I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually have any evidence but was rather just suggesting that perhaps Gamestop is trying to unload their used copies at that price point before it goes to greatest hits. It's actually a pretty believable theory, but AFAIK its just a theory.

Actually, I doubt that Sony would change the GH version to a 1-disc game. Fact is GH games tend to have even more stuff packed into it (i.e. Marvel UA, DMC SE) -- that's how Sony entices players to buy it even with the ugly label. Last thing the co. would do is remove the bonus disc. In fact, I'd expect Sony to even add in some extra trailers of the PSP game in there.

So, I'd expect the contents will be unchanged at a minimum; more is usu. the tradition with GH versions.

How many times does this happen, though? The only one I'm personally aware of is with DMC3 and then there's the other one that was mentioned before. Granted, I don't usuallly pay much attention to GH games but everytime I come across them on the shelves, there's no mention of anything extra. I do, however, notice the big red label and the lower quality of the print paper if the original game had raised lettering (Bully) or a foil finish (Kingdom Hearts).

I don't quite get how people think that the GH boxart ruins things - I think it's completely bearable. If you want boxart that's ruined by the 'value' stamp, take a look at the platinum hits or family hits on XB360. Yeugh.

I would pay on average $10+ or more not to have a GH red box. That's how much I can't stand it. I realize they want to differentiate the difference between the original and the value ones, but I just am far too much of a perfectionist. It sucks too to be a CAG and a perfectionist/collector, but it's something I haven't been able to shake. Still, great deal at $24.99...I just may bite :)

Could you please enlighten us as to how this is true? Like I said a few posts up, I'm only aware of DMC3 having more content in the GH version. It isn't always the case that GH versions are better than their original counterparts but besides a non color instruction manual it's not usually the other way around. I suppose that's a more accurate statement. As for other games which follow this trend someone mention Marvel:Ua though I admit I agreed with the statement like a sheep. However, quite a few games at lower price points had more and better content. MGS2:Substance, MGS3:Subsistence, Persona 3:FES, RE4. These aren't greatest hits (actually MGS will be with the essentials set I believe) but they follow the lower price more content trend.

I think the vast majority of Greatest Hits versions of games do not have any extra content. There are plenty of director's cuts editions that get released at a lower price point and with extra content, but that is different from GH.

P3:FES is a director's cut of sorts of the original Persona 3 game. It includes quite a bit of additional content, including a new episode that will take about 40 hours to complete.

Your point with MGS2/3 in this comment doesn't make sense considering you can say the same of all games that go greatest hits. Why purchase a game again just because it's cheaper? Adding extra content is a good way to get that second purchase, but as discussed already very few games actually get this treatment.

Wow. Great Thread. Another Greatest hits with added content was Midnight Club, which shipped with Tokyo as an added city on the greatest hits. However, GrandTheftAuto San Andrea's shipped a collector's edition with an extra disk (after the hot coffee scandal), but didn't include any extra's in the greatest hits disk.

My guess, it will NOT ship with the additional disk. As it is a greatest hit, if they can fit more content onto the dvd (and they have more content), they will, but if the dvd is already full to the brim with the original game, they will not add the extra disk, as they have never added an additional disk to Greatest Hits. (Note: I hope i am wrong on this, as i actually do not have the game, and would pick it up new, with the extra disk, for 29.99. I have a weakness for extras, but i won't pay more than $10.00 for them.)

Regarding the quality of GameStop disks, the clerks at my local one know me, and will always show me all the copies of used games they have, so i may pick the best one. I simply only accept absolutely pristine disks, used or not, from GameStop. (Note, GameStop will often put used stickers on brand new games, if they are not selling.)

That's not true. Marvel UA got the extra disc treatment (sure, it's just some trailers and interviews, but the cost of keeping a dvd disc to Sony is practically nil).

It'd prob. actually cost Sony more to have to redesign the package to remove the two-disc language. My guess is that it'll stay exactly the same, if not have some more stuff packaged in.

Remember, GH means it's sold a whole lot of copies, and the economic perspective isn't to grab the people who waited for $20 (that group actually doesn't make up as many ppl as you think), it's to entice those who never thought about buying the game in the first place. That's why MANY of the more recent GH games release with additional content (DMC3 SE, Virtua Fighter 4, etc.).
