Nice, looks like it saves a few bucks. What do you think Cheapy, is it worth it? Or is rumble so "last gen"...
I am sure I will pick one up if/when I need a second controller, but not sure if it is worth the $ as a replacement for my daily sixaxis.

I find it offensive that Sony is charging $50 to replace the gimped controllers they foisted on us in the first place. They were too cheap to pay Immersion in the first place and then lied to us (i.e. said that tilt and rumble were mutually exclusive) and spun (i.e. "last gen") for nearly two years before doing us the favor of selling us the controllers we should've had all along. Wake me when they're doing the appropriate thing: TRADE-IN!!!

I'll pass. I couldn't care less about a rumbling controller. What purpose does rumble serve to you folks, anyway?Helps out immensely in MLB 08 to distinguish pitches outside of the strike zone and notify the user of "key moments". The added weight helps quite a bit, too.
In for one as well. I don't think its just the rumble people were waiting for, I also think that the controller has the added heft that the sixaxis was missing.

That's what makes it the controller of choice for us, the weight.
Bought/traded for one from a CAG and it just went on the fritz yesterday (hours and hours of COD4 online). Since this is the 2nd one to break (one regular and now one shock 3) it makes sense to pick it up from BB with a $5 replacement warranty. But dammit, hate missing out on this deal to save $5 and tax ($6).

you guys should totally buy the japanese dualshock controller's on ebay for 55 bucks. There is one guy who ships priority and it comes in 3 days. The cool thing about it is that the package is open, meaning you can put your regular sixaxis controller in it and re-sell it on ebay now. I just did that and sold my sixaxis for 36 bucks. If you guys wait for the amazon one you will be left with sixaxis that aren't worth anything. y

Never really cared about rumble one way or the other, but the PS3 controller is just too damn light, so this will be welcome. After spending most of my time on the 360 controller as of late, trying to even play anything on the SIXAXIS has been a pain in the ass.

I already have bought two and sold my original two so in all I paid $30 more to upgrade to two dualshocks.
IMO they are better than the 360's because they give you the experience but not over the top to infringe on the gameplay like the 360's is at times.
So far MLB the show is amazing. Had a game in the 9th with one run lead and bases juiced and the thing is pulsing like a heartbeat as I am going into my windup. (Hoffman backdoored him looking and the final bell tolled.) By the way if you like baseball then MLB the show is an awesome game. As a sports fan playing sports games for over 15 years now I can honestly say this is the best sports game I have ever played. Their attention to detail was amazing.

The pre-order is set at $50, which is the retail price of the controller no? If not, i don't see $5 off from $55 on Amazon. If it's $5 off, then it should be $45. I know you could argue that rumble adds so much more to the gaming experience (I'll even totally agree with you), but I can't justify $50 for a controller. Maybe when the third-party knock-offs start rolling out or there is a major price drop, then I'll bite.

Rumble adds a lot to the experience IMHO. Playing COD 4 on my 360 vs PS3 it's feels more immersive.
I'm going to hold out for a better deal. As far as I know games currently don't support rumble, so there's no real reason to buy one now until games are patched or new games come out that take advantage of the feature... and I imagine that retailers will be marking these down on sale frequently.

Actually, I think most games do now support it. I think the only notable game released since the DS3 has been available (November) that doesn't support rumble is CoD4. All Sony first party/second party games have been patched already (Resistance, Warhawk, Ratchet and Uncharted) and some shipped with it already as a feature such as Burnout Paradise.

If I hadn't already got a ceramic white one from Play-Asia for $56, I'd be all over this. For an extra $6 I'm happy to get white instead of black, you know, something different. Works like a charm with the American PS3 too.
As for the rumble, I've only used it with Resistance so far (I have Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank, Folklore, Motorstorm, Uncharted, etc. but I haven't tried them yet). The rumble in Resistance doesn't knock your socks off, but you know it's there. It adds to the experience a little bit, but my first impression is that the 360 controller's rumble is definitely stronger.
I really like the extra weight though. It makes the controller feel a bit better in your hands, and it's not quite as heavy as the 360 controller. Why Sony waited so long to bring these out over here I'll never know...everybody should have imported these months ago just on principle. I'll probably import a second DualShock 3, maybe in silver, so that I have two rumbling controllers.

I got one from play-asia back in January. The left analog stick now only works sporadically. PA said they would replace it, but really stressed that if it worked when they got it, I’d be out the controller and money.
So, now I’m stuck with a DS3 that doesn’t always work. I’ve thought about getting a new one at Best Buy when they come out here and trying to exchange the broken Japanese one for a new one. Doing the old switcharoo.

I’ve spoken with them in email twice. They said that it was shipped working and is not their fault it is broke. I really got the feeling they are trying to make it seem it is my fault. I’m sure a lot of people smash controllers. So, I can see their concern.
As I said, it works fine sporadically. I’m really concerned that it will work when they get it and they said they wouldn’t refund money or return it if it worked.
Their emails to me really didn’t make me feel comfortable returning it. They worked hard to discourage me from doing so. Definitely the last time I’m importing hardware of any kind.

Mine wore out in about a month and only about 10 hours of use.
My problem is up and down don’t work on the left analog stick. If I push the stick in, like doing the left click, it will go. If I work with it for a couple minutes, sometimes it starts working.
I would return it to play-asia in a second. They just went out of their way to make me uncomfortable doing so.

I grabbed one. Mainly based on everyone who owns one saying that they no longer drop their connection. Just going to need to figure out what I'm going to do with my two Sixaxis controllers now.
Anyone have this show up in their Amazon Recommendations yet? A gold box discount would really sweeten the deal.
It does. I just got mine in from Play-Asia last night. Tested it with Shadow of the Colossus and there was indeed rumble. The rumble seemed a little subdued but that may just be the game ...
I also tried it with Resistance and with the Burnout: Paradise demo. Rumble was a nice addition to Resistance, but especially with Burnout the rumble was nice and strong, which was reassuring after the negative comparisons to the 360 controller (I have both systems and I would recommend trying the Burnout demo before you conclude that the DS3's rumble is weak).

I just tried to order 2 (figured it was a good way to use the $20 of $80 GCO thing that I received) but unfortunately GCO is not available for this item.... it tells you that after you've added it to the cart.GCO bonuses like this tend not to work on pre-order items like this one . Probably why it won't work.
The deal's dead. Amazon has it listed at $55 now.Guess I'm glad I jumped on it when I did.

I definitely want one of these, the Sixaxis is way too light and flimsy for my taste but what i wanna know is if the rumble will work on PS2 games. Anybody know?
I can confirm that yes it does. I imported a white one for $58 and some change, so in the absence of a deal like this, I got it early for a few pennies cheaper than the US. *Totally* worth it, IMO. the added weight is fantastic.

its a must if ur gonna get mgs4.. now im gonna have 4 controllers lolz

wait a sec... am i missing something here? the only deal is that you're paying $5-$10 less b/c you're not buying an import. The pre-order is set at $50, which is the retail price of the controller no? If not, i don't see $5 off from $55 on Amazon. If it's $5 off, then it should be $45. Sorry, no bite for me... main reason, no ceramic white color. I rather pay $5 more to have it in white.
btw wtf is with everyone wanting the white? only if u have a imported ps3 thats white it does not match the ps3.
and its more like $10 off if u add tax

I ordered a white one, and my main reasoning was that I can quickly tell it apart from the other controllers that way. It's quicker than picking them up and feeling for the heavier one.
I have to admit I don't get the excitement over the white and silver controllers either -- I'm definitely a fan of the classic black, and it's nice to have a controller that matches my PS3 (as opposed to matching my Xbox 360!)

I like having each controller be a different color. I really want a silver with rumble but not until it's under 50 shipped.
I have all the 360 solid color controllers except the halo edition 360 green pack-in (my wife loves her pink one), I do have people over to play socially and it solves the which one is my controller thing.
It's also good for tracking which one has the best charge.
Reminder: everyone check the buy.com with GCO price thing.

ya the gco pricing thing is a few buck cheaper but they add tax for my purchases for some reason.
and to top it off ive done google checkout already so its a one time thing. and the silver color is really the naltogic one. the orignal ds was white. but rlly i always thought it was fruity to get all the different colors of the rainbow for ur controllers.
brings back the old days when the ds1 came in see through blue, green, red lolzz

Here is another review of the imported controller. (http://theexplodingbarrel.com/?p=81)
Everyone seems impressed. I usually don't buy more then one controller, but maybe this'll help get my friends to join in more often.
I'd much rather have a wireless controller with a built in fan for my sweaty palms :P

Well yes, since it would be impossible for them to participate in multiplayer with you and only one controller.

Yeah, I second that emotion! Nobody currently offers a wireless controller with a fan. I guess the fan is too much of a powerdrain. Was a big fan (pardon the pun) of the old Airflo controllers from Nyko. Haven't tried the Logitech Chillstream ones, though.

Hmm... right now I"m actually pretty happy w/ the Siaxis or however you spell it.
But then again I plan to get at least one more controller so might as well make it a dual shock 3...
Rumble has never been important to me... I play my 360 with the rumble shut off cause the battery lasts longer, and i enjoy not having to shut it off on the PS3.
Just my opinion though.

This was actually my last product I ordered with my Prime trial. I did order a few times through Super Saver shipping, but that goes through UPS too. Both DHL and USPS don't have a problem leaving a package at my door though.
