Popped your cherry? Man, that sounds pretty pathetic... No offense of course, but damn pathetic. Anyways, sounds like a pretty good deal, but after reading reviews concerning the image quality of the BD release, I'm definitely passing.

You mean they didn't master it at 1080p for HD releases?
edit:
here's the review for those who haven't read it: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1259/appleseedexmachina.html
Perhaps they delayed the hd-dvd release to address the image issues?

all warner hd dvd releases are delayed 3 weeks, so the delay had nothing to do with image

You are correct! I've compared both the DVD version and Blu Ray as well.
There seems to be no difference at all. The Blu version offers nothing spectacular over standard DVD. The DVD version when played using the PS3 looks exactly the same as the Blu. I think they did a lazy job of transferring to Blu. You might as well save your money and just buy the 2-discs DVD version instead.
Hopefully, for those getting the HD-DVD version later, there'll be some improvement.

Just following up here -
I got mine in the mail a few days ago from amazon (the hd-dvd version) and personally, I think it looks beautiful. I haven't been able to compare it to the blu-ray version. While it may not be pixar quality, it's a very nice hi-def transfer. The picture was consistently sharp, vivid and all around beautiful with minimal blur and artifacting. If you're a fan of the Appleseed series, or just appreciate a visually stunning hi-def animation piece, I recommend picking it up, and at $16.49, it's a steal. It's almost 10 bucks cheaper than the 2 disc DVD edition and includes all of the same extras (except for a few unrelated warner bros trailers).
Edit:
Here's a link to the review: http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1260/appleseedexmachina.html
In short, the transfer isn't any different from the blu-ray transfer. I guess I'm not as picky as the reviewer - to me, it looks beautiful. My guess is that unless you're going to go through this looking for flaws and pausing frames to pick them apart, you're going to find what you're looking for. If you're going to sit back and enjoy a beautiful piece of animation chocked with kick-ass action and a good story, you probably won't notice. I've got a 56" tv outputting a 1080p picture, and I really didn't notice any major flaws (I did notice some VERY minor artifacting on occasion).

yeah, i have to agree that the SD DVD looked HD to me. i rented it and was blown away by the resolution. maybe my tv upconverted it to 1080p, because it looked damn good. i'll get the HD version though, just because it's cheaper than SD version. i'll have to compare them once i get it.
