7 league on 360, plus if we have access to the AAA rosters I can move Carpenter up and have a front 3 of Carpenter, Wainright, and Mulder in the league. If someone can't live without being the Cardinals, I do have a 2nd choice team I could be.

Yeah in real life we'll be lucky to be 3rd but the Cardinals aren't bad in this game. I beat someone online 4-0 when he was the Red Sox. Isturis is much better on the game than IRL and can get some stolen bases, Ankiel, Duncan, and Ludwick can rake, then you have Pujols and Glaus so the front 6 in the lineup are pretty good.

Weird. I had played over 20 games without a problem and now that's two in a row. I just tried connecting to a friend and couldn't.

I like that you can send PSN friend requests from the in-game buddy list. More games need to do that if they're not using the XMB friends list.

15 game schedule means every starter starts 3 times.

in a playoff scenario, once a series ends, the next series you should be able to restart on top.

The problem with that system is that I could be starting my #5 starter against someone's #1 if that person has played a different number of total games. Will it just give us a schedule and we play games when we can or what? If everyone has to go at the same pace(i.e. date on the schedule) then your suggestion would work. However, if we can play at different paces then this would be problematic.

I don't believe the game lets you play more than one game a week if that's how the league is set-up, which is what we're doing here. I doubt that you're going to be able to play through your entire schedule in less than a week to wait another 14 weeks for everyone else to catch.

I haven't tried getting on using my PS3 yet. I'm not able to get high speed internet at the place I live at, so I have to take my PS3 to my mom's house in order to get online with it. The bad thing is that I go to school everyday of the week and work on the weekends, so I was hoping I would be able to join the league using the website.

I honestly didn't see your post before you started throwing insults my way. I've been busy this week with both this league and the March Madness contest I've been running, so I hadn't read every post in this thread. Yep, schedules are picked randomly when the league's activated.

Raw, try it get it in by the end of the week, but you can change it if your roster changes with the weekly updates.

Supreme and I finished our game tonight. He won like 9-7, or something like that. I had a few exciting innings where I was possibly starting to mount a comeback. It was my first online game, and it was full of lag, so that was pretty hard to get over. Also, Supreme should get bonus points, he hit a home run off of the right foul pole in Camden Yards :lol:

I can't see any of the pitches, and the game keeps hiccupping, and when I get a rally going in the 9th inning it drops the connection. I have a 3 down/512 up connection and have absolutely no lag on anything with the 360 (this is the only game I play online on the PS3.) I do have a Netgear wireless router but like I said no lag at all on any 360 games, Halo, CoD, etc.

Rock, I'm sorry I was trying to hit the corners but some of those pitches just went wild because I couldn't hit anything on the meter because of the lag. Props to you as well for hitting a homer off the foul pole.

Yea, the lag was horrible. Is anyone else experiencing it or is just me and Hitman? I have the same situation as Hitman. Play on my 360 and have no problems online what so ever and played Warhawk and Resistance also with no problems.

I used to have lag issues. I had a friend suggest turning fast play on. It takes out the cutscenes. Most people just hit X through them anyway. It might not actually do much, but I've noticed it improved my lag issues somewhat.

I've had this same problem for the last 3 years with "The Show". I had 06 and 07 on PS2, but it was the ONLY game that gave me hell getting/staying connected to the servers. I don't know what the fuck kind of chinese web server SCEA uses, but it's flat out terrible.

With 06, you had to freakin forward ports on your router and do all kinds of tricks to get it to connect. It seriously boggles my mind that they can't use the same simple formula that every other game uses. It would be easy to make this a Live vs. PSN (subscription vs. free) issue, but it's just this damn game. You'd think they would have figured it out by now.

I have one major problem with the online play... I gave up 16(!) hit, mainly because when I select the pitch, and then press the button again to start the pitch meter, it disappears and i just throw a lob over. It happened on about 75% of my pitches. Luckily the changeup was a good pitch even with this problem.

It didn't really impact the game, I only scored one run, but I hope it's not always like that...

Anyone else have this problem...

Other than that, it was pretty lag-free.

GG Vega!! That was a lot of fun, not too laggy, but still fun. That pinch hit home run in the top of the 12th sure was nice... Then the 3 run dinger in the same inning sealed it in a great pitchers duel we had going on. We both had out SP's in the 12th, lol.

Yea, I have a feeling the lag is something that the developers need to take care of with a patch. Most of us are having these problems so it can't just be internet connections. I play on my 360 online just fine. Paradise City on PS3 runs great online as well. I don't get it.

It was a good game overall tho. I really let myself get blown out of the water there at the end tho. Heh. It would help if I could get one freakin' man across the plate! At least I kept it tight until the end.

We should try the quick play since I recall people saying that worked out better.

I think the quick play has to be enabled in the Comish settings, and only he can do it. I would like to try it though, I hate waiting through the freaking cut scenes for online games, it slows down the game, and makes games harder to get in b/c they take longer, now if it was my RTTS guy or chise' then that's another story.

No kidding, man. Hell of a game. You have probably one of the best pitch eyes that I've seen online, minus the "veteran" douchenozzles. I usually get 10+ strikeouts a game, but you held your own so well. That's got to be one of the most enjoyable experiences yet.

Good luck to your squad. I'm sure there is more good talent in CAG, but I honestly hope not to see you again if by chance we both make it to the playoffs.

Wow, Frisky. That was my laggiest game of MLB yet. For most of the game it was pretty much unplayable. At this point skill is thrown out the window and luck usually takes its turn at the plate. The weight just dropped in my favor this time with that 3 run homer in the 8th. I sure hope they patch this. I don't know if I can stomach 13 more games like that. It feels like a waste. My pause time definitely hadn't run out, I'd only paused once in the 6th or 7th to get a couple of guys going in the bullpen. Yeah, so far I haven't had too much trouble with lag. Though I wish they could do something smart, like cancel the pitch if it all of a sudden lurches in the middle, but perhaps that's more complicated than it sounds. My PS3 network performance in general has been much better since I plugged my PS3 into the router rather than relying on the wireless.

I have a huge announcement for all my league friends...

I found out, during a game against my friend, both of us played IN PERSON...

The reason the pitch meter disappears and you can't determine your own velocity, is because the other player either guessed the pitch, or the pitch location correct... that automatically takes away your meter, and you throw the pitch to the spot you picked

It has nothing to do with online play...

The only real online play lag is if the game stops and then starts while you are in the field or whatever... the meter not working on a pitch is not lag.

This should clear up some people getting upset at the online play fluidity.

My last game I hit a game winning homerun against Frisky and in the replay that the PS3 saved (they showed the hr at the end of the game) you can see the ball jumping around wildly on screen as it's coming towards the batter. My guy swins after the ball is behind him and then magically you see another ball come off the bat and head for the stands. This is horrible. It's been hit and miss for me. But I've never had a great game yet. In fact it just has been getting worse.

GG captain. We had bad lag of course. To throw into that we even had a game glitch, where it cheated captain when the game magically skipped Brandon Inge's atbat when he was down 1-2 in the count. Then we had another glitch when I hit a single with Pudge the game wouldn't let us continue until Captain tagged me while I was standing at first base safely. So I guess the glitches evened out the game.

GG. Yeah, that glitch threw me off. The lag for me this game wasn't as bad as my last game, which was almost unplayable. The lag this game really fucked with my head though. For pitching, the game would almost always hiccup between the two spots on the meter, which was why I kept throwing those wild pitches. Then for hitting, I finally figured it out during the 8th. I had to go by a count, not the animations. I remember a couple times I hit the ball but my batter just stood still.

Try not downloading things while you play, having no other internet use during the game, and/or hardwiring your system. I would select my pitch and next thing i saw was your guy getting hit upside the head, ugh... There is no way tolocate pitches on lag that bad. Rameriz sp? was on though..

The reason I pitched fast to you was because in the top of the 6th and I think the other inning was the 8th I was down by one run and had my RP come up to bat. You were selecting the pitches and throwing them so fast that I wasn't able to pinch hit. After you selected your pitch, it grayed out the pinch hit option for me. I had to take two quick strikes from you in the 6th and then pause the rapidly until I was able to select the option to pinch hit.

At least I threw you one ball the two times you were trying to pinch hit in the 9th. :)

Also, due to the fast pitching, there were a lot of pitches I wasn't able to guess on my end so it worked both ways.

I didn't really notice any lag at all. At one time when I was pitching I noticed it lag a little, so I let it sit there for 10-15 seconds. Overall it was one of the best lag free game's I've played.

It was still a fun game, I thought you had me once you hit the grand slam with Burrell and then a solo HR with the next batter.

Thanks, I think you played great too. Maybe our experience will help others in the league know not to hurry up and pick pitches when there is a pinch hit situation. I tend to pitch fast most of the time unless the game is laggy. If it is laggy, then I'll slow it down. I'll make sure to try to slow it down for the rest of the people I play when their pitchers are up to bat.

When you hit ARAM in the 9th, I thought maybe you were just pissed at him and wanted to hit him since first base was open. But yeah, I had a lot of fun with our game.

Thanks for the ass kicking, Basket. There were several times in the game that I really got screwed tho. When I had the bases loaded I only got 2 of the pitches and was called out on the second pitch. Your constant base running really kicked my ass too. It wasn't bad enough that I'm not all the good but the lag made it even more difficult. One time I remember I pressed a button and the screen locked up and my guy threw it to the wrong base. Heh. But thanks for playing man and congratz on your win.

I really hope they fix this lag and stuff tho. I feel like I waste an hour every week when I do this league. No offense to you guys but in a game where it's all about timing and control and you don't always have it... well... it sucks.
