View Full Version : New Gamefly Trade-In Program (Beta)

I received an email from Gamefly saying that they are testing a new trade-in system.
Not sure how good their trade-in values are but the following might not make the program as appealing -
- Member is responsible for all shipping and packaging costs associated with trade-in orders, including returned items.
- Trade-In Credits are only applicable to GameFly monthly membership fees.

You've been selected to participate in our new GameFly Trade-In Program. Now you can trade in the games you own for credit toward your GameFly membership fees. Trade in as many games as you want, and stack up the GameFly Credits!
The Trade-In Program guidelines are as follows:
• Prices offered for trade-in games are valid for 10 days. If your order is not received within 10 days, it may be subject to repricing.
• We can accept up to five games in each trade-in order.
• We can not accept more than three copies of the same game.
• Trade-In Credits will be deposited in your account as soon as your order has been inspected and accepted. Credits will automatically be applied to your next monthly billing.
• Trade-In Credits are only applicable to GameFly monthly membership fees.
• Member is responsible for all shipping and packaging costs associated with trade-in orders, including returned items.
• All items submitted for trade-in must be packaged together with the original disc, case, and manuals and be in good working condition.
• All trade-in items in a single order must be shipped together in one package with the packing slip included.
• Not all games are available for trade-in. Games available for trade-in will be determined by GameFly at our sole discretion.
• For the purposes of estimating your shipping costs, the zip code you will ship your Trade-In orders to is: 21093.
See the Complete Trade-In Program Terms of Use (http://www.gamefly.com/tradein/popdetails.asp#) for more details.

I didn't get it, but it sounds like a good deal to me, especially since GameFly's membership is too much for me (since I rent about two games a month), but if I could trade-in older games, or stuff I don't play anymore, then that would be great for me - but alas, no e-mail.

I got this months ago, as well. In fact, when someone posted it around the same time I got it, members actually replied that they had gotten the e-mail months before that, so I really don't know how old this program is. Nonetheless, at the time when I checked, some of their values were inline with GameStop, give or take a buck or two. Wouldn't be a terrible thing to maybe dumb some crap on them, if they take it.

Gamefly just started a trade in program that is in its beta phase. You choose what games you want to trade in and use it toward your paying your membership for now.
Details: http://www.gamefly.com/tradein/
Highlights:
-Trade up to 3 copies of a game.
-Prices offered for trade ins are good for 10 days
-Up to 10 games in one order
-You are responsible for S&H
-Games must include original box, manual, and be in working condition.
Not sure if it's only for certain members or what.

This has actually been in beta for quite some time. Their prices are all right, but generally seem to be only a few dollars more than GS, which is then negated by shipping.

How long has it been in beta? And unless you're right about the trade in prices.

I honestly don't know, but I remember getting an e-mail about the program last year. Even then, someone posted a thread about it, and other people said it was old.

I was invited on March 17th.
I check prices on stuff every once and a while and the trade-in values are pretty much equal to GameStop, BUT you have to pay the shipping.
I would definitely use it if they would let you use your trade-ins towards game purchases since I get 10% off already and 5 GF dollars every few months, but you can only use the trade-in towards your subscription. :/

its been going on for at least 2 to 3 years now JUST IN BETA
i joined back on APRIL 2008 and have a year free. i get cheap games off goozex and trade them in.
THOUGH The price is only good on NORMAL Membership price. Meaning if you buy a discounted prepaid plan it wont work. like the 20% off or buy 1 month get 1 free. your credit wont work

its mostly in Beta for the last year so many people are not in it. I been in it since May and love it.
if you can find some Cheap games you can make a killing
They was giving 24.00 for World series of poker 2007 for the xbox 360
ebgames was selling this new for 10 or used for 8 ( around 7 after eb edge)
i got around 150 bucks for less then 50 out of pocket.
i been grabbing 100 pt games off goozex and dumping them to gamefly for 8 to 12 each.
I would think the prices are about the same on most of the games. depends on how badly gamefly needs the games

Didn't see this posted anywhere, please ignore if I missed it.
Gamefly is now accepting used games towards your monthly subscription fees. Did you get in on that Alone in the Dark for 360 for $6.50 shipped? Send it in for $11.50 trade in credit! It's like they paid you $5 for trying it out.

If it didn't take so long for me to get games from them, I would be on this.
Now if we could use trade in credit for their store sales..

Why not just sell your games on Amazon, Ebay or Craigslist and get more money.
bigdaddybruce44

Why not just sell your games on Amazon, Ebay or Craigslist and get more money.
Because there are inherent hassles with all of those options. Ebay and Amazon obviously take a chunk of your sales, and you have to deal with a lot of bullshit, including policies that clearly take the buyer's side in a dispute, even in situations where the buyer is in the wrong. And though Craigslist has no fees, you are exposed to a lot less people, and you have to deal with lowballers, people backing out, people not showing up, and the small chance the person you're going to meet will cave you and/or friends' heads in with a hammer.

its been in beta for the last 2+ years... I send in all of the goozex 100 pt games i get
i got almost 400 bucks credit over there at gamefly
there are a lot of Ds games that they give 8.28 for that you would never get that much off ebay/amazon.gamestop

Hey all,
I couldn't find a post anywhere about this. I was just browsing my GameQ and saw the option to trade in used games to GameFly for a credit toward your account subscription. Just an FYI!

They have been doing it for years, I've had access for nearly a year myself. Most of the prices are better than what GC or GS will give you straight up. What kills it is the shipping.

I still rather go Goozex route. I wish more people would sign up though. I really want to see larger numbers on 4 month old titles. Im still trying to find a cheap way to get Fable 2.
(You can use the link below to check out the site or above. It also helps KingofOldschool and Me if you like the program.)

last year you could do both and make good cash. I did it and got 18 months for free
pick up 100 pt games on goozex sell them to gamefly for 8.28 each or more and repeat
Now though with lack of 100 pt games and how badly the gamefly trades have fallen its not worth the time
o and your credits Can only be used for normal price membershp fees .... So you cant buy a 1 year prepaid and get 20% off

I'm not really in it for the profit. I know you didn't say I was but I wanted to make that clear.
I hate seeing my games leave me for nothing then sold back for a fortune. I recall trading in 4 or 5 games for "Bad Company" only to trade it in 2 months later towards a points card. I got 19.00 dollars. Not only that but I watched my special edition sell for 54.00 dollars. It sat there for 2 weeks before someone bought it.
I use ebay most of the time. Rarly will I go to GS unless I was impulsive. But Im sick of giving them 5 dollars for every game I sell plus I normally offer free shipping.
Recently I started trying Goozex and I think I may like it. It's just trading games for 1 dollar. The system isn't perfect but I think it's going to evolve and blow up into something better over the next 3 years. I'm hopeful.
That's why I am suggesting it. The Goozex site itself seems to be making its money from advertising more then sales. Which seems good for me. But again will see how it works out.

Go to a game and click on WHATS THIS? next to trade-in here is what pops up. I HOPE its not the case, but when this was in BETA a year ago it was only towards your membership fee. I found this by just clicking around, but can't find any other info
Now you can trade in the games you own for credit toward your GameFly membership fees!
Click the TRADE-IN button to find out more about how it works
