Either way, you're going to have to wait until tomorrow. YouTube likes taking its sweet time uploading videos.

I'd like to add that this whole tournament has been a blast. Great games everyone, and I hope the person who hosts the next tournament does a better job than me, so they have something o brag about.

I'd like to be the first to say this: thank you to Mr. Beef for being such a gracious host for this tournament! Everything was so well put-together, and so well organized! I had a blast participating! If you hadn't have done it, I'm sure someone else would have, but I'm also sure that they probably wouldn't have done it half as well. Good job, again!

How about Jerry Lawler (or whatever his name is) from...whatever wrestling matches he announces?

YOU CAN'T DO THAT!
CAN HE DO THAT????
I DON'T THINK HE CAN DO THAT!

I was thinking more of the Futurama episode where Bender becomes a robot fighter, and they have....gah, I can't remember the names, but one of the announces says "I"m __ ___, impersonating __ __."

Hence why I've uploaded no videos recently. It takes about the same for me with a 512 kbsp upload.

Very well played match and even climatic at the end. I almost thought Joe was going to miss the ledge at about 4:30 and you were going to get the win Beef.

Nice first game, Joe's offense with his waddle dee's was nice and it seemed like Beef's defense and counter's were really on point when he was playing at a high percentage.

I almost thought Beef was gon' pull the comeback.

fantastic matches, can't believe the recoil from the aura sphere koed you the first time though Beef =\
in any case, i definitely want to go against you now, i main with lucario and you're just about the only person i've seen who plays a decent one

Mr. Beef
04-17-2008, 01:23 PM
A friend of mine came over and recorded all the matches onto his laptop.

I have to check and see if he uploaded the last two. I think he may have stopped after the 4th game due to the amount of free space on his comp, so I have to double check. I hope he didn't delete it, it was a damn fine match.

great matches Joe & beef

Drnick
04-17-2008, 01:26 PM
cool, I'd love to learn how to do that, I'm pretty technologically inclined, did he just do a video capture of the TV you were playing on?

BTW, how was the lag with you guys? it didn't seem to effect things too much. I haven't played on-line since my match with Beef, I'm hoping nintendo sorts out the lag issues.

I'd also love to play a "rematch" if only for bragging rights with beef, and would love to take a crack at Joe. Both of your are Excellent players, I can see why your in the finals

JoeB1233
04-17-2008, 01:34 PM
The lag was negligible, in terms of frame rate. Online, there's always a delay input, but we're talking a fraction of a second when compared to offline. I think Beef and I would agree that our performances really weren't affected by the lag.

And I didn't really notice this until now, but we played four-stock. I'm observant.

04-17-2008, 02:15 PM
Beef, do you have a main? I'm curious as to why you decided to switch to metaknight after winning with kirby. Either way, amazing matches, and please get the rest out ASAP!

Drnick
04-17-2008, 05:51 PM
From my match with Beef, I'd have to say Kirby is his main (and if its not, it damn well should be haha)

his lucario is the best I've seen, but his Kirby takes him to a new level

Has anyone else been forced to use different characters on-line vs offline? (I have always loved Fox in every smash bros, but playing with him on-line, I find it damn near impossible unless there is no lag. I just can't execute his moves accurately enough to be able to use him, so I'm forced to go with my 2nd character (Link) where accuracy doesn't need to be pin point.

ratzombie
04-17-2008, 05:51 PM
Awesome matches, very entertaining.

But damn you got owned in Round 4 Joe, that's why you stick with your main when you are playing a tournament game.

Geez, 4 stock AND 5 rounds? This doesn't even count.

Why not? They beat everyone else on their way up to the top in 3 stock / 3 rounds, I see no reason why it's unfair that the last two contenders have longer matches, since more is at stake.

Dr Mario Kart
04-17-2008, 06:58 PM
I've been to 4 tournaments, and it has always been 3 stock with a 6 or 7 minute timer on top. Only in one of them did they do 3 out of 5 rounds for finals.

Mr. Beef
04-17-2008, 08:30 PM

As for who I main, I main Lucario, and the Dreamlanders, But my best is Kirby, hands-down.

JoeB1233
04-17-2008, 09:08 PM
Oh, and for those who didn't notice the link at the end of the round 2 and 3 videos, here is Round 4! This is (apparently) the last video, as Round 5 was not recorded. (Beef, correct me if I'm wrong)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEbXIUAnxBoRound 4 Spoilers As for yukine's comment about using Zelda, well, yeah. I don't use her as often, but I knew that if Beef brought out MetaKnight again (which I thought he was going to), Dedede wouldn't be able to take him without a few critical errors on his part. In a Dedede ditto, I have confidence I would have competed better. BUT, that's the name of the game! I didn't predict correctly, and was punished accordingly.

Finals Summary
Round 1 @ Battlefield: King Dedede (JoeB1233) d. Lucario (Mr. Beef)
Round 2 @ Battlefield: Kirby (Mr. Beef) d. King Dedede (JoeB1233)
Round 3 @ Battlefield: Meta Knight (Mr. Beef) d. King Dedede (JoeB1233)
Round 4 @ Final Destination: King Dedede (Mr. Beef) d. Zelda (JoeB1233)
Round 5 @ I Forget: Lucario (Mr. Beef) d. King Dedede (JoeB1233)

Winner: Mr. Beef! :)

TOURNAMENT RESULTS SPOILER So, with those four wins (three on film), Beef wins the tourney! Congratulations to him! He is a very talented player, and few on CAG rival him. Congrats on your current victory, and good luck defending your title in the next tournament, Beef!

EDIT: In response to crystalklear64
Of course I'm serious. They should redo all their battles and upload new movies. Then let us know who won next month.

If you insist upon this, then I would forfeit, and allow Beef the win by default. I don't want to dredge down the tournament by forcing a redo when I've clearly been bested. The results wouldn't change.

But, really, thank you for your concern about the tournament's integrity. If I host the next one, I'll be sure to be much more specific in my instructions. :)

Mr. Beef
04-17-2008, 09:12 PM

Of course, I have to bring this up.

Teams sounds like great fun, but would the more-than-likely lag ruin it for everyone?

suko_32
04-17-2008, 10:31 PM
I dunno. There are certain people I play who are laggier than others, but when it's a 4 FFA, the lag is significantly reduced.

Arikado
04-17-2008, 10:41 PM
I think a Smash League would be cool, but there's always the problem of people not being able to keep up with a schedule. Plus, I'm guessing a tournament sounds more appealing to most players.

By the way, congrats Beef. Great matches between you and Joe.

I think there's definitely enough interest for another tourney, the only question remaining is other than JoeB, are there any other volunteers for coordinators and whether we want a team or single tourney.

JoeB1233
04-17-2008, 10:55 PM
lol. It's funny how quickly we've moved on. Oh man. One final congratulations to Beef for winning the first CAG tournament (I'm fond of spoiler tags).

This is tough stuff. Perhaps we could consolidate a singles and a doubles tourney into one event (think: tennis tournaments). Host it all under one thread - one big Smash extravaganza. It could be hectic, it could be great. What do you think?

suko_32
04-17-2008, 11:03 PM
If you can handle that load, I know I would be up for it.

BlueLobstah
04-17-2008, 11:04 PM
I'm up for another tourney, in addition to helping out as well.

I don't know about a team tourney however, might be a bit too laggy?

zitanix
04-17-2008, 11:06 PM
Congrats to Beef for winning his own tournament! Seriously, good job, you definitely deserved the win.

A team tournament would be interesting, but there are a few things to consider first:

First, everyone needs to have a teammate chosen before the tournament starts. If not, a lot of people won't actually be able to participate, and that would suck for everyone.

Secondly, the matches would require a bit of communication between teammates. You need to be on the same color team as your partner, (I think) everyone needs team attack on or off depending on the rules, and if partners want to change characters during a set, they'll need to communicate on AIM or something.

Third, all four players would need to agree on a time, and that could potentially slow down the progress of the tournament.

I don't know, it seems like it could be a hassle, but if Joe's willing to run it, I'm willing to join up.

suko_32
04-17-2008, 11:10 PM
As for choosing teammates, the ones that don't have a teammate can get paired up randomly when the tourney starts.

The team attack rule can be chosen before the tourney starts.

I agree on the time issue though.

JoeB1233
04-17-2008, 11:18 PM
Zitanix, thanks for bringing all of these concerns up - you've demonstrated a lot of thought! :applause: I'll try to address each problem you've listed.

First, everyone needs to have a teammate chosen before the tournament starts. If not, a lot of people won't actually be able to participate, and that would suck for everyone. This is actually the least of my concerns. My reasoning is that we all are pretty well familiarized with each other - I doubt anyone would have too much trouble just PMing someone and forming a team. Then again, I'd be sad if someone had to endure 'picked-last-itis.' I'm just hoping that people will be nice about this process, and not be like: "No, you can't be on my team because u r teh sux."

Secondly, the matches would require a bit of communication between teammates. You need to be on the same color team as your partner, (I think) everyone needs team attack on or off depending on the rules, and if partners want to change characters during a set, they'll need to communicate on AIM or something. The color issue would be easy enough for me to assign. Say, if you're on the top of the bracket, be red. On the bottom, be blue. Also, the rules could be assigned. Communication is somewhat of a problem, but I think with all of the chat clients and skype running around, it wouldn't be too bad.

Third, all four players would need to agree on a time, and that could potentially slow down the progress of the tournament.I hadn't thought of this. However, given that the team tourney will likely have roughly half of the entrants (teams versus individuals), it would obviously get done faster. So, maybe give the time of two rounds of individual play for every round of team play (something like that?).

My biggest concern is still lag. I know there are certain people around here with blazing internet speeds. I'm not so fortunate, so every time I host a FFA, it lags. It eventually gets better, but it still lags. Shall we all just agree to saddle up and endure any lag?

Hmm, I still wonder whether it is wise or not to conduct two tourneys at the same time. The scheduling will obviously conflict.

There were enough issues coordinating 2 people to play a match, much less 4 at the same time. Unless all matches are played on weekends I really have a hard time seeing it actually happening. But maybe that's just the devil's advocate in me.

If teams are a go on the next tourney, maybe we should try an exhibition round to see if it's possible to coordinate that many people, and if lag will play a large factor?

Great looking matches, Beef and Joe.

I am all for a Team tourney, even if they turn out to be lag-fests.

The four that are paired up for each fight should decide amonst themselves which has the best connection, and just host accordingly.

UltimoRey
04-18-2008, 01:54 AM
If we do a tag tourney i have a few suggestions
1. Strell I think you should teamup with someone who dies in 30 secs just to make it legal. You know like I do all the time.
2. BlueLobster's team color should always be red.

Mad D

Team rosters of 4 would be another interesting idea. Swapping out members for 2v2 matches would add more variety and people would more likely be more available if other members aren't available. That way Joe can get his wish of that mini clan he always wanted ;) You know you'd want the team to be call: Go Joe!

I like that idea. Would make for interesting matchups. I mean we all knew Joe was gonna gonna use dedede, but in this case you wouldn't even know if joe was gonna play or not.
Allthough a Legend of Zelda/all mario team would be neat.

Best idea! Let's totally do that! I wouldn't want it to be called "Go Joe" (read: yes I would), but, hey, I want some team action!

I mean, it doesn't even have to be team rosters of four. It could be teams of anywhere from 2 to 4! I'm all for this!

EDIT: Also, I'm all for the idea of co-coordinators. So, Strell, Blue, you're free to hop on board and take all the credit help out with things.

2. BlueLobster's team color should always be red.

Damn it. Last thing I wanted to be was a red lobster. I'll have to change my name to "red" and everything.

Or we could do 4 player crews where everyone on each team plays a round robin with the other team and they tally up the wins and losses. Or we could do a crazy items tournament with everything on high. Or we could do like 4v4 crew battles where there are 2 1v1s and one 2v2 and the team that wins the matches moves on to the next round!

Don't take me seriously, but there's a lot of cool ideas we could do with tons of participation. I do like the idea Mad D came up with a lot, though.

We know why Mad D wants 4-man clan teams. He wants to have a winning chance w/ JoeB. And so do I.

Anyways, whoever I'm tag teaming with, I will make a promise. We will get far with the master of destruction, Ike, b/c opponents will be flying!

I guarantee it.

Unless there's a team with, like, Beef, Arikado, Suko, and Drnick. Then no one has a winning chance. *cries*

Also, evergoo, help me determine seeds. Do you just assign it based on who lost to whom (in the positions where there is a tie)?

The NBA playoffs inspired this, that and watching wrestling in middle school. Maybe we can create gimmicky rosters signatures like the nWo, Dx, Raven's flock, The Corporation, The Nation, etc.

Taken out of context what you just said was hilarious, Arikado. I tempted to put that in my sig.

Yeah haven't played Dr Nick or Beef yet but seeing how they were in the final 4... team captains?

im down for a tag team tournament, i don't mind picking each other's teammate, but let's make it fair.

crystalklear64

How would you make it fair?

People haven't exactly been sitting around doing nothing while the tournament has been going on.

Just pick whatever teams you want if you're going to do a team thing.

Or, make the teams completely random.

I don't mind helping you coordinate, JoeB, with the seeds and brackets for the next tourney. As long as someone posts the winners in the OP (that means you!), this shouldn't be any problem for me.

I'll post the finalized places for this tourney in my next post (I begun a long time ago after I was eliminated). Ties should be awarded based on round placement, except for me who is the sole 5th place winner (j/k).

I'm not hip to tournaments or even how sport events get set up, but a quick look at the wiki, and it seems to me like the swiss system or some sort of points system would be best.

you know what would be cool, in my opinion, would be a davis cup type of smash brothers (anyone who knows tennis knows about this system). it usually is 3 singles players, and two doubles players, and best of 3 of those matches would win (i guess it could work for 1 singles player, and 2 doubles players too to make teams only 5 person each).

but considering we have alot of smash players, teams of 7 could work too.

criticisms, etc. for this system is appreciated.

Don't know about Davis cup, but it its like round robin or the swiss system in which no one gets eliminated, that'd be cool.

And for those who don't know what the swiss system is, basically you choose a certain number of rounds you want to play, then if you win a round you get 1 point, if you tie a round you get .5 points, and if you lose you get 0 points. After the first round, you play people with the same number of points as yourself until the set number of rounds has been played.

At the end, whoever has the most points wins. Aside from the first round, this system filters the better players towards people of their skill level, and the not so great people play with people of their skill level. Plus, at the end everyone will have a point value which would give a much better idea of a player's skill level.

Since you play a set number of rounds, no one is ever eliminated, so everyone can play until the tournament's end with people who should be about their skill level.

That idea was sort of proposed already. The problem was that with a large number of participants, it would take forever to finish and not everyone has that kind of time.

I think I like that idea better if we opted to not base seeding on the results of the last tournament, and use this to determine the next tournament's seeding. This would allow a few weeks gap between the next tourney, in addition to giving everyone a chance to play a wide range of persons.

I'm still more inclined towards single elimination for a tourney since it's much easier to maintain.

Whatever we decide on, I'd just like to mention the following principle: KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid).

The more technical the next tourney is, the harder it'll be for casuals and hardcore players alike to pull off a successful event.

Yup, keep it simple or you're going to end up with a lot of people missing their games or people who won't even participate because not everyone has the time to work their daily schedule around a video game tournament. :D
